At first we wanted to add the wheels to our LX. We found that some dealers charged so much for them that it was close to the money we'd pay for an EX. We decided against the wheels.

I checked out the installation instructions on HandA and decided which accessories I could install myself (cargo cover, splash guards, roof rack, cargo tray). Those that were too complicated for me to do (security system, tweeters) were installed by the dealer.

We found that the dealer with the best base price was the best on the accessories too. The range of prices for accessories was astounding.
  • dan bitmandan bitman Member Posts: 158
that was my gut feeling too.
Aftermarket is the answer for sure. Specially with accessories I want, they can be installed by myself.
But insurance wise ...sounds pretty decent.
    Thanks!!

Assuming someone can still find a 2005...ours are LONG gone...

Why would you not one made in the summertime????
  • dekoraidekorai Member Posts: 56
GEICO quoted me $4,400 for my CRV because I am in NYC even though the car would be with my wife in Albany and driven only weekends. I switched to my Albany address and now pay $630/year now with Metlife. So much for saving 15% or more......... psycho GEICO.

Don't even try to add a trailer towing hitch from an aftermarket source. While some aftermarket units will bolt right up, and are inexpensive, they throw the delicate balance of the CR-V way off. Have a Honda dealer install the factory hitch designed specifically for the CR-V. If you check out the installation instructions for a hitch you would be horrified in seeing how complex it is. Even a trained Honda Technician, with all the right tools and experience, will take over two and half hours to install. (They actually need to drill 3 inch holes into the unibody frame after removing the back bumper.)
I got my hitch installed by the dealer for $350 including hitch, wiring harness and labor.

Purchased yesterday for $23,960 ($100 under invoice) in Dublin, OH.

Very happy with the experience. Used FightingChance.com's information package and Fax method.

Got the 2006 LX 2WD in Blue for $19450 + Taxes + Transfer Tag Fee today including destination charges, doc fees, mud guards, pinstriping, scotchguard, first 2 oil changes, full tank, full detail (it rained this week and hadn't been detailed again) at www.reddellhonda.com in Murfreesboro, TN. Dealer went as low as $19300 on the '05 but my wife liked the '06 blue a little more than the '05 (blue/purple tint when viewed at an angle.) Dealer also wanted $195 on mud guards, after forums advice looked them up on handa website, found them for $37...told dealer take them off the truck, dealer said he'd take it off the price. Thanks for the info forum, much help !

We took delivery on a 2006 White CR-V SE today. Got it through CarsDirect. We actually made the deal for a 2005 but they were unable to get one so they gave us a 2006 at the same price. They were very nice about it and it was a pleasure doing business with them. We never even had to step foot in the dealership - they delivered the car right to our house. Here are the numbers...

    CarsDirect.com Price $ 23,971.00
    Delivery $ 150.00
    Documentation fee(s) (not gov't. fee) $ 299.70
    Taxable Total: $ 24,420.70
    3.00% Sales tax $ 732.62
    Subtotal with taxes: $ 25,153.32
    Registration (title) and license fees† $ 46.00
    FINAL PRICE $ 25,199.32

They car is awesome and they gave us the rear cargo mat and wheel locks without us ever asking. Oh, and it does not have the dreaded PTTR which I have been agonizing over ever since I started browsing the CR-V problems forum.

    :)

carsdirect.com price in my area is $24910.
What city and state are you in? 3% sales tax? I paid 8.375% for sales tax.

BTW, what is delivery for $150?
  • jinvajinva Member Posts: 41
If you are on the east coast you might find that www.fairhondapartsforyou.com is cheaper than HandA. HandA ships from the west coast, I believe, so the shipping costs add up, even though the item prices are very good. Fairhondapartsforyou charges a bit more for the items, but the shipping for any sized order is only $5.95. HandA's site is easier to use and they have the installation instructions available, which is very helpful in determining how difficult the installation would be.

The carsdirect price in my area is about the same on the '06's. We made the deal for an '05 but they were unable to get us one so they gave us the '06 for the same price.

The delivery charge was to drive the car from the selling dealership to our house 3 hours away.

    Hello
Just bought our 2006 Sahara Sand Ex (20 miles, Japanese Vin, with wheel locks)
For $24,100 From Chriswell Honda in Germantown Maryland.

That came out as Vehicle + $550 Destination = $22,771.43
    5% tax = $1138.57, Tags title etc = $190
    OTD = $22,771.43 + $1,138.57 + $190 = $24,100.00

Chriswell appears to be a brand new location? (sparkling clean)
Very nice Service, low pressure. Much better experience than after
some other local dealers near me.

(Bait and switch, we don't have that color, you'll have to pay a premium to drive one down, it will have 125 miles on it !!, you will have to eat the installed accessories etc)

We originally went to Costco and their rates were $750 over inventory
(+ whatever preps they add on)

The UBS price is very close what we got, and appears to be about $280 over Inventory We did quote a UBS price number (but it was meant for another dealer)

So we may have done a little better with some stronger hageling
But it appears we are inventory + $280
    MSRP - $1530 and Edmunds TMV - $947!

    Hope this helps

Also have been busy buying quite a few aftermarket add-ons
Husky Rubber Mats and Cargo Liner and mudguards
    Retractible Cargo cover
    Sunroof and side window deflectors
2" inch Hitch, Lock and SS step
    SS Nerf Side Bars

Looking for reasonabley priced SS Brush Guard,
wood dash overlays, Fog lights and possibly a spoiler.
(but the spoiler requires drilling and a special tool for the inserts)
Also looking for a better permanant Aux input for the stereo than the
cassette interphase (saw an Honda compat single disk MP3 but believe
it would disabled the internal 6? so IPOD etc is the way to go)

I'm splurging on the accessories as this is my retirement gift to myself.

Congrats on your new CR-V! And the retirement!
Gold lettering and gold exhaust tip looks nice too.
  • jinvajinva Member Posts: 41
Congratulations on your retirement & your new CR-V.

You haven't asked for my opinion but here it is anyway. Take some of the accessory money & get the best audio system (speakers, if not head unit too) you can buy. Again, in my opinion, the audio system is the only thing about our CR-V that I would upgrade.

    My $.02

P.S. Gold badges & exhaust tip? Hahaha. That must be sarcasm.

Just bought a 2006 CRV EX Manual for $22,200 (prices includes splash guards, door guards and wheel locks). Was this a good price?
  • jimbresjimbres Member Posts: 2,025
FWIW, I just pulled the trigger on an '06 EX w/MT for $22,095, a price that I consider to be good but not great. I began negotiations by offering $21.7K, which is just over invoice for this model, but the sales manager made it clear that he wouldn't do the deal at that price. I'm satisfied; sticks are hard to come by here on Long Island. (I'm buying the vehicle from Huntington Honda.)
  • blueboyjocksblueboyjocks Member Posts: 36
I am totally amazed with all buying prices you guys got, congrats and my hats off for you!!

I plan to get a 2006 V LX after a year thinking over the Element. My test drive last Saturday makes me confident that V is the one I'm gonna get next month. Even Element has better interior but V drives like a champ. The salesman said he can only give me $300.00 off of MSRP which is $20.095 if I can give $500 down that day, of course I didn't give him a dime. I plan to get internet quotes from 5 dealers in my area plus from carsdirect and costco. I wish it's not this complicated to buy a car or is this just the "art" of car buying? Here in Texas, Honda dealers seems to be arogan they brag about reliability etc etc, I know V sells like peanuts but I would rather let other car dealers to earn my business like Toyota or Subaru.
  • mldj98mldj98 Member Posts: 378
Bottom line....you should be able to get the CR-V at invoice or slightly above....no matter what model....shop around....send out many internet price quotes requests....you'll see!
  • blueboyjocksblueboyjocks Member Posts: 36
"...send out many internet price quotes requests....you'll see!"

Thank's for the input, I will certainly do that, but again here in Texas, it's hard to get V slightly above invoice :( . Prolly with many internet price quotes including from carsdirect and costco, will help me to get the best price. Has anyone in TX got 2006 V LX? Care to share how $$ you get it?

Test drove some '06 CRV's and saw a '05 CRV SE across the street at an Acura (affiliated) dealership with 26K miles (exact color we wanted). They had it stickered at $25,999!! I laughed and told them I could get a brand new '06 across the street w/zero miles for less. Eventually they went down to $20,600....I did not pull the trigger b/c I am not completely ready to buy...I told the guy that I would buy only if I was offered a great deal that I couldn't refuse. Should I have taken it? Or am I better off paying a few thousand more for brand new.

Also was told at the Honda dealership that there may be some good incentives coming for the holiday season around thanksgiving..."Honda said they are going to get aggressive around thanksgiving w/incentives" How much teeth might be to this incentive? What might we be able to expect from Honda in incentives?

    Thanks,
    Brandon
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
... I can't say how aggressive Honda might be with the CRV's .. but they've never had any incentives on the CRV's because they kinda sell themselves, so I wouldn't be holding my breath ...

As far as the $20,600 for an SE with 26k .. thats a pretty cheap price -except- for those big big miles .. it's only been on the road for 12/15 months, so it would make me wonder without the Carfax and a pro looking at it .. now if it had 5/7/9k it would be a steal .... you probably need to be lookin' on the new side ..

Honda usually offers low interest rates, but you have to have perfect credit to qualify. If you FICO is bellow 700, and your income/expenses ratio is not good, might as well forget about it. These are public offers.

Honda also offers dealer cash, if a dealership sells let's say 100 vehicles in a given time period they get up to $1000 per vehicle. Some dealers, rather make the numbers with easy sales and will deal BELLOW invoice to get that cash. A good indicator what dealer cash is, www.carsdirect.com
  • barbecuesauce9barbecuesauce9 Member Posts: 67
    Here is a good example.
One dealer emailed me saying"I just received a 2006 Honda CRV SE in Sahara sand.I can sell you this car for $25,477.00 including freight. Please contact me so we can put a deal together.I look forward to hearing from you."

So I forwarded the lowest quote from the another dealer and he emailed me back saying "If you will take the beige one I have in stock I will match the price you received from ***** of $23,599.00 plus freight, tags and tax.I lokk forward to hearing from you."

$1328 difference in less than an hour with two emails.

Most dealer is willing to beat or match the price so like others said get as many quotes you can get.
  • barbecuesauce9barbecuesauce9 Member Posts: 67
are you looking for LX,EX or SE? or new or used?
According to this forum, people are paying invoice plus $100 for SE which is about $24160.CR-V bumper to bumper warranty expires 36K unless you purchase Honca Care at the additional cost.(FYI,Honda Certified Used Cars come with a 7-year/100,000-mile)
  • kosarfankosarfan Member Posts: 11
We were looking at the EX - New - but my wife fell in love w/the used SE. So I guess now we will be looking for an SE new. We really liked the sales guy at the Honda dealership...but I care more about dollars and cents. Can I just tell the guy I will only pay $24,160 and expect to get the deal? Or do I need to go through the email process?
  • barbecuesauce9barbecuesauce9 Member Posts: 67
I don't think you can just get $24160 by saying I will only pay $24160 for it. However it won't hurt you to ask him to take your offer.
If he refuses, get many internet quotes as you can and have him match it. Make sure you have car price including the destination,DMV fee, sales tax(if any) and DOC fee when you get price quote.Ask them there is any other fee before you make a deal.

I know all dealers play game, but they should know not everyone is stupid like they think. When I'm ready, I will do my business totally through the internet and I will not go to the dealer until the car is ready and go there to sign the paper. ;)

Hey yall, I'm new at this and kept hitting return by accident, and it submitted 2 incomplete messages! What a terrible way to get started here, so sorry! I was hoping for some helpful opinons...I am looking for a new vehicle, and have been leaning towards the CRV, can't beat what you get for the price in my opinion! I have been looking for a 2005 or 2006 4 wheel drive EX model, but wouldn't mind bumping up to the SE for the right deal. I have been getting offers of $22,990 for 2006 EX, which is OK i guess. Just now I got an offer of Invoice for ANY 2006 and $400 below Invoice for ANY 2005. Which would make a 2005 SE $22,900...seems like a great deal, am I right?? I'm so new at car buying, any help would be great:)
  • me3me3 Member Posts: 30
IMO those would be good prices! Watch out for the "Add Ons" that the dealer will likely try to do to recuperate their profits. Reasonable would be the destination fee, tax, title, license, and a slight ($50-$100) dealer processing fee. No more. No to window etching. No to paint protection. No to fabric protection. No to pin striping. No to...

Extended warranty (if you want one) should be @ $1000 (+/- $200 depending on where you are located/buying) for 84 month, 100K miles, $0 deductible.
  • babeautobabeauto Member Posts: 10
thanks for your input, that's just the kind of info I am looking for, it's hard to think of everything yourself! Do many people get the extended warranty with hondas?? Do you really need it??
  • barbecuesauce9barbecuesauce9 Member Posts: 67
$22900 for 05 SE is not included the destination charge which is another $550. 2006 SE invoice is $24060 so there is only about $600 difference.
Only difference between EX and SE is heated mirror/seat(which I like most),hard spare cover,body-colored bumpers, leather seat and unique color-pewter. That's it. and there is about $2000 difference in price.
So you need to make your mind on EX and SE.
If you can get invoice price for 2006, go for 06. Pretty good deal if you can get invoice price now.
You need to make sure that you get the car price including the destination, sales tax,DMV fee and DOC fee. Make sure there is no surprise fee at pick up. Like Mr.me3 said,if there is something else, just walk away.

If you decide to get the extended warranty, make sure it is HONDA CARE from honda. and be sure to compare price at www.curryhondacare.com www.collegehillshonda.com www.hondawarrantyinfo.com
  • babeautobabeauto Member Posts: 10
Are you saying that the price I get should be the same as invoice, but include all of those other fees?? The prices I have gotten so far are 400 below invoice for any 05, invoice for any 06, pluss the tax, tag, DMV, DOC etc...And another dealer just told me he would beat whatever that deal added up to by 200...i found invoice on 06 SE to be 23510, EX 21900 and the 05 SE 22,900 and EX 21500...while the SE features are nice onces, they aren't necessities, but if the price difference was small, i could go for it...would a 2006 EX be better than a 2005 SE?? hmm....
  • babeautobabeauto Member Posts: 10
can i make a much better deal if i am able to pay for the car outright without financing??
  • barbecuesauce9barbecuesauce9 Member Posts: 67
would a 2006 EX be better than a 2005 SE??
NO.SE is better than EX. There is no difference between 05 and 06 except the price and powertrain warranty. Starting 06,powertrain warranty comes with 5 years or 60 months.
Like I said, you need to make your mind on EX or SE and go for 06 since there is only $400-$600 price difference.
I meant you need to get all those extra fee when you get price quote and if they add on something you did not want, just walk away.

The dealer makes more money if you finance through the dealer since they can charge you a bank fee and can play with interest rate. There is no special low interest from honda financial services now so pay cash or finance through direct lender or your bank/credit union and pay them as cash.

What is good/fair price to pay for a 2005 in SE Florida. I know that holdback is 3%. MSRP is 20195. Invoice is 18658. How can one gauge dealer incentives or is that not possible? Has anyone bought in SE lately and where/what dealership? I have tried internet sales and ave asked for a itemized quote --out the door cost to me, but only receiving MSRP. One internet sales dealer did quote back $18868 + tax + $479 dealers fee. He did not mention the destination charge. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the input, to those of you who gave some. Now, the problem is, I don't think I'm gonna go with the CRV at all. I went and drove one, and while it was nice, I surely didn't get super excited over it, and the fact that the sunroof is not power really kinda bugs me. I mean, what is the point of having a glass panel in your roof! Anyway, I started out thinking I would prefer a wagon, and now I'm starting to feel that way again. I really like a Subaru outback...maybe even a legacy. Guess I'm on the wrong board now though, but any opinions would be great!!
  • jimbresjimbres Member Posts: 2,025
and the fact that the sunroof is not power really kinda bugs me

Of course it's powered! Why do you think that it isn't?
  • barbecuesauce9barbecuesauce9 Member Posts: 67
I think it says Power moonroof with tilt feature which means POWER!!
If you lose the battery, you can close it manually with the wrench- It comes with the tire jack,no extra charge.

I guess you have not testdrived any of them. Testdrive CR-V and subaru. You will be the one who will be driving next few years.
  • stevedebistevedebi Member Posts: 4,098
"Guess I'm on the wrong board now though, but any opinions would be great!!"

Drive both back to back. When you go to the Honda, look to the left of the steering wheel at the power roof controls.

Anyway, one thing you might want to note on the CR-V is that the rear legroom is really good - lots of room back there. Also the rear seats recline and move forwards and backwards - good for additional cargo space.

I shopped both Subie and Honda in 2003, both are good vehicles. Take the one that drives the best for you and meets your needs. Good luck.
