This is horrible!! I just purchased a 325 i on Friday, December 30th to find out on Tuesday, Jan. 4th they have 2,500.00 marketing support. I'm so disheartened. I got this car from a local dealership and only received 1,000.00 off the sticker price and was told this was the best I would be able to get. I'm suffering from a huge case of buyers remorse. Anybody with some tips on what to do? I called BMW and they said sorry but nothing they could do. I just feel like there should be some kind of help for people that just purchased a car days before. I see the car on carsdirect now for 3,500.00 off sticker price and I'm sick. I don't want to hate my car from the start but that's the way I feel at the moment. :(

To be blunt... you just have to get over it.. regret won't do you much good..

You did the best you could with the information you had at the time.. It really has nothing to do with the car you are now driving..

If it makes you feel better, thousands of other people did the same thing... Try not to link the buying experience with the driving or owning experience.. It is the same car, no matter how much you paid for it....

Hmm Makes the $500 under invoice not so great if they get $3800.00 back. Id go say 500-750 ? over invoice then deduct the $3800.00 incentive.I never like barganing off sticker price.

Look under "incentives" on the new car pricing on BMWs on this website.

The marketing support is for the RWD 325 and 330 sedans only.

Edmunds does not list any marketing support for the AWD or coupes/convertibles.

Especially with the big dealer cash...should you take that off MSRP or off Invoice? I looked up the Fremont Autonation site and they didn't seem to have that many 3series? Did 04pilot end up buying from there? Almost seems like it would be worth the trip from VA?
  • 05-325i05-325i Member Posts: 6
I made the same mistake as you did on 12/30. Now, I understand why there is a $160 training fees and they charged us for that too Arggggggggg

I think a new "BMW remorse" forum should be created.
  • paulepaule Member Posts: 382
You should take that off of invoice and then allow whatever dealer profit you can get away with.

That money directly lowers the price the dealer pays so the dealer is paying invoice - the incentive.

I would use that as a starting point as to the price you should negotiate.

I feel for anyone that recently purchased. The only thing keeping me from hanging myself is that I bought an xi which does not have the incentives on them.
  • hotdosahotdosa Member Posts: 2
    Thanks kyfdx.

Do you know the residuals and money factors that would be applicable now?

Also, can't I bargain to use the 2500 incentive to reduce my net cap cost?
  • 05-325i05-325i Member Posts: 6
Paule, you got the right idea. If I am still in in the market, I would definitely follow your advice.

There is a line between love and hate and I got 25,000 reasons to cross that line. I am trading in my new 2005 325i for the Acura TL, this weekend.

I am now negotiating with Peake BMW in New Orleans for a 2005 330 CiC MSRP $44,600

                       Sparkling graphite $475

                       205 Steptronic Trans $1275

                       522 Xenon lights $800

                       ZSP Sport Package $800

                       Total MSRP $48,645

This car must be ordered. The current offer is for $46,700.. Good or bad? Take it or work more?

I am a first time BMW buyer and am used to getting more off MSRP, but I checked edmund's TMV and it quotes $47,641.Please help

Don't take it yet. I'd would target around $2800 off MSRP. Dealer still make good money from that offer of $45845
  • paramount13paramount13 Member Posts: 18
I'm thrilled to see the $2500 marketing support, which ends 1/31/05. I'm looking at buying a stripped '05 325ia, no options, and probably even in one of the no-cost non-metallic paint colors of red, white, or black. MSRP/invoice (incl dest) are $31,270/28,700. Do any of you have a feeling for 1) whether the deal could get better after 1/31/05, 2) whether any of these stripped cars will be available after 1/31/05, and 3) what can I expect to pay for this car in So Cal? Invoice minus 2500 = $26,200. PS, there are currently cars like this in dealer inventory, but most seem to be black, and I really don't like black...

    Thanks for your help.

It is a fair offer.. No incentives on convertibles.. and you are getting a fairly low-optioned car... You are probably within $500-$1000 of the lowest you could hope for...

    1) No guarantees on the incentives lasting.. It seems doubtful they wouldn't continue for at least a couple of more months, but who knows? Certainly, no one knew they were coming in the first place..

    2) Any strippers available after 1/31? I'm sure some will be, but they probably aren't making any more... If you see one in the color you want, I wouldn't wait..

    3) Price? Invoice - $2500 incentive + $500-$1000 profit...

I'm thinking of leasing a 2005 325xi. I want metallic paint, premium pkg, cold weather, pkg, and a manual trans.

Dealer here has to order new and has quoted me a MSRP of 35,194 including destination charge of 695.00, Right now I have them down to $34,194. Their 36 month lease has a MF of .0018 and a residual of 21,027. Total taxes and tags would be $1554.68, which I could pay in cash, bringing pmt to about $506. Seems high to me and according to some online lease calculators. Deal or not? Can I get more off MSRP?

    Hello everyone,

I'm starting my quest for a used 2001/02/03 330i. My color preference would be mystic blue w/black int. but I not set on that color. Although I'd wouldn't want to purchase a white or silver and they seem to be the only ones available. Looking to keep it near or under $25K. Anyone have a suggestion where to search? Visited local lots with no success.

Also what are some key pointer to keep an eye for when looking at used 3 series?

    Thanks a bunch.
  • fireballfireball Member Posts: 9
Should the $500-$1000 profit figure listed be inclusive of any dealer fees? My local dealer charges a $399 Dealer Fee on a new 3 Series. Thanks!
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,274
Well.. $500-$1000 would be a killer deal.. Not every dealer will do that.. My local dealer won't do it...

One point I always try to make.. Determine what the invoice is... Then make your offer in real dollars... and never mention the term "invoice" in any negotiations...

Once you start working a deal from invoice + $XXX, then the dealer will start adding in all sorts of things..

Be aware that you might not be able to get the absolute rock-bottom deal from every dealer..

And yes.. dealer, document, conveyence fees.. are all part of the profit figure..

    hope this helps,

No...not a deal.. they are cutting you no slack at all..

    The base MF is .00125

If you waive the security deposit (not a good idea), that increases the MF to .0014

BMWFS allows them to mark up the money factor by .0004, which it looks like they have done.. resulting in an MF of .0018

It also looks like they may be bumping up the acquisition fee from $625 to $825, because that is the only way I can get the payment up to $506.

I didn't check the MSRP, but let's assume it is correct... Also, I'm assuming from the residual, that you are looking at a 3yr/36K lease.. This is how it should look

    MSRP $35,194

Selling price $33,194 ($1K lower.. aggressive.. should be at least $500 lower)

    Residual: 60% (325xi..3yr/36K)

    MF: .00125

    Cap cost: $33,819 (33,194 + 625 acq.fee)

Due at signing: Plates, taxes, 1st payment ($421.50), security deposit ($450)

    Payment: $421.50/mo.

If you use your selling price, the payment increases by $30/mo.

If you want the car, buy it now. I ordered mine today. $1000 over Edmunds invoice (evidently doesn't include MACO) should do it.

    1) An '03 is probably out of your price range..

    2) I'd stick with an '02, mostly for the extra warranty.. CPO units will have plenty of warranty..

    3) Depending on your need for horsepower, consider 325i as well.

    4) Here is a car an Edmunds poster just bought, similar to what you are looking for.. I believe they paid under $25K for it..

    5) There should be a LOT of dealers in the South Florida area... shop around.

My opinion is that the selling price is too high. I negotiated $1,500 off MSRP back in mid September. You should at least be able to get that much off and probably significantly more.

If you have to order it, I would think you would want to do that relatively soon with the new '06 version on the way.

Personally, I don't think your requirements are out of the ordinary. They look very much like what I found on the dealer lots when I first started looking.
  • paulepaule Member Posts: 382
That is correct. I confirmed off of my invoice the other day that the Edmunds invoice does not include MACO. It does however include the "Training service fee".

The Edmunds price does not include MACO because it varies by region.

Acura TL held their value. BMW incentive is killing my trade in value of my 2005 325i with less than 200 miles on it. They are asking me to take a 15K loss. Does it seem fair?
  • 05-325i05-325i Member Posts: 6
    1) I hope they do not drop more in prices. But, I do not know for sure.

    2) During the last week of December, I visited three BMW dealers and each dealer has atleast 15 of these strip down ones. They were running a $299/month lease special and giving a $2k off MSRP on them. I both mine on 12/30 and all three dealers still has roughtly the same inventory in their lot. So, I bet the chance is good they will be availalbe after January.

    3) $2500 under invoice (Edmunds or KBB)
  • fireballfireball Member Posts: 9
kyfdx...thanks for the info! I test drove a new 05 325i yesterday and loved it! Was looking at the Mercedes C230K too, but I'm leaning more towards the BMW, especially with the current $2500 incentive.

The car I drove was loaded with options (sport pkg., premium pkg., leather, etc..) but my local dealer has one coming in that is equipped with the options I prefer...Metallic paint, Sport Package,

Steptronic 5-Speed Automatic. MSRP $33,145, Invoice $30,435. I'm thinking that with the current $2500 dealer incentive I may be able to get the car for under $30,000 before taxes...$30,435 (invoice)- $2500 (incentive)= $27,935 (dealers cost). Add to that $1000 for dealer profit margin, and even if I pay the $399 dealer fee's I'd still be under $30,000 with $29,334. Does this sound like a realistic deal? The Edmunds TMV on this car for my area is $32,425 but does not factor in the $2500 incentive.

What is the current $2500 incentive? I didn't see it listed on this site. Also, I test drove a couple of 325's yesterday and there was no mention of it. Please let me know. Thanks.

Manufacturer to dealer incentive on RWD 325i and 330i only.. Edmunds has it listed in their incentives section..

    $2500 on 325i

    $3800 on 330i

Since it isn't a consumer rebate, the dealer is not likely to tell you about it.. But, if you know about it, you can use that to adjust your offer accordingly.

Anybody know the residuals or MF on an M3? The residual has got to be pretty high as even used, the asking prices are borderline almost what a new one cost.

    Hello All,

If my local dealer is not intersted in cutting me a deal, ...

    - Am I stuck there?

    - Do I have an option to go as far as I physically can to another dealer (another state) and then buy?

    - Can I order it over the phone/fax/e-mail, and the dealer will have it delivered either to my home or the local dealer? I keep reading about these killers deals elsewhere.

    Regards,

I just purchased an 01 330i, 5 spd, white, tan leather, sport package, HK sound, Xenon, Premium pkg with 41K miles for $26,000 @ Advantage Certified in Manassas, VA. Excellent dealership with only quality, pre-owned (mostly pre-leased) BMWs.

I was looking specifically for this vehicle (white, sport pkg, Xenon) and found that there were plenty of blues and silvers available, but there was only one white one that fit my description within 200 miles of Richmond VA, so you shouldn't have too much trouble finding a blue one.

As far as what to look for and watch out for, I was told to look for two things; have the dealer check all of the prior service records for any chronic electronic gremlins (problems). Check when the brake pads were last replaced (they seem to go quickly). Then check the obvious for a used car, accidents, tires, paint work, etc.

Good luck! I have had my 330i for about a month and I absolutely love it.
  • paulepaule Member Posts: 382
    Desi,

You are not stuck with your local dealer. You can buy from whomever you wish.

You can definitely buy from a dealer in another state. I did a few months ago.

You can do it without ever stepping foot into the dealership via fax/e-mail/mail.

The dealer can arrange to have it delivered to your house but be aware that they will probably charge $0.75/mile or so to have it delivered to you. Take this into account when making a decision where to buy.

Thanks for the help. This is the lowest I could get here in N.O. Probably will purchase...
  • riezriez Member Posts: 2,361
desi... There are a couple things to keep in mind.

    1. Many/most (all?) BMW dealers will only provide service loaner cars from people who bought from them.

    2. Depending upon the state, a non-selling dealer may not have to service your car. You might check your state's auto franchise law. In my state, only the selling dealer legally has to service your car. Rare, but every now and then a dealer will refuse to service a car. (Happened to me once back in '96 with my local Chrysler dealer. Zone rep steered me to another dealer. Never bought another Chrysler. Had two at the time.)
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,274
    1) This is true.... I found that my local dealer doesn't care, though... And.. for an in-warranty repair, almost all BMW dealers will provide a loaner..

    2) I've seen this with many domestic makes, and by law, I guess any business can refuse to serve any customer, as long as they don't discriminate for the usual reasons.. but, unless you've had some kind of personal run-in with a BMW dealer, and have been banned from their property, most service departments could care less where you bought it..

But, a quick phone call to your local service advisor can clue you in pretty quick... Most BMW SAs are pretty friendly, and will give you straight info. I'd definitely check that out before you buy out of town...

If you want the very best price on an 05' then wait until October. The incentives could increase and their's an excellent chance of the 1.9% finance, which adds another $2500 savings over 60 months. You roll the dice on what's left, but it may be well worth the wait. Good luck.
  • bb101bb101 Member Posts: 7
Given that there is already $2500 marketing support in January, I cannot imagine what inventory will be like in October, unless its a demo.

The inventory on 2004's wasn't all that great in October (I was looking then), and the incentives didn't start in January, did they?
  • buymewhybuymewhy Member Posts: 2
I recently ordered a 2005 325i with manual transmission in December. The car is finally arriving this week or the next. I asked the dealer if he would take the $2500 off the price and he told me it did not apply to pre-sold cars. Does this make any sense or does he not want to pass on the incentive? He technically wont sell the car until the 28th of January when I pick it up. Does the incentive only apply to cars ordered in January?
  • cheng6991cheng6991 Member Posts: 10
I plan to lease a 330i ZHP with Xenon, leather , and cold weather package this month. Dealer incentives is $3800. What will be a good price in terms of monthly payment ? Sales tax is 8%.
  • goralgoral Member Posts: 149
I'm the person who purchased the car mentioned in post #2684. Unfortunately, I didn't get the car under $25K, but I was close enough, where I don't lose sleep over it :) The '02 330i seem to be doing around $21/$22K at the auctions, so finding a dealer that would sell you one under $25K with CPO warranty is definitely doable!

Heck, I would check eBay... There's quite a few 3-series bimmers being sold there every day! I'm sure you can find one near you, where you can actually see and drive the car before you buy it. That's what we did few months ago when we bought my wife's Infiniti FX35...
  • mafernamaferna Member Posts: 83
The incentive is good for the date when the car is reported to BMWNA as sold, and that date would be when the car is actually delivered, not when you placed the order.

So you should definitely ask your dealer to pass on the $2,500 incentive to you.
