I have never owned a vehicle with a navigation system nor rented them so for me...I have no need for one. I agree that Nav's are popular with pricier vehicles so it's strange that the feature isn't offered? :confuse:
If my understanding of the GM navigation system is correct, it is not worth the money. As I understand it, the maps are on a DVD that has to be in the player in order for you to use the navigation system. So, you cannot listen to music and use the navigation system at the same time.
Recently, I was interested in purchasing a Tahoe or Denali. I asked about the navigation system. The salesman told me I needn't bother with the navigation system since it precludes you from playing music while in use because the maps are on a DVD.
Hi all, I just reserved an H3 to pick up this Saturday. Used GMID (thank you for letting me know about this) and am going to lease. 36 months, 15,000 miles, sticker 37735, not sure of the GMID yet. My question: does anyone know for certain the residual on an H3. I saw someone post that it's 64% but that seems high. I did some quick figuring and if it is 64% and I assume $3000 off from the GMID that means that the residual would be $24150. with a purchase price of 34735 the total amount of the lease would be $ 10585 over 36 month + interest and taxes. Or $294 + interest and taxes. Now I've heard you all quoting $500 and $600 lease payments making the interest(money factor) and taxes approaching 100%.
I'm one of those people that quoted a residual of 64% and that is definitely accurate; however, that is for a 36 month lease with 12,000 miles per year. Your residual will probably be lower if you do 15,000 miles per year on your lease. The interest rate for me was 7.75% plus I had to figure in my 6% sales tax for NJ.
Thanks for the advice re: GMID. I am now down to the H3 and the Land Rover LR3. I like the H3 better but I am very worried about the visibility!!! My wife drove it and had a lot of trouble seeing as well. What is your opinion after owning one :confuse:
Most every nav system that I know of runs off a DVD and they all have their own player usually under the seat separate from the cd player built into the radio. My thought is on a truly off road vehicle like the Hummer wouldn't all the bouncing around offroad damage the DVD? I have had CD's skip while off roading so maybe that is why they don't offer it. The radio etc. in the Hummers isn't any different than what is in the Trailblazer and you can get nav on them.
I've owned an H3 for about a week. I was concerned about visibility also. What you have to do is rely on your mirrors more than you are used to. I don't have an issue with it now, of course, I'm 6' 3" and have a better angle.
The back window is hard to see out of, but they do sell aftermarket backup cameras that plug into the trailer hitch.
I think GM did away with this as my Colorado doesn't lock either. I have a remote starter and after starting it without the key I could turn it left and right as far as it would go. Other thing is I also tow it behind my motorhome and after going through the procedure for putting transfer case into neutral it says to put key in lock position and remove. So again this tells me there is no more lock. Also it was worthless anyway as when they steal a car they pop the ignition key out and this disables the lock anyway. But it is a great feature for those of us who tow their vehicle behind their motorhomes as we now don't have to leave the key in the igniton and take a chance on someone unhooking the towbar and driving away if we forget to remove the key when we stop for food etc. and worse yet forget to put the key back in and unlock the steering causing more damage.
Thanks for the information. I purchased a "Club" last night in an attemp the deter theft. I does not work to good in a vehicle where the steering wheel does not lock. What anti theft devises do you or anyone suggest, audible, low Jack, chains, remove tires and put on blocks. Please provide suggestions on theft prevention. Thanks for the help.
depending on how bad they want it the best insurance is have plenty of insurance. I have read stories where the pros will just go in with one of those flatbed trucks and winch it up and be gone is a matter of a few seconds. With fake lights and wreaker signs who will be the wiser.
Hey all, can anyone recommed a dealer for an H3 that could get a vehicle to Cleveland Ohio? I want to lease an H3 and I have a GMID # but they won't honor the GMID price on a lease. Well, actually they say they will but when you run the numbers they are jacking the price back up to MSRP and charging 8.75 % interest.
I would buy one within the hour if I could find a dealer that would honor the GMID pricing on a reasonable lease.
Go to (or just call) Hummer of Columbus - they'll take good care of you. Email me if you want and I'll give you the name of the saleperson I dealt with - she was awesome.
just Fyi, I would steer clear of Bob Ross hummer near dayton. classic bait and switch. they say they'll honor the GMID pricing then first chance they get they try to screw you on the lease financing. salesman was OK but if you don't know what your doing you'll end up paying over MSRP on the financing. sales manager was an absolute idiot and blew the deal in (literally) a 45 second phone call.
Actually Psy, i just found your post where you left the number on your deal. Those are about exactly the ones I came up with when I tried to buy yesterday from (BOB ROSS HUMMER IN DAYTON OHIO WHO WILL RIP YOU OFF) .
your post about leasing and the GMID was right on the money. With a cap cost, residual, money factor and tax you can figure your payment exactly.
The GMID is a great tool but I can guarantee you that at a lot of dealerships once the finance guys get a hold of you if you don't know what your doing your going to get screwed. Anyone thinking of leasing be very very careful and do your homework.
I am determined to get a H3 Adventure 5spd. Does anyone know where I can get a GMID? Out here the dealers are outrageous. Also, are there any dealers I should avoid?
Can anyone assist me here. I'm very close to purchasing the new H3, however, I'm not certain how much maint. is on this verhicle. Can anyone tel me how much it would be for routine maintenance such as, oil changes, rotations, balances, etc. I'm expecting everything else to hold up for a while besides tires, and I know how much they are approx., but wanted to find out about other such things. Thanks for your insight if your able to answer this.
Guys - have any of you run into or had to address this one: The H3 sound system, as with a lot of new cars these days, does not come with a built in cassette player. Therefore, there is no high quality way of getting sound from your mp3 player to the sound system. I tried a couple different FM modulators, but haven't found one that isn't susceptible to nearby FM stations, static, etc. And despite advertising, they tend to chop off the high & low end sound. I've surfed a few sound related sites but haven't really come up with much other than: buy a different radio. My question to you guys is: do you know if there is a GM solution? I've ordered an H3, and I'd really love to get this figured out before I have to have after-market work done.
Thanks for the good info & this site in general. It's great!
Why not look into the the one they use with the Delphi XM radio. It hooks into the car antenna and when it is on it cuts the signal from the antenna to the radio so shouldn't have any interference. Don't know if it will work but worth looking into. Also some higher end have extra plugs on the back of the radio. Maybe this one does. Just another thought.
Do you think there will be changes in 07 to the power train to include a v6 v8 or a turbo Inline 5. Also what month do you think the 07 models will be available. I am all but convinced to purchase the h3 now but would like more power if it was available.
I bet you will see the turbo added in the near future as that is the way they showed the concept H3. GM has been slow in putting bigger engines in their vehicles the past few years. I bet you may even see it before the 06 year ends as in their little truck (SSR). They brought that out with a small engine and it hasn't sold, as who wants to pay almost as much for one of them as a vette and have Grandma and her Impala blow you away at the light. Now it has 390HP at mid year and the 06 was bumped up to 400 I believe. Keep your fingers crossed.
Just test drove a automatic h3 with the 5 cyl engine and it seemed fine for my needs. You could certainly get more out of a stick if you need a little more guts. My test was with a loaded model 3 big 200lb duds and a full 23 gallons of fuel and it was performing well. Contrary to reviews.
So after reading this forum and checking out the H3 online I've almost decided to buy one. It is slightly above my price range so when I saw the GMID thing I was thrilled...w/the discount it would be right where I wanna spend. Still waiting to hear back from the gentleman who was offering the GMID certs to see if he has any more... (fingers crossed)
So I went to the Hummer Dealer in Hartford, CT today to hopefully test drive one of these. I went up to the H3's they had on display and looked at the sticker... I was shocked (but not TOTALLY surprised) to see a "Northeast Adjustment" fee of $3500.00 tacked onto the price of the vehicle.
At that point I just turned around and left. If a dealer will so blatantly rip people off then I want nothing to do w/them!! This is supposed to be the affordable Hummer for working people like me, not the marked-up status symbol that the H1 and H2 are.
Anyone have an idea where I might find an HONEST dealer in or around Connecticut? Any idea if any of them do the GMID thing? (provided I can get one! *hoping*)
With GMID pricing, the price you pay is near the bottom of the INVOICE. You should haver asked the dealer if he accepts GMID pricing...forget the "extra fee"!!!
I am sick of the accepted wisdom of many car reviewers about the H3. The H3 is not slow. It accelerates very well, if driven correctly; specifically, don't floor it. Accelerate steadily and it has very good pickup. Floor it and it will just make weird noises. It is geared to be a true rock-climber, meaning it will steadily and powerfully climb up and over things that faux SUV's won't. The trade-off is that it is not a GTO, Corvette, etc. The H3 can't be both a stoplight tire-burner and a true off-road rock-climber. Neither can a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. However, the H3 is a great combination of off-road prowess and highway cruiser.
I've ordered an H3 (adventure and lux package, 5 speed) from dealer in Cary, NC. Can't wait for it to come. They've agreed to accept GMID certificate. They said they couldn't give me exact price until they receive invoice. Is there somewhere I can get the price they should quote me? Also, with the GMID certificate do I still have to pay their DOC fees of almost $400?
I've been seriously on the brink of buying an H3 for my business, but am concerned about useable cargo capacity. Besides the more obvious reasons for wanting this vehicle, I also need it to carry cargo in the form of boxes (cases of wine and beer, to be more specific).
I thought I must be wrong when it appeared that the rear seats do not fold down flat, but I'm being told they don't. That means the only real flat area is the extreme rear and the rear seat backs will always be tilted against the seat bottom to some degree. Dealer has not been much help on this....... I guess because they have no answer for me, other than saying that some customers have talked about building a platform to go over the rear seat backs (???????)
What do owners do, if anything, to get full use of the cargo area?
Are you sure about the folding seats? I just went to the hummer site and there is an interior picture of the rear seats folded down. I can't imaging why they would build one that doesn't. I am getting mine primarily for work reasons (well, you know) and it would be a serious inconveniance if they don't fold down.
That's sort of hilarious (unless you are trying to buy local I guess). Good for you for walking.
CT does have a rep for high salaries so I guess the dealer figures they may snag a few buyers. Try emailing them an out-the-door price offer. Then look on the net - I bet you could have one flat bedded to your door for $800 from across the country. There's a price quote link on the top of this page for starters.
What exactly is the GMID? I am interested in this but have never heard about it. Does anyone have a link that would explain it or can take a few seconds and fill me in? Thanks in advance.
I ordered an H3 and I'm contemplating buying an aftermarket navigation system to have it installed. I am leasing the H3 and I want to know if it isn't smart to install a nav system into a leased vehicle. Also what are my options when the lease is up, i'll remove it when i return the vehicle but then i have the option of a.selling it on ebay or something similar or b.putting it in my next vehicle (hoping it will fit), has anyone else considered this option? :confuse:
Just one opinion, but I think in-dash Navs are just a hugeextravagance. There aren't many car accessories that even come close in cost. For way less than half the price of an in-dash unit, you can buy a portable color Garmin or Magellan GPS that does everything the in-dash units does and goes with you on trips or can be removed for security. If your on a trip using a rental car, what good is a $2,000 in-dash unit doing sitting in your car at home? Also, the in-dash units are almost sure to be obsolete in a few years, and based on the experience of people I know that have had them for a few years, its difficult and expensive to buy updated or replacement map disks for them. You have to ask yourself if your buying the GPS for nav needs or for its bling factor. And will the in-dash unit be any use if you're going offroad in a H3? Some are useless on unmapped roads and just shown a blank screen.
I use a GPS add-on for my Palm. I have to upload area maps from my computer, but hey...it only cost me $80 on eBay and I can handle loading a lot of maps for the $2K I saved.
First I want to thank this message board for the help, I was able to get the GMID information,, I am waiting for my H3 to get here its the first slate blue that Edmark in Idaho is getting, Gmid comes with surprizes we did not get the GMS price as stated in the letter we where given supplier price which was about $2000.00 more than the GMS price that was stated, Then I was told that only employee's can get the GMS price, Is that not what the advertising is about,, I guess thats what we get for wanting slate blue, We rented one for 3 days and fell in love with it,So we have put our money down,,, It was shipped on 8/2 and the arrival date was 8/18,, we are told that it could be any day!!! can't wait!!!! Hope it will be soon!!!!
Yes, The GM Employee Pricing is not eligible for the H3 (2006 model) but look at it this way....you still saved a lot of money over the MSRP and you actually are buying the H3 for approx. 1% BELOW invoice....so be happy and good luck with your forthcoming H3. Please keep us informed and stay with us as an active participating member of Edmunds.
I previously posted how happy I was with my purchase of an H3, from Hall Hummer, in Virginia Beach, VA. When I bought the H3, I was charged a $399 processing fee and Hall was aware that I wanted the vehicle titled in MD, where I live, and my MD Combat Veteran tags transferred, from the BMW, I traded-in. I was issued a 30 day VA temporary tag and told that that the documents to transfer my tag and title the H3, in MD, would be sent to me to take to MD MVA, where I would pay 5% MD sales tax and transfer fees. I have done this several times before, when I have purchased vehicles outside MD. Recently, as the 30 day VA temporary tag is about to expire, I began telephoning and faxing Hall Hummer about the status of the paperwork needed to get MD tags transferred and a title. After a week of ignoring me, I have now been told that Hall Hummer titled the H3, with a non-negotiable VA title, subject to a security interest to SunTrust Bank, with whom Hall placed my loan to buy the H3. As a result, I can't title and tag the vehicle until SunTrust receives the VA paperwork and signs MD paperwork to allow me to title it in MD. Furthermore, because Hall titled it in VA, MD considers my H3 as a used vehicle and I will have to have it MD inspected, at my expense, before I can tag and title it. Hall's response has been tough-luck, all we had to do was record the security interest, in VA, so SunTrust would pay us the loan/purchase money and that's all we are going to do for the $399 processing fee we charged you. So, I now have an H3 with a VA temp tag that is about to expire, which will eventually be titled as a used vehicle, in MD, after I pay for a MD inspection and get all the necessary documents, from SunTrust and VA DOT, to take to MD MVA. Of course, MD MVA will want to charge me an uninsured fee because the tags are still registered to my trade-in and the insurance was transferred to the H3, on 7/30/05, when I bought it.
I checked the rear seats and they don't quite fold down flat, but its only the upholstery thickness that keeps them protruding a bit; there's nothing rigid in the way. Its only an inch or two. They didn't appear to lock in the folded position. You don't have to remove the headrests first as on some SUVs. Rear seat cushions need to be folded forward first, so there's no storage on the floor with the seats folded. Any bulky things in the pockets on the seat backs have to be removed. When the rear seat's folded, the entire area behind the front seats is clear cargo space with no other obstructions.
I've owned several GPS units in my various vehicles and they completely rock! They certainly put the factory units to shame. I've done the laptop-GPS route, the PDA-GPS route, and even the phone-GPS route and all have been somewhat disappointing compared to the dedicated GPS units. Garmin (www.garmin.com) makes the best, but there are several new ones hitting the market with built in mp3 players and other neat features. Stop by a CompUsa or better yet, Fry's Electronics to get a really good look at them. If you decide to buy, Ebay is your best bet. Dealers are always selling them brand-new on Ebay at rock-bottom prices.
The bottom line seems to be that because of the way it was originally done, by Hall, I will have to undergo MD inspection. However, Hall Hummer has agreed to reimburse me, for the cost, and send me another VA temp tag, to use while I'm getting a MD title. I now feel that Hall Hummer is trying to correct the problem and restore me to my " completely satisfied customer" status.
I'm close to buying an H3. I've read many reviews that, as walc points out, focus on the fact that the H3 may be under powered. With a turbo option possibly coming out next year I question if the engine is sufficient for the weight of the H3.
I don't need a light to light rocket or a top speed of a sports car. I want to comfortably accelerate and easily travel down the highway. Test drives are great but I'd love to know how you H3 owners find your power in day to day use, passing, uphill etc. And what if I strapped a 16ft boat and trailer on the back? :confuse:
I've got one thing to tell GM. I'll buy an H3 when they put the 4.2L I6 engine in it.
I've driven a few trailblazers with the really sweet inline 6 that GM makes. That engine is the cat's meow. Smooth, powerfull, and responsive. I just simply don't understand why GM would put the 6.0L in the H2, but not at least there awesome 290 horse 4.2L 6 in the H3. It's almost as if someone is asleep at the wheel. It'd make the H3 a tottally different machine. And I seriously doubt it would hurt gas milage, and might even improve it. If an engine is struggling it burns more gas. The test drive of the H3 with the I5 struggled, period.
The I6 would be right at home in this chassis. That is if it would fit. I was very saddened to see that the I5 was quite a tight fit under the hood of the H3. I wonder if that is the main reason they didn't even consider the I6? Too bad if so, because it's keeping the H3 out of my serious consideration for my next vehicle. Even though I wish it very much to be part of that consideration.
I currently drive a 5.3L Silverado, and I'm shopping for something smaller. The H3 is a perfect idea for it's size and features (sans power plant.) I do occasionally tow trailers, and I do enjoy a good start at the lights, and hate it when I have to bury a foot just to get up a hill, something I definately don't do with my Silverado.
They did put the 5.3 in the Trailblazer, maybe that's what's in store for the H3? That'd be cool, but I'd prefer the possibility of better milage out of the I6. It does get 15 and 20 in the Trailblazer. Better than the 15/19 the H3 with I5 is rated for.
Another possibility would be if they made the H3 a hybrid. Add an electric boost to that I5 to give it 50 more ft/lbs and a few more horses, then I'd reconsider. Hmmm, neat thought.
