    Hi Pavant

That was a good price for CRV EX-L 4WD. Can you please post the dealer's name? I too am in MN and don't mind taking delivery any where in the state for a good deal! So far all my quotes are under $500 discount. Where you not charged any "Document fee"? I know there is a limit in some states on the amount that can be charged under this head.

    Jefferson,
Any good prices? I just sent out quote requests through Edmunds web page for an EX-4WD to a few twin cities dealerships. I will post the best deal. Meanwhile if you have already got some good price, please do post.
    thanks.

My 2005 CR-V was the first SUV I ever owned. I always preferred small cars. I actually won my CR-V, and I never got around to selling my older little car, a 1991 Subaru Loyale.

After my accident, I don't think I will ever own a regular "car" again. The driver curtain and side airbags went off and probably prevented me from getting seriously hurt. I sustained bruises and I'm still a bit sore, but I know it could have been a lot worse without the airbags. I am also convinced it would have been a lot worse if I had been driving my little car. I hit a Ford F250 just in front of the rear right tire (the driver ran a red light). My little car may well have gone under the bed of the truck. I hate to even think about what may have happened if I hadn't been in my SUV. (Pics of the vehicles are posted on my home page.)

I got the insurance payoff and it was quite generous (it was enough to purchase a new CR-V). Some people suggested I get a regular car, save some money, and pocket the difference. Since my accident, I've been driving my other car and I haven't felt safe at all. I don't think I'd feel safe in anything smaller than an SUV.

I loved my 2005 CR-V so much that I went out and got a 2006. I am still hesitant about driving, but I definitely feel a lot safer.

    Hello,

I purchased a 2007 CR-V LX AWD on 11/20, and it still hasn't arrived. When I ask my dealer when the car will be ready, he keeps saying it should be here any day, but he can't be more specific with a date. I have been told that dealerships actually know *exactly* what the status is of cars that have been ordered, am I starting to wonder whether it will in fact be a long time (like several months) before the car shows up, and that the dealer just doesn't want to tell me so that I won't cancel the order.

I recognize that the 2007 CR-V is a new design, and Honda's production lines may not yet be up to speed, but does anyone know how long a typical wait is to get one that isn't already sitting on the lot?

Also, from looking at the order contract I signed, it appears that I can cancel the order and get my deposit back if the car doesn't show up within 30 days after placing the order. Does anyone know if there is any fine print that the dealer will try to use to wriggle out of paying back the deposit if I cancel after 30 days?

    Thanks,

    --IO

Thanks for the message. I am planning to buy a CR-V, and I will definitely not place a signed "order" unless they have it in stock. He knows he has you on contract and so can keep selling these to new buyers. I suggest you check his stock from their website (if they have one) to make sure this is not happening. How much deposit did you pay? Did you order any accessories as well? Does the contract say if you cancel you are liable for that as well?

Hello, this is my first post to the Edmunds.com board. I currently own a PT Cruiser and would like to purchase a 2007 CRV LX 2WD. Is there anyone who could advise me of the dealership that would give me the best deal. Currently, the local dealer has offered me $21,584.50 (small dealer, taxs included). Other, much larger dealers have quoted in the $22,000 range taxs included.
  • hondaguy67hondaguy67 Member Posts: 66
just so you know. If you put a deposit on a car that is being ordered you can always get a refund of your deposit if you cancel. Under no circumstances will a dealer keep your deposit.

Do not be nervous about leaving one. If you decide to cancel you will get every penny back

I am planning to use a professional car pricing service to find the best deal on a 2007 CRV EX-L 2WD in the Bay Area. I am planning to use www.carbargains.org service which costs $190. If anyone is interested in sharing the results/cost please email me.

Carbargain.org is a professional car price negotiator. They negotiate with several local dealers on the buyer's behalf. It is anonymous and there is no obligation to buy a car.

If you have a Costco membership or AAA you may use their pricing service. Probably won't get you that great a deal, but just as good or better than what you're planning, and you'll save 190 bucks.

If you must, get a 45.00 Costco membership, get their not so great quotes, and compare them with the not so great quotes you get from the "professional" service. You'll have learned something and still have a year at a good wholesale club.

Even better, email 5-20 dealers last week of the month with your requirements and stated plan to buy before months end. See what you can scrounge up. See my message 3863 and follow from there for more info on how to buy a car. You might as well learn as this pricing and car buying service stuff in general provides sometimes fair, but usually mediocre to terrible results, and can cost you really big dough in some situations.

Fyi: the 2wd model is half the machine the 4wd model is, for a a possible 2mpg savings and $1200 it isn't worth it. In practice this may only be $700-800 because the 4wd supply is much greater than the 2wd in many areas and you may be able to work a better deal.

You're already dealing with a relatively low supply vehicle in the Ex-l. The 2wd requirement and any pickiness on color may limit you to 1 or 2 dealers in a 200mi radius which works against you. Check out the Honda dealer locator and inventory on the Honda website for the supply situation on your vehicle.

    Happy Hunting

Okay, I have been researching the '07 CRV-EXL for about 2 weeks and am sure I want to purchase one. I had not planned on buying a new car for about another year but I have a two year old that I am having a very difficult time getting into my Mazda 6 backseat. My back is killing me! I live in the Houston area, and did as everyone here mentioned, which was e-mail the dealers within a 100 mile radius. I got back numerous quotes, but after some tough negotiating, the best I have gotten is $24,500 plus TT&L. The only problem is they only have one EX-L........black. The one color I didn't want. It is a beautiful car, but I own a black vehicle now and cannot keep it clean.

So I went to the dealer today where I thought I would get the second best offer, but they weren't true to their claim. They said they would beat any deal, but they won't. I drove the car and when negotiations began, his offer was this:

    2007 CRV-EXL 2WD MSRP: $25,395
possible discount (he wasn't even sure he could do it, so he said): $500
    Total before taxes: $24,895 (maybe)
    Trade-in: 2003 Mazda 6 in good condition with only $36k miles.........$9000.

I didn't feel as though this was a good deal. I expected at least 10k on my car. Of course, he said they don't use the Kelley Blue Book, they use some type of car auction, and he said that is what the dealer could expect to get for my car. I say no way!

Here is my question.......can a dealer give you quotes over e-mail and not stand by them? I intend to see the dealer who gave me the best quote tomorrow. He stated he could swap the black CRV-EXL for another color. How does that work? Do you have to pay an additional fee? If there is a fee, I may just have to learn to like the black one, lol.

I'm a new member with a two-part question. First, looking to purchase a 2007 CR-V EX. After reading Yangdari's message, #3886 above, I did some research on Carbargains.org. The service has received good reviews in print, but I wanted to see if anyone has any real-world experience using the site and if it is really worth the $190 to employ them. Looking for specifics on how much they were able to save. Do they limit their search to only five price quotes? That's what is seems and five quotes really doesn't seem like a lot.

Secondly, has anyone in the LA area had any great success getting a stand-out price on a 2007 CR-V EX? If so, could you share your experience and the dealer from where you purchased?

    Thanks very much.

Just picked up our 07 EX after waiting for 6 weeks. Wanted white and just had to wait for one to come in. We paid 22,200 with no other fees or charges. Central Arkansas. Excellent dealer with excellent service. Very Happy Customer!

obviously, a slimy dealer will do exactly as you experienced. as a consumer, just walk away and give your business to a honest dealer...honestly, i don't know how some of these guys sleep at night.

as far as dealer trades, it's common. they just find another dealership that is willing to trade vehicles in their inventory. my brother-in-law is retired now and he shuttles trade vehicles between dealerships and gets paid $75 per transfer (obviously, he only does it for fun). some dealerships may charge a fee but most dealerships that i'm aware of just count it as part of the cost of doing business.

Hey...I'm up in Fayetteville. What dealer did you buy from? Conway? Little Rock?
  • yangdariyangdari Member Posts: 20
I think it is not a good deal. The best deal I was able to negotiate for a 2WD EX-L is $25,700 out-the-door (including 8.25% CA tax). You should be able to get at least $1500 off MSRP. Also, I would recommed you do not trade in the Mazda but sell it privately (use craigslist.org). You will get more out of it and the dealer won't be able to confuse you with bundled prices. Also, don't let the dealer bs you about not being able to sell below invoice. There is a 3% "holdback" in addition to other potential manufacturer-to-dealer incentives. The holdback alone is worth ~$700 for this vehicle. So, even if the dealer sells the car for $200 below invoice, he still makes $500 gross margin, which should be incentive enough to sell it to you.

On your trade in you tell them what you want go to Kelly, Nada, and edmunds and print out your car. Take this and use this as a tool remember when they do search they always use Fair to Good on your car no matter if its in excellent condition. Use this site to get your fair cost of the 07 then tell them that this what you want on the trade in and new be ready to walk. Remember 90% of people who walk never come back and they know this.

    Good luck

I bought my Honda CRV 2007 in October and it has 2400 miles on it. It says the oil life is 80%. I always had used cars all my life and I have no clue about buying a new car and service history and stuff. I had registered with the owner's link and hoping that they will remind me about my services. But no emails from them yet. Meanwhile my sales man from dealership mailed me saying it may be time for servicing and don't delay as this is important for resale value....blah blah. So I am bit confused. Please advise when I need to do servicing and is there any web links that can of help to me.
    Thanks in advance.

"I bought my Honda CRV 2007 in October and it has 2400 miles on it. It says the oil life is 80%."

That equates to 3000 miles for the oil change. This seems a bit too early, since the same engine went 5000 on the severe schedule in the 2006 model.

80% of oil life left? That would make it about 12K miles..

    Hi All,
I just drove much awaited Honda CR-V EX-L AWD to my home. The car looks great. I took the Glacier blue color. It was 27,000$ out the door. Its about 1720$ below MSRP. Also I took the 8 year 120k warranty. I know honda is a reliable car. But I just wanted to be on a fair side. Also I did take a loan and it was about 20 dollars difference for a payment. I thought that would be more safe. Anyhow I felt happy with the dealer, the delivery was very easy. The business officer was also not like others who will force you to take the extended warranty. Anyhow i stay in Minneapolis and I drove 1 hour to get the car and it was worth it. Let me know if anyone is looking for the car in the same area. I will help them.............
  • nearmspnearmsp Member Posts: 90
    Hi Pavant,
Congratulations on your new Honda! I have been looking around forsome time now but not yet placed an order. You got a pretty good price. I too live near Minneapolis but I am happy to drive down even to WI if I get a good deal. I will take up your offer of the help. I am all ears for the name of the dealership. I know you can't post names of salesman, but the name of the dealership would suffice.

what color did you buy? Did your out the door price include the warranty too? If not how much did the extended warranty cost?

This is Ramana here. I am looking to buy 07 Honda CRV LX AWD and am living in Denver. I am with you to pull in my share for carbargains. And do let me know your contact number please.

Hi Ramana, I live in Colorado and I got the best deal on my 2005 Pilot from Fisher Honda in Boulder. The internet salesman was honest. I would check their inventory on-line (they have 5 LX awd's) and get a specific quote on one of the vehicles including destination charge, dealer fees and admin fees. They were $700 lower than the next lowest bid of the five dealers I solicited. Try to get bids from other dealers. Some of them did not list their new inventory so you'll either have to get the info by phone from their internet salesperson or visit their lot on a Sunday. Good luck with your purchase. Take care. ....Which is the better of the two..??
I have headr that the AWD system used by Subaru is superior to that used by Honda, in that it provides better traction and is thus safer for all driving conditions with overall better handling. the Honda though comes with standard Traction and Stability control..............just can't seem to make up my mind. Subaru now has a $1500 rebate on the Foresters.................can anybody give some insight please.!!

    howardt55,
Wow, someone else is in Northern VA! Who else did you get prices from? Which EX-L did you get? AWD 4WD? with NAV?
I live in Alex and go all the way to Koons for service because of one mechanic!
When I purchased current 1998 AccordEX I ended up down at Hendrick in Woodbridge. I have had only Hondas for 30 years and drove a 2007 EX-L AWD 4wd today and think it's OK. Doesn't have a number of things I'd hoped for, but it should be reliable since it's a Honda.
How do you like yours??? Thanks for any insights.

Is the Forester AWD better? Probably...

But, it is the entire package you have to consider... Is the CR-V engine smoother and better balanced? More fuel efficient? I'd say yes to both of those..

Pick whichever car you like the most, and fits your lifestyle and driving habits the best.. don't worry about the details... You really can't go wrong with either one.

I too had this dilema. I drove the Forestor and then the Honda CR-V. I did not bother to test drive the RAV4 after the Honda. I found the Forestor very noisy. It did better in snow and on turns. But the Honda was more roomy and more comfortable. If I lived in snow country then I would have considered Forestor. But with 45" or so the CR-V is good enough. The CR-V comes standard with ESC. The safety features are the same in all CR-V trims. Whereas on the Subaru they are all add ons. That said, both vehicles came in the top 10 vehicles in the latest crash test report (Insurance institute and road safety). So which ever vehicle you buy, you will not go wrong. It comes down to personal choice. I am a Honda guy so it would be very difficult for me to switch to a non Honda unless it something very very special:)

Like stated by kyfdx you cant go wrong with either we own a 04 Forester and a 06 CR-V they both have there +&-. The Subaru has a #1 AWD system locking diff, , drives like a car very good all around. CR-V AWD very good , more room in back, and stability and tracton control. Drive them both let your needs decide.

    Good Luck

Anyone who bought a CRV EX-L AWD lately can tell me any dealership who will give a competitive price? I have checked out the usual twin cities dealerships and I am getting around $28k out the door price.

"Pavant" got the same vehicle for $27k, but he did not post the name of the dealer or town. Hopefully when he is done with driving cross town in his new CR-V he will be back.

I am prepared to wait and also travel up to 400 miles for a good price. Would appreciate any tips.
    thanks.

I was pretty happy with the price of $23,400 including destination but before taxes.
and had them put mud flaps on for no charge.
I feel pretty good about this price.
Good luck to all shopping for one. This was my first new vehicle and this website was VERY helpful to me.

I don't think that this is a good deal unless you have compared the vehicle prices from several dealers' internet salepeople and that deal is the best one. Did you get a quote from the internet salesman at Fisher Honda in Bouler?
Your quote breaks down as follows: The invoice price with destination is $20,763 and the retail price from handaaccessories.com for the four items is $984 without installation. The total invoice price would be $21747 plus accessories installation.
They quote $20,873 plus $399 dealer profit, plus $1770 for the four accessory items, for a total of $23,042. I don't know how many hours of labor it takes to install the extras, but the bid seems high to me.
I had good luck with the internet salesman at Fisher Honda when I bought my Honda Pilot which is why I suggest him as a potential sales source. Good luck. Ralph

Black with black leather interior and navigation system. We had gone to 2 other dealers and all were charging MSRP+ ("since it is such a hot vehicle right now"). Got it for $26K (inc dest) + TT&T. Pretty happy with the price.

Two weeks ago we purchased a 2007 EX 2WD Glacier Blue from Poway Honda in San Diego for $22,750 (incl dest) + $45 doc fee + $8.75 tire fee + TTL. This was a very straightforward deal as I paid cash, didn't have a trade in, and didn't buy an extended warranty or other for-dealer-profit accessory like a roof rack, mud flaps (BTW, I got those myself at http://www.handa-accessories.com/crv07.html) or window etching, etc. Other people on this board seem to be getting less, but I wonder about the total deal they got.

I think this was a fair price (maybe not great..) as this exact car was not in stock at any of the six or seven San Diego Honda dealerships or further up in Orange County, best as I could tell, for at least a couple of weeks. Finally got a call from Poway Honda that they could get one for me the next day, and having had the best, low pressure, internet experience with them of the San Diego dealers I contacted, proceded to deal with them and got a couple of hundred dollars off the quoted internet price.

Also, as a FYI to anyone interested, I used the Edmunds price quote service and also emailed a few other dealers in San Diego and found everyone's internet price was about $22,950, and also everyone said their invoice price was $21,945 (not the $21,732 on Edmunds) they said due to advertising fees. As Edmunds says that 1% Ad fees are normal, and everyone was quoting the same thing, the higher invoice price might be true, though I hate trusting the dealers! Also, the Edmunds TMV price is $23,168 so my price of $22,750 isn't bad.

    Hi,
I've gotten 2 quotes, one $200 and one $500 off MSRP. This seems ridiculous to me, maybe I should go up to MA or out to MN, seems like those areas, you can strike a deal. If anyone has any nearby info, pls post. Also, very little inventory to be had, it seems.
  • nearmspnearmsp Member Posts: 90
I visited a dealer this week and mentioned a price over Invoice. He said if you want that price you will need to wait until March when the production from the Ohio plant will come on stream and the market will be saturated with CR-Vs. I may wait until then and have a good choice of colors too. I am not prepared to buy with just a discount of $500-$700 over MSRP.

    Dan:

Yes its true that the AWD system is perhaps one of the best in the industry. I have owned two foresters. When the weather is bad the forester is great. Don't get me wrong, the Forester is a good car but I found the seats very unconfortable especially on long trips. If you opt for the moonroof when opened there is considerable wind noise.
I strongly suggest you get all windows including the moonroof tinted, since the vehicle get extremely hot in the summer, and the A/c takes considerable time to cool off the vehicle. plus if you decide to purchase this vehicle make sure you check out the Subaru service center, they seem to be declining. Overall the subaru is a well built vehicle, I have just outgrown it. I fell the honda will give you more room. I would suggest you test drive both vehicles at least 3 times with different driving conditions. One in the day on dry pavement, one during wet raining weather, and one a night. Then you will be able to get a good idea of which vehicle is right for you.
I hope this helps you and I do not mean to insult or slam subaru. My subaru's served be well with no problems, I have just moved on.
