A discount from MSRP is not a CAP cost reduction. Cap cost reductions are payments you make (or are made for you by rebates/incentives) off of the selling price.
I spoke to a dealer and got a sale price number. Before I go in with further negotiations, I'd like to understand how the Edmunds lease calculator is giving me such a high payment.
All numbers below are rough estimates: 1. MSRP - $36000 2. Sale Price - $33000 3. Residual (36mo/15k) - 58% (as provided by Edmunds above in this thread) 4. MF: 0.00126 (3%) 5. Acquisition Fee: $595 6. Title/Reg: $488 7. Other Misc Fees: $500 8. Taxes
I'm getting an approx. figure of $420, instead the calculator is giving me around $480.

Can't say, as I don't see your inputs into the calculator. We don't use that, we just do the math.
At $36K and $33K, and not adding in 5, 6, 7 or 8, I get $405/mo.

I'm being quoted $550.0 on a 36 month lease with $0 down, which seems really high for this car. I'm wondering where in this deal, if any, is there room to negotiate a better price/payment. I feel like I'm overpaying. Any insight is appreciated.

The 2016 A3 doesn't have a great lease program.
Shucks! Thanks for the information. Is there a certain time of year, after the new model year release, that Audi tends to get more aggressive with their lease options?

Lease numbers for the 2016 A3 2.0T Prem + are .00126 and 56% for 36/15.
So, you are getting the base MF, which is a good start.
Are you paying the fees and taxes up front or adding them into the selling price?
If I use $36,370 as the cap cost (MSRP - discount - rebate), then I get a pre-tax payment of $471.76/mo. Quite a difference from the $550/mo quote.

The MF is the same on the Premium, but the residual is 2% higher (58%). Coupled with the lower MSRP and selling prices, this results in a payment (pre-tax) of $400/mo. Assuming sales tax is around $600, and adding that and the other fees into the sale price, I get a payment of about $455/mo.
I have a quote of $467.59/mo for a 36mo./15k lease with 0 down(the rebate is used as a minimal down payment). I think this is a great deal, but would love an expert's opinion. Upon calculating this - 467.59*36 = 16833 + 1250 (excess wear package) -> my 3 year cost is $18083.
However, if I finance with the same selling price of 36000-1000 = 35000 Sale price: 35000 Tax: 3062 Title/Other Fees: 400 Total Amount = $38462 With 18k down, and 20462 financed at 1.9%/3yr, total cost = I would own the car for 39066
Now, assuming I sell the car in 3 years at Edmunds and Audi's seemingly low residual rate of 56%, assuming I sell the car for 56% off MSRP(42790) = 23962. That means, in 3 years I would have paid 39066 - 23962 = 15103
Therefore, assuming I sell the car well maintained for that kind of residual, my lease cost is turning out to be 2980 more over 3 years. I would really like some advice on whether my assumptions on selling are justified, and if so, should one lease or buy here ? Is there any incentive for me to lease here / maybe get a good buy out deal after 3 years or something ? Otherwise, the lease is not making sense to me vs. financing.
The dealer has started the paperwork for lease, but I haven't signed the contract. They only did a quick DMV Transfer of Ownership, and a Lease Application. I am assuming that I can change my mind and tell them that I want to finance instead ? Will that be OK ?

It's more a matter of how long you plan on keeping the car - if you trade often, then a lease may make more sense.
If you haven't signed any paperwork, you shouldn't have any problem telling the dealership you want to buy instead of lease.

2016 A3 2.0 Premium for 36/12k - .00089 and 59%. So yes, definitely room to get the MF down.
Politely but firmly tell the dealer you won't sign a deal with an inflated MF. And, reach out to other Audi dealers - it only takes one to make a deal on your terms.

this is really a nice calculation and interesting way to look at it. does it realy work this way? would you really get 56% of the car when you go to sell it 3 yrs down?
also am wondering with all this VW issues, does it make sense to wait and get a much better deal on these cars? has anyone seen difference in the pricing over the last month or so?

Audi has been pretty good with their residual estimates - unlike other manufacturers who inflate the residual for a more attractive lease payment. However, that doesn't guarantee the value of your car should you try to sell it on the open market.
Regarding the value of VW's (and Audi's) due to the recent unpleasantness, I think it's still too early to say what will happen to the gas models. TDI models, of course, have not been approved for sale in the US, at VW's request.

.00068 and 57%.
I get $375/mo + tax with your pricing. The doc fee of $798 is pretty outrageous; I would work to get a lower selling price to mitigate that.

.00034 MF and 55% residual. To evaluate the payment we would need the selling price. and/or CAP cost.
On the surface, it looks like a good deal.
Audicare is $829, but raises the residual by 1%. Should only raise the payment by about $10/mo., if you roll it in.
How is everyone getting thousands off the selling price? I'd love to lease a 2016 A3 Premium Plus 2.0T, florrett silver, tech package, sport package and B&O.
MSRP - $42,850 Truecar - $40,702
With the numbers I've seen above for MF/Res I get $553/mo (8.475% sales tax per month, sigh) for 36 months 12k/yr.
Is it unrealistic to get this under $500/mo?
Also, I see a lot of people posting $1,250 rebates... How do you get those?

Use the "Car Research" tab at the top of the page to show current incentives.
$50/mo is about $1800 .. that's how much more off the sticker you'd need to get.
.00089 and 57% are the lease numbers.
$2000 off sticker is about 5% ... not bad for a brand new 2016.

I spoke to a dealer and got a sale price number. Before I go in with further negotiations, I'd like to understand how the Edmunds lease calculator is giving me such a high payment.
All numbers below are rough estimates:
1. MSRP - $36000
2. Sale Price - $33000
3. Residual (36mo/15k) - 58% (as provided by Edmunds above in this thread)
4. MF: 0.00126 (3%)
5. Acquisition Fee: $595
6. Title/Reg: $488
7. Other Misc Fees: $500
8. Taxes
I'm getting an approx. figure of $420, instead the calculator is giving me around $480.

If you are rolling in the 1st payment with $0 due at signing, then the math is correct.
The 2016 A3 doesn't have a great lease program.

I am in a bit of a dilemma here between financing or leasing.
Lease Quote:
MSRP: 42790
Discount: 6790
Selling Price: 36000
Doc Fee: 80
License/Title: 363
Tire/Battery Fee: 8.75
ELF/Weight: 29
Acquisition Fee: 695
Tax on Collected Items: 46.59
Capitalized Initial Fees: 467.59
Total Cap: 37,689
Rebate: 1000
Net Cap: 36,689
MF: 0.00126
Residual: 56%
I have a quote of $467.59/mo for a 36mo./15k lease with 0 down(the rebate is used as a minimal down payment). I think this is a great deal, but would love an expert's opinion.
Upon calculating this - 467.59*36 = 16833 + 1250 (excess wear package) -> my 3 year cost is $18083.
However, if I finance with the same selling price of 36000-1000 = 35000
Sale price: 35000
Tax: 3062
Title/Other Fees: 400
Total Amount = $38462
With 18k down, and 20462 financed at 1.9%/3yr, total cost = I would own the car for 39066
Now, assuming I sell the car in 3 years at Edmunds and Audi's seemingly low residual rate of 56%, assuming I sell the car for 56% off MSRP(42790) = 23962.
Thank You so much.
If you haven't signed any paperwork, you shouldn't have any problem telling the dealership you want to buy instead of lease.

Politely but firmly tell the dealer you won't sign a deal with an inflated MF. And, reach out to other Audi dealers - it only takes one to make a deal on your terms.

also am wondering with all this VW issues, does it make sense to wait and get a much better deal on these cars? has anyone seen difference in the pricing over the last month or so?
Regarding the value of VW's (and Audi's) due to the recent unpleasantness, I think it's still too early to say what will happen to the gas models. TDI models, of course, have not been approved for sale in the US, at VW's request.

Can the experts tell me if this is a good deal or if I should lower it? Which fees can be negotiated? This is for a 12K 36 mo lease $0 down
Thanks in advanced
.00068 and 57%.
I get $375/mo + tax with your pricing. The doc fee of $798 is pretty outrageous; I would work to get a lower selling price to mitigate that.

I think it's a great deal, but I just want to make sure since I've never leased an Audi. Also, how much more a month is Audi Care if I roll into these payments??
To evaluate the payment we would need the selling price. and/or CAP cost.
On the surface, it looks like a good deal.
Audicare is $829, but raises the residual by 1%. Should only raise the payment by about $10/mo., if you roll it in.

MSRP - $42,850
Truecar - $40,702
With the numbers I've seen above for MF/Res I get $553/mo (8.475% sales tax per month, sigh) for 36 months 12k/yr.
Is it unrealistic to get this under $500/mo?
Also, I see a lot of people posting $1,250 rebates... How do you get those?
$50/mo is about $1800 .. that's how much more off the sticker you'd need to get.
.00089 and 57% are the lease numbers.
$2000 off sticker is about 5% ... not bad for a brand new 2016.
