You got a good deal. Now, don't worry about it and go enjoy your wonderful new car.
  • lmacmillmacmil Member Posts: 1,758
That's going to make it even more difficult to extract good deals I think. TL sales, otoh, are down about 1% so those prices should soften.
  • jedimindtricksjedimindtricks Member Posts: 4
i'd say you got a good deal. i paid $27900 for the exact same model (carbon gray with navi) 2 months ago in houston.

but yea, don't worry about the price you paid anymore. go enjoy your car!

Just a quick thanks to everyone who has posted. Here is my story. I had been looking for a 2005 Meteor Silver TSX w/Navi for about 3 months.

Lyin’. I contacted David McDavid Acura in Dallas, TX who gave me a written quote but refused to honor it after I accepted. I contacted Acura in Torrance, CA about this but they told me to “suck it up”, the dealers could do whatever they wanted.

Cheatin’. I then contacted Goodson Acura in Irving, TX who provided me a quote but it didn’t include the destination charge, they tacked on another $500 in fees, and told me the only way to get the car was to wait 90+ days for them to order one.

Stealin’. All is not bad though, after two 5 minute phone calls, and one email, I feel like I stole it from Vandergriff Acura in Arlington, TX. They dealer traded, something Goodson wouldn’t do, and sold me the car for about $1600 less then David McDavid’s second offer. I got it for $27, 400 including their standard window tint and wheel locks pkg.

They were great. No pressure from the Internet sales guys or the finance guys. I spent less then an hour in the dealer, which included filling out paperwork, inspecting the car, and seeing if they could beat my pre-approved financing.

If anyone is looking for a car in the DFW area make sure you contact them first.
  • laineylainey Member Posts: 62
I've emailed Goodson for a few weeks. They don't seem to like dealing online. They more or less cut of communication because they want me to come in. Vandergriff seems to be the most up front and easy to deal with to me as well. Did you try MacChurchhill in FTW at all?? Wondering how they are to work with. I thinking I may now steer clear of David McDavid. That's was pretty crummy thing to do. It was probably a matter of just a couple hundred dollars worth of profit he would have lost. Seems stupid, especially with 3 local competitors. Unless of course they are owned by some of the same people. You never know. At this point, I need a vacation anyway and am willing to get quotes from South of DFW, Okla, Ark, or LA. I can enjoy a few days off and drive back with a shiny new car!
  • vfa1520vfa1520 Member Posts: 11
I didn't try MacChurchill, and you are right. Goodson really wanted me to come in and talk. I live out of state and bought in DFW because it was cheaper and Dallas seemed the best place to get dealer trades. I had forgotten that someone in my family bought a Honda from David McDavid and had a bad experience too. I got to take a road trip back to CA only days after getting it. The Navi was a great option. I stopped at restaurants that the system found that were way off the highway that I didn't know about and I travel that route alot. Wish it had a built in radar detecter, Texas cops love to give tickets, and the TSX loves to go fast. Very smooth ride.

Buying 1st car out of college.
Fairly confident I can get black TSX with NAV and protection pkg. (locks, trunk mat, splash guards) and spoiler for 28k or a few hundred over. Pretty sure this is a good deal from what I've seen. What is a realistic expectation for financing and does anyone know what the going rate for insurance is (only car/medium coverage).
  • lmacmillmacmil Member Posts: 1,758
You probably don't have a credit history so your interest rate is going to be higher than someone with a good credit history unless you get that kind of person (a parent perhaps) to co-sign the loan. State Farm and I'm sure others have rate estimators on their website. Or call your agent. Insurance rates are highly dependant on location, high in big cities, not so high in smaller towns.

    Chris:

It has been a long time since I was in the service, but are there no deals through the PX or BX?

When I was overseas we used to be able to order a car at a good discount and have the car waiting to be picked up when I got home.

These car dealers should be giving special discounts and financing to our military personnel.
  • chris16chris16 Member Posts: 11
    chiefjs,

The overseas car sales from th BX are for American made cars.
I wish the dealers would have some kind of incentives for us or even be willing to work a deal with me. With me being overseas and not being there in person, they don't seem to want to talk about anything but MSRP. I won't let them rob me, I will look at another car if they can't give me some kind of price break. I will be back in the states in less then two weeks and will see what they give me in person. I was hoping that someone here would know of a good dealer to work with in the VA area.

I just asked for a quote at a dealership in my area and got

    05 TSX - 25571
    05 TSX /w Nav - 27392

The guy said no protection package, but I'm sure we can make them include it.

To those in Canada that have recently purchased a tsx , what would be a reasonable (realistic) price to pay over invoice ? As well any feedback on the six speed vs the automatic would be appreciated. I'm hoping to test drive both shortly and maybe purchase one. Thanks in advance.
  • johnny420johnny420 Member Posts: 473
If you consider yourself to be a driving enthusiast at all, you owe it to yourself to buy the six speed. IMO, it makes the TSX a much more lively and entertaining drive.

The MT in this car is excellent.

I am just out of college and bought a manual TSX. I will just recap my experience for you information, but your experience will vary I am sure.

    Insurance:
This car is not cheap to insure. I live outside of Minneapolis, and I pay $127 a month. That was with them giving me the 25 year old rate when I am still 24, and using the company American Family that I had been with since I was 16. Levels are $100k, $300k, $100k. Good coverage. Never had a ticket, crash, or claim before, I have good credit with no time-payment history. Other quotes from other popular companies used 24 year old were over $150 a month and higher, for less coverage. Once you are 25, other companies may be cheaper. You can check online to get a pretty good estimate.

    Financing:
This will vary a lot. First thing...do not start applying for lots of loans to find out which are the cheapest! My score dropped from a 780 (very good) to a 750 because I was dumb and tried out Lending Tree. You should be able to get an estimated rate without them running a credit check. My bank, and Acura dealer did NOT like that....it looked like I had been shopping around, it is a red flag. Other red flags, short time living at current residence and short time at current job (these ended up hurting me).

They like to see 10-20% down for the best rates, and I make more than enough to cover the loan. I had $10k down on a $23.7k purchase price (this was a certified used car, I qualified for Honda's new grad, new car program). My bank, loan at 5.19%, would not give me a loan without a cosigner, period. Other banks were around 6% because of my situation with new job, new area. Acura pulled the typical car dealer trick by trying to make backend money. After 5 days of waiting to be approved (which was ridiculous by the way, I would have walked if I could have gotten it anywhere else for the deal I got) they came back at 9.9%.

"Great deal for a new credit application" the sales guy says. "Usually people like you have to pay 12-13% or more." Right, when then don't they put it on a credit card then??? Anyway, I convinced the salesman to give me the financing guy's number, so I called him. I told him I would just go with another bank and bring in a check tomorrow (which was kind of a lie). An hour later the financing guy calls me and says that another bank came back at 6.9%. I told him to forget it and then he says, "Wait, another one just came in at 5.9%." I said that I would think about it, and later in the day I called him back and said I would take it.

So, the moral is that you should only check with your bank, maybe a local credit union, and your dealer on a rate. Don't take any crap from your dealer because there IS haggle room on the rate, it is part of their profit margin. If I can get less than 6% on a used car without living in the area for more than a month, you should be able to as well.

Great post. Just sent it to my 23 yr old son is in the same situation although he's buying a used car at about 1/2 the price of your TSX.

I have a few questions....I live 1/2 the year in CT & 1/2 the year in NY (Long Island) and am looking to buy an 05/non navi auto TSX in about a month. Any advice on where to look first for the best deal? I am hoping that seeing that 06s come out soon may work to my advantage, but we'll see. I am able to spend 25,500-26,500 out the door, any advice would be great. If they don't have the color I'm looking for, will they find one?

Secondly, CT doesnt have an acura dealership within 45mins of where i live....anyone have experiences to share when it comes to visitng dealerships for repairs, maintance? Is it an all-day event? How is the service? I am fearing driving 45mins for something and running into a problem.

And thirdly, I am stuck btwn two colors.......either carbon gray/ebony or nighthawk black/parchment.......any suggestions??? Is parchment difficult to keep clean???

    Thanks!

    25,750 for

'05 Auto TSX w/ mudflaps, wheel locks and door trim (from the TL installed by dealer). This price includes everything except TT&L...

    Thanks in advance.

I was offered $25,842 for auto TSX non-navi. Is protection pack something dealers throw in if asked? And what exactly is in that

I would want to buy mud guards and trunk liner but as I understand it those would be extra. $139 for mud guards and not sure on trunk liner.
  • johnny420johnny420 Member Posts: 473
The pro pack usually includes trunk liner, mud guards, all weather floor mats and wheel locks, and yes many have been able to get it thrown in at no extra cost.

Definitely negotiate for these items, as they are ridiculously overpriced on their own. They are nice to have, however.

Did Acura just increase the MSRP by $200? I just got a quote from an internet dealer with a MSRP of $27,760.00.
  • lmacmillmacmil Member Posts: 1,758
Yes, $200 on Acuras and $150 on Hondas.
  • laineylainey Member Posts: 62
I've been told by a dealer that invoice on the non-navi is $25,553,84. I haven't heard about dealers budging much from the mid invoice/msrp range. I was quoted today a price of $26,000 with wheel locks thrown in. Wonder, if I can get them to drop a couple of hundred dollars. I'm going to see what a competitor will counter with tomorrow. If you don't mind me asking, what market do you live in?
  • pume04pume04 Member Posts: 2
    2005 TSX, Black w/Nav
Mud Guards, wheel locks, Trunk mat, and spoiler
    $28,000 +ttl
Was painless, under 10 minutes negotiating
makes me think it might have been possible to go a little lower, but I'm happy.
Got a bottle of touch-up paint too. :-)
Hopefully won't have to open it for a while.

Does anyone know how easy it is to get a spoiler put on a TSX? If I find the exact TSX I like, can the dealer put a spoiler on it easily? Or do I need to find the car I want with a spoiler already?

Earlier today, I went to Radley Acura in Northern Virginia. I wanted a Carbon Gray, TSX with Mats and Wheel Locks as the only option. They went down as far as 27300 (including taxes, title, and Fees). i walked out, and immediately the salesman called back and dropped the overall by 300. I was skeptical and told him I had to think about it. I called another dealer Pohanka Acura who told me I can get the same at his place for 25,900 (Including Taxes Title and Fees). I just need to wait two weeks for that exact model. I knew the markup was huge but this much? I'm thinking they're paying 24,500 or so for this car and starting you off at the exorbitant MSRP. How does 25,900 sound for this car? Does anyone think it's still too much?
  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
How much are the taxes and fees? I think the second dealer is blowing smoke. Have him put it in writing at that price.
  • laineylainey Member Posts: 62
I agree. $1000+ under invoice? It's too good to be true. Two different dealers say invoice is exactly $25,570.76. That reflects a recent price increase. Best deal I have been offered by two different dealerships is $26,000. My local tax is 6.25% or $1,625 and title and licensing are $182 locally plus a $50 doc fee. That makes my out the door cost $27,858. Say that car he was offered had $1,500 tax added, I would question a dealer anywhere offering this car at over $1000 under invoice. I would definitely get that in writing and signed by the sales manager! If it's the real deal, let me know where that dealer is so I can buy my plane ticket!!!
  • proffyproffy Member Posts: 46
Really? Spoilers are installed by the dealer? I thought they had to be welded at the factory. Thanks.
  • fredvhfredvh Member Posts: 857
Please let me know if the 25,900 price is real(including TTL) and I will fly there too and purchase one. PLEASE keep us informed if this price is correct but remember: If it sounds too good to be true...
How much are taxes in your location?
  • saviosavio Member Posts: 12
    Lainey,

That out the door price seems a high. I've been quoted here in Charlotte, NC 26800 with TTL with no adds but that was my first one so I'm sure I could get it lower with other options. I'm sure you could get one for around 26,300 with some good options...probably +/-500 if you can work a good deal. Just be patient...I've been waiting to buy one since last year and haven't found the deal I really like yet.

Remember, they need you more than you need the car...

A dealership in Chicago stated he would offer me 3.9% financing on a new 05 TSX for 60 months. That rate is currently offered on pre-owned Acuras. I called another dealer and was told 3.9 was not true and that financing cannot be negotiated.

I have excellent credit and wanted to know what financing rates folks have been getting on this car. Within the last week, everyone and there brother has some sort of special financing except Acura.

I am currently deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. I am scheduled to return to the United States in December. Can anyone give me a rundown on the price differences based on wether I buy a NAV TSX in DEC vs JAN; 2005 model vs 2006; and which state is the cheapest to buy it in. I am currently a Florida resident but could change over to Washington or Texas.
  • ji4ji4 Member Posts: 4
I guess it is a good price.

Actually I do have the quote in writing. Edmunds is great, but people should begin negotiation by coughing up 26.00 to subscribe to consumer reports online. The Edmunds Detail reports still come in way over what your starting negotiation should be. From CR you can run i guess what they call a car price report for another 10 bucks or so to find out exactly what the dealer paid for the car, if there's a dealer holdout, rebates, etc. In the case of the 2005 TSX with no options, the dealer's invoice is 25,354, but there's also an 816 dollar Dealer Holdback. That makes your starting point 24,538. In Virginia we do have rather high taxes, and high processing fees. You can make sure about all the Tag Fees by going to your DMV, and remember each dealer has leaway with their so "called" processing fees. You can start by offering 24,940 prior to Taxes, Title, etc. Really, the only thing you need on this TSX is a set of floor mats, and even those you don't need, but say you want 24,940 with wheel locks and floor mats, and 25,900 out the door. You'll get a bunch of well, the color you want is gonna cost us money to ship, we don't sell at invoice, much less below it, etc. Walk out and refuse to pay a penny more than this unless you want other options, which themselves are also negotiable and usually severely marked up.
  • ji4ji4 Member Posts: 4
Before anyone buys plane tickets, I should also add that a friend of mine asked one of his friends (who is a manager at a dealership) to "help me out." I don't believe he is selling this car at cost, as I am not HIS friend; however, I do think it's a price that would be rare. I believe you can get the dealerships to drop that low depending on a variety of reasons including demand for the vehicle in your area, the total number of dealerships near you (for negotiation), and also if it's at the end of the month or not--they usually need to close, close, close by then. There is not reason why anyone can't get this basic model for around 26,000.
  • laineylainey Member Posts: 62
Robr2, thanks for the valuable info! Funny you mentioned the holdback. The first guy that quoted $26k was a jerk on the phone and said that at that price he would hardly make a profit. Got really pissy when I told him I knew about the holdback. He said I was misinformed and was severely mistaken. Yeah whatever. He refused to take off the $55 inventory fee (what???) from the ttl+extra fee quote. I believe that's part of doing business and I'm not paying a fee for a car he couldn't sell last month. Boy was he hot! I have heard about this dealership from a previous post and was not expecting anything less...but wow! Went to different place yesterday. I told them I was not going to buy that day but wanted to check out the car in daylight. They tried at least 7 offers to change my mind. None were less than the 26k. I told him when the 2006's come out in September, I'll be back in the fall for an '05. Should want to move them fast and make better deals. "Oh, but they are selling fast, we won't have any and don't you want one now!" Told him I'd take my chances. I have already found 5 used 05's across the country. Only a couple are close, but that tells me that I won't have alot to worry about since they are starting to hit the lots already. There are also about 2 dozen CPO 04's locally as well 8 with under 30 miles on the odometer.

Just bought a black/black '05 non-navi, AT TSX w/ wheel locks and splash guards for 25,790 out the door. Financed it through Honda with 0 down for 66 months at 4.7% APR. It had 13 miles on it and I love it already.
  • laineylainey Member Posts: 62
That is fantastic stevoreno524! I am jealous over your great deal! I'm almost inspired to go back to the dealership earlier than anticipated. There are 4 Acura dealers in my area. I'll definitly try to hardball them more. No way I'm paying $27.8k OTD. If no luck, then I'll just wait until the start of the fall outgoing model push around July.
  • stevoreno524stevoreno524 Member Posts: 4
    Just to clarify...

I live in Missouri, so I pay the sales tax 30 days after purchase at the DMV. That is not included in the price (25,790) posted earlier.
  • proffyproffy Member Posts: 46
    stevoreno524-

Did you find it was hard to locate a Black on Black w/o Nav? That's exactly what I'm looking for. I haven't told the dealer I want one that specific yet as I'm affraid they'll try and up the price on me saying "that's a hard combination to find..."
  • stevoreno524stevoreno524 Member Posts: 4
Not in Kansas City... Both dealerships had one. And the one that I got was actually already sold to someone else who was picking up in a week. The dealer sold me his and ordered another one. So I don't know if they are incredibly hard to find, but it doesn't appear so. Good luck.

I ordered a Meteor Silver TSX Auto w/ Nav.in Nov. 2004 Added spoiler, moonroof deflector, and upgraded tint on windows. I looked at three dealers in the area before settling on one. The car arrived in Feb. and my out the door price was under $29K, taxes included. Only options I avoided was ground kit and "gold" package. My other car is a 2000 Subaru Legacy GT Limited, which is nice, but really can't compare to the Acura's power. As long as you do your homework and are happy with your final decision, you'll enjoy the car.

What was the price without taxes and reg, etc? Taxes vary from state to state, so what was the cost of the car with those accessories, please.

And what state are you in?

Is 193 miles a lot to have on a new 2005 TSX?
  • richylrichyl Member Posts: 20
I just called an Acura dealer in Virginia today and they told me the sales tax is 3% plus the county tax, (i.e. for Manassas total tax is 3.17%). I don't think that's high at all. What did you mean by high taxes?
  • bake152azbake152az Member Posts: 3
Original sticker on this car was $28.5K when I ordered it from the dealer in Nov. 04. I was told the car would arrive in 6 to 8 weeks. The dealer revised the arrival date, but only after 11 weeks had passed. I called another dealer, just to inquire if these delays were legit, and he told me my dealer was feeding me a line. I confirmed this with Acura of N. America.
At any rate, the new dealer invited me in to view his inventory, and he had the car I wanted in stock. He agreed to beat my original dealers price, include the accessories, and match the Costco. member price on a 2005 model. My price before taxes and fees was $27,167. Taxes here are 8.1%. I told him my number was $29K and that's what he hit. I live in Phoenix, AZ.
