I got this price at Route 22 Honda for a Beige CR-V SE:
    Price 23,370
    NJ DMV 239
    Doc 199

I feel this is kind of high especially the documentation fee.

    Hi,

    Look for post #1607.

Be careful with the doc fees. When getting the quotes (x below invoice) make sure any of their "doc fees" is included. When I got my quote, they said $450 below invoice, but withe their insulting $299 doc fee it ended up being more like $163 below invoice, still good, but could have done better.

    Good luck!

Right - the Accord 2.4l did get a mechanical change - Variable Timing Control was added, and this did increase the HP by 10 from '05 , but was reduced to 6 due to the new SAE guidleines. No such change to the CR-V announced yet.

Definition of i-VTEC is VTEC with VTC. Accord 2.4L had that since it was introduced in late 2002 as a 2003 model. Am I missing something?

Accord and Element have the same engine, CR-V has same block but different head, just like TSX has same block but different head and pistons.

Edit I just checked the Honda site and this is what I see. "And every new Accord comes with revised steering and suspension, and a new powertrain warranty that covers 5 years or 60,000 miles."

    I feel cheated with my 3 years/ 36,000 miles warranty. :-(

With all the advice I've read here, I sent out some price quotes for a silver EX 05 in the Chicago area on Saturday late afternoon.

I guess most were closing down but the first couple have come back. $21,300 including destination. Which sounds pretty good, right?

What accessories can I reasonably ask them to throw in to close the deal?

And what tires should I ask for? I understand that the standard tires are slightly noisy?

What other final questions should I ask?

How much should I expect to pay for a car alarm?

Are there any major changes in store for '06?

The SF Bay Area dealers that quoted competive bids for me when shopping for a CRV-EX Auto, AWD are Serramonte, Anderson and San Leandro. Got mine for $22k out the door in May. Some of the others didn't even return emails or prefer to use the "old school" hard sell pressure tactics.

Good luck, your end of the month timing works to your advantage as they are trying to make their sales numbers too.

I see no such pricing here on the east coast. 22.9K plus tax is best I am getting quoted for an 05 here in PA for an 05 EX auto 4wd...for that I will wait for an 06! Now if if I could get one for $22K out the door...but to be honest the best pricing I am getting on even an 05 LX auto 4WD is 20.5K plus tax....

    Hi,
I just got a CRV SE in white. I had a rather unpleasant experience with Tempe Honda with the sales people quoting one price over the phone and giving another one when I went in person. The sales people were nice but the managers (who really control the price) lied straight on my face. They found out I wanted a white and almost all the dealers in town are out of white SE cars. So they raised the price once I got to the dealership. I had searched even the Tucson area and no one had a 05 White SE.
Finally I bought the car from Earnhart Honda in Avondale who had only one in white left. Avondale has a slightly lower tax than Phoenix and Tempe and I was very pleased with the way everyone dealt with me. Thought I would share my experience.
The lesson in my story is - unless you are ready to pay more - don;t let the dealers know you want a particular color if that color is hard to get.

I got the quote from a dealer and the extended warranty is pretty expensive. So I checked some online sources and got a fair price is $1000 for 7yr/100,000.
How much do you guys pay for the extended warranty?
  • crv_crazycrv_crazy Member Posts: 3
I did get Honda Care (7 yr/ 100000 miles) for $900. (Zero Deductible) This is in PA.
  • inusainusa Member Posts: 4
Where you got it? Dealer or not?
    Which website?
    Thanks a lot.
The cheapest one I quoted is from a website named "jayhondacare".
  • mockermocker Member Posts: 1
I found a website quoting $955, and asked the dealer to match it. They showed me a table showing their own cost of the same amount $955 but still give it to me at $965. I'm in Orange County, CA.
  • oneohthreeoneohthree Member Posts: 15
Something like 23,100 to 23200 because thats about the lowest I've seen on this forum.
  • mommananmommanan Member Posts: 11
Did your price include destination or was that additional? Also, what do people think of the Auto Day/Night Mirror?

Any color that you specify is going to be "hard to get" I learnt that long time ago. I am flexible on colors so I just tell them the colors I don't want. And let them decide which color to get. The first time I bought a car I told them I wanted silver, but as cancellation would take a black. I was offered silver at slightly higher price than originally qouted. I took the black. Second time, I told them I wanted black but would take silver as cancellation, I ended up with silver, and so on. Now I just tell them, I don't want Red or White. Whatever they find with the features I want (manual, sunroof...) is up to them. If the only one with the features is White or Red, they know I will ask for a substantial discount for non-preferred color, so they don't even bother getting it.

Well.. if your goal is to match the absolute lowest price you've found in these forums, on any car, you are likely to be disappointed....

Once you get within a few hundred, it is time to pull the trigger, IMO....

A dealer told me that Honda is offering a financing promotion starting Aug 31 of "2.9% 36 mos, 3.9% 48 mos, and 4.9% 60 mos". Is this true?
  • lklingellklingel Member Posts: 1
I was told the same thing from a dealer last night. Of course "I'm not supposed to tell you this yet....". I am looking at a CR-V LX. His first offer was terrible but he wasn't pushy. Since I wasn't armed with all of my info I walked and am now waiting for Internet quotes from nearby dealers.

First post to this forum. Have been reading for a few weeks - you guys have been a great help to me.

I've got a nice quote on a CRV SE (must be due to the 3% holdback y'all have been referencing...?): $22635 base + 515 destination + 99.70 doc fee + tax & registration - from DCH Academy Honda in Old Bridge, NJ (per recommendations from this forum). Now I'm trying to determine if the installation costs for 2 accessories is reasonable. All comments would be helpful:

Fog Lights - 549 installed; HandA cost=247.51; $300 installation seems high but the installation instructions are a bit complicated... Saw another forum quote range that this fell within so perhaps it is reasonable?

Running Boards - 629 installed; HandA cost=392.84; 236 installation...? Not as complicated as the lights but installation instructions recommend "qualified mechanic" should install...

Has anyone had their regular mechanic install these successfully for less? I guess I could bring the instructions to mine and ask him for an installation quote...

All other accessories I will buy from HandA unless the dealer can meet/beat their prices (including shipping)...
  • jmcmoorejmcmoore Member Posts: 11
P.S. The HandA costs I quoted include shipping to my zip code...
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,217
I'm not extremely handy.... although I do own a screwdriver... ;)

I checked out the installation instructions for both of those items... They didn't look extremely difficult, but I had the feeling that there would be a lot of little details that are easy to do, if you have the experience of doing them before.... but, would be very easy to screw up, if you were trying it for the first time...

Since both of those jobs would be a one-time thing... I can't imagine doing them myself... The installation prices are a little high, if you could do it yourself... but, for paying someone else? Not so bad...

Seriously.. the foglights... No way would I attempt that...

I could live without either of those accessories... (in fact, I do live w/o them).. but, if you want them, the prices aren't terrible..

    regards,

Just came back from the dealer 70 miles away.
    $21900 + tax+ doc (splashguards included)
This is the best offer I got, is that good?
  • jinvajinva Member Posts: 41
Last night the number I got from a local dealer was $22900, etc. I would have the car in my driveway now if I had gotten your price.

I will go to another dealer tonight to try to make something work. If I can't get close to $22k, I'm waiting. Tonights dealer wants almost $300 for 'administrative' fees. Ridiculous.

Same experience in DC metro area. $22.9k for 05 EX auto. I think I can do a little better, but $22k is the number I'm looking for. I don't think that's going to happen, so I'll probably end up waiting.
  • blueiedgodblueiedgod Member Posts: 2,798
Fog lights intallation is not as bad as you may think. If you know the difference between the screwdriver (not a drink) and a wrench, you can do it. I believe every single installation sheet from Honda says that a qualified mechanic should do it, even the mud guards.

So here is the kicker. Honda estimates that it will take experienced mechanic an hour to install fog lights. Let say it takes you 2-3 hours. Paying $300 installation charge means that you are paying $100/hour. Do you make more than $100/hour? If you do, then pay someone to do it, if you don't then do it your self. $100/hour translates to $208,000/year, so, if your salary is more than $200,000 a year then you can let someone do it.

I take this approach everywhere. I needed to replace windows in my house. The estimates I got from three companies were $21,000, $15,000 and $10,000. I bought the same double pane, Low E, Argon filled windows at Lowes for $1500 and installed my self. I got a brand name, Pella, windows at fraction of the cost that other guys were going to charge me for their no name windows.

You can do the same, buy an aftermarket fog light set for $30 at pepboys or autozone, buy OEM Honda fog light switch for $10 and you have your self a $40 fog light kit that is as good as OEM. With aftermarket you can wire it which ever way you want. You can have the fog come on when the engine is on, you can have the fog come on as daylight running lights, you can have fogs on when the high beams are on. With Honda fog lights, you can only have them on when the low beams are on, this limits your lighting choices.

    Good luck.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,217
You: 3 hours means you make $100/hr..

Me: After I screw up the bumper, and have to buy another one, and pay someone to install it, I've saved $1000 by letting them do it..

I'm just saying.. it isn't for everyone... ;)

The price included destination. The only additional costs were a doc fee of about $125, NJ tax (6%) and license fees.

I have had the auto mirror on my last 3 cars and think its great. My wife is going to get it on her next car this December.

Yeah, when I went to buy my EX, I wanted Redondo Red. Someone was was picking theirs up. I went up to the person I thought was buying it and he said "No, that woman is buying it. Apparently it is one of the last Red EX's on the east coast." - HUH?!?!!?

So, I told the salesman (who I had been negotiating with the day previous before going home and checking out other dealer prices) that I wanted Blue or Red (this dealer only had silver in stock) and was only willing to pay x amuont. They found a red one (which is the color I really wanted) at a dealer not even 35 miles away. They tried to charge me an extra 200 dollar delivery fee - I told them no way would I pay it, started to walk out and they suddenly didn't need the extra money....

I really felt sorry for that woman - I am sure they charged her a premium for that "last one left"...... :(

Is there any advantage to buying from dealers close by? Can servicing be performed pretty much at any Honda dealership?
  • jmcmoorejmcmoore Member Posts: 11
Thanks for the comments on the accessories -- especially BLUEIEDGOD's thoughts on aftermarket light possibilities. I had my husband dummy-proof my Civic a few years ago, with aftermarket equipment, to auto-on my headlights (as running lights) and/or throw on a buzzer if I forgot to turn off my headlights, after I drained my battery a few times. Definitely still need those dummy-proofing features!! ;-)

As for the quote: *&^%$)*&!! -- I spoke too soon. DCH Academy in Old Bridge NJ pulled their quote last night: "sorry, no 2005 CRVs left on the lot". Am I just a LITTLE pissed off?! A few people in this forum has good experiences with them, I know. But I am one UNhappy camper.

If anyone has other recommended dealerships in the NY, NJ, MA, PA, CT area -- I'm all ears. Still looking for a below-invoice deal on a 2005 CRV SE...
  • oneohthreeoneohthree Member Posts: 15
I got a car from Planet Honda Union NJ Pewter Pearl SE

    23300+ 198 (window etching security thing) + 189 (doc) + 7.5 (tire tax) + 222 (dmv)+ 1409 (tax) = 25333. I feel I paid more than I should have for it.

Fair Honda in Danbury, CT. They are the same people selling accesories on line at a great discount at http://www.fairhondapartsforyou.com

Go through the internet department and you will be all set. I bought lots of accessories from them, and even bought my last car from them as well. Honest people, stick to their word, and the best experience I ever had buying a car.

D&C Honda in Tenafly is not bad either, I have bought from them in 1999. But last time I was shopping they could not match Fair Honda's price.

I have heard good things about Mahwah Honda (or whatever is the name of the Honda dealer in Suffern NY), a Friend bought an Accord there, and liked them. I had an unfortunate experience with their service department that kind of made it sour.

Stay away from Paragon and White plains Honda, same owner, same tactics.
A friend had a very nasty experience with RT 23 Honda in Wayne, and I had a not so good experience with their service department.

I heard Rahal Honda was good, but their price are not great. Someone has to pay for Dannika Patrik's entry fees, lol..

You are a HOST now ??

Does this mean I have to be nice to you now? :confuse:

Actually, I think they made a good choice...seriously.

And your advise is excellent. You won't believe the pain I see some people put themselves through in their mad zeal to not pay any more than someone else **said** they paid.

By the time they finally realize the prices they read about in forums like this were...well..."over enthusiastic" the color choice they really wanted are long gone.

I'm glad August if finally over!

We went to pick up our new EX in the NY area yesterday. The dealer promised everything was ready since we were travelling by train from the city to Long Island. Of course when we arrived the day/night mirror was not installed so we had to wait. Then we overheard a mechanic say "there's comething wrong with the car" because the engine light was on. They got us a rental car and we left but they have our bank check. My feeling is we should not buy a car that already had a light on, and insist the dealer give us a full refund. I'm sure it will be a fight. Any advice?
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
I wouldn't worry too much. It doesn't take much to cause that light to go on. A loose gas cap is the most common cause. Still, it's a new car and I can see why you would be concerned. Can they exchange it for another CRV in stock?
  • dekoraidekorai Member Posts: 56
I would recommend folks to stay away from Paragon Honda. When I was CRV shopping, they told me the car was on the lot for a test drive. I arrived 20 minutes later and it mysteriously was 'sold' and they tried selling me their used Acuras across their parking lot. Morons....
Needless to say, I went and bought my 05 from Hillside Honda in Jamaica two days later. The Internet salesman was a great guy - the F&I guy was a jerk, and tried to pull quite a few tricks on me. Thankfully, I escaped unharmed (no rust proofing, window etching, etc). He added $550 to the bill of sale for window tinting which I caught and told him I could do elsewhere for $200.

So if anyone is in the market for a Honda, I would recommend visiting the Hillside Honda website where you can actually submit your quote for a coupla hundred below invoice and they will call you back and accept your price. Start negotiating from there!
  • red927red927 Member Posts: 118
I purchased an 05 EX in May from David Michael Honda in Freehold, NJ. Go through the internet and they will get back to you very quickly. I got a price of "invoice" and they did not try any nonsense with extra fees other than a doc fee of about $125.

    Phil
  • jinvajinva Member Posts: 41
Not many '05's left. Checked lots of inventories. Visited 3 dealers. Lots of variation in base price, accessory costs, administrative fees and sales approach. My target was $22k for an EX auto. Made the deal last night for $22,155. I did add the security system to that, but will buy & install the other accessories myself.

Good luck to all still shopping.

Just got a call from my friends at Criswell Honda in Germantown. They have received a truck load of CRVs this afternoon. My EX is one of them :) . They were quite agressive in their pricing and will waive freight if pressed. The other good deal I was offered was at Herson's in Rockville. Good luck!
  • talkativetalkative Member Posts: 1
Got an LX at Invoice + $45 (doc) + $315 (destination fee; reduced by $200 from $515)
Looks like in SF Bay, some dealers have reasonable inventory while others have exhausted their CRV stock.
  • sockpuppet1969sockpuppet1969 Member Posts: 308
I am going in to make a deal on an '05 SE this afternoon. Let me say up front that I am not good at negotiating. They do not have the color I want (white) in stock but they have one coming in about a month so this is the car I will be dealing over.

Another local dealer gave me a price on the phone of ~24,800 + tax/tags. This is about $1,000 over invoice and $400 over TMV for this area.

What do you all think is a realistic price? :confuse: I would be very happy with invoice but would probably settle for TMV.

    Please respond ASAP. Thanks!
  • blueiedgodblueiedgod Member Posts: 2,798
If you are not good at negotiations just buy it from http://www.carsdirect.com

This will also give you a good idea what that prices are for your particular location.

About them getting one in a month or so, it will probably be a 2006, not 2005. At this price, you might as well buy a 2006.
  • sockpuppet1969sockpuppet1969 Member Posts: 308
You are right, the car coming in October is an 06. She offered it to us for $500 over invoice. OTD ~ 25,900. Seems a little high, especially since there are no changes from 05 to 06 and we plan on keeping the car a long time.

I think we may try carsdirect - anyone here ever use them?
