I wonder what is going on with the TMV edmunds provides for the TSX? As stated earlier I was able to get $1300 off my 05 6MT non-navi. However, TMV comes in at sticker. Seems like people placing blind trust in the Edmunds number would pay $1300 more.

Also, seems as though the Dallas market must be very competitive as they have some of the best prices posted here.

    karmann8888,

I live in So Cal and bought 05 TSX AT with nav over Christmas weekend. Paid $28,200 + $200 for Protection pack including destination fees. Total was $28,400 + tax and fees.

I initially got quotes via the internet. Once I had my best price, I called the dealer nearest me and asked if they would beat this price. I wound up paying about $300 more than the best offer I had, but I did get free lifetime oil changes. So the $300 difference was not that big a deal. I also got 2.9% financing for 60 mos. I feel that I got a good deal for the car. I love driving it and am very happy with it.

    Good luck with your purchase.

"Torque curve is pretty flat with 90% available at 2000, tailing off after reaching its peak 166 at 4500."

Thanks for that factoid, pretty much syncs with what I've observed and explains why the regular "D" setting has shifts at such low RPM's. Also explains how the engine pulls quite nicely starting at around 4000. Trick with the "D3" setting is keeping it up there, but I'm getting the hang of it. . .

I just received an email from Riverside Acura. For a 2005 Acura TSX with AT and Navigation, they have quoted me $30,000 out the door including all fees and taxes. I believe this works out to $500 over invoice, or $27,470. I am still confirming all the items, but if it is true, it may be too good to pass up.
  • eyedoc_00eyedoc_00 Member Posts: 14
That would be a great deal in my mind. i paid $31,000 out the door. Again, i did pay more to get the car closer to home and free oil changes.

Does that also include their add on of "RED ALERT." They are the only dealer that I know of that offers it. I did not pay for it. They wanted $895 for it. I told them that I was not going to pay anything over the $31,000. Therefore, I did not get it.

... Black/Parchment AT w/NAVI for $28,200, including protection package and sunroof visor. Could have had the car for $27,900 at a competing dealer with the same package, but they tried to stiff me on my trade.... $1500 compared to $3200 for the same car at the winning dealer (Leith Acura, Cary NC). I already own a 2004 Accord EX-V6 w/NAVI and my wife and I both love the car, but we couldn't see buying two of the same car.... and the TSX came the closest to the Accord in bang for the buck. The 2.9% financing special is what convinced us to go ahead and make the purchase.

    I paid

    $1715 for extended warranty -> 7 Yr, 100K

    $500 for GAP

and $215 for Tires and wheels insurance(they said that they will replace the tires if the blow out and

the wheels if the get bent etc)

What do you guys think ? Are these useful ? I still have the option to cancel.

    Thanks.
  • uncledaviduncledavid Member Posts: 548
I'm a little confused by your post. If you are buying an extended warranty, I assume you will be purchasing the car and planning to keep it a long time. But, if you are going for GAP insurance, doesn't that suggest a lease?

Either way, I'd pass on the warranty. Honda builts a resonably reliable car and it is very unlikely you'll sustain $1715 (which, btw, is a ridculously inflated price) worth of repairs in years 5 - 7.

The Acura wheels will almost never get bent. They're very, very durable. They scratch easy though. It would cost about $800 - $900 to get four brand new replacements over the internet.

The tires are low profile, and easily damaged.
  • rithrith Member Posts: 4
So i called my dealer again and according to them

    1. If you make no claims in years 5,6,7 then you get your money back at the end of 7 yrs.

    2. Any claim in yrs 1,2,3,4 are under manufacturer's warranty.

Apologies for stating the obvious, but that seems like a win-win situation.

GAP: I bought the car with no money down. If in the first yr, lets say 3 months from now, my car gets totalled and my insurance company pays me even base price, i will still be $2K short(taxes) and this $500 covers that. I plan to remove it after a yr though(and so it will have costed me $125). I would have made close to 6k on payments and hopefully my TSX would not have depreciated that much.

    1) I have heard of GAP insurance for car loans as well.. not sure if it is a good buy or not...

    2) Tire and wheel insurance is hard to collect on... and usually not worth it.

    3) The extended warranty is okay.. it is the price you paid that is awfully high.. Something closer to $1000-$1200 would be fair.

    4) Be aware... since you financed the entire purchase price... you won't get anything back when you cancel any of these warranties... they will only use it to reduce the balance on your loan.. which is okay, just something to be aware of..

    regards,

Congrats on your purchase. I am jealous. Gives us lots of driving impressions, especially compared to other cars you looked at or have owned previously. The color combo sounds intriguing. How do you like the parch interior? Isn't the dash still black?
  • phkckphkck Member Posts: 185
Is it a HondaCare Warranty? If so as most have said here that will cost $1,100 to $1,200. Plus the Acura Extended warranty can be purchased just prior to end of the factory 4yr/50K.

GAP insurance on a loan these days is good advice esp. with 5-6-7 year loans out there. Luckily for me USAA provides that on all of their car loans.

Tires and wheels? Our 04 TL has 4 scratched rims, not bad but would be worth it if covered.

The TL rims get no protection from the tires (rim sticks out further than the tire.

Also, get in writing about getting your money back if you keep the warranty.

Rueshan - congrats on your deal on the TSX. I am also in NC and shopping -- can you tell me if you were able to negotiate out of the ridiculous $400 document fee that Leith Acura in Cary is asking for their cars? Any strategies for dealing with the local dealerships?
  • caipcaip Member Posts: 1
tomorrow is the last day of 2.9% financing.

My wife insisted that she wants "meteor sliver" TSX. And the dealer just had one arrived today.

The price will be 27,992 + fee + tax.

Will go to pick it up tomorrow morning...
  • rueshanrueshan Member Posts: 32
Yes, that Leith doc fee is horrible, however I was able to get them to lower the price of the car by $200 additional dollars to at least cut that in half at the very end of negotiating... but I didn't count that $200 in the amount that I posted as having paid for the car. I was actually able to get a slightly better price at Performance Acura in Chapel Hill, but they dropped the ball and couldn't close the deal after I gave them a shot at my trade-in. All I can tell you is to deal with the internet managers exclusively, and let them compete for the best price by e-mail or over the phone... have a firm price before you show up at the winning dealer... you just may need to have more than one TSX exterior/interior color combination that you are willing to accept for the best deals, because the deals are not as sweet if they have to pay to transport the car. It's even better when you can find your preferred color combination already on the way to your dealer, that way you can buy it right off the truck.
  • rueshanrueshan Member Posts: 32
The top of the dash is black with the parchment interior, which turns out to look very nice with the black exterior of the car. It is a very attractive color combination in my opinion, and I never even considered those colors together until I actually saw it at the dealer.

As far as driving impressions, I need to put a few more miles on the TSX before opening it up a bit (not to mention getting the car away from my wife), but I still love driving my 2004 Accord V6... the horsepower is addictive and I still find that it idles and accelerates a bit smoother than the TSX. I have also found that the voice command on the TSX is a little different than the same function on my Accord... when you push the button to talk in the Accord, the beep is immediate and you can give the command. However in the TSX, there is a slight delay before it beeps.... just enough to clip off your first word if you're used to the Nav in the Accord. But the TSX seems to be able to map routes a little quicker, so I guess there were some updates in the software.

I am looking at buying from either Vandergriff or Churchill. Have not got the same deal you got. Been quoted $26,000. Any advice?
  • hoopdan21hoopdan21 Member Posts: 2
I am beginning to look at buying in the Dallas area. I have been told that the supply is limited and prices, therefore, are not very negotiable. I have been quoted about $1,200 off sticker for a non-navi, auto. I really don't have to have the car until April/May. Would it be better to wait? Will supply pick up or be less given the end of the model year?

Does anyone have any information experiences relating to the purchase of a used TSX? I am 25 years old and this will be my first car purchase. I have driven a Toyota Celica since I was 16 (it now has 152,000 miles and counting). Any tips that you feel might help a first time buyer like myself would be most appreciated.
  • carsjwincarsjwin Member Posts: 12
North Carolina/Virginia TSX buyers speak out!

Thx Rueshan for the tips. I hope that everybody in NC fights these $400 document fees all the way, or these dealers will continue geting away with murder.

Has anybody out there had any experience with the Winston-Salem Acura dealer? They seem to have the best quotes of the North Carolina dealers, and also lower than Richmond, VA. Will probably drive out there soon but would like to hear others' experience.
  • ceeececeeece Member Posts: 14
I am from Cary, NC. But I bought a 2004 certified TSX with Nav in Johnson City, TN last Sat. I wonder if the $400 document fee is related to NC in general or just brand new cars? I didn't have a $400 document fee tacked on that I remember. But after perusing some other car dealerships and this site, I may have paid too much for a car with 26,900 miles on it. Sticker was also $26,900. With trade in it was $24,100.

First car: Most Acura dealers sell Certified Pre-Owned cars. They go through a 150 pt. process to make sure the car is in practically new condition. The prices aren't that much cheaper than new though. I would buy from an Acura dealer and not individual.

I am from Raleigh, NC and I just got a 2005 TSX AT w/o NAV in artic blue. Total OTD price was $27600.50 $26350 base + 398 documentation + 62 tag fee + 3 percent tax =$27600.50 One dealer offered to matched the deal, but most dealers rejected. How do you guys think I did? They have to bring the care from other state I believe.

I was wondering if the Edmunds TMV price is with or without tax....According to the TMV price for the '05 TSX (auto) in my area (Miami, FL), it shows $27560- that's $2388 over dealer invoice (taking into account the destination charge of $570)....Sounds like alot to me! Basically I want to have the right idea of what I can ask for without being unfair. Thanks for any advice!
  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
TMV is without tax and other fees - the car and destination only. TMV would be a useless number if it did.
  • enya18enya18 Member Posts: 19
So then $2388 over dealer invoice doesn't seem to steep to anyone?
  • indydriverindydriver Member Posts: 620
That's basically MSRP for a non-navi. Most posters here are getting $1000-$2000 off MSRP. I think you can do better.
  • ronabironabi Member Posts: 39
I bought a white, non-nav AT at Vandergriff last week for invoice ($25,171) with lifetime tint and wheel locks thrown in at no charge. (See post #1108 for my story.) However, I think that price may no longer be available since the metroplex dealers were competing for volume dealer recognition and were making unusually good deals near year end to achieve that.

The dealer most competitive with Vandergriff was Goodson in Irving. Neither Churchhill nor David McDavid (in Plano) were as aggressive in their pricing. I had made it clear to Vandergriff that Goodson was offering a good price and that if the trade offer didn't improve considerable, I would be talking with them again. I think that the good deals available in DFW area of late were a result both of the competition for recognition and also the competition arising from having four dealers vying for the same market. At least the second of those factors should still be in place.

So, good luck on your deal. $26,000 isn't bad, but by bringing Goodson into play, you might be able to get an even better deal. Let us know what happens.
  • ronabironabi Member Posts: 39
After replying to your earlier post, I read this one and decided to add another comment. The "supply is limited" rationale may well be valid because I know they sold a lot of cars last week. However, the $26,000 quote you cited before is better than $1200 off sticker -- I think that would be $1560 below sticker, assuming delivery is included. Also, I think Vandergriff routinely offers the tint and wheel locks as part of the deal, and those together are worth around $250 which would make your actual discount about $1800. Watch out for the finance guy during closing, however. He'll try to sell you a lot of very expensive -- and I think grossly overpriced -- additional services. Good luck!

    Hello,

I purchased a Silver Blk TSX 6 speed in Atlanta for $26,121 + $400 doc fee. Edmunds is closer to sticker. I think it is possible to even get a better deal than this.

    Car is fun to drive.

Also, if you can contact dealers over the Internet, reduces your hassle.
  • carsjwincarsjwin Member Posts: 12
With all due respect to this Edmunds website which I love and is incredibly valuable, I do think that the TMV is really doing TSX buyers a disservice b/c on more than one occasion a salesman has cited the TMV as a reason for why they can't go any lower, even going so far as to pull up this website on the spot...but it's so obvious from this forum that they are actually selling for way less.

Is there a way to get this corrected or updated??
  • uncledaviduncledavid Member Posts: 548
If I were you, I would give that salesperson you phone number, and ask him to give you a ring if he thinks he can go lower.
  • Kirstie_HKirstie_H Administrator Posts: 11,242
TMV is average, not the best possible price. Dealers know this, and they'd rather you pay average than below average price. uncledavid provided some very sound advice - if they say there's no possibility of purchasing below TMV, give them your phone number, smile, shake hands, and ask them to call if they change their minds.

Do you have 6MTs on the ground in NJ?

Here's the deal. My dealer offered me $7,500 for my trade in and the sticker on the 05 TSX auto/no nav is about $27,700. I will be paying cash and am wondering how much I should offer. I do not really have the patience for negotiating and want to write a check for around $19,000 and say "Take it or leave it." Does anyone think that this is realistic? Any suggestions woudl be greatly appreciated since I am planning on purchasing a vehicle within the next 48 hours. Finally, in case your wondering, I am in the Chicago area.
  • ronabironabi Member Posts: 39
That depends on whether $7500 is a fair trade-in price for your car. When I traded (in the Dallas area) two weeks ago, the dealer offered $7000 which was $1300 under book for that car. After negotiation I actually got $8450 or $1450 more than the original offer. I'd say that the first thing to do is check Kelly Blue Book for a reasonable trade-in value. Be sure to list all of the equipment and make a realistic judgment on the condition of the car.

There were some really good prices available in this area before year end, and my deal was for invoice ($25,171) minus the trade-in plus TTL. I seriously doubt that you could get anywhere close to that deal now. If $7500 is a fair trade price, that plus $19,000 (plus TTL)is an effective price of $26,500 which is probably not bad at this point in time, although you might try for $26,000. That said, I have no feel for the market in Chicago, so my recommendation regarding determining a fair trade-in price may be the only one worth paying any attention to. Perhaps in Chicago, in mid-January, $26,500 is a great price. You might want to check back through several day's posts for any information from Chicago. If there is more than one dealer there, let them compete for your business. That was a major factor in my deal.

Good luck! Let us know what happens.
  • ryan5ryan5 Member Posts: 2
Thanks for the information ronabi. The $7,500 seems like a pretty fair value. Bluebook said it would be worth $7,600-8,100 since it falls somewhere between excellent and good condition. Basically, I'm hoping that a check for $20,000 plus my trade would cover everything. Anyone think that it is a realistic possibility? Also, does anyone know if paying cash can get you a better deal? I mean will the dealers be more willing to lower the price if they know that they are getting a large sum of money right there on the spot? Thanks in advance.

I had just purchased a 2005 tsx over the weekend. carbon grey pearl/ebony/navi/auto. purchased for $27900 at gillman acura in houston. negotiated price via email with the internet sales guy. i had originally asked for $27500.

first time buying experience, and it wasn't too bad at all. got to the dealership saturday morning, they were washing and waxing the car. they had the paperwork all ready for me, spent about 15-20 minutes going over the paperwork and signing and another 30 minutes with the loan officer. also fielded offers from sterling mccall, champion gulf, john eagle in houston, sterling acura, david mcdavid in austin, and gunn acura in san antonio.

Does anybody have any experience with buying two of the same car? I have an offer of $25,600 on a non-navi, but have a friend who is looking at the same car. Do you think we could get a better deal if we went in together and offered to buy two?
  • upndwnupndwn Member Posts: 44
May I please hear from those who have had good experiences, especially recent ones, in the above area. What dealer did you use? Internet manager or sales person? Any special advice? Thanks.

In my area, I am having trouble finding a dealer that even has a TSX. A couple of dealers have my name on a list to call when they come in so I can test drive one, (although I drove one in the Fall).

I asked a dealer the other day about getting a particular transmission, color combination with navigation. I was told that she could get one with several weeks to work with. Also, she is looking for full MSRP.

There are posts on the Edmund's Acura boards that seem to prove that regional supply conditions have great effect on how good a deal can be realized. I am willing to contact dealers within 250 miles providing that they are familiar with getting a vehicle registered in my home state.

    Thanks for any advice.

New '05 TSX w/Nav owners, can you tell me how up-to-date your nav system database seems to be? I just bought my '05 on 12/23/04 and I'm pretty disappointed. The nav system info doesn't seem to be very recent. It looks like there may be an updated DVD available. But why didn't my brand new TSX have the latest DVD already in it?! I'm not very happy about shelling out $185+ to have the more recent database.

Have any of you run across this? Have you contacted the dealer where you purchased? Will they give you a new DVD?
  • ceeececeeece Member Posts: 14
I bought an '04 TSX on Jan 1 of this year. The Nav disc says it is Version 1. The version advertised through the Acura Owner's link is like Version 3.4 or something like that (and yes $185). My dealer (Bill Gatton in Tennessee) told me the updates are free for life. I called him about the $185 disc update on the internet and he said he would get back to me. I haven't heard from him yet and it has been two weeks. I'll let you know what I find out. I agree, the NAV definately needs updated.

Hey, it was fun. Brand new (2 miles) black on black. I only drove it for 15 suburban (but twisty) miles. The seat is snug but not objectionably tight for my 6'-4", 230 lb frame. Ride was controlled but not harsh. I managed to induce some understeer on a roundabout (never felt any stability control kick-in). I was a little surprised that the clutch action and shifter wasn't lighter and faster after all the glowing reviews in the mags. The clutch engagement point seemed a little vague and the shifter a little notchy. The gear ratios, especially 2-3 and 3-4 seemed very close together, almost as though you don't drop any revs when you shift. The engine was certainly flexible and doesn't complain when you lug it down to 1,000 RPM in gear. Overall impression: very entertaining to drive, hopefully a little more experience with this tranny and I can drive it smoother.

HAVE TO MEET A DEALER TOMORROW. DEALER SAYS I NEED TO DEPOSIT SOME MONEY, 500 USD AND CAR WILL BE THERE IN 3 DAYS, GUARANTEED.

    1. WE HAVE AGREED ON AN OUT THE DOOR PRICE.

    2. DELEAR SAYS APR WILL BE OFFERED ONLY AFTER THE BUYER'S PAPERWORK.

    3. I KNOW THE BOTTOMLINE ON APR THAT I AM WILLING TO OFFER.

    QUESTIONS;

    1. IF AFTER SIGNING THE UNDERSTANDING AND GIVING A DEPOSIT, I DO NOT AGREE ON THE APR, WILL I STILL BE ABLE TO WALK OUT?

    2. HOW SHOULD I MAKE SURE THAT I GET THE MONEY BACK IF I M NOT CONVINCED AFTER THEY TELL ME THE APR
    3. WHAR CARE SHOULD I TAKE TO GET THIS DEAL

    THANKS.

    jogee,

I have '05 TSX with Nav and bought it on the same day you did. I have version 3.40A. Version 3.40B is the most up to date version according the the nav upgrade web site. I too am upset that I do not have the most current version. The web site says that version 3.40B would be available in DEC. 2004. i plan on calling my dealer tomorrow to see if I can get the update for free.

Under no circumstances should you sign anything or pay a deposit until you have a clear agreement on EVERY aspect of your deal. One of the oldest tricks in the book is to attempt to make you think you are in a time squeeze. Time is one of the most important tools in any negotiation. As the buyer, you control the time element. You have nothing but time. Your only downside in this whole situation is that he could sell the car out from under you and you'd have to find another one. But, no conscientious dealer would do that with a serious buyer like you. Based on your one post, I would be inclined to find another dealer, or if you really want to do business with this one, go to the GM and complain about this salesman's tactics, explain YOUR needs and YOUR groundrules and that you want to start over with another salesman or this serious buyer is going to walk! This is their last chance to save your business! Then, if you have to walk out the door, walk.
