    hello,

The 325xi I ordered had arrived early and is sitting on the dealer lot.

I've informed them not to give it for test drives.

how many miles is ok for a brand new car ? I was thinking 5 miles ?

    thanks.

I live in a southwest suburb of Boston and am in the market for a new BMW. I've previously dealt with Foreign Motors West (Natick), but would like to hear from anyone who has negotiated a good deal with the same or other area dealers. "Prices Paid and Buying Experience" information would be very helpful. Thanks. pjt

Was wondering what would be a good price for a 2005 330CI convetible in the Pensacola, FL area?
Where is a good place to find info on actual dealer price?

I have not seen them posted yet, ive heard they usually rotate between good lease factor and dealer cash.Dealer seems to think they need both to move the 05's when the 06 pricing is released.

Btw, do you need anyone to deliver your car to Houston from FTW ? :)

Here at the Edmunds site they are showing the same incentives for February as January. Dealer cash in the amount of $3,800 for the 330i and $2,500 for the 325i.
  • paulepaule Member Posts: 382
My car had 3 miles when I first looked at it and 6 miles when I finally got it. They had to ship it up to me so it's possible it picked up another mile or two.

I think around 5 is reasonable to believe that they aren't driving it. I'm pretty sure I put more than 5 miles on the cars I test drove all by myself so I wouldn't be concerned with 5 or 6 miles.

Those incentives have definitely been extended into February..

I'm Just curious if this is a good deal or should be try to negotiate down.

    36 month/ 15k per year

    MSRP = $42,545

    Gross Cap cost = $41,300

    Net cap cost = $42, 674

    Monthly payment $574.04

This was w/ $2500 down which paid for the first month's payment, the $900 acquisition fee and $600 refundable security and cap cost reduction of $325.

    Residual was set at 58%

    Money factor = .0011

It's not clear to me if he took anything off of the price of the car? What is the gross cap cost? is that the "price"

Thanks for any help on sorting this out.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,528
    1) base rate is .0010 I get a number closer to your payment using that rate.. either way, the difference is only $7/mo.. 58% residual is correct.. assuming 15K/yr.

    2) Gross cap cost looks like the selling price.. Subtract your cap cost reduction ($325), then add... Tax? or License fees? of $1700 to get the Net cap cost? I'm guessing.. I'd assume they are adding the tax into the cap cost..

    3) $900 acquisition fee? The base fee is $625, and they are only allowed to mark it up to $825.. Unless you are in NY, or one of the other states with similar vicarious liability laws...

    4) Assuming I have all the above correct, you should negotiate a selling price about $1000 lower.. Only pay $625 for acquisition fee.. and do not make a cap cost reduction...

This would change Gross Cap cost to $40,300, net cap cost to $41,999. Payment would change to $552/mo.. using MF of .0010 and 58% residual.. Upfront would be $1900 ($625 acquisition, no cap cost reduction).

Or roll the acquisition fee into the cap cost.. $42,624 net cap.. with $1275 due at signing.. payment of $572/mo.. (this is the way I would go).

This all assumes that the extra $1700 in the cap cost is taxes and licensing fees... You don't have negative equity in a trade-in, do you?

My current lease of a Lexus is up at the end of April. I'm looking to lease a 325ci or 325 convertible then. After reading past posts, it seems as though there will be slim pickings.

Question 1) Can there be a better deal had on a 2005 model over a 2006.

Question 2) If I find a 2 year old low mile pre owned BMW, do they lease out ok?

Question 3) Is the money factor different on every model?

Thank you in advance for any help I receive on these questions
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,528
It is only the '05 sedans that they have stopped making... there should be plenty of convertibles available this spring.... And the '06s will be the same body style as the '05.

Leasing pre-owned is not usually a good deal.

Money factors vary according to model.

There is no "rebate", as such.. It is a BMW to dealer incentive.. So, whatever price you negotiate is the price... Regardless of financing, etc....

You may want to check with Wagner BMW in Shrewsbury. We purchased our 325xi through them about a year ago and the process was painless. It is a brand new dealership with a great service department. At that time the deal was initiated through the internet and we dealt with the same person through the whole process. Unfortunately I no longer live in MA, but can only say good things about them.

Thanks, I also read its good for certified pre-owned and ED. That would be a good savings in conjunction with ED.

Can anyone tell me how they structure the special lease deal they are showing on the BMW website for the 325xi. (Money Factor / Residual)

Also, What are the current money factors and residual percentages on a 3 year / 12,000 mile lease on 2005 325 CI Coupe and 325 CI Convertible?

What is the standard security deposit on these vehicals?

I have a meeting with my salesman later today and will ask him these questions. It a good way to check on him.

    Thanks for your help.

I've heard the numbers are the same as January, but I can't verify that yet..

The acquisition fee is $625 and the security deposit is always the payment rounded up to the next even $50..

Should know the February numbers by tomorrow.

Just returned from a dealership which is advertising "No Haggle" price on 6 cars.

    All 3 series sedans.

One that caught my eye was a 330i Cold weather pkg, Premium Pkg, Auto Trans and Xenon for

    $ 36,664

Figuring the invoice, I come out to 38,525 minus the $3800 Mfg to dealer mkt incentive bringing thier cost to 34,725. The difference is

$ 1939.00 What is a good mark up to shoot for on these car? $1,000? $1300,00?
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,528
Depending on the dealer, you should be able to do anywhere from $500-$1500 over..

IOW, at least $6K off MSRP on any 330i..

From past experience I know that you're the go-to guy for the subject information. Does .0019 seem reasonable for the 330 convertible at this time? They've also quoted .0022 for an ED lease, which confirms your previous post of a .0003 premium for ED. Also, why would a dealer (Massachusetts) be willing to offer a larger discount on a non-stock US-delivered vehicle than a Europen Delivery car? The $3,120 MSRP difference (US vs. ED) shrinks to only $2,300 after both deals are discounted. The difference in monthly lease payments is only $20. I haven't analyzed the numbers but here's what I'm working with. US MSRP: $49330; ED MSRP: $46,210; US Invoice: $45,515; ED Invoice: $42,165; US Selling Price: $47,300; ED Selling Price: $45,000. The monthly lease payments are $682 and $662 respectively for 36-month lease with 15,000 miles/year. Can you make some sense of this for me? As always, thanks for sharing your time and knowledge. I'm going off the January numbers.. I "think" they are still the same in February, but no independent confirmation, yet..

    1) They are bumping the MF the maximum .0004

    2) The ED MF is indeed .0003 higher than the US MF, but BMWFS makes your second lease payment for you, when doing ED.

    3) It looks like they should be about $1000 lower on the ED price.. My guess is they figure they have you sold, and think that they can get lucky and get a little extra profit, if you go ED..

    4) When I run their numbers, I see a difference of about $40/mo. with ED, even using their numbers.. And... are your numbers pre-tax? I show about $662 for US, $622 for ED, and that is with an $825 acquisition fee (also bumped up) figured in to the cap cost..

    5) If anything, they should be able to do a slightly larger discount via ED, as they don't have to pay MACO (adv.fee) on an ED car, or lose a spot out of their allocation..

At first glance, I thought that the $2K discount off of US MSRP was a pretty good deal for a convertible, but they are grabbing for every extra dollar on the lease.. And on ED, they are just flat out trying to take advantage of your savings..

    Example..

    US MSRP $49,330

    Selling price $47,300

    Cap cost $47,925 (includes $625 acq.fee)

    MF .0015

    Residual 61%

    Payment $624/mo. + tax

    upfront 1st pymt,security deposit, title/license fees.

    OR

    US MSRP $49,330

ED selling price $44,000 (I knocked off $1000)

    Cap cost $44,625

    MF .0018

    Residual 61% (of US MSRP)

    Payment $546/mo. + tax

    Upfront..same as above..

One possible problem.. Maybe they are figuring the ED deal residual on the ED MSRP, instead of the US MSRP.. that would be wrong.. because, the car is coming back to the US, and should have the same residual regardless of US or ED purchase.

    I am shopping for a 325i (sedan)

I considered ED but was told today that BMW is not taking any more ED orders for the '05 sedan.

I looked at leasing but the numbers posted below seemed "high" when compared to some of the other posts here.

MSRP $ 31,270 (auto trans was only option)

    Residual 59%

    MF .00225

    36 mo

    10,000 miles

    350 disposition fee

    350 security deposit

    cap cost $ 27,377

    monthly pay $309 plus tax

    down payment $2500

I am assuming that I could buy the vehicle for the same $27,377 cap cost (which would include the dealer's fees).

    any suggestions?????

    thanks

    any suggestions????

Last month (JAN) Herb Chambers advertised a base 325 (no options) for 25990, 4000 under list. That should be the going price in our area. Using that ad as reference I offered my dealer that price plus invoice on options I wanted: sold, my wife took delivery 2 weeks ago. Watch out for documentation charges, my dealer charged $95. some area dealers are up to 400.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,528
There is a $2500 BMW to dealer incentive on the 325i... So, there really aren't any further lease incentives...

So, lease vs. buy is more on the merits of each option, and how they fit your needs.. There is no implicit financial advantage either way..

So, yes.. in that example, you should be able to buy the car for the same $27,377.

Thanks again for the invaluable insight. Your comments have prompted more questions: (1) You indicate that "they are bumping the MF the maximum .0004"; does this mean the dealer is able to manipulate the MF from what BMWFS is currently offering as a means of increasing their profit? Can they do this? Can they also increase the acquisition fee from what BMWFS establishes? Relative to (4), the monthly lease numbers include 5% Mass. sales tax. I agree that they should be able to extend at least the same discount for ED as they're offering in the US deal. I agree with your assessment that they're trying to take a piece of my ED savings. When you suggest that they're trying to grab every extra dollar on the lease, are you referring to the bumped up MF and acquisition fee? Besides these 2 things, is there any other aspect that troubles you? I have a 1:00pm appointment with the dealer tomorrow, and I want to be well prepared! Thanks again.

    Regards

    pjt

You are correct in all of your assumptions.. BMWFS allows the dealer to mark up the money factor by .0004 and the acquisition fee by $200.

The base acquistion fee is $625.

Just as an example... On your lease, the .0004 bump translates to a $31/mo.+tax increase in your monthly payment.. A $200 bump in the acquisition fee is another $6/mo... Pretty easy for them to give you $2000 off MSRP, when they are adding over $1300 to your lease payments..

Actually, this kind of deal is more typical than not, for a BMW dealer..

That said, $2000 off MSRP is a pretty good price on a convertible.. If you could get them to use the base rates, then you have the chance at a pretty good deal. The residual is very strong right now..

Use my examples above for what the deal "should" be.. Since you have a target price, there is nothing wrong with negotiating a monthly payment, instead of selling price... Just make sure all of the terms are the same (36mo., 45K, Total due at signing under $1400, payment of $625+tax).

If you can't save at least $50/mo doing ED, it really isn't worth the cost of going over, IMO.. But, you should be able to do ED for about $550/mo.. (one warning... I haven't figured a lot of leases doing ED.. I think I have it all straight, but it isn't my money).

Thank you. This "bump-up" phenomenon for MF and acquisition fee is interesting to know. I was feeling a little deceived by my salesman until you mentioned that it's more typical than not for a BMW dealer. Nevertheless, as a repeat customer (business lease) with a partner who's pricing out a 530i lease deal at the same time, I'd expect to be treated better. Is the bump-up practice so common that it's unreasonable for me to believe that they'd concede this? I guess I won't know until I ask.

Anyway, a combination of "both-travel-free" airfare by BMW, and the inherent cost savings off MSRP seemed to make ED a no-brainer. However, if the dealer wants to share in the savings, it diminishes the attractiveness of the ED option.

I appreciate the benefit of your informed perspective. Please feel free to respond with any additional thoughts if you're so inclined. Thanks again.

In previous posts I reported that the 325 production was stopping, so I was having trouble finding the 325 wagon that I wanted. I tried other cars (subject for another forum) and ended up really wanting the bimmer, so came back. The original broker and dealer I worked with were not tryig hard enough to find my car, or were taking my original specs too seriously. When I opened up the search and agreed to get some options I wasn't sure I needed (like premium package) a lot of cars appeared, including the color combination and HK stereo that I wanted. So I finally got a car that I am very happy with (well, just got it yesterday).

Here are some specifics. First, carsdirect.com is very good for pricing info and their phone representative was very helpful. Second, the final dealer I worked with was very good, Pacific BMW in Glendale, CA. The internet contacts at all dealers were worthless, a waste of time. And the dealer I worked with originally was worse than a waste because they just tried to get me to take a car off their lot.

    And now the numbers:

325 iT, step, leather, xenon, premium, spate, HK

    MSRP 39020

    my price 36983

There was no nonsense like extra fees. Even mats included. Price sounds very high for a 325, but no incentives on the wagons and couldn't get this low anywhere else.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,528
The bump-up is pretty common.. and if it is business-as-usual at your dealership, they probably wouldn't even think to not do it.. It is possible that the CAs are given the numbers with it already added in..

Now, if you asked if they were the base rates, and they lied.. well....

ED should save you a lot of money.. It really is no extra work for your dealer.. If the savings aren't as great as the difference in invoice price, ask them why.. You might have to shop around, if they don't seem interested in negotiating further... Even the selling price they quoted you for ED would be reasonable (convertibles are typically discounted less), if they were using the base rates.. At that price, the payment would be around $575/mo+tax, which is pretty darn cheap for a $50K car.

    Good luck!
