You need to check out the BMW North America Website. The MSRP for your car per their website is $37870. The ED discount is $2165.

Other than that I don't know how negotiable these prices are.

I wrote the dealer via email asking for them to address/price each line item, i.e. base car; each of the options listed individually; tags, title, license; dealer profit; State taxes; and processing fees. They responded in kind and laid it out there. This was their first response.
  • slugdriverslugdriver Member Posts: 16
Base Price for 325i - European Delivery - is $26,150. That's exactly what they quoted.
  • slugdriverslugdriver Member Posts: 16
Edmunds TMV for US delivered car equipped exactly the same: $36,808. This is before taxes, title, license, etc...

I have not started my negotiation yet. That seems to be a pretty good starting point. Probably one I would take if I negotiated it. That said, since they presented it, I'd make a counter-offer and see what happens.

I am going to approach my dealer the same way you did.
  • slugdriverslugdriver Member Posts: 16
Rgr that. I found Bimmerfest.com and this board most helpful. Word of advice. A bimmerfest thread stated that I should have stated my price for each line item and the OTD price up front. But truth be told, I didn't and their quote come in close to what I would have offered. Time to counter offer. Good hunting with your deal. I'm awaiting price quotes from a few other dealers as well. Finally, I mentioned upfront in my letter that I would be competing offers.

I've made some preliminary inquiries on the internet re pricing for a 2006 325i with auto trans. Rec'd quote for $32,300 + tax/license for Jet Black, automatic and satellite prep. Another one in gray graphitew/ auto and satellite prep is $32,929. These seem high to me.

Another dealer came in with a price of $31,455 for jet black with auto and with leather and rear fold down seats $33,205. These prices seem better.

I am in Orange County, CA. From my emailing it doesn't seem as though dealers are very willing to negotiate. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

I am looking to purchase a 2006 325 xi, auto, PP. What kind of discount can I expect to get in the midwest? There is only one BMW dealership in Omaha and I am willing to drive to Minneapolis, Chicago, Denver or KC area if I can get a better deal. I saw quite a few 325 xi's at the DeMoines, IA dealer website. Would it be more difficult to negotiate on an XI since it is still winter?
  • blueguydotcomblueguydotcom Member Posts: 6,249
ED MSRP for a 325i with metallic, sport, cold, auto and including shipping is...

    $30,345.

25,645 - base price munich pickup
    1210 - 6 Speed Steptronic
    430 - metallic paint
    910 - Cold Weather Package
    1455 - Sport Package
    695 - Shipping

Offer the dealership $800-1200 over that price as their profit. You're looking at $31,500 at the worst. Don't go by those bogus ED prices on the BMWUSA website.

If anyone has some input on this lease, let me know if this is a good deal.

    Value of Car - $40,495.00 / Term - 3 Years / Mileage - 12,000/year / Cash out of pocket - $5,000.00 / Residual - 64% / MF - .00305 / Payment - $542/month

Also, is Active Steering worth it? I have heard good and bad, but what is the skinny on this? :confuse:

    Please advise. ThanX

That MF looks awfully high. Ask one of the moderators for the base BMW Finance lease rates. I have seen a couple different numbers of .00225 and .00195. Either way much better than what is being proposed. I believe, you should be able to get that $542 payment with Zero down, if you put $5k down, your payment should be closer to $450. Confirm this with carman or kdfx (moderators).
  • blueguydotcomblueguydotcom Member Posts: 6,249
You don't want to put 5k down as that money is gone forever - zero down on a lease. Pull out of the dealer and blam, the money disappears the moment a mack truck totals your bimmer.

You gave us the MSRP of the car but what is your negotiated price? Always negotiate the price of a car before ever discussing payment options and trade-ins. And that MF is very high.

Active steering is a gimmick. Go with normal and save yourself some dough and future headaches with a technology that should not even be implemented on cars.

I'm sort of reposting an earlier post since I havent gotten any responses.

So, I'm interested in leasing a 330i before my current car lease comes due (Feb. 20th).

I believe the current money factor and residual for a 330i with 10k mi/yr is .00195 and 65%, respectively.

Do you guys think the MF will go up or the residual will go down for the month of Feb.? If so, this would make leasing more expensive and it would probably be better to make a deal in January. Does my logic sound correct? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  • blueguydotcomblueguydotcom Member Posts: 6,249
Wouldn't worry. leasing deals get more attactive the further into the year you go. By April/May I'd exect an even more attractive lease number.
  • maxdieselmaxdiesel Member Posts: 4
Thanks for the help on the lease. I will work on negotiating the price and the MF. I appreciate the feedback on Active Steering too, I felt it sounded a bit gimmicky but needed a sound opinion. Thanks for yours.

If my dealer is not willing to negotiate price and MF, do you think I would be successful elsewhere. Never negotiated a lease before. I want the best deal, but I don't want to spend days working on it.
  • blueguydotcomblueguydotcom Member Posts: 6,249
No matter what, negotiate price. The MF a point or two lower will help but knocking two K off the purchase price will make a major difference in your payements. I strongly suggest that anyone looking to lease should visit leaseguide.com

I am turning in my 03 BMW 325i in 3 weeks for lease end. First of all, I am 21,000 miles over my limit at 20 cents a mile. Also, I have body damage to the car. I estimate the damage to be at about 3500. My buyout price is 19,500.

I have been racking my brain for a while now and dont know what to do. Do i turn it in and reap the damages, or is that just plain stupid? Do i buy the car, then trade it in on a new one? Should i fix the damages before i trade it in if i buy it?

    Help!
  • blueguydotcomblueguydotcom Member Posts: 6,249
Do the math. 21,000 over at 20 cents a mile = $4200. Add that to the body damage and you're looking at some serious dough flying out your window.

    1. Check Edmunds and find out what the car is really worth. Maybe you can sell it for a smaller loss?
    2. Get your car appraised for repairs. that much damage must be covered by your insurance...pay your deductible and take your medicine.
    3. take it to a BMW dealer and ask what they think will happen.

Buying the car may be a viable option if it's worth more than 16k with that mileage (body work not included).

Why the hell are you driving around with 3k in body damage to a 3 year old car?! And why didn't you do something before you went over your mileage limit?

I've leased a few times and I always figure out how many miles per week I can go without risking penalties. When I had a job 90 miles roundtrip from home I went out and bought a commuter car. That car, which I sold last summer ended up costing me 2k in depreciation and $300 in tires/oil changes over 30k miles. Small price to pay considering two tire changes on my 330i woulda cost me 2,000 alone. add in the extra fuel costs and I would easily have surpassed my expenses. Can you imagine having a 330i 30,000 miles over its lease limit? Egad!

Finally, BMW offers you a chance to buy miles at either 5 or 10 cents BEFORE turning in your lease. Call BMWFS and ask about the program.

I live in Minneapolis and negotiated a deal on a 325xi for $800 over invoice.
  • np1np1 Member Posts: 6
Wow, I think you got a very good deal. Was that "Motorwerks BMW" ? Did you buy or lease? How was your buying experience? Can you tell me if there any manufacturer to dealer incentives when you bought yours.

In your opinion, is it better to get financing throught my own bank or does BMW offer any attractive rates?
  • interstaterinterstater Member Posts: 2
Which MSP dealer did you negotiate that deal with -- Motorwerks in Bloomington or Sears in Minnetonka? Was it a long drawn out process or relatively painless? I've only been at it a week, but stuck on $1,000 under MSRP for 325xi or 330xi. The Infiniti threat doesn't seem to phase them. Any advice would be appreciated.
  • np1np1 Member Posts: 6
    325xi base 32800
    Premium package 2900
    Auto 1275
    Paint 475
    Destination 695

    comes out to be 38145

Invoice price on edmunds shows 35005. Even if I could get on for 36k would be just peachy. Unlike other makes, BMW does not give the dealers any holdbacks. It makes it harder to negotiate. Where can I get this car for 36K?
  • eddypeddyp Member Posts: 14
Thanks blueguydotcom, I think I'll wait until a week or so before my lease ends and then find a deal.
  • pavanpavan Member Posts: 6
Whoa - that sounds too good to be true. The best I have managed to get quoted is $1200 under MSRP. For a 2006 325Xi with Premium, Metallic Paint and Cold Weatehr, the MSRP is 37720 and I was quote 36520 which is 1200 less.

    Which dealer is this?

I'm attempting, without much success, to find a reasonable lease on a 2006 325 xi Sports Wagon. The lease would be for 36mo/15k. If I'm not mistaken, the residual on this vehicle would be 60% and the MF would be .0020. Unfortunately, every dealer I have talked to (3 so far) will not offer me that MF and says that this (marked-up MF) is how they make their money. They acted shocked that I would try to negotiate this amount down to the BMW Finance's lowest rate. Credit is not an issue as mine is great. Am I being unreasonable? Frankly, I'm disappointed in some of the games that are being employed by these dealers. One said they couldn't lower the MF because of the "deep" discount on the price. The "deep" discount amounted to $685 below MSRP which was completely absorbed by the .00225 MF. Any thoughts? FWIW, I live in Chicago.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,338
    1) You are buying a car that just came out.. Prices might be a little stiff for awhile..

    2) The .0020 money factor is if you make a security deposit.. without the deposit, the base is .00215.. If this is the case, then .00225 isn't much of a markup..(though you should insist on the base rate).

    3) BMWFS leases are pass/fail.. if you qualify, you qualify.. any move up in the rate is purely for extra dealer profit.

I don't think you are being unreasonable... but, that doesn't mean the dealers you are shopping are going to do what you want, either.. You might have to expand your shopping horizons...

If you're uncomfortable with a deal, look elsewhere. Unless there exists some pressing need, go with the deal that makes you happy.

Patience usually pays off with car purchases. I've never heard anyone say, "I tried too hard to get a deal I liked but in the end took one that made me feel used."

The dealer was Sears Imported Autos. Motorwerks BMW was not nearly as aggressive in their negotiations.

It will be a purchase - have not taken delivery yet.
A couple of weeks ago I decided against the 325xi and placed an order on a 330i - Sears was willing to cut me that same deal ($800 over invoice) on the 330i.

The buying experience was flawless. The Client Advisor I dealt was was awesome.

There currently are no incentives on 2006 3 Series.

The rate BMW gave was around 5.5% - not horrible but there are better rates at Banks or Credit Unions.

Here are the specs on the vehicle:

    2006 325xi Sedan

    Exterior
    - Alpine White

    Interior
    - Burl Walnut Wood Trim

    Options
    - Sport Package
    - Steptronic Automatic Transmission
    - Cold Weather Package
    - Premium Package
    - Satellite Radio Preparation
    - Comfort Access
    - Xenon Adaptive Headlights

    MSRP: $41,095
    Invoice: $37,695
    Negotiated Price: $38,495

They also throw in free floor mats and there are not any MACO or training fees.
  • no_exitno_exit Member Posts: 15
As stated in a a previous post, it was Sears Imported Autos. The process was simple - I emailed Mototwerks, Sears, Park Place Motors (in Rochester), and Vern Eide (in Sioux Falls). I told each one of them that I was looking to pay $500 over invoice and the first dealer to reply with that price would get my business. Within a few days I received a reply from each dealer - none of them came down to $500 but here are the amounts I received:

Vern Eide - $1400 over invoice
    Motorwerks - $1100 over invoice
Park Place - $900 over invoice
    Sears - $800 over invoice

I called Sears, confirmed there were free mats and no goofy fees, then went in that afternoon to ink the deal.
  • max_andersonmax_anderson Member Posts: 37
I wasn't expecting to get a great deal, just a fair one. The price I was quoted included a $700 security deposit, so the dealers were marking up the MF by between .00025 and .0005 AND basing the lease off of sticker. As far as if I qualify for BMWFS, there is absolutely no doubt. Oh well, time to look at Audi I guess.
  • agbasheragbasher Member Posts: 18
    no_exit,
Did you ask for the free mats/goofy fees exemption up front in your emails to the dealers?

I am in western MPLS suburbs and hope to make a similar deal on 330xi with Sears. I had heard they won't deal on the xi's, only the i's.

Thanks for all the info on your purchase.

I'm curious as to why you switched from the xi to the i -- particularly in MN? Given the $800 over invoice deal, did they seem to care if it was for an xi or i?

I hope you enjoy your new ride.

I AM LOOKING TO LEASE A BMW 325 XI FOR 15K A YEAR AND THE AMOUNT OF MONTHS ARE FLEXIBLE. I LIVE IN NJ. THE PRICE I WAS QUOTED WAS $498 WITH ABOUT $3,000 DOWN FOR THE FOLLOWING:
    GREY METTALIC ($475)
    AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ($1275)
    POWER FRONT SEATS ($995)
    HEATED FRONT SEATS ($500)
    NAVIGATION ($2000)
    BMW ASSIST (750)
    SIRI PREP (75)
    DESTINATION (695)
IS THIS A GOOD DEAL? :confuse:

A little off topic on pricing but here is my answer to your question...

Why did I switch from an xi to an i? Well, after reading forums such as this one, bimmerfest, e90post, etc., talking to friends with RWD cars and other BMW owners, it appeared that the xi was not as important as I had originally thought. The 330i offered greater performance, chrome trim, bigger brakes, all of the options I wanted and it came out to about the same price as the 325xi I had on order. If the 330 gets squirrelly in the snow and ice, I can always go out and buy a set of snow tires.

I am looking to lease a 2006 330xi 15k/36 month with the following options: Premium package,Sport,Nav,Comfort Access, Heat seats, 5 speed, Metallic paint, destination. MSRP $45770. I was quoteed $670 w/out tax with $1600 down. I think it is too high. Any suggestions as to how much over invoice for this car, the money factor I should demand, and what "other" fees they incorporate that I should request they remove.

A local dealer is offering me a .00305 MF on a 2 year / 20k mile loan for a 325, including a .0004 markup to the base BMWFS rate of .00250 and .0015 required by BMWFS for first time lessees. I understand the markup is allowed. Is the first-time bump required?

    I am looking for:
    Auto Trans
    sport pkg
    premium pkg
    xenon light
    color: arctic metallic

Dealer will see for 750 over invoice (no MACO), is this a good deal?
Also what Money factor and Residual % should I pay for
    Lease 3 yr 10K
    or
    Lease 2 yr 10K

Also I have a X5 3.0i (2005) fully loaded that I have leased for 10 months (36 months contract). What is the likely hood that BMW will just over the X5 lease. I don't want to pay extra to end the X5 lease.

    Thanks.

    hi~ guys.
i've been waiting for my new bmw 330i almost 3weeks.
dealer called me yesterday, and he said i had to wait another 2weeks because the car has deliveried from germany.
actually, when i signed on lease he promised i can get the car within max 3weeks. he didn't tell me the car was coming from germany, and he said that every new 3series are imported, so the schedule always can be changed. is he right? do you think that i have to wait another 2weeks? if he change the schedule again, what i have to do? i already paid the security deposit (1000$) for the car.
this is the first time to be the owner, and i am a foreigner. please, say something to me.. thanks guys.

Every BMW except the Z roadster and X 5 (mfg in South Carolina) are built in Germany. It usually takes about 6-8 weeks from time you place order for it to arrive at dealership so your dealer's estimate is not far off. It only takes about 2 days to build the car but it is the backlog at the shipping port that accounts for the bulk of the wait. Assuming you didn't order some crazy color combination, your sec deposit is refundable, however, each dealership is different....that should have been something you clarified at time of order.

    details:
    24 month lease
    10k miles/year
    $3900 total out of pocket
    $400.47/month (includes tax)

I really value all the advise that this board provides, so is this an OK deal?

    Thanks in advance!

    I get a quote for 36490.
MF .00290 (seems high to me)
    65% resudual for 10K 36 moths.
Is this a good deal? Dealer claim they are allowed to make a small profit on the lease MF.

I've made the decision to lease an '06 330ix. I would appreciate a perspective on an effective strategy to use to get the best lease payment. Should I approach this by first attempting to negotiate a capitalized cost relative to a discount from MSRP or amount over invoice? What other key negotiating points should be considered? I am aware that the money factor is variable. I am also aware that the residual is variable depending on mileage built into the lease.
    Thanks.
