Now I'm the dumb consumer who should've "haggled better." Nice one there, Rich!! lol

Folks, let's not get personal please.

For those who are interested we have a discussion on the main Smart Shopper board that will be helpful with "dealer conveyance" and other fees. Here is a link: Doc Fees.

Let's get back to our subject now - thanks.
  • audia8qaudia8q Member Posts: 3,138
Yes its the same...different regions have diff names for the same thing.

I am the first to tell consumers to shop OTD numbers if at all possible...it's the easiest way for consumers to compare apples for apples. It also makes things easier for me as a dealer to work a deal.
  • chikoochikoo Member Posts: 3,008
I feel you should have ASKED Rich what will be your FINAL price before signing the papers. I did and I always do. These days "the price" is only a base price. To not expect any other tack on is IMO, naive.

    ($23,715 2004 6s) took 0% financing option in lieu of $1,500 rebate.
     Black/Black Leather
     Luxury Package
     Sports Package
     Sports Grill
     Bose Upgrade
     Side air bags
     Moon roof
     locking wheels

Easy purchase, a couple e-mails back and forth.
  • likaglovlikaglov Member Posts: 82
    Sounds like a great price!

The 0% financing is until 3/31/04. Do you know if the $1500 rebate has been extended until then as well, or does the rebate still expire on 3/01/04. I can't seem to get an consistent answer on this one... Edmunds is out of date (doesn't list the 0%) Mazda doesn't list the rebate at all, just the 0%...

    Thanks in advance.

I would like to order a 6s and try to have it arrive before the end of March. Is this possible?
I have talked to three dealers and have gotten back 8 weeks, 12 weeks, or 3.5 months for delivery. Why does this seem so difficult. I had a friend recently order a Saturn and get it within three weeks, because the dealer changed one of his allocations.
I want a blazing copper, Bose, Luxury pkg, moonroof, side air bags, automatic, and sport pkg with spoiler. They can't find one within a reasonable distance, and I don't really like the idea of someone driving my car before I get it, and why pay for extra shipping if I should be able to order it.
  • audia8qaudia8q Member Posts: 3,138
Mazda, like most import brands run on a monthly allocation system and only process orders once a month. Also the dealer must have the "earnings" to get your order processed. If the dealer didn't earn the allocation to fit your order in, mazda will drop the order to the next month and so on. Sometimes Mazda won't pick up the order for no reason at all and the dealer has no control over this...so your local dealers are playing it safe with the order time. IF they tell you 12 weeks and it shows up in 8 the dealer is a hero...but if they tell you 6 and it takes 12 weeks the dealer is a liar, crook and thief, haha.. I have seen MZ6's show up in 8 weeks and some take 5 months.
  • fordracefanfordracefan Member Posts: 6
Thanks for the info. None of the dealers would explain that to me. Is the car I'm looking for a rare car or is it popular as far as 6s sedans go? Also am I being to picky about having the dealer drive my car from the other dealer? I might just wait for the Hatchback, but 0 for 60 months is sweet and probably won't come around on the hatchback for awhile. Again thaks for the help.
  • audia8qaudia8q Member Posts: 3,138
I understand your concerns about somebody driving your new car from another dealership but most dealers I know use retired guys to do dealer swaps and rarely is there a problem. Some dealers even make the salesperson do the swaps....

If you have the time to wait and your concerned, then do a factory order, but swapping is a big reality with import brands because of the ordering process...Also, with Mazda there is no incentive lock in, so whatever the incentives when the car arrives is what you would qualify for, not when you order. They might get better, but they might not.

I don't expect 0% on the 5 door anytime soon...but you never know. It all depends on the sales rate and national inventories.
  • bostongiobostongio Member Posts: 52
What an experience this has been.

After looking into other dealers for the 5-door, I re-thought my needs and took a hard look at the pricing.

I couldn't pass up on the incentives being offered on the 4-door. Especially when you consider that the hatchback premium you pay now may actually hurt you in resale (hatchbacks usually retain less value in resale). I hadn't thought of that as much when it looked like it might be a $800 or $1k difference.

So I ended up getting a 4 door:

    2004 6s - manual transmission
    Sport package
    Luxury package
    Bose audio
    SAB/SAC
    Moonroof
    Sport grille
    Steel gray metallic exterior/black interior

Ended up paying $22,000 with the incentives, $23,326 with TTL out the door. That's about $3500 less than the 5-door I was going to buy!! Yeah, I might miss the slight additional utility of that 5th door, but not $3500 worth of missing.

ordering the 6 is people want alot of options it seems. The 6 is sure moving in Central Jersey though. I'm truly impressed by the way this car has penetrated the market. Looks like Mazda got their stuff together with their product planning. It took them 7 years(1997)to rebuild the Mazda brand but they have done it.

Just made a deal on a New 2004 6I, it is still on the truck, not even on the lot yet. It has the Auto Trans, the security pak, the sports package with 17in wheels and the sensor upgrade. OTD is 19,1900. That includes the 5% tax we pay here in mississippi. Good or not? I haven't signed anything yet, just a verbal agreement.
  • spider07spider07 Member Posts: 4
that should be 19,900 not 19,1900,, sorry.

I have noticed that early morning after I start My Mazda6, switch on the aircon..When I start releasing the clutch I hear a slight gud gud sound from the front..A Typical sound that makes you feel that the engine bed is loose or soo. I have this problem only then the engine is cold. Once the vehicle warms up its all OK

On Dec. 17th I purchased a new Mazda 6 Sport with Spoiler,MT, Side Air bags, Moonroof, Sport Grill, Luxury Package, Bose Audio. I used the S-Plan and paid $23,820 before tax, doc, mass transit, license fees. My question is in the $23820 price is a $200.00 St. Louis Assessment fee. What is that? I asked my dealer and he said everybody pays that if the car is not on there lot. (I ordered it) I also ordered a Mazda MPV about 6 months before with the S-plan and don't recall this $200.00 assessment fee on there. Can anybody tell me about this charge?
  • peter1cpeter1c Member Posts: 5
Does anyone know when the Mazda6 Hatchback (5 door) will be available? (not the wagon). I was wondering if anyone thinks there will be incentives, or will they try to rob us all in the begining for those who cannot wait? I have been researching the Mazda6 for several months, I am a little weary of getting it because of the unusually high price and the so called alignment and transmission problems. But I do love the look and the comfort. Any suggestions?
  • johnny420johnny420 Member Posts: 473
More than likely, the "St Louis assessment fee" is a bogus ploy used by your salesman to pad his profit.

Threaten to walk on the deal, and I bet you'll be stunned by how fast that "fee" is dropped.

  • mazda6smazda6s Member Posts: 1,901
There's a dealer here (not Mazda) that adds on $687 to every car for insurance, storage, and dealer prep. If you ask them about it, they'll say "everybody who buys a car from us pays that". So, I guess I'll never buy a car from them. ;)
  • audia8qaudia8q Member Posts: 3,138
The assessment fee is a fancy term for an ad fee...most manufacturers have this type of fee and it's legit. Toyota calls it TDA, ford calls it FDAF etc..The dealer pays the fee as part of the vehicle invoice and it is not a profit center for the dealer. I can't speak for your area but here in the northeast region Mazda started the ad fee when corp mazda formed regional ad groups nationwide last year.

The 5-door M6 is hitting the lots now. Check the hatchback board and future models board for more information.

I just got my new 6s yesterday. It is Lapis Blue with the Tan interior, and it looks awesome. I couldn't be happier. I also got the sport pkg, bose, automatic, luxury pkg, moonroof, and SAB. I will be getting my Sport grille hopefully by the end of the week. I only have to small complaints. The Bose stereo seems to be have a lot of static when listening to FM stations. With the CD is is awesome. And there is a small speck of dirt that is in the paint right above the Mazda symbol on the trunk. I might have this fixed, but I'm not sure if they could repair it so it looked like new. But I love the car so much these are easily overlooked. I've caught myself easily over the speed limit without even noticing how fast I was going. This car is even better then my old 97 SHO.

I just got off the phone with Mazda and the rebates for the 2004 Mazda 6 have been increased to $2500 or 0% for 60 months. Wish I could afford one! Now is the time to get it.
  • tmossatmossa Member Posts: 8
Found out today that when you use the Mazda S-plan (or Ford X-plan) that you are not suppose to be charged Doc Fees or other dealer normal cost. I asked my dealership today about the $200.00 St. Louis Assessment Fee and was told that is there advertising fee. That would seem to me to be a dealer normal cost. Anyway I have confirmed that the $52.67 Doc fees on two vehicles I bought were not suppose to be charged. I have asked my dealership for a refund. They are suppose to give me a answer about it tomorrow. If you are a S-plan or X-plan buyer, you may want to watch out for these charges.
  • likaglovlikaglov Member Posts: 82
My dealer called and said the new M6 rebates were:

    $1500 rebate + 0.0% financing
      or
    $2000 rebate + 2.9% financing

could be a regional difference (I'm in NC). Still waiting on Edmunds to update their info.
  • spider07spider07 Member Posts: 4
I called Mazda this morning and they told me the rebates were 1500 or 0%. I am in Mississippi, so it might be a regional thing.
  • rponsetirponseti Member Posts: 35
I talked to a local dealer and she said that the $2500 rebates is for leases only. So maybe the guy at Mazda was misinformed. Sorry if I got anyone excited!
  • likaglovlikaglov Member Posts: 82
Another local dealer called me back today and said the current rebate (expiring 3/31/04) is:

    $1500 rebate
      or
    $500 rebate + 0.0% financing

Not sure which of my posts is correct, but it sounds like it's probably this one. That's also consistent with the incentives that just expired.
  • mazda6smazda6s Member Posts: 1,901
I called Mazda Customer Service today and they told me "up to $2500" or 0% financing, but the person I talked to didn't even ask me where I was and couldn't tell me what "up to $2500" meant, so I don't think she really knew.
  • audia8qaudia8q Member Posts: 3,138
    2004 mz6 sedan incentives...

    1500 customer rebate
       OR
    0% for 60 months
       OR
$500 dealer cash and 2.9% for 60 months.

If you are leasing with a leasing company other than mazda there is $2500 in dealer cash. But this does not apply to the very good mazda lease program. The reason for this is due to vicarious liability issues in some states that mazda won't lease...forcing the dealer to use an outside lease company like Hahn, chase etc...

Hope this clears things up...the mazda customer serv people rarely get it right.
  • ebeneben Member Posts: 26
Mazda's Website says, for the 6:
    2003 sedan: 0 percent or $2,500 cash
    2004 sedan: 0 percent or $1,500 cash
2004 hatch and wagon: 2.9 percent
  • cheesehead6cheesehead6 Member Posts: 68
Has anyone noticed that Mazda appears to have raised the base price? According to Edmunds it's now $145 higher on the 6i. Haven't figured it out for the 6s.
  • rponsetirponseti Member Posts: 35
Does anyone know where to find info on the 2003 rebates? I was wondering if there was any marketing support in addition to the $2500 rebate. Couple of local dealers still have a good bit of 2003's left. They should be getting desparate to get rid of them. Thanks!
  • likaglovlikaglov Member Posts: 82
According to Edmunds, there is $500 marketing support (dealer cash) on the 2004 models. I would think this might apply to the 2003's as well, but I'm not certain of that.

Has anyone been successful at getting the dealer to give up that $500 (in addition to the $1500 customer cash)? Is there a secret code you need to mention, or do you just tell them that you know about the dealer cash?
  • rampedramped Member Posts: 358
Your best move is to not even mention dealer cash when you negotiate.

Just subtract that amount from your offer, and let the dealer decide what he wants to do.
  • likaglovlikaglov Member Posts: 82
I forgot to mention that I'm purchasing using S-plan, so the price is "fixed". I expect them to "play dumb" about the dealer cash, so I wondered what are my chances of getting it out of them.

    Thanks.
  • mazda6smazda6s Member Posts: 1,901
Does anyone know if this applies to 5-door models or only sedans?
  • ramped1ramped1 Member Posts: 159
I think Rich said a few posts ago that the incentive on the 5-doors was restricted to 2.9 percent for 60 months.

Glove: The S-plan means you can't bury the $500 dealer cash in your offer, so I guess you'll just have to ask for it. Maybe ask if they'll split it. You are already getting a pretty good deal with S-plan and rebate, so even without the dealer cash you should feel pretty good about the deal. And, don't forget, you are buying a pretty nice car.
  • mazda6smazda6s Member Posts: 1,901
Dealer incentives are totally separate from customer incentives (like the 2.9% financing), and dealers don't like to talk about them.
  • likaglovlikaglov Member Posts: 82
I agree, it's a nice car either way. I just can't seem to decide on the color :-) I like the red, but the beige leather bugs me a bit. Black leather, on the other hand, looks great but will be pretty hot here in NC in the summer...

    decisions, decisions... :-)
  • rampedramped Member Posts: 358
I'm in Florida. You couldn't pay me to take black leather. It gets pretty hot in N.C. too, doesn't it? Is cloth out of the question?
  • likaglovlikaglov Member Posts: 82
Yes, it does get plenty hot here in NC. I'm shying away from the cloth based on what I've read here about fraying, etc. (plus I'd just kinda like leather this time).

I keep trying to tell myself that the beige is fine and the black is too hot. But then I keep trying to sell myself on the black anyway. Perhaps tinted windows or a remote starter would help with the heat :-) Too bad the windows can't be rolled down from the key-fob. Don't really know what I'll end up doing... Regretting the heat or regretting the looks.
  • josh684josh684 Member Posts: 55
You Can Get a Clifford Alarm that will do all that for you. It will put all windows down with the touch of a button, and you can also have the autostart if you wish. I am gonna get a Mz6 and I am def. getting the black leather, and I live in Florida. My dad just bought a New Infiniti QX56 with black leather. Its really not that bad, if you can wait 1-2 mins before leaveing.

Hello all...I am new to the forum. I just purchased a 2004 Mazda 6s Manual from a dealership here in Northern VA. I got the Sport, Luxury Package and Bose System options as well. I was able to use the $500 college grad rebate and opted for the 0% APR instead of the $1500 off. I was able to negotiate the deal to 24k out the door (including taxes, titles, etc...). The sales guy really gave me a hard time about this, but after some reading here, it sounds as if I could have gotten it down to closer to 23k ... is this correct??
  • slow95zslow95z Member Posts: 3
I currently have a dealer willing to give me S-Plan pricing (basically Invoice I think), the 1500 rebate, and an additional 500 off (I'm guessing that's his 500 dealer holdback). problem is that he really doesn't have any Mazda 6s's in stock :(.

I guess as the old adage still holds - "Lady, I could sell it at that price too if I didn't have any".

pauloverholt82 - It's hard to say if you got a "good deal" or not. Not that you didn't, it's just that there are to many variables to really judge. Things like all features, 'out the door pricing' vs. deal (i.e. including not including sales tax, etc.) You have to make an apples/apples comparison.

Another issue is general regional issues, i.e. what is the dealer holdback in your region, vehicle availability, and specific regional issues, i.e. what are other dealers in your area doing, how long was the car sitting, how close was the dealer to any potential sales goal levels, etc. Even color of vehicle can cause an adjustment.

    Let's crunch some numbers -

The vehicle I'm looking at potentially is a Mazda 6s:
                                   MSRP Invoice
    National Base Price $21,525 $19,851

    with the following options:
    Optional Equipment $4,915 $3,995
       1LX Luxury Package $1,540 $1,232
       AT2 5-Speed Sport AT $900 $783
       1SE Sport Package
           w/ Rear Spoiler $770 $616
       MR1 Power Moonroof $700 $560
       3RA Bose Audio Package $635 $508
       MRH Compass/AutoDim Mirror
           with Homelink $250 $200
       FLA All-Weather Floor Mats $60 $48
SSU Alarm Shock Sensor Upgrade $60 $48
       Destination Charge $520 $520

    Total with Options $26,960 $24,366

If I take off the $2000 for rebate and hold back they are willing to kick in - I'm looking at 22,366, plus various license and taxes. Anything at or near invoice is pretty good in my book and it sounds like you are pretty close to that, given you said you price was 'out the door' and you took the %0 as opposed to the rebate.

I got quoted for a new 100 miles 6i loaded (leather, bose, sports package, moonroff, etc.) $20746 ($1246 below invoice) retail price was $24295. This will be financed for 60 months @ 0% APR.

What do you all think of the price? Can I do better? What about on a 2004?
  • ericzoomericzoom Member Posts: 213
I just got a 2004 Mazda 6s for a great price. It has V6,auto,sport package with spoiler, luxury package, bose audio, side airbags, cargo net and wheel locks. There was hardly any haggling at the dealer in Fl.I searched many other dealers and websites, and nobody came close to that price.

What are the qualification requirements for the Mazda
customer loyalty discount? Mazda states that a "direct mail letter" must be presented to the dealer.

Are these being sent out to previous Mazda owners? Is loyalty offered on the MZ6/4d/5d/WG?

    Thanks
  • cheesehead6cheesehead6 Member Posts: 68
My impression is that it pertains to the Mazda 3 only. I'm getting a 6 so I'd sure like to be informed otherwise!
