Well, I called after work again, and no one called me back. I think they realized that they can't do it, or this was the "low balling" offer, I took them up on it, and they backed out. Not a very professional way to conduct business. I had my hopes up for nothing. Back to monitoring stage. :(

Could a dealer pull an April's fool joke early? Like a day early?

Some advice please..Should I negotiate the car price first, then tell them the accessories I want? I am going to want the spoiler, door guards, moonroof visor and window visors. The spoiler retails for over $500.

You are better off getting all of the accessories down in writing first, and make clear that any offers include those accessories..

Otherwise, you end up negotiating a good deal, and after you have the car, they want to charge you list price for everything else..

Be advised that many TSX buyers have gotten the "protection package" thrown in at no charge. The package includes all-weather mats, trunk tray, mud flaps, and wheel locks.

We negotiated our price for the car over the phone, knowing that we would make a stink over the car when we went to pick it up and insist they throw in the all-weather mats and trunk tray. Those were the only accessories we wanted, and we got them thrown in when we picked up the car.

After looking at several cars during my search the last few months, the TSX is the only one that turns my head every time.

I'm hoping for a '05 Satin Silver/Ebony/Auto/Non-Navi (although I also like the Meteor Silver). I'm ready to buy now or no later than Memorial Day weekend. I understand $25.5k is about an average selling price before TT&L and dealer fees. Is this doable? My only delay in buying is financing incentives. In the past, I've always purchased cars and gotten rates of 0.9% and 1.9%, respectively. I'm new to Honda/Acura and am aware Acura rarely offers these rates...especially for a hot seller. A co-worker purchased a TSX with 2.9% apr during Memorial Day weekend last year. They also offered this rate during the end of 2004. Is it reasonable to think American Honda Financing will offer a similar incentive this Memorial Weekend? Or should I just buy now?

Also, I'm in South Florida. Does anyone have good dealer experiences to share for the area?

Theres only one acura dealer in the monterey bay in seaside and when I checked out to see what they had in their lot there was like only 1 car for each model. I just happened to stop by while my gf was at a toyota dealer. Should I just work with the dealers in the bay area up north since it seems there will be more competition since theres many dealers in that one area?

I just bought an '05 Silver TSX, No Nav, Auto, Ebony leather, wheel locks for $25,800 + TTL out the door for $27,466 at Acura of South Florida. It had 7 miles on it. Do the Autobytel - the internet manager is honest and provided good service. The whole transaction took less than 2 hours including negotiation and all the paperwork.

Anyone looking for this combination in the Indianapolis area, I just backed out on this car scheduled to arrive at Ed Martin Acura this week.

I just bought a 2005 Acura TSX this past Saturday 4/2/2005. I am pleased with the car and also the deal that I made. I bought the car in Wayne, NJ (northern NJ) for $25,519. I negotiated for 4% up from wholesale and after visiting a couple dealers, I got the price I wanted. This included destination charge, premium package, w/ out navigation system. I also traded in my car, so the bottom line cost was $25, 119. The MSRP at the dealership was $27,760. However, after reading Edmunds book and also getting the wholesale price from Edmunds and Consumer Report, I knew that I could negotiate a good price after finding out the wholesale price. Also, it helped that I had a few dealerships that I was negotiating with. The TMV in this area is around $27,000. I am happy with what I paid. It's a great car. Best of luck to you!

good price but you should have gotten the navigation...it is great

    Good deal Graia!

May I ask you when did you make your purchase from Acura of S. FL? Were they willing to negotiate the finance rate?

    Thanks!

A few days ago. I didn't ask about financing since I paid cash, but I bet these guys will work with you.

Southern CA is flooded with loaner Cert TSX with less than 10k miles. I purchased one a month ago for 22700 from south bay acura. If you live in the area you should have no problem finding one for about 23k. Check acura internet site for inventory. You can use 90027 if you do not live the area to check inventory.

I am shopping for a TSX and when I went to the dealer, he offered me $26,560 on the auto w/out navi. before taxes.

    Is this a good deal?

what do you think I can get him to??
  • manavimanavi Member Posts: 150
That deal sucks. The price should be about $1000 lower. But, I would suggest negotiating on the OTD price, not the price before taxes and fees.
  • laineylainey Member Posts: 62
I agree. Not a great deal. I have been offered the auto non-navi for invoice without negotiating ($25,553 includes dest.). I possibly can get it for less using the 3% of MSRP holdback. Or I may just tell them I want some freebies added or both. Not sure yet. That's good advice manavi to negotiate the OTD. I've noticed loan rates went up over the weekend (along with those insane fuel prices!), so that's a great approach for me. Easier to figure out payments using loan calculators. Or...Plan B...Wait for my '05 until July/August dealer push when the 06's are on the horizon. :shades:

Not a good deal. I just purchased an automatice 2005 TSX last Saturday for $25,510 which included destination fee. I didn't get the nav. system. The only fees I paid thereafter was taxes (6% for NJ) and plates. That was 4% above wholesale. Good deal.

I'm considering getting a TSX, and possiblely an MDX at the same time (figuring a dealer will deal better on two cars than just one..)

However, we only have one Acura dealer in SE wisconsin, so I am thinking of going 90 miles south and having my pick from the 8 or so dealers in the Chicago metro area.

Has anyone bought out of state before and what is the deal with taxes when you do this?

Will the Illinios dealers charge me Wisconsin tax as the car will be registered there, or will I be charge IL tax and then have to adjust for it?

    Thanks, Kerry.

The general rule is that you pay sales tax where you register the vehicle. I don't know of any state that's different, but you can check out our Vehicle Sales Tax Questions discussion for more info.

I live outside DC in Maryland and was just quoted an out the door price of $27885 on a 2005 TSX non-navi. This includes all taxes and fees. I also just requested a breakdown to see where they got the total from.

I was just wondering if anyone else in the area has been pricing this car and if this is somewhere in the ballpark for what I should expect to pay. At this price, should I ask them to throw in the protection package? Is there anything else negotiable that I should ask for? (oil changes for XX,XXX miles, etc.) I talked with one dealer who said they could offer 4.25% financing. I am planning on asking them to match the 3.9% they are currently offering on used cars as well. Any thoughts?
  • bsum70bsum70 Member Posts: 37
Tried to neg price on one today. I offered them $26,100 (incl protection package and spoiler) plus dest fee and TTL. Is that a fair offer? I also get a 1994 Accord 5 sp (223000 miles on it) for trade it, they offer me $400.
The offer I get from them is $26,600 (with spoiler and mud guard only) or $26,100 (protection package minus spoiler).
    What do you all think?

Anyone know what the breakdown is of navi vs non-navi TSX's imported? I'm interested in navi and will not make a purchase til the summer but don't want to come up short when looking for a 2005.
  • peterdh2000peterdh2000 Member Posts: 54
don't know where you are, but sell that accord on your own. someone will pay you way more than $400 for it and it won't save you much to trade it in (taxes, etc).

Hello, I'm in the market for a 2004 tsx and am looking to go ahead and buy one this summer. Any advice or words of wisdom to pass along? DO you suggest a dealer, private person, or either? I have researched the car and seen the ads for 2004's but will be fiancially ready this summer. Anyone happen to know of a tsx that will be for sale in 4 months?

    Thanks. :)
  • manavimanavi Member Posts: 150
I know of lots of TSX's that will be for sale in 4 months. They're all at your local Acura dealer.

Seriously though, I would recommend a 2005 TSX over a 2004 because there were some really nice additions to the 2005 TSX including a power passenger seat, XM satellite radio, heated side mirrors, and lighted steering wheel controls.
  • meg9713meg9713 Member Posts: 21
I would love to go for the 2005, but I think we're talking too much money. The 2004 I am looking for is probably all I can afford. Do you feel that the best deal will be at the Acura dealership or private party? I feel that dealerships increase prices and don't negotiate as much, but I guess it all just depends.

    Also....it takes premium....which # is that...89 ot 91?

    Thanks
  • copseyalcopseyal Member Posts: 36
Premium according to the manual is 91 Octane or higher. I have a 2004, and it is a great car. Agreed that the 2005 has some nice additions, but nothing that you will miss if you've never had previously. Referring to the post earlier on this thread who was buying in MD, my out the door price on a 2004 Non Navi was $26,700. I know the 2005's are priced slightly different, but just wanted to give you a point of reference.

I am looking at both a TSX with Navigation and a Honda Accord EC V6 with navigation. I was quoted $24,995 plus TTL for the Accord. The first quote I have for the TSX is $28, 490 plus TTL are these good deals?
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 265,659
The Accord deal is good.. The TSX deal is too high.. You should be at least $800 less on the Acura..

    Hi,

Can anyone explain protection package? Can it be waived?

    Thanks in advance.
  • johnny420johnny420 Member Posts: 473
The protection package usually includes all-weather floor mats (rubber), trunk tray, mud guards and wheel locks. It is a dealer-installed add-on. It is not waived. You either agree to purchase it, or you don't.

That said, most TSX buyers get it thrown in for free with the purchase of the car. It is nice to have, especially the floor mats. If you're considering the TSX, insist to the dealer that he throw it in at no charge to you.

You're bound to get the better price from a private party than from a dealer. But, the dealer has two big advantages you should consider:

    1) They have the car available and you know where to find them;

    2) They usually offer you a good warranty on a CPO (Certified Pre-Owned) car. I think it's a 100K mile warranty.

But, if you can find a private party that happens to be trying to sell the car you want, you could get a really good deal. And, I don't know how important the 100K mile warranty is since Acura's tend to have excellent reliability.

hi im going to indiana this summer and gona go there 4 school , i was thinkin about getting the TSX at first but than the TL seems nice too...im not sure wheater i should get used or new..but i think i would get certified used cars..so can someone tell me what problems i might be facing also what prices i should be getting these 2 cars at thanks...
ps. i was also checking out the MBenz C-class...and G35, also the WRX
  • manavimanavi Member Posts: 150
How did a WRX get in there with those other cars?

If you really like the WRX, I would say go for it and save yourself at least $5,000. Or, better yet, maybe you should take a look at the Saab 9-2X. That's basically a loaded WRX wagon and it is selling at HUGE discounts.

Well, I hate to say this but what does a college student need with a car as nice as an Acura? I rode a bicycle through 8 years of college.
  • manavimanavi Member Posts: 150
Does that mean everyone should ride a bicycle in college?

I am getting a min quote of 27850 on a 2005 TSX w/ nav. I am not in the final stage of negotiating as yet, but will be there in a week. Considering that I am in central Texas, can anyone comment on the quote?

    Thanks :)
  • nyernyer Member Posts: 32
Started getting quotes from dealers here on Long Island. I received 3 quotes so far. One for $28K, one for $27,995 and one for $27,925. Includes everything except taxes and tags. I want to go back to the dealer who offered $27,925 and say $27,500. I think this gets done and is reasonable, since I read recently in this forum that an '05 auto TSX/no Navi was purchased outside the NY area for $25,500. Also, I would have to wait about 4 to 6 weeks for delivery, but I have a car now I am going to sell privately. In addition, none of the dealers know of any material changes or anything specific about the 2006 model to be released in September. If anyone knows anything it would be helpful. I may just wait until then if worth it. Any thoughts or opinions about my potential price to be paid is appreciated.
  • barry70barry70 Member Posts: 20
Hey - we are in the same boat (I am in NYC). You can get $27,500, but not on LI probably is what I've found. Try NJ or Westchester if you are willing to travel. What color combo are you looking for? Mine is very hard to find and is my main issue currently.
  • nyernyer Member Posts: 32
I'll give it a shot. Think that ballpark is a fair price. I am looking to get the satin silver with the ebony interior.
  • barry70barry70 Member Posts: 20
I am looking for Carbon Grey with Quartz interior. Definitely challenging!! Good luck!!
  • piggydogpiggydog Member Posts: 5
emailed back and forth many places and got 24,900 + TTL. I don't think I'll get any of the extras others have gotten like wheel locks, rubber floormats etc. Is this a good deal because I know many have got it at invoice that includes the protection package. I'm still looking at other cars but I'm wondering if this is a great deal?
  • cwh82cwh82 Member Posts: 4
I am looking to buy a TSX, and I will be making the payments. I am sure I can get financing, but the thing is that my insurance will be through the roof if I insure the car myself. Can I still be under my parent's insurance if I get the loan and make the payments myself? If I get my parents to co-sign the loan, can I put the car under their insurance? I would like to build up a credit history, that is why I would like to have my name on the loan. I just cannot afford the NJ insurance rate for a single car, under 25.
  • siulobowsiulobow Member Posts: 5
    Hi All,

I just ordered the 2005 TSX with Navigation at Open Road Acura in East Brunswick, NJ. I paid for it $28,200. The sales also promised me for giving the Protection package and all season floor mat for free. Is it a good deal?
    Thanks.
  • nyernyer Member Posts: 32
The best I have seen here on Long Island is $27,985 + tax and tags including the Protection Pkg and all season trunk and floor mats. However, I am in the process of trying to close a deal with another guy for $27,675 + tax and tags, but no Protection Pkg or mats. To me the mats and protection pkg aren't that important so I would look to save some $$$. Basically, you are in the ballpark. Enjoy and good luck!!!
