Congrtas for ur new Cr-V. Hey just wanted to check, do you have any feedback for 2WD drive. How does it fare on the raod, I am undecided b/w 2WD and AWD

I have not driven AWD 2007 CRV. But 2WD is good and comfortable for our family needs. It is great!

I have a question for more experienced or repeat new car buyers. I sent out internet quotes through Edmunds. I received a couple of quotes. The sales guy at one of the larger dealerships is agressive and just wont budge on the sale price. Is it OK to deal with another sales person at the same dealership? If so how do I go about it? Would the other sales person agree to deal or will I be treated as some one with Ebola!

At another dealership I got a quote, and later met the salesperson and told him a out the door quote above $28k for an EX-L AWD is not competitive, and to please send me his most competitive quote. He never sent one. Can I contact a different sales person there?

I am told that internet inquiries from carsdirect etc go to sales people who pay a fee to receive that. Is that true? If so that may not be competitive because the sales person who is most competitive may not be a subscriber to that service.

    thanks!

Do you actually have the CRV w/navi in your possession? I have yet to see one delivered with the optional factory navigation system. Please advise if you already took delivery of this vehicle. Thanks.
  • carfreak8carfreak8 Member Posts: 58
Navigation systems are in dealers. I have had my EX-L 4WD w/navigation for ~2 weeks. It has been awesome. The system is the same as the Civic navigation. My dealer has a few in stock currently. The systems make the car look 10 times better. I was the first person at my dealership to get a navigation model (and probably my whole area). I had to stop at my dealer to drop something off on saturday, and the nav models all had sold signs on them.

    Hi All,
I just bought my new CRV 2007 LX 2WD (Tango Red pearl) from one of the SF Bay area dealers. The out of door price is $20905 (Which include destination, Taxes and Title etc..). Its really exiting for me to drive my first SUV. Personally I love Tango Red perl CRV with Gray interior. I have already drove 400 plus miles on it. I am getting very good mileage on City itself (23.5 MPG). If any body interested please let me know I will help them to get some good deal with my dealer.

I am also planning to buy Accessories Mud flab and Cargo Mat. Please suggest me how can i get these accessories for better price?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

    Regards
    Ram

Just wanted to follow up to an e-mail I posted last week about not getting a fair quote. Well, I finally feel good with what I ended up getting. I ended up paying $24,500+TTL for a total of close to $26k minus my trade-in, which I finally got what I wanted for it (Mazda 6) for a total of $24,440 total. Not bad. My payments went up some, but mostly because I had 0% on my Mazda and 6.3% on this vehicle for finance rates.

My Honda CRV-EXL is the tea green mist with ivory interior. I have had numerous compliments on it already. It drives very nicely and I love having a car that is higher off the ground. Also, my two year old son fits so much more comfortably! So far, I am loving it! :)

    Ashleyklam,
Congrats! I bet the baby likes it also from the back seat!!
Yours is, I think, a 2WD? Finally got a better quote today for 25K even for 07 EX-L AWD. Reading today that they will soon begin production in OH, maybe I'd better move on this one. I like the tea green as well, altho the black is very sharp. I figured I'd try to call a few other dealers and see what they offer.

Sounds like you got a good deal, here in San Antonio the LX goes for $20,600 plus TT&L

Ram, I would love to talk! We are in the Bay Area and looking for a 2WD LX. Do you want to share your dealers contact info?

    Thanks!

Congrats on the new ride! Which dealership did you purchase from?

On accessories - check out http://www.handa-accessories.com/ I bought all my Honda gear there - great prices and service.

If your not getting competitive bids on a CRV why not head over to the acura dealerships. The RDX is basically a high end CRV made by honda. If you check the RDX posts people are getting them for around invoice and if nothing else it one more bargaining chip at the honda dealership. If you go into the dealership and they know that you are serious about buying they won't want you to go to any place else.
  • newcrvownernewcrvowner Member Posts: 2
Yes - I have the car - they had to get it from another dealership but I do have it and I love it!

    Hi Bubbly,
I bought it in Hopkins Honda, Fair field. I think You might not get for this price right now. Sales person told me that now they can't offer it for my price.

    Thanks

Thanks! I really liked the black too, but my previous car was black and I had a tough time keeping it clean. Black cars are beautiful when they are clean! At first I wasn't sure about the tea green and almost decided on silver. However, the green quickly grew on me.

Mine is a 2WD, but that is great that you are getting such good quotes on the 4WD. I would go with that if you can get it for $25k. The dealership did say that production will be starting soon in the US. I definitely could have waited to get the CRV, but as soon as my husband drove it, he told me he thought it was a good decision, so off we drove!!!! He is now jealous of my car :P

Paid $300 over invoice blck on blck EX 4WD. Came with wheel locks and mud flaps without additional charge. Had only 11 miles. Bought it in Los Angeles area.

Looking for a similar deal. I'm in LA as well. Could you give a little more info on which dealer and how you got this deal?

    Thanks!!
  • nearmspnearmsp Member Posts: 90
    Thanks Phisher.
I think I will do the test drive of the RDX and see if I like it. It does not make sense to buy a CR-V when there is a shortage and that too at little or no discount. The price will drop in 3 months when US production comes on stream.
  • ccacpccacp Member Posts: 117
When will US production come on board ?
  • phisherphisher Member Posts: 175
I've heard conflicting dates the latest is in March of 07 but also as early as Jan.
  • nearmspnearmsp Member Posts: 90
The first batch of 60 rolled out in September from their Ohio Plant If you go to the Honda web page and click on news and then CR-V, you will see their press release regarding production in the US. I am pasting below the web link, but I don't know if the forum allows web links. Anyway here it is:

    http://automobiles.honda.com/info/news/article.asp?ArticleID=2006092647979

Dealers expect US production ramping up by March. This information is not corroborated though.
  • ccacpccacp Member Posts: 117
US production has begun in September and is being sold in Canada. I guess they want to make sure quality is the best before they start sending them to the US.

So, US production has started, but the US has not seen those CRVs yet.

I paid $21750 to 2007 EX 2WD on 12/14/2006. This had Roof Rack $289 and Wheel Locks $54 already on. Other cost such as tax and tag not included. It was little bit over Kelly's invoice price. How did I do?
By the way Dealer is "Honda of Covington W.V."
  • rocuriumrocurium Member Posts: 12
i paid $ 24,342 (not including destination charge, 5% state tax, tag) for 2007 EX-L AWD, due to arrive between 12/21 to 12/26. total is 26692. wheel lock is $ 71 (i think i will get it). location is maryland. the VIN indicates this car is from japan. what do people think about this price?
  • sizzerhappysizzerhappy Member Posts: 7
I live in Maryland, what dealership did you buy from. That sounds like an awesome deal.

How was your experience with Honda North? I'm actually looking to get a CR-V EX 4WD too and have been emailing a few dealerships in the Boston area to get a feel for prices. Did you negotiate with any other dealerships besides Honda North?
  • nearmspnearmsp Member Posts: 90
    Wow great deal!
EX-L AWD - invoice ($24,042) plus destination ($595) less dealer hold back ($780) works out to $23857. So you paid just over $485 over "net" invoice! Excellent job. This indicates there are other "bonuses" that will come to the dealership for total sales.

What strategy did you do to get this deal? Did you fax letters, e-mail, negotiate at dealership or just call?

I have noticed that the internet queries are waste of time. The junior most person (intern) is made the internet "manager" and they have little or no negotiating power. Half don't bother to even provide an e-mail quote.

Honda needs to really work on their dealerships!
  • chief71chief71 Member Posts: 12

Dude...the low end invoice for a bare bones RDX is over 30K

Re: #3957 - bigpapi: are e-mail quotes similar to Boston Globe print ads?
  • nearmspnearmsp Member Posts: 90
Actually I looked at the RDX closely. But the fuel consumption is horrible! With an engine size smaller then the CR-V (but turbocharged) Rdx is a gas guzzler.
  • rocuriumrocurium Member Posts: 12
i did internet quote inquiry of all the maryland dealers and two dealers offered me the lowest price. i contacted both of them, was able to cut the price down by couple hundreds (less than $ 300). i did not have much time and this is my first time shopping for a car. i will use internet inquiry next time. i should have been more aggressive with the price negiotation.

the dealer is heritage honda of parkville. i hope the car will arrive on time. please PM me so i can provide the name of the sales agent. hope this helps.
  • phisherphisher Member Posts: 175
Ya but if you follow his thread back you will see he was getting the quotes for an EX-L at over 28000 so it's really not that big a jump. Also it never hurts to look at something else, a dealership will do everything they can to keep you from leaving if they know that your buying a car in the next week or so. Its just one more bargaining chip to use on a vehicle that isn't in as high a demand as a CRV.
  • nearmspnearmsp Member Posts: 90
One of the posters had mentioned about reading the fighting chance report and a book titled "Car Buyer's and Leaser's Negotiating Bible" - Third Edition. I bought both of these items and now am planning my "fax attack" next week!

I will update my best deal (and dealership) when I have something to report.

Regarding dealers, I did note that Toyota and Subaru dealerships were really keen to sell. But Honda dealers are just not keen to sell! Half of them don't even respond for requests for quotes. The manager at the bloomington, MN dealership sort of looked down at us - when on his asking what our "budget" was I replied an LX. He was condescending, and he said I am "the" manager, I will have one of my men talk to you. I e-mailed the sales guy who took us for a test ride, thanking him and asking for a quote for an EX-L. He never replied to my e-mail at all. They had a few EX-Ls in stock then.

With such an attitude, these guys would be out of a job if they were to sell Ford or GM vehicles under current market conditions.
  • bigpapibigpapi Member Posts: 10
I haven't checked the Boston Globe print ads, but I imagine that they're probably similar numbers. The advantage to getting the quotes is that you can get the number down through email without having to visit each dealership.
  • phisherphisher Member Posts: 175
The fax idea doesn't work as good as going to the dealership. If you do a bunch of faxes on a car in high demand the sales people will not be willing to give you a good deal because they know that game. The only way It's worked for me is when I e-mailed wilde honda down buy Millwaukie. I was going to drive to Chicago and didn't want to waste time at a dealership. They gave me a good price but the twin cities dealership beat that price buy about $400 when I gave them an idea of the quotes I had gotten.

Hello all. We are in the Orlando, FL area and are currently looking to buy a 2007 CR-V LX 2WD.

In researching, I’ve found several sources that are pretty adamant about offering no more than the following when purchasing a new vehicle:

Dealer cost (invoice) + destination charge – holdbacks * 5%.

All replies for online quote requests from the local dealers have led me to believe that they won’t part with anything under MSRP, stating that the car is in such high demand. Is this true? If so, should I bother showing up at the dealership to attempt to negotiate? Or should we wait a few months and test the market then?

Would anyone in the central Florida area (we are willing to drive a bit) be able to confirm and possibly offer advice as to a dealer whom they purchased from (positive experience)? Any and all suggestions/help are appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.
  • nearmspnearmsp Member Posts: 90
Interesting, that they do know the fax attack strategy! I did not think of that.

Actually I did contact Gentile Honda in Kenosha and they gave me a quote for CRV EX-L $25,437 for a demo vehicle with 3000 miles on it. I said no thank you. The s.t. in WI is 5.9, IL is over 9%, with MN 6.5%.
  • mimiatamimiata Member Posts: 8
I just received 3 internet quotes from dealers in my area. The best was that someone was willing to GIVE ME was the MSRP. - forget taking anything off!
Plus, here in the Southwest Florida I have to pay the dealer $389 in doc fees for the pleasure of doing business with him. That is the lowest of the doc fees in my area.
I have no problem going out-of-state to buy a car, but I do not know how to do this using the internet.
Can someone suggest a site where I can find more dealers than those in my area.
I tried one site and I received a "far away" message saying that since I am not in their marketing area, I am just fishing for a price to negotiate with, and they kindly refused to deal with me.
Thanks for anything that you can do.

On both hondas I bought in the past year and half I have gotten much better response going in with all the info I have including edmunds print outs and sat down and talked to the sales person. Once they know that you've done your home work and aren't buying on emotion they take notice. Let them know what price you are willing to pay and that you are ready to buy today. If they try to get you to inch up don't. If they can't agree to the price thank them and go to the next dealership. The dealerships are under pressure to make month end and year end quotas so next week might be the best time to buy. Good Luck :)

Been following the discussions and find information here is useful. To aid in others in finding current market price this is our story:
LX AWD no options - tango red paid $20,888 incl dest. but not TTL

Last weekend when in Vermont we got a free copy of the local paper when food shopping and a Honda dealers flyer was inserted for the weekend. There it was an LX for $20888, I call and find out it was one of the two colors we decided upon and the dealership was in New Hampshire. After a 2 1/2 drive we test drove and decided to pull the trigger. But - we didn't have our checkbook - wanted to deposit with credit card - dealer didn't accept that. Strange. Will hold for us. We left with that uneasy feeling that with no contract it could be sold out from us. Anyway, after arranging for insurance and getting monies transferred we hasten back yesterday and traded our '01 Tribute with cash for LX. Deal was easy with no pressure and gimmicks. Being from New Jersey you get suspecious of dealers and the tricks they use...however, I must say that Berlin City Honda in Gorham, NH was for us a good trip and I think a decent deal considering the local dealers here are at or above MSRP. One dealer in Toms River had posted MSRP plus a $1500 mark-up about 2 months ago. Perhaps now the prices are normalizing, but it pays to travel to get that deal...
  • drive62drive62 Member Posts: 637
I believe in IL you pay tax based on where you live. At least it's that way for IL residents. Someone who buys in a county that has a lower tax still has to pay as if they bought in their own county. At least that's how it was when I last made a vehicle purchase.

More competition in the Chicago area (heck, Kenosha might as well be in the Chicago metro area) = better prices.
  • corvettecorvette Member Posts: 11,343
How to buy a car from "out of town":

Start expanding the area you're covering requesting quotes. Don't travel except to pick up the vehicle--do all the paperwork via FedEx. Make and keep a copy of the purchase order before and after you've signed it. If the dealer backs out of the deal, you'll have a written quote (the purchase order) to go from if you have to find someone else to honor the price.

You should be able to find nearby dealers by doing a dealer search with your zip code on Hondacars.com.

I looked for a 2007 Honda CR-V 2WD EX-L White with Roof Rack(MSRP $25,684). After checking with several dealers in my area and within a 300 mile radius, there was only ONE of these vehicles(in white) within 6 states of my location. One dealer in my location would not budge below MSRP. Several had new CR-V's(EX-L's)coming in that were already pre sold. The earliest I would be able to get one was mid-February. I didn't want to wait that long. So, after dickering with a dealer back and forth, the most I could get him to come down was to $24,900(with the roof rack added and installed). I drove 3 hours to KC pick it up. The lowest price I was able to negotiate with other dealers was $24,200(without a roof rack) but none of them had one and would have to trade another dealer for one. The problem is that no dealers are willing to give one of these up to another dealer right now.

I know I overpaid by a few hundred, but that will make little difference in my payment. Also, I am happier than I thought I would be with my new CR-V(I was also considering a RAV4 Limited). IMO, you can't beat the value of an EX-L CR-V vs. a RAV4 Limited. I may have overpaid a little, but I got the color and car I wanted. This is my first new car and so far I am very pleased.
  • nearmspnearmsp Member Posts: 90
    Congratulations!
I am noticing that the one of the ways of getting a lower price is either to negotiate for what is on the lot - saying you will buy right away this is my final price or, saying time is not an issue and you are happy to place an order if the price is right. Month ends work better because they start counting their numbers for the month.

Nothing like paying just a couple of hundred dollars extra if you can have it before the holidays!

FWIW, Richfield-Bloomington Honda tried a classic "bait and switch" on me in the summer of 2005. Plus, the finance guy tried to pull a fast one too. And, yes, the "internet manager" was a young man just as you described him earlier :D . The e-mail quotes worked great for me, but that was quite a different situation - buying a 05 model in 2005 compared to trying to get a deal on a new MY vehicle that is popular anyway.
    Good luck.

    Hi All..
I would like to know some fair dealers to buy a Honda CRV LX AWD. And the responses I got are like $22,000 + taxes. But I believe I can get a better deal for sure. Please suggest me some dealers.

    Thanks...wish u all merry christmas..

can u tell me where u got car from? that's the best deal i've seen so far. i'm assuming this has navigation system--being EX-L model? how's it driving so far? thanks.

    Welcome to the Club!!
I am here in Sarasota/Bradenton and am finding the same problem.
I am looking for the EX - AWD, and the best deal I get is MSRP.
Also, you know about the doc fees. My dealer wants $399 just to buy the car from him. How do you handle that?
PLEASE, PLEASE keep me posted on your progress as I also would not mind traveling to close a deal!!
  • snoopy21snoopy21 Member Posts: 114
bghunter, not all EX-Ls have navigation but all navigation models are EX-Ls. in other words, navigation is an option on EX-L models. still, that was a very good price indeed without navi.
