I hate to say this.. I've been looking for a good used deal for about 2-3 months now. I'm at the point of just walking into the dealership and buying a new 05 non-nav
  • saviosavio Member Posts: 12
Well I test drove and I like the car. I like all the amenities that comes with the car. I asked for information through the internet and got an email back from the internet manager. He already gave me a quote of $27000 out the door. I told him that I have a figure and mind as well as other dealerships and looking to get back to him. This is at the Hendrick Acura in Charlotte, NC.

What should I reply to him with? the price I want and the "extras" as well as others around the surrounding area?
  • indydriverindydriver Member Posts: 620
Tell him since his boss won the Daytona 500, you'll support his dealership by buying a car from him....for $500 less!

I think I have posted in this before but I have been browsing other dealerships and price quotes others have gotten and wonder if I got a bad deal.

I bought a silver 2004 TSX auto w/ Nav on Jan 1 of this year for $26,900. It had 26,900 miles on it too (ironic). Anyway, I see a dealership in another city has a 2004 TSX auto w/ Nav, same color and interior with 16,000 miles for $26,995. Makes me wonder if the price I paid was too high considering the one I bought had 10,000 more miles on it. It is too late now, I know, but if anyone has any insite to put my mind at ease I would appreciate it. Thanks.

The invoice is $25,172 but there is a $810 dealer holdback so wholesale is $24,368
  • chiefjschiefjs Member Posts: 39
I am in Massachusetts and I received a quote of $28,000 with 3.2 financing for a 2005 TSX Auto with Navigation. The wholesale price is $26,123 so that is a 7.5% profit.

Does anyone think this is a good deal?

Invoice price is $26,993... Not sure where your $26,123 number comes from..

    $28000 looks okay to me..

"Invoice price is $26,993... Not sure where your $26,123 number comes from."

The $26,123 comes from an $870 dealer holdback. So his wholsale cost is $26,123.

On the 21st I got a quote on 2005 w/navi for 27,100. not including tax, tag, destination. This LA internet manager said he lots of models in stock and was very eager to move them.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 265,681
Well... there is holdback... But, I haven't heard of any Acura dealers dipping into it to sell TSXs..

Either way.. $1000 over invoice on a new '05 looks good to me...

Just got an email quote for a 2005 auto/non-nav with three extras the dealer said were already on the car (splash guards, trunk liner, wheel locks) for $27,200, tax not included. If my math is right, that looks like roughly a $1600 profit for the dealer. With Indiana's inventory tax due on all cars remaining on the lot on March 1, dealers are supposed to be anxious to move their inventory. Am I right to be unimpressed?

Are there any NEW 04s left on the lots or are they all sold?
  • flatsoflatso Member Posts: 24
    Hi everyone
I am currently considering a 2004 with 8900 miles purchased last May with nav body, factory body kit, and fog lights, floor mats in addition to the carpeted ones, and a trunk liner/tray for $25K. It is in excellent shape. Do you all think this is a good deal?
  • rko2rko2 Member Posts: 40
Trading a car in to a dealer can be very beneficial. If they are close to a private sale price, you will save on tax too. Punkless saved almost $600 in taxes in the new car...I would say it was a good deal.
  • punklesspunkless Member Posts: 3
Thanks Kenji! I thought that was a major benefit as well.

    Sounds like good deal.

May I ask which dealer in LA? I'm interested getting one soon for myself.

    Thanks,

I think that is a bargain. May I ask which dealership is that? Hopfully it is located in Los Angeles area....

Here is the copy of the email i got from Acura of Glendale:

    Thank you for your inquiry.

Between now and the end of this month, I will sell any TSX automatic with navigation that we have in stock for $27,100 plus tax, license, dmv and CA tire recycling fee.  Everything else is included in this price.

Pretty sweet deal huh.? Too bad I'm not buying until June.....
  • indydriverindydriver Member Posts: 620
Yes you should be unimpressed. I know exactly which dealer you are talking about and they are not very aggressive. Do you live in the Indy area?
  • jeffcoopjeffcoop Member Posts: 5
Yes, I live in Zionsville. I got a much better quote--$25,750, not including tax--from another dealer. Off to talk to them tomorrow.
  • mhsiehmhsieh Member Posts: 3
Checkd with couple Acura dealers in LA area. They told me that this is below cost. Is this real or what? Which state/city is this dealer located?

Let me know how your deal works out. I have a car on order with dealer A but I haven't committed any dollars yet, so we really haven't sat down to finalize a deal. One of my biggest problems is that the two Indy area dealers only keep one (if that) 6MT on their lots. I'm also corresponding with Chicago area dealers. They are discounting but not like they were at the end of last year. Right now, I think (hope) I can work a local dealer to a final price very close to the email quotes I'm seeing out of Chicago.
  • lmacmillmacmil Member Posts: 1,758
"I'm also corresponding with Chicago area dealers."

Which Chicago dealers? Only one I've gotten a response from is Continental Acura in Naperville (I requested quotes via the Acura website and heard nothing). His opening offer for non-nav 6MT was $26850 (this was before the recent $200 price increase). I asked him for lease quote and the price he gave me was based on MSRP so he either thought I was stupid or he's not willing to get serious unless I come in (I'm 110 miles away.)

I wonder if Acura is limiting 6MTs to keep the price up or if they have just underestimated the demand? They're making it so difficult I may end up going with a TL or G35.
  • indydriverindydriver Member Posts: 620
I got an internet quote from Libertyville. It's a little better than your quote above but not so good I can't negotiate it locally. I don't want to post actual quotes while I'm negotiating because they watch this board too. Acura must have been really pushing the dealers to sell in Dec. because I've noticed a big difference in their willingness to deal since then. Message to Chicago dealers--if you want the "plus" business from out of state customers, you need to save me at least $500 to make the hassle worthwhile.
  • lmacmillmacmil Member Posts: 1,758
Btw, the internet manager at Fort Wayne Acura seems really nice but it is a smaller dealership and doesn't have much inventory. Only 4 TSXes currently, all auto. He told me the MT models don't stay on the lot long. For service work, both the Infiniti and Acura dealers (both owned by Bob Rohrman) in Fort Wayne will pickup one of their vehicles in South Bend, leave a loaner, then return it after the work is done. Pretty nice perk and will probably make me do business with them if I buy new or lease.
  • kenji4861kenji4861 Member Posts: 16
Body Kit + Fog Light on ebay or something will be at around $1000. So let's say $24k for a 2004 TSX with 8900. If it has Nav - yes it's a "fair" deal. with no nav.. I'd say no.

Are you looking at the one on ebay?
  • jeffcoopjeffcoop Member Posts: 5
I have a tentative deal with one of the two Indianapolis-area dealers, but I have to say I have a bad taste in my mouth. See what you think:

I had contacted the internet manager and received a quote of $25,750. In my original email, I had specified that I would not buy a black, red, or white car. When I arrived at the dealer early this morning, the only car they had in stock was a white demo. They insisted I drive it, even though I told them I'd already test-driven a TSX at another dealer, even though a test drive would necessitate transferring my three-year-old son's carseat to the demo car (which, as it turned out, upset him greatly). When I continued to insist that I would not buy a white car, I was told that they could find one for me at another dealer.

I then sat down with a salesman (not the internet guy, who was with another customer). First thing he did was put down $700 for add-ons I don't want. They're already on the car, he said. I argued with him briefly but got nowhere. Suddenly my great price didn't look so great. I got a decent interest rate but a low offer for my trade-in (although not much lower than I'd expected). Still, under the influence of new-car delirium, I put down a deposit and took my son out to my car.

As I was getting ready to start the car, the salesman came running out. They might have a carbon gray one in the back, he said; would I give him a few minutes to check? I did. A few minutes later, he came back out. No mention of the gray car supposedly in the back; instead, he said that he'd contacted a wholesaler who wanted my current car. Would I be willing to leave it and take an MSX loaner for the weekend? Pointing out that my son had reacted badly once to having his carseat moved, I declined. The salesman said he'd get back to me later in the afternoon to let me know if he'd found a car for me.

I didn't hear from the salesman all afternoon. Shortly before six, when the dealership closed, I called. He said he hadn't had time to do a search for me (which is semi-plausible--with Indiana's inventory tax due for all cars unsold as of March 1, today was essentially the weekend before Christmas for car dealers in the state). He said he'd call me on Monday morning.

In the meantime, though, I'd started to reflect on my visit to the dealership. And it occurred to me, as it hadn't at the time, that the effort to get me out of my car and into a loaner for the weekend was almost certainly a ruse, an effort to put me in a position where I would be potentially carless on Monday and therefore might be persuaded to buy a white car after all. The more I think about it, the slimier it seems. At this point, unless I get a very positive message early on Monday, I'm inclined to back out. What do you think?
  • flatsoflatso Member Posts: 24
no it's through a private seller. At that price level with quotes from dealers for ones with nav going for $27300 I wonder if it would be better to go new?
  • lmacmillmacmil Member Posts: 1,758
"...the effort to get me out of my car and into a loaner for the weekend was almost certainly a ruse, an effort to put me in a position where I would be potentially carless on Monday..."

Let's see, they don't have time to find the color TSX you want but they've got time to find a buyer for your trade? If your trade is so desirable, then they ought to be able to offer you more, at least $700 more to offset the dealer add-ons you don't want.

What do I think? I think what you think: slimy. However, given that Monday is the last day of the month, I think you may be in the driver's seat to negotiate yourself a better deal. Good luck.
  • indydriverindydriver Member Posts: 620
Ah, a visit to the southside, eh? That white TSX has been sitting there a long time and I'm sure they are nearly desperate to move it. If you could accept a white TSX, I'm sure you could just about name your price on that one. I'm kind of on hold for now. I ordered exactly what I wanted in early Jan. knowing I don't need it delivered until April. Within the last week I was advised of a March 7 build date and "about 30 days thereafter to deliver from Japan". I did NOT put anything down to get exactly what I wanted on order, marked "sold" on the order sheet so another dealer doesn't steal it out from under me. Of course, I still have to work out an acceptable deal....Oh,yes, one other thing, I gave explicit instructions (backed up by confirmed email) that no dealer add-ons were acceptable without my express written agreement.
  • jeffcoopjeffcoop Member Posts: 5
Indydriver, you ordered a car but didn't agree on price? I hope I'm wrong, but that sounds like you're asking for trouble.
  • indydriverindydriver Member Posts: 620
Maybe, but if my deal falls apart, I've got nothing committed and will be free to look elsewhere. The dealer has some leverage in that he knows he has exactly what I want. I have more leverage because I can and will walk away if things don't go my way. So, I've lost nothing. On the other hand, you've given a dealer $700, have no idea where your car is coming from and only have a promise for a lousy deal on your trade. No offense, but, I like my position better than yours.
  • jeffcoopjeffcoop Member Posts: 5
Well, sure, I'm in a bad spot. But I can always stop payment on the check first thing tomorrow morning.

Too much about this doesn't feel right.
  • indydriverindydriver Member Posts: 620
Actually, 25,750 before add-ons is a pretty good price. Remember, of the three add-ons, two can be lifted right out of the trunk which would reduce that if you want. Although, I think the trunk liner is probably a desirable accessory. The real issue of course, is where are they going to get your car? What color combo do you want? Another thing to remember about dealer trades is that most all surrounding states require front license plates and those dealers automatically mount the brackets as part of their dealer prep. You should tell Hubler that under no circumstances will you accept delivery of a front bracket car or one that has had the bumper repaired.

Just bought a black & parchment non-nav 5sp auto at the end of January at the south dealer in Indy for my wife. They don't like to come off sticker, but did have letter for $1,500 above KBB on trade since have owned a CL since Aug. 1996. Did get full $1,500 above KBB but had to argue and of course they had their add on's of $600 which we split the cost on. Don't really know if it was a great deal, but I was happy. For service I prefer the south dealer, but I don't like either one for sales. It's a fantastic car and meets all our needs and it's fun to drive as a car should be.

I test drove a TSX last week and loved it, but it all depends if Acura will offer any incentive financing. I know they offered 2.9% in December, but does anyone know if they offered it any other time last year? I have 2 months to go on my current lease and want to buy this time and I am keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks, Jim
  • lmacmillmacmil Member Posts: 1,758
Any current offers are available on the Acura website. Select "shopping" from the main page. current offers are only for MDX, NSX, and RSX. Given that the TSX is selling beyond expectations, I doubt you'll see any incentives.
  • laineylainey Member Posts: 62
Any ideas when the new models are set for release? There are about 15 new 2004's at local dealers and a pretty decent inventory of the 2005's. I'm hoping the '06's will be out soon and drive the prices down. So far the lowest offer I have is $500 over invoice on an '05 auto non-navi metallic. Unsure whether this is a good offer. I think it is. All the web-sites I've been obsessing over have invoice at $25,354. I don't know if this is flat or metallic paint. Another dealer said dealer cost from the factory is exactly $25,570.76 for every single dealer. Any thoughts on that?? I don't know if he means Texas only. I'm perfectly willing to drive 2 hours to one of the three nearby states if I can find it for less. I noticed something curious...half of the build and price sites no longer have invoice price listed, including Edmunds. They all had the information last week. Is invoice changing?

Just purchased a 05 TSX (6 sp manual, no NAV) in Portland, OR. Paid $26120 out of the door, including the "Nothwest package" (rubber matt, trunk tray, wheel lock) and I am really impressed by the engine and the handling of this car.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 265,681
Your dealer has 15 leftover '04 TSXs? Are they new or used? That seems awfully strange..

Metallic paint is not an extra-cost option on a TSX.. All non-NAV TSXs have the same MSRP and invoice...

KBB shows invoice of $25,172 for an '05. I'd say that is accurate, unless there has been some sort of mid-year price increase..

Any feedback on the price paid wold be appreciated?

Post your price without taxes and the accessories. OTD means nothing to us if those items are included.
  • laineylainey Member Posts: 62
I believe the dealership just got them in from other regional dealerships. They sent me an email last wednesday advising of 16 new '04 TSX's, 5 TL's and 6 RL's. The mileage all under 50. What's strange is that they were selling the TSX's for 24,988+ttl non-navi and 25,988+ttl navi, both certified. I told them that it did not seem like much of a deal because the 05's have a few more gadgets (power pass seat, heated side mirrors, XM, illuminated steering wheel controls) and was about the same price. They tried to tell me that I should be thankful for the extra year warranty and that it was such a great deal, bla bla bla. They were unwilling to budge on price even after I told them I had an offer of $500 over '05 invoice.

Why are you "obsessing" over this, when you already have a great deal on a 2005, & people here are telling you there's probably something flakey with all those '04's????

$500 over invoice is a GREAT price for this car. Forget about the '04s. If you don't want it, buy it for me and I'll come to Texas to pick it up!

    Hello,

I am looking to buy a 2005 TSX. I have been trying to get quotes via the computer but I am finding that most dealers are not wanting to work with me. I am currently stationed in Japan and will be moving to Virginia in 2 weeks and would like to start working a deal.
The dealers that did respond, said that the cars we in such high demand that they could not give me a quote this far out? Does anyone have any suggestions or know where I can get a good deal in the VA area? Thanks for your help!

    Hi,
I just purchased a 2005 TSX Carbon Gray with Navi for $27,843 in the DFW area which is $1,717 off MSRP and $850 above invoice.
Was that a good price to have paid?
