I'm in upstate NY, and just took delivery of my 2006 LX, AWD, autotrans.

No dealers were coming down from the from the MSR of $21,595.

    Added to that $550 D&H charge = 22,145

Add to that all the other federal & state charges,

    it came to $24,035.10

I got the dealer to throw in the rubber floor and cargo mats, and front mud guards. And he gave me $300 for my 1995 Plymouth Voyager, with 165,000 miles on it, and a great thirst for antifreeze.

All in all, I am pleased with the car!! :D

New 2005 CRV LX, 2WD (basic).
N Michigan dealer has it in the lot for 3 months.
Does not want to negotiate below $19150 ( $550 D&H included), before Tax+Title+Doc fee.
Said price is $500 below invoice already.
Seams after 3 mo. there’re no customers in a hurry to buy it ( except me :) but dealer is not in a hurry to sale it neither.
This car will soon be 1 year old.
Shall I hope for a dealer discount below current, by Thxgiving w-end…or X-mas??
    Thanks for advice,
    Dan

Not true. Invoice is $19,173 (including Dest.), so that price is only $23 below invoice. I got mine for $150 below invoice in March, so you should expect a much better deal.

Walk into dealer on Wednesday, Nov. 30, and make an offer of $1000 below invoice, and negotiate from there.

Last day of the month is always best time to deal, when saleman is closing out his month.

    Good afternoon,
I had a great 2000CRV which recently was tainted in a 3 alarm garage fire. Although my insurance company has not been able to gain access to the building as of yet, my gut feeling is to start looking for another CRV. I have my eyes on the 2006 EX with automatic trans and AWD on all 4 wheels. The Honda dealer I serviced my car with suggests leasing vs buying. She thinks I can get a monthly lease rate of $350.00 or less based on a 12000 mile/year 36 month lease. There would be an initial down payment Of approx $2700.00 which would consist of taxes, 1st month fee, $995.00 bank fee and the usual tags etc. I have always bought my cars however as the CRV's get better and better, it might be nice to be able to get a new one every 3 years. Would anybody have experience with buying vs leasing Honda CRV's?
    Thanx

I haven't leased a CR-V, but I did lease my last car, and I ended up hating it (the lease, not the car). I felt like I had to worry about every scratch and everything that happened to it, and of course you have to make payments forever, instead of someday owning a car.

You can always buy a new CR-V, pay it off in three years, sell it yourself, and buy a new one.

Leases on CR-Vs are not all that great... but, they should be, considering how well they hold their value..

In most cases, I think you are better off financing a new CR-V...

I think Leasing a car with very high resale value, like a Honda is a waste of time. You will be better off financing it for 60 months and then selling at at 36 months. You will almost always end up on top this way, rather than leasing. With leasing, whatever you would have made on the deal goes to the leasing company, because they HAVE to make money.

Here is my deal, I bought a 2005 CR-V EX 5 MAN for $20,500, financed at 2.9% ARP for 60 months, my payments are $365/month. I am only $15 more than the lease they offered you, but I had no out of pocket expenses except for $1500 or so in taxes (8.25% rate).

Lease: $350*36+$2700=$15,300 nothing to show for in 36 months
Finance: $365*36+$1500=$14,640 + the car + the resale. A 3 year old CR-V 5 MAN with 36,000 miles is $15,800 - $16,700 (trade-in to private party) and $18,200 for certified (add $450 for AUTO). According to my amortization table, by month 36 I only owe $8557. So, $15,800-$8557=$7,243 in my pocket, if I sell the car. Do you want to give the leasing company $7000? I will take it if you want to just give it away.

I couldn't have said it better, Blue Eyes. (Nice summation!) Buying is the way to go on a CRV. :shades:

I just saw some earlier posts abt Japan/UK made CRVs in this forum from that what I understood is that VIN starting with SHRD... is UK made. I have reserved sterday (delivery on friday) a 2006 CRV EX and got a VIN starting with SHRD... but I did notice in the vehicle that it said vehicle is a Japan made (75% or so). Then what is that? Did I buy a UK made vehicle? Is it Bad? Please tell your opinions...

    Thank You all

    Well said.

BTW, you paid $1,000 below invoice? Wow, congrats!

When would leasing make sense? That 2006 GLI is looking nicer and nicer, so I was thinking that maybe with a lease...

If I remember correctly, you bought yours about the same time (last week of March). Honda had dealer cash at the time, so I actually overpaid by $500. But that was fine with me. 2.9% APR was just the icing on the cake.

Why do you want a VW? Leasing domestics, Korean and some European brands (when the incentives are right) is a good idea. There was a deal on BMW 325 a couple years back, no money down, $299/month for 36 months. That was a good lease. Usually leases are more expensive than financed purchase, because dealers can hide more money in the lease with the fancy wording. I almost leased an Accord once, but the dealer was not flexible. For some odd reason he stated that he could not negotiate cap cost on a lease. He kept on saying that for the lease to work Cap cost has to be MSRP. I told him "Good bye". I calculated that I could get Accord EX (4 cyl, 5 MAN) for the advertized featured lease price on the Accord LX (4 cyl, Auto).

    CRV LX 4WD

Just walked in a received a quote of $20,510. I did a double take to be sure I heard right. Said that I was going to go check out the Rav 4 Salesman laughed and said I would be back.
2005 RAV 4 4WD basic was quoted as $21,500. Guess the salesman was doing his homework!

Should I go back...or do you think I can do better?

This was in central New Jersey

    what does the $20,510 include?
  • barbecuesauce9barbecuesauce9 Member Posts: 67
Target price should be below the invoice price. People appear to pay +/- $100 over invoice according this forums.
Invoice is $24060 so you need to get a lot of price quote.
Maybe there is special interest rate from honda financial service in spring. But Who knows?
so financing with lower rate is not an option,go for it now before it snows
  • vermontspandavermontspanda Member Posts: 1
Just received a quote of $24,561 for an 06 SE. TTL is $149, no other fees per the dealer at Honda of Keene.

Had 5.6%/60 mos financing pre-approved through Bank of America-- the dealer negotiated their own deal with B of A and told me they could give me 5.34% for 60 mos.

Think I'm going to go with this -- will pick up on Friday.

Getting a 2006 EX Automatic with "All Season Package"? Not sure where they came up with "All Season Package"? This package includes All season mats, Cargo Tray, and Splash Guards for $300.00? Anyone bought 05/06 CR-V with "All Season Package"? I could not find anything about this package online. BTW, getting the 06 EX for invoice ($22,492.00 including destination)
  • barbecuesauce9barbecuesauce9 Member Posts: 67
Looks like your dealer just names them.Never heard of all season package.www.handaaccessories.com sells cargo tray $75.60 All Season Floor Mats $94.80 Splash Guards $37.20 plus shipping and handling and sales tax if you are in CA.
I don't have honda's all season floor mats but just bought weathertech's liner. It is pretty nice and no gap between carpet and liner except the hold in the middle.
Splash guard was installed less than 4 minutes by myself.
Don't forget to buy wheel lock!

I've gotten some great quotes on CR-Vs from the internet managers at Wilde Honda in Waukesha, WI. I wouldn't be surprised if that is where ppol got theirs. Just a guess though. Try wildehonda.com and you can get a quote via email very quickly.

Do we really need Wheel Locks? I never owned a car with wheel lock ... so I'm not sure how important it is ... Help! One other thing I am interested in is Moon Roof Visor ... Any suggestion on that?
  • barbecuesauce9barbecuesauce9 Member Posts: 67
Do we really need Wheel Locks?
    That depends on your neighborhood.
I installed them just for a piece of mind since the spare is outside.
I don't have moonroof visor and have not had a chance to open the sunroof cuz it is too cold now.
Check and see you can install them by yourself.

www.weathertech.com has the moonroof visor also.

    Will buy an '06 CR-V LX 4WD - AUTOMATIC.

Honda website lists the following for MSRP's:

    21,595....... base
    550......... dest chg
    63 ..........splashguards
    189 .........cargo area cover
    139 .........drivers side armrest/compartment

    22536................ total
    ==========================================

What's the best deal that one can honestly expect the dealership to sell me this vehicle ?

What are the approximate percentage 'mark-ups' for the base... and then also for each option ?

Is there a tool anywhere on the web that would have these percentages for this specific CR-V ?

Of the BS fees (proccessing fee; convience fees; document fees...etc...)what would be a fair amount to have to pay ?

    No trade involved.

Any other tips, suggestions, & help is certainly welcome !!!

I thank you, in advance, for your help !!!

(I posed this question on the CR-V area of the website...this area's readers/posters should be a bit sharper....)
  • barbecuesauce9barbecuesauce9 Member Posts: 67
You need to go check www.carsdirect.com to see your area price.Your quote including the destination is $1641 more than invoice. According this forum, people seem to pay +/- $100 over invoice. LX 4WD invoice is $20504 including the destination. You may want to shop around more.Go to www.hondacars.com and get some more quote.

For accessories, visit www.handaaccessories.com to see the price and installation instructions. Mud guard, cargo liner and wheel locks etc can be installed by yourself.

After done with the car price, you need to ask them out the door price. They are usually -car price including the destination charge + sales tax + DMV fee + DOC fee and any other fee required. so make sure you get out the door price so you won't be surprised at pick up.

In our area, there have been a rash of wheels being stolen including from our lot which is in an upscale area.

I find moonroof visors to detract from the looks of the car but that's me!

Just received a quote of $21,700 for an 06 CR-V 5-speed manual transmission. The price includes tinted window and pin striping (the last one is a rip off for sure). Considering that there are under 10 EX manuals in the whole state of Texas, near invoice is pretty good, right? I live in Austin, but having to go to Dallas to pick it up since none of the Austin dealerships could even come close. The "drive out" is $23,300. Does that sound reasonable? Thank you.
  • barbecuesauce9barbecuesauce9 Member Posts: 67
Invoice is $21661 so your price is not bad. EX and SE come with REAR tinted window. Your dealer says front tinted window? what is pin striping?
Heard it is so hard to find a manual or get a good deal.
Did you ask your Austin dealer to match Dallas dealer's quote? If they have them in stock, they might match it.
  • fumblruskifumblruski Member Posts: 5
Yeah, I asked the Austin dealers to match the Dallas quote, but none of them could get even in that range ($1000 off). They gave me the song and dance about not being able to compete with a "high" volume dealers in Dallas/Houston. Well, Austin is the most expensive city in Texas, so that explains it. What makes the CR-V manual transmission market inelastic is the fact that there's only ONE car on a lot in Austin, and under 10 in the state of Texas right now.
  • barbecuesauce9barbecuesauce9 Member Posts: 67
Looks like you do not have many choice. Go get it before it is too late then.
Be sure that is included destination charge and ask them first any other surprise fee at pick up.
    BTW what is pin stripping?
  • jimbresjimbres Member Posts: 2,025
That's an excellent price, & I wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger. This model (the EX w/stick) is in short supply almost everywhere. FWIW, I live in a NYC suburb & I paid $22,095 (including shipping charge) for an '06 EX MT. Wasn't thrilled with that price, but I had already sold my old car & couldn't wait much longer.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
That 5 speed is hard to find for one very important reason...few people want them and the dealers don't order very many. a lot of small stores don't order any because for every five speed they order, there is a fast selling automatic they can't order.

And cars that are largely unpopular as new cars are very poor sellers later when you want to move on to another car.
  • jimbresjimbres Member Posts: 2,025
I agree with your 1st point but take issue with your 2nd. While you might take it in the shorts if you trade in a car with a stick, you can do quite well if you sell the car on your own. For example, I sold a 12-year-old 5-speed Accord in 1 day at my asking price. You don't need to hear it from me, isell, that Hondas, no matter how they're equipped, hold their value & sell quickly.

In any case, we keep our cars for a minimum of 8 years. As I'm sure you know, once a car has passed the 5 year mark, condition & mileage matter more than color & options. That's certainly been my experience.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
You are correct. If you keep your cars that long, it won't matter much.

Yes, Hondas do hold their value and sell quickly. Just know that 5 speed will eliminate probably nine out of ten potential buyers.
  • fumblruskifumblruski Member Posts: 5
Pin striping is that painted stripe that goes along the side of the car. Most cars have it. The catch is, dealers charge like $200+ for "pin striping", which is their way of recuperating some profit. Of course, then they can charge you $200 for some other bogus add on. When the new fleet comes in the cars don't have it on, so you have an option to decline that. But they usually slap it on in the next couple of days. What a joke. Want "pin striping" , go to Walgreens and buy some stickers for $2.99.
  • ethorpethorp Member Posts: 1
First-time new car buyer here, probably naive. After some exploratory test drives I've decided to go with an 06 CR-V EX. I live in Seattle. No trade-in. A couple of questions about $$:

    1. Per cars.com (edmunds.com doesn't seem to know there are options on an EX), invoice is $21,112, +550 "destination" charge and 830 for automatic = $22,492. Based on this what is the likely lowest price they'd accept and what is the highest I should accept?

    2. I know people who claim to have offered the dealer one price (not sure how much over/under invoice) and refused to haggle at all, simply walking out when the salesperson wouldn't agree; they say the salesperson chased them into the parking lot and accepted the offer. Is this plausible? I hate the thought of haggling and would love it if I could just set a fair price and get a car.

    Thanks in advance,
    e.
  • barbecuesauce9barbecuesauce9 Member Posts: 67
    1.$22492 - +/- $100
2.Unless they still had 05 left and it was last day of month.

Easy way is get quote over the web.Go to hondacars.com and request price quote as many as you can. Have your local dealer match the lowest quote or buy one from the dealer gave you lowest quote. This way no-hassle or no game(they will still play game no matter what though).
  • fumblruskifumblruski Member Posts: 5
As I've posted earlier I was offered a $23,300 drive out on a 2006 Cr-V EX with manual transmission. Given that it's about $100 lower than anyone else in Texas offered (it's easy -- only 12 manual transmissions are on the lots in Texas right now). So I flew to Dallas from Austin and got the car. Included in that price ($21,710 + TTL) were pinstriping, cargo mat, tinted windows, wheel locks, and mud flaps. This particular dealership is the largest volume dealer in Texas (Lute Riley Honda), and (according to the manager) I happened to catch them when they have to move out 1.5 times as many cars this month then any other time. People were pretty nice as well, and did not try to pimp out any extra stuff once I got there (which would have been easy given the fact that I flew and pretty much HAD to get a car).
  • fumblruskifumblruski Member Posts: 5
Oops... I meant to say that that dealer's price was about $1100 lower than anywhere else in Texas on a manual transmission. :)

Except that there is a whole bunch of people who are looking for a used 5 spd CR-V out there. Check out the other board. Thank god not all Americans are lazy.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
Funny...when we have a used 5 speed sitting on our lot, we don't seem to have a "whole bunch" of people looking for them. They do have a few fans, but not very many.

Of course, where you live matters too. In Seattle, we have LOTS of traffic and lots of hills.

I don't think laziness has anything to do with it.

Don't seem to be too many Canadian datapoints on this forum (though I've only been visiting for a little while), so I thought I'd add my own.

    2003 CR-V LX
    5 speed
    37,800 km (~23,625 mi)
    Bumper-to-bumper warranty until mid-Jan 2006

Were asking CAD$24,900, bargained down to $23,300 including cost of rear window tint. Probably could've gone a bit lower but I feel like I did pretty well for a first-time buyer.

I pick up the car tomorrow, still debating about the extended warranty. They're asking CAD$755 for 5yr/100,000km.

I've heard that there is usually a big markup on the warranties, but I'm not sure how much, especially in Canada, as there appears to be little available data. Any suggestions?

I'm looking at several 2005 CR-V EX automatic right now, hoping to buy one within the next week. I'm going to the dealer with no trade-in and a check ready to buy, but debating the 05 vx 06 models. From reading this forum, I think I can easily get an 06 EX at invoice all day long, probably better than that on Dec 31st. But I haven't seen too many postings about deals on leftover 05's. I had a dealer tell me over the phone yesterday $22k out the door (not including taxes), but I'm thinking $20k-20.5k....does this sound legit?

Given the 05's are already a year old, and I'll be missing out on the 5 year/50k powertrain warranty, invoice pricing doesn't seem like enough at this time of the year...

    Any comments?
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... The warranty starts the day the dealer punches the card and you take delivery .... nothing lost here.
