No extras added to the CR-V, as is off the boat. Hope to add the fog lights, body side molding and cargo covering in the near future.
Up here, the navi models are few and far between and the dealers are not "dealing" - they don't have to.
I have been looking at mid sized SUV's for the past 3 months. I drove the RX 350, MDX, RDX, LR2, Acadia, Lincoln, Cadillac, CX-7, CX-9, Murano, FX35 and Saturn Vue. Of all of these, the MDX was my favorite. I just couldn't bring myself to spend $44,000 on a car, regardless of how nice it was.
So I decided to purchase the new CR-V and feel pretty good about saving $14,000. It is much improved over the last generation and the navigation is much more intuitive than the Acura SUVs. All in all, a great little vehicle that is also fun to drive.

ps: the buying experience hasn't changed much... still a haggling game. we walked at first when they would not give us a price. they later called my cell on my way home with an offer.
I got the Silver CRV EX-L 2WD and I love it. I paid 26869 OTD (after taxes and all but before my trade). I emailed a ton of dealers and took the best price to Economy Honda in Chattanooga and they matched it. I traded a 2003 Civic Coupe which they gave me 9500 form, which is what I wanted to make selling it privately so I was very pleased when they got up to that price and that is why I decided to go ahead and trade.
The salesman I worked with was WONDERFUl so if anyone wants his name and number let me know and I will be happy to send it to you.
I LOVE MY NEW CRV!!!!!!!
Ended up with Continental Honda in LaGrange as they gave the best price, $23,300. Tried to get them to throw in a few accessories but no dice. I did get $1800 for my 1997 Acura Integra with 115,000 miles. (Carmax offered $2000 and so did another Honda Dealer). I know I could have done better with a private sale but just couldn't deal with one more car hassle at this point.
Just wanted to say thanks to all who contribute here- the information was INVALUABLE.

Places to avoid: Honda of Bowie, and Landmark Honda. The guys at Landmark Honda were real bullies and seemed to think that if they talked faster it would negate the fact that I had done my research and knew their numbers. We walked out of there unable to come to any agreement, although the place was dead and they were desperate to sell something.
Honda of Bowie was even worse. I had an internet price quote sent to me for a CRV EX 4WD that was only $200 above invoice. Although I had initially requested information for a 2WD, the price seemed so good (and there seemed to be so few 2WDs) that we kept in contact with the salesperson and made an appt. to see the car- this was 4 days before actually going out there. She called us early in the morning before our appt. We missed the call, and called back twice as we drove out there- she did not respond to being paged from the operator. When we got there she apologized, as there had been a 'typo' and the quote we had received was actually for a 2WD!! It was a lot to pay for a 2WD, and moreover was totally dishonest. I called her on the 'bait and switch' tactic but she told me that she had sent me an e-mail earlier that morning (while I was driving the 25 miles to Bowie), which basically covered her [non-permissible content removed] from any official complaints. Her manager refused to speak to us and we left after being treated very poorly.
Bottom line: avoid Bowie! But try to find a dealership outside the beltway, and be prepared for less flexibility right now in negotiating on 2WDs. And don't believe the appearance package jargon! If you don't want extras added onto your CRV for huge amounts of money, then tell them to get a car without the appearance package. It's doable, they come off the trucks everyday free of wheel locks, mudguards, and other things that dealerships like to charge a huge premium for.
I've bought a 2007 Honda CR-V EX AWD at Honda Village in Boston. First I asked about price over the phone from several dealership. The best offer about base price I got was $22,950. I eventually went down to Honda Village and got a price of $22,700. This price does not include tax (5.5% for Mass), title, and a flat processing fee. If I understand correctly this is $250 under invoice and $1900 under MRSP. I felt that there was room for further neogiaton but I did not really have time to do that because my daughter was really fuzzy. Anyway hope this helps and wish you all get a good deal.
Can I join your family?
I am looking for CR-V EX 2WD. Is $23,300 OTD or sale price?
I am right now negotiating for $23,500 OTD for CR-V EX 2WD. Is that worth to fight for this price or should I bump up my prices?
Is state inventory tax a legit fee?
Is veh inspection not included in tag and lic fees?
Thanks for the help!
$23,300 is the sale price for the 4WD and it includes the $595 destination charge. It excludes tax (6.5% for me), title, license and my trade in value.
Good luck!

Trying to get similar one for 2007 Honda CR-V?
Are you still looking for CRV. I can give my sales person details if you are interested.
By the way, I just drove from IAH down to NASA and back. Both David McDavid and Clear Lake Honda have at least 6 CR-V's each. I did not drop in but I noticed the ones at Clear Lake had roof racks which were added on. Not that way at Baytown, no add on's. At least not on mine..
Congratulations, I think yours is a great deal.
I got mine EX AWD + floor mats for $23,226 (includes destination) + doc fee $395 +tax
Enjoy your CRV.
One more piece of information for those who live around boston area. A dealer just called me today to offer me a base price at $22400 for CR-V EX AWD. (kinda late for me) That includes the destination charge and processing fee. You only have to pay the state tax and the registration fee.So, I guess if you really have time and are good at bargaining, you might be able to get a CR-V EX AWD at $23400 including everything.
Good Luck.
2. The salesperson told me that the room for EX-L is much smaller because the supply vs demand. 200 or 300 bucks over the invoice, at least at this point, is a good price.
My suggestion is that if you are going for a CR-V EX or LX, try to be as agressive as you could. You never know.
Unless Honda changed the rules, the 2008 models won't be out until middle of September. Since this is new modeal anyway, there will be no changes until the 2010 mid-model redesign.
I didn't even bother going there as I wanted a non-accessorized vehicle.
I live just a few minutes from Goodson and they had pretty much the same scam going.
I bought at John Eagle. They had the non-accessorized Silver EX I'd been looking for. During negotiations, they tried slipping in all that accessory BS to make up for what they were offering for my trade. When I called them on it and threatened to walk out the door, they relented.
I always say I haven't decided how I will arrange financing for it, yet. You need to investigate financing alternatives anyhow with them, because sometimes depending on the manufacturer you may find some very good % deals where you can keep your money invested and come out ahead. In a different vein, I bought a Ford a while ago and there was a financing incentive for 1.5K to finance with them. The minimum loan length before payoff (reading the fine print) was 3 months, so I financed the minimum amount possible, kept it for 3 months and paid off the loan (very reasonable rate), and got an extra 1.5K off the vehicle.
That won't necessarily apply for a Honda CR-V right now, but having the cash allows you to investigate all alternatives and keep your options open to find the best deal.
Keep all financing options open, until you negotiate and close on the price of the vehicle.
Do everything by phone and be very matter of fact. $300-400 over invoice is doable if you put your time in.

I know I can get 7% or better through my bank and put it against the house so when the big bonus comes in Sept. I'll pay it down and refinance. Then I'll be able to claim the interest on my taxes. I wasn't overly concerned with the financing because I knew I'd be doing refi anyway.
I broke -$500 from even on my trade but still got better than the $13,000 originally offered. I took it because I didn't know until today that your trade in is subtracted from the taxable amount (at least in Illinois anyway). So I actually got about $15,500 for my trade in when you factor in $1000 that I saved in taxes. I had considered going to CarMax to sell it because normally they give good money whether you purchase or not, but in this case I don't believe I could have done better than the $15,500.
I approached the dealer on a rainy Friday night and have already driven every SUV under the sun. I told him I had no trade because my younger sister was buying my quickly depreciating Impala. After a lengthy test-drive and up until 1 a.m. researching here and at other websites I followed up Saturday morning with 6 internet quote requests. The dealership that I test drove for the previous evening came back with the best quote. Not a good quote but this is the wifes birthday present and it's the car she wants.
After haggling over price and options I finally allowed him to sell me the car and then breached the trade-in subject. First offer was for $13,000. It blew my mind, did the whole blue-book vs. black-book argument and got in my car to leave (taking my time to adjust the seat, mirrors and safety belt). The manager approached my car and asked what he could do and I said I just couldn't afford to trade in for 13k because I owed at least 18k. I went back inside and after crunching some numbers I told them the least I could afford was to let it go at $15,000. They did the whole used-car manager private pow-wow and came back with a $14,500 offer. I explained how irritating it was that they couldn't do at least the other $500 but once I saw the savings on the taxes I took the deal (they knew I would, I'm still a rookie at this). They ran the numbers through and came back with a $14,909 pay-off on my trade-in loan and I acted surprised (I knew damn well what the pay-off was). It was fun to say the least. It's not often you get to play their game and I see why many of them enjoy their work.
They've ordered the accessories and I'll drop the car off for installation when they have everything in stock. The car was on their lot less than one week and while I was wheeling and dealing someone else was insisting on buying it. There was only one other in the area in that color with the leather and navigation so my wife would have been dissapointed if I hadn't been able to land it.
I think I did okay. Probably could have done better but like it's been mentioned; these cars are a hot item right now. I felt that $600 under MSRP or $1374 over invoice was a fair shake. Besides, it's kind of fun being one of the only ones around. You know, not seeing your car everytime you turn a corner. Like you would in a Murango. I do think accesory installation was a little steep but without any firm numbers and lack of experience on what it actually should cost I can't say. I'm not overly pleased or at all disappointed. Just kind of in the middle. The wife's happy and I get to sleep in my bed tonight though the dog house ain't bad snuggled up next to a Siberian Husky. Just smells kinda funky.

$40,722 for a CR-V! I guess marital bliss is that expensive these days.
All Hondas come with 60/60,000 mile powertrain warranty from the factory, already.
You better hope that your wife likes this CR-V for more than 6 years... to break even. A smoked in car is worth thousands less on the resale.
I think Murano (not Murango, unless you meant a Murano rear ended by a Durango) would have been cheaper.
Can anyone else see anything they may have done different? Do you think the other buyers on the lot were plants from the dealership to put pressure on me?
Thanks,
Octo13er
and a desire for lots of add-ons at the dealer. Try to avoid getting upside down by making a large down payment. Pay a little extra each month to get the car paid off. You can sell a car yourself for more than a dealer will give you, but that's a complicated process when you don't have the title.
The CRV is a nice car. The dealer makes a killing, however, with add-ons, and I just don't see the CRV as being a $30,000 vehicle. For that price you can get a certified Lexus RX that's just a couple years old, 20k miles and looks brand new.
Also, and someone tell me if I'm right about this, I could have afforded the $680/mth payment at 60 months but because the 66 month was the same % rate I opted for the 66 months. I figured if I up the payment each month to $700 that would put $80 toward the principle instead of only $20, but what I didn't consider is that the finance charge (the $7400) may have been less. Or would it? Interest rates being equal is the finance charge affected by the length of the term?
Anywho, all that finance stuff won't make a hill of beans because after 4 payments I'll be doing a refi with my bank anyway. I highly recomend that to any home owners that have never considered it. Bank refi rates are usually right on par with what the finance companies offer and with a lean against your house (kinda like a 2nd mortgage but without the usual second mortgage hassle) you can claim the interest on your taxes. So while you're paying 7% on the loan you get (and I forget the percentage) about 2-3% of that back. The only time it's not a good idea is when the dealer offers incentives like zero or 1.5% financing; or something to that effect. But often those incentives are offered with either the low rate or you can take cash back. So as anyone can see there are a multitude of ways to reduce finance costs. I'll guarantee one thing: it ain't gonna cost me $7400 to keep this car for 5 years.
