HOw long should I leave myself to order the car to pick up in Munich. IF I Order today will it be ready around March 25th? Does anyone know the deal in 2006? For example is was buy one get one free flight, is it different this year? When are the 2007's going to be available?

If you want to pick-up on March 25 then you should order within the next 2-3 weeks to be safe.

I read on bimmerfest.com that the Lufthansa deal is being continued. Since it's off-season you might be able to find cheaper deals yourself.

Assuming that BMW doesn't release the 07's early then the earliest that you'll be able to do ED for an 07 would be end of Sept/early Oct. To be safe, should aim for mid-Oct.

Hello-

I'm considering an '06 325i with Metallic, Sport, Cold weather and auto (wife's insistence) Total MSRP of $35,945 including destination.

If we buy we will do the Euro Delivery. Already have flight on hold for late April.

The ED MSRP would be $33,780.

I am buying, not leasing.

Are these prices negotiable?

Any input would be appreciated.

BMW's ED price is highly negotiable. Just like you would a US delivered car, work up from BMW's ED invoice price ($500 - $1000) is a good number to shoot for. BMW's ED prices are available. Google Bimmerfest.

For those of you who have done this....Does BMW provide instructions on what to do in the event of breakdown, system failure, etc...? Like, say I'm in the Pyrenees minding my own business and that one failure in a million happens to my car. Is there some sort of proceedure that is outlined? Or, am I left to flag down a tow from a guy with a goat? I have rented cars many times in Europe. The only problem I had was with an Alfa...on a Sunday...in Austria.

Again, any thoughts are appreciated.

I used the sheet from bimmerfest and got our 325 wagon for $800 over ED invoice. So when you factor in the ED pricing and working up form invoice, the savings over MSRP is quite substantial (almost 20% in my case). The flip side is that I got no real service in any way from my sales advisor (including US delivery).

I was in the area for business already, so the personal savings were quite good, but my take on it is that it's not worth doing unless you truly make a holiday of it and drive your new car somewhere fun.

24 hour road service in Europe is provided during your ED trip. They give you all the phone numbers and everything that you'll need.

I may be interested in the ED program, but after visiting Paris a couple of weeks ago and seeing all the poor high-end cars (BMWs, MBs, etc.) with tons of nicks and dents, and also seeing how close Europeans parallel-park to each other, I am scared a new BMW would be just begging for something bad to happen to it during a 2-3 week trip.

Does BMW's provided insurance cover anything/everything that might happen to the car during the trip? Thanks!

If you don't mind sticking with Germany, Germans are even more nuts about taking care of their cars than anyone one I have seen. If one dents another's car and takes away without taking proper course of action, any witness can report it as a hit-and-run.

In my 3 years there, I have not gotten a single dent, scratch or nicks to speak of. Sometimes I wondered how people got out in an impossibly tight space.

ED insurance does cover accidents, etc., but I am not sure if it will cover minor cosmetic works.

The ED program provides 14-days free full comprehensive coverage with zero deductible, so you should be ok.

I need to cover my X3 I am picking up on ED for 90 days, while in Europe, England and Ireland. BMW charges $800+ for this. Does anyone know if you can get short term insurance from anyone else for European coverage? I've been emailing every company I find, with no responses yet. Or does BMW force you to take their coverage? This is a cash deal, not a lease.

Just wondering.........after your U.S. dealer forwards your specs to BMW, how long does it ususally take to get some confirmation from BMW that they can have the car ready for Munich pickup on a certain date?

I just came back from picking up my 325 xi sw in Munich and have the 06-1 Professional Navtech DVD with the European road map to sell. I have posted it on e-Bay (item #5876298139). Only used it for two weeks and it is in perfect condition! Save some money on your ED pickup.

Just so I am clear. If I order with the ED option, the delivery costs to the states are included? I just have to go on a vacation in Germany for a week or so and experience the car where it was meant to be driven, drop it off at the docks and then wait 6-12 weeks for delivery? The difference is about $2500 in savings going wiht the ED option?

What am I missing?

Another dumb question from the rookie. If leasing, when do you start making payments? Is it on US delivery or on Munich delivery? If you could potentially be waiting 2-3 months for the car to make it to the states, I would expect payments to not begin until you actually take delivery here. Is this correct?

BMW picks up the tab on shipping, insurance (for 30 days) while driving around Europe, Marine insurance.

For your car's target price, shoot for $500 - $1000 over ED invoice (google bimmerfest) and check out the forums under the Ask A Dealer section.

Depending on where you are (and if your car gets on the beginning or end of a boat) is when you'll get your car.

BMW picks up your second month's lease payment (while your car is on the water).

I believe you have to pay for the car 15 days in advance. For leasing that would be total drive off costs.

I'm not trying to nit-pick or be a jerk, but to be more accurate you shouldn't say that "BMW picks up the tab on shipping", when in fact you still pay $695 destination charge on the car, just like you would for US delivery.

Is there a rule of thumb to determine the difference(savings) in DEALER INVOICE base price on a BMW325i bought as an ED vs. a US pickup?
Or else (and this has no doubt been covered elsewhere before--perhaps you can direct me to where) how can I determine the dealer base INVOICE on a BMW for European Delivery?

To be precise, I was told by a dealer ED salesperson that the ED base for the 325i is (without any extras at all) is 26,150 (pre tax, pre-everything). He also provided each upgrade element with base prices at something like 7% less than the "regular" ED price in each category.

I'm not an ED expert, but I did look pretty closely at prices a couple years back. The basic deal was the ED discount was always on the base car only - options were the same price whether ED or not (which maximizes the overall ED percentage discount for base cars).

The ED discount on the base car was typically around 7%, both on the MSRP and dealer invoice, but it did vary slightly from model to model. It has been published off/on in various places on the net over the years and you should be able to find them. If you can't find them for the current MY, I think you can safely use the relative ratios from previous model years.

I have read on other sites and been told by my dealer that BMW Finance charges an additional .0003 on the MF for leases taken on ED. Is this correct? If so, I see the payment increasing $40-50/mo on a 36 mo lease. It doesn't seem to be that good of a deal. Am I missing something?

Yes.. the addition for ED is .0003

On most deals that will add around $25-$30/mo..

But, on ED leases, BMWFS waives your second lease payment.. so, that balances it somewhat.

I have been offered a invoice +500 deal. MSRP = 44920, selling price apr. 42300.

Its a 24mnth/10k lease with a payment of 600.00

Is it worth it?

Im in CA if it matters.

Start on the second page for ED pricing.

For instance, my 2006 330i had a sticker of about 41295. I paid 35,700 for my car with leather, sport package, pdc and comfort access. Also, that lease payment is WAY too high. By at least $100 a month.

According to BMWUSA web site BWM will pick up insurance tab for 14 days. Then you have to pay.

I understand that it is not the ED invoice. Its the regular invoice. I was trying to measure the worth of savings. I am paying now 500.00 over US invoice, and wondering if the savings still warrant a flight across the pond.

A flight to Germany for $500 over U.S. invoice? Not a chance. Hell, you can get $500 over U.S. invoice from some dealers over here and not have to incur the expense of flying anywhere.

US invoice price for European Delivery is calculated as follows:
US for ED = US invoice - US MSRP*0.07
That is extra 2800 of savings for a 40k MSRP car (you can try to go for less than 35k for ED price)

My brother in law travels to germany all the time for business and I was wondering if I could have him pick up the car for me? I know this defeats the purpose of the trip but would save me some extra $$$. :confuse:

Nope. Can't do it.

They copy your passport info at the dealership and demand you show your passport at the ED Center.

If you really want to do ED and save money here are some basic tips:

1. Fly out on a Sunday
2. Wait until the 'slow' season for tourists - winter months which equals cheap airfare.
3. Land on a Monday in the AM
4. Go straight to the ED Center by train - it's less than 10 euros.
5. Drive your car to the drop off center at HARMS - call ahead to have a cab ready.
6. Take the cab back to the airport and fly home. You'll land on Monday night back in the USA.

All told you'll spend about $600-700 and one day of vacation time (PTO).

1. Is there any price data for a 2006 325xi Sports Wagon? I have seen the list on Bimmerfest and it has the 325xi but I am not sure if that includes the wagon.

2. What is a good target price to aim for in terms of $$ above confidential wholesale price.

3. Can I negotiate with these guys like any other car that I have bought?

The wagon could be on a different pdf. check bimmerfest for that pdf.

Shoot for 1000 over ED invoice. If you want to start lower, go for it. Be very specific and know your numbers beforehand. You might get 800. I've not heard of many people scoring below 800 but anything's possible. Given the savings I was happy asking for $1000 and getting it.

Also there is NO MACO with ED cars. Dealers try to tack it on but even BMW says that's bogus for ED. The car is never really invoiced to the dealer, so no MACO is involved.

I got my pricing from a PDF on bimmerfest... I think it was on the same sheet as all the 3 series cars... keep checking.

We paid $1000 over ED invoice for our 2006 wagon with very little negotiation involved. Make sure that the options you add on get calculated at the ED price as well.

We also didn't pay any MACO.
