    Hi,

On the way to home depot, I stopped by Honda at McKinney to look at the color. I do not intend to buy CRV today. Only this dealer has one just sold Silver Moss (other 2 dealers do not have, but have lots of silver). We like this color after looking at it.

Then saleman asked for the offer. I gave out $19500 as drive out total. Then after couple of rounds, finally agreed to $19775 as drive out. They will call me by the end of month when car is coming. It has no equipment (such as mud gurads, tint etc) at all.

Tax here is 0.0625%. TTL is around $222. So I figured that the car price (including destination) is $18402. Or

    car: $18402
    tax: $1150
    Title: $222
    ---------------
    total: $19775

How does this sound? After signing the paper and paid $500 deposit, I got a call from another dealer which pissed me off two days ago (not letting me leaving and keeping telling me the price $19700 is stupid). He laughed after learning my price.

Do I get a good deal? Or why did he laugh?

Thank you for all of you for letting me get some idea of the price. In addition to pick up some fertilizer, I also get a CRV :-)

I just bought a CRV SE loaded with accessories from Boch Honda outside of Boston.

Of course they tried to sell me the various protection packages but they also tried to sell the extended warranty. It was a bumper-to-bumper warranty for 100,000 or 8 for about $1,700.

I do not pick up the car until Wednesday so I can think about it. Does anyone think these extended warranties are worth it?
  • lumbarlumbar Member Posts: 421
Not on a CRV and not for $1700.

If I may ask, what did they charge for fogs installed, assuming that was one of accessories.

Is ol' Ernie Boch still alive and kicking? :)

This looks very good to me. Don't know if there has been a price
increase, but in Dec 04 I paid $18989, which was invoice on a 2/FWD.

    Tax is specific to Texas.

They are getting a little back with that $222 for "title", but it still looks like a
close to invoice (or below) deal to me....you are getting an LX FWD for about $18650, which is darned good.

Here's some info for those in Rochester. I went to Dick Ide and asked their best price for an EX CR-V with Auto. They gave me a high price of 23,500 and would not budge so I said OK and left. The next day they were trying to call me back in. Instead I went to John Holtz and told them I had been looking and wanted their best price. They came back with a quote of 22,200 for the exact same car. I took it on the spot since they also threw in a roof rack, splash guards and wheel locks for half price. So, when in Rochester, don't go to Dick Ide.

Invoice on a 2WD is $18,656 (without destination charge). So if the $515 destination was included in the figures above, you got a great deal. If you paid the $515 in addition to the $18,650, you still got a good deal at invoice.
  • chiefjschiefjs Member Posts: 39
Tough to say, since I got so much it was all part of the deal.

However, I got a list of "installed prices" from another dealer. It shows $641 for the fog lights. Sound kind of high.

I got the SE with floor mats, armrest auto day/night mirror, metal look panel, back up sensors, splash guards fender flares, chrome exhaust, door visors, foglight kit, front grill trim, moonroof visor, rear air deflector, chrome side steps and wheel locks for $28,800.

The accessories installed price, according to the chart, was about $5,700. But like I said, I got everything as part of the deal.

Ernie died about a year ago. Young Ernie is in charge now. Seems to be doing quite well. Everytime I visited the Honda showroom, even in the winter, it was busy. The salesman says Ernie keeps his Lear Jet at the nearby Norwood Airport.

You have two years to deside whether you want the extended warranty or not, and if you head over to the extended warranty forum, you will learn that this same exact warranty (Honda Care) can be bought for under $900 from on-line dealers.

I signed something similar when I bought my CRV last week and financed through American Honda. Its free GAP insurance, but the 'cost' of this insurance is included in the finance rate (the salesman told me so). Nothing in life is free!

Well, I financed at 2.9% APR, my last Honda was financed at 1.9% APR. 2.9% is the best I have seen on the CR-V ever. Even if they rolled the cost into the interest, I am OK with it.
  • blueiedgodblueiedgod Member Posts: 2,798
Wow... that is great.. I wonder if it is now standard on all AHFC loans?

    regards,
    kyfdx

Dealer told me it was standard for all AHFC loans. It could be highly regional, or may depend on the actual downpayment. Maferna bought his CR-V same say I did, and he does not seem to have it. I am in Buffalo, NY, he is AZ. We both financed through AHFC at 2.9% APR.

............. That would nice if it was true, but it's not ......

Gap insurance is standard on the lease programs, not the purchase programs .. as of now, there is no standard gap insurance with any lender in any part of the country, and that includes Benz, GM, Audi, Fomoco, VW, Chrysler, Infiniti and Yota's ..... sorry for the bad news.

If it's on your contract, then you paid for it ... sounds like you outsmarted yourself - again.

Hi everyone. I've been trying to read the messages, but I haven't gotten through all of them yet. I have been lurking here on edmunds for some time now and have been doing some research into getting a 2005 Honda CR-V EX.

I've got my Silver Satin Moss EX configured with a roof rack and trailer hitch, and the dealer in Omaha, NE (I live about 3 hours away) gave me an out-the-door price of $22,266 - no additional fees.

Is this a good price? I only got the power moonroof because I thought it would be valuable when I decide to trade this car in in the future. Would it be better to go for a 4WD LX with the 6-cd stereo system and not get the moonroof?
    Thanks.

Terry, while respect your knowledge, it is not on my contract anywhere. I can post a scan when I get home tonight. The scan of the GAP notice states that "it is free of charge" I wonder if the dealer made a mistake and had me sign it, while I don't have the coverage. The guy who did delivery was not my salesman, but a young kid that strictly does deliveries.

Edit: I just re-read the GAP leaflet. "This Total Loss Protection Assurance is given in connection with the Retail Contract ("Contract") at no additional cost to you."

The question is, does financing through AHFC qualify to be called a retail contract? Would a Lease be called Retail Contract? I would assume that Financing through AHFC is a retail contract, which would entitle me to free GAP.

I am looking to buy a CR-v SE and was quoted the invoice price (23,321) +515 Destination charge + 198 Document Fee. I am not financing. Thanks for any help.
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
That is pretty good. No known dealer incentives so all they are making is the doc fee and about $773 in hold back. So I don't think you can do a LOT better than what you have - but you might save a couple of hundred with more haggling.

My boss picked up an SE for his son last month - $23,700 from Swope in Louisville - the price includes the truck, destination, and dealer fees. No trade in and no "BS" when they went to pick up the truck.

Tell your dealer to hand you the bill of sale and the MSO and you will go pay the taxes and title for yourself - and you don't want to pay them the $198 "doc" fee :-)

Of course, after standing in line at the DMV for while the $198 might not sound so bad.....

Is this a manual tranny? I just paid invoice ($21,437) for silver moss EX 5-speed in Mpls. The dealer told me the tow hitch was not worth what they charged to install it and suggested going to a local truck shop instead. Make sure and check the price of any accessory at handa-accessories.com, i bought stuff there for my Accord and it really is the true blue honda accessories. If it is a manual, are you planning on installing an armrest? I can't make up my mind if it is worth the effort or not.
  • drdeutschdrdeutsch Member Posts: 2
Nope, automatic tranny. Thanks for the info on the trailer hitch. I've been hearing that the roof rack really isn't worth it, either, so maybe I can forego both of those and just stick with the security system.
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
Read the install instructions at H&A (Handa) on the security system and the fog lights. If you want either, it looks like the dealer is the way to go - a lot of work for most folks to put those two items in. Use the H&A price for the purchase, then negotiate a fair amount for the labor.

I say the same thing about truck spoilers, no way to I want to drill holes in the trunk of a new car when I can get the dealer to do it :-)

    I agree.

They kill me posting these $55 doc fees - they should pass a law here to limit it to something chump-change like that :-)

Wondering if anyone had a recent buying experience in Cincinnati, Ohio.
What should be the out of door price in my mind while negotiating for a 2005 CRV EX AWD ? :confuse:
Just thought I would get an opinion from you all before I go ahead and make the big talk... :D

Took delivery of my CRV today from Bock Honda in Norwood, MA.

I ordered a lot of accessories including mats, rear cargo mat, sun roof visor, rear deflectors, window vent shades, chrome running boards, front grill trim, splash guards, arm rest, auto day/nigh mirror, rear sensors, and wheel locks for $28,800.

I enjoyed doing business with them.

I've got a quote of $18873 + tax, tags & doc fee on a FWD LX CR-V. About $300 under invoice. Is this a good deal?

Doc fees are high here in AZ, ranging from $249 to $400, Ouch!
  • bluewolfbluewolf Member Posts: 101
Does anybody know Honda's Tier 1 rate right now? My credit union is now at 5.25%.
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
I have sent several folks to Swope in Louisville with good results. You could probably do invoice or a little less including destination and dealer fees. I can e-mail the sales guy and ask, but I think last time on an EX it was right at $22,000 with the auto tranny.

    Dennis
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
I don't know, but Capital1 is doing the same rate for 37-60 month loans. A little lower for shorter terms and little more for longer ones.

If you want an Accord Honda will do 1.9% for 36 months :-)

I paid $450 under invoice + $299 doc fee, making it more like $151 under invoice. I went with Tempe Honda.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,273
If you are shopping in Cincinnati, I usually find the lowest prices at Performance in Fairfield.. Dennis has the prices pegged... I'd shoot for that.. If you can get that price in town, I'd jump on it...

Avoid Wyler Honda... lots of games go on there...

The sales guy at Swope just e-mailed me that $22,000 for an auto EX AWD would be "doable" for the truck, destination, and dealer fee. Let me know if you want contact info - or try the dealer in Cincy that kyfdx mentioned.

Did you buy yet? We just picked ours up last night. Silver Moss is gorgeous. It's a great color. Ours was just off the truck, 4/05 build date with 3 miles on it. Can't beat that! We absolutely love it. What did you decide re: accessories?
  • chomperchomper Member Posts: 1

Update: if anybody remembers I'm the poor sap who got shafted with a balloon note to the tune of $352 a month for a 2005 Honda CRV LX AWD. I had also been stuck with a $659.00 "Theft-Gard" policy that was slipped by me during financing.

Well I went back to the dealership and they cancelled the Theft-Gard and applied the $659.00 to my total payoff amount. I then did a lease buyout of the remaining $21000 payoff amount, putting $5000 down and financing the remaining $16000 over a 60-month term. My monthly payment is much lower and of course I now own the vehicle.

I guess I'm fairly lucky in that I got screwed initially, but by being forceful with the dealership was able to get everything more or less straightened out. I learned two lessons:

    1) Researching the vehicle, and it's wholesale\invoice\msrp prices is not enough. One must also have researched their financing options in minute detail before going to the dealership. The real enemy is not the salesman - it's the finance guy!!! Financing is where they get you, and also slip in extra charges like "Theft-Gard" and overpriced warranties.

    2) If you do realize belatedly you've been had, don't be too afraid or embarrassed to contact your dealer and demand restitution. They like it when they can screw you over unawares, but are uncomfortable with the prospect of an angry customer. Repeat business counts for a lot, especially if you've bought from that same dealer before. The dealership can be pretty flexible even after a contract has been signed.

Good man... and lucky. Too bad u had to learn from bad experience, just like I did from my previoud car-buying experiences. Not this time. Did thorough research, carbuyingtips.com is a good one to see if there's a new trick in the finance office u haven't heard about. Paid invoice for Sahara Sand CRV SE last Thursday - kind of lucky since it's a hard to find color, most did not have it. All negotiating over the Internet, had all 6 twin cities dealer bid. Of course there was one that try to pull a fast one with the finance guy - got the boot the other dealer at hopkins Honda was nice, spent less than an hour at the dealership, in and out. Nice car, the trim had it almost all, just added fog lights, wood trim and gold lettering.

If I may ask, how much did you end up paying out the door? I'm still researching prices before I buy in September and definitely want the SE.

    Thanks

Saturday I picked up an 05 CR-V EX Auto in Redondo Red for $200 under invoice (originally negotiated invoice but I made them back out their documentation/processing fee of $192), 3% tax ($670) and $62 tag/title for an out the door total of $22991. I was able to get a 60 month loan thru AHFC at 4.94%. Boyd Honda in Oxford, NC. The morons at Leith in Raleigh have their noses in the air and don't like to give anyone a good deal, so an extra 40 minute drive saved me hundreds. I noticed that the vehicle did not come with a leather(like) case for the owners manual (registration card, insurance card, etc) in the glove compartment. Did they forget to give it to me, or do they CR-V's not come with them. I have yet to buy a car that did not at least have something to put them into.

Just purchased a 2005 Honda CR-V EX auto with splash guards, wheels locks, and rear cargo mat for $21,510 + TTL. This was purchased at Schaumburg Honda in IL. It was quick. Also, got 4.9 rate from AHF.

Has anyone got a recent good deal to report on the CRV-SE; I am trying to make some comparisons. Without options, I have seen pricing ranging from $22,795 to $23,835 with a lot in between. I don't think the low number is doable in my area, and it appears to be a loss for the dealership.

Thanks for all the valuable info on this forum.
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
Just do a search for SE and the posting will come right up. My boss got an SE for his son for $23,700 for the truck, destination, and dealer fees.

There is a 3% hold back on the MSRP so the dealer can sell at our below published invoice and still make money. Of course if the dealer does not include destination in the quote they give you and/or charges you a high doc/dealer fee then they make even more money.

I got my CR-V SE a couple weeks back for invoice. I don't have any dealers in my immediate area, though, and there are only a couple are within an extended area, so I was pretty happy. Regardless, I think I did pretty well, and anything at or below invoice is a good deal on CR-V, especially the SE IMO.
  • wbwynnwbwynn Member Posts: 246
I have a quote of $23700 without the doc fee of $360.00. Thanks for the input.

What was your total price excluding taxes...thanks

I've been given the supplier 'special' pricing of 3% above invoice - which seems much higher than many of you are getting. (Invoice was in the neighborhood of 22,600). This is for a 2005 EX AWD Auto.

Should I try to negotiate down or should I check out other dealers within 100 mile radius or so?

I am in mid-Michigan - anyone have experience with Honda dealers in Michigan?

    Thanks,

I went through their internet department.

Just make sure you include their 299 'doc fee' when negotiating; if they say '300 below invoice' they are actually offering you invoice only.
