Which dealer in Chicago quoted you $29,800 and $31,800?
  • sas099sas099 Member Posts: 13
You know that was the case with me too. They ran mine and my wife's and the score were lower than we thought. They were lower by about 15-20 points. This of course put me in the 5.9% bracket too. I was told that we were 3 points away and were told that Honda credit won't budge. It sounds suspicious if this is happening to other people. Because I know my credit score is 715 according to Transunion and Experian.

    What can be done?

Hey, 5.9 isn't too bad. Where are you? Are you in one of those states where they are still offering 4.9% (I think it's only 17 states) and they are telling you you can only get 5.9? The lowest I could find now is 5.99% through my insurance company (USAA) after my own bank today tried to pull 8.25%!! So I'm not sure in the private sector, you'll get better than 5.9 unless they are offering incentives through the dealership or you have a friend in the banking business. You could use the 5.9 from them to bargain down with local banks/credit unions... it never hurts to ask!!

Hey everyone. I started dealing with a salesperson in MN here yesterday on a 2006 TL 5AT w/Navi. We talked twice during the day and agreed on a price. I got this person's name from my brother in laws business partner. At about 8:30pm, he calls back and pulls the 'ole "I made a mistake with my number I gave you, it's actually going to be $1000 more." Pretty pathetic, not to mention, it was referral from one of his good friends. I explained to him that he can do it for the price we agreed on to which he replied that they "never" sell cars under invoice... whatever. Within 15 minutes he was down $390 without talking to his sales manager even though 15 minutes earlier he couldn't budge any lower. Furthermore, I have proof they sold the exact same car over a month ago for $350 above what above what we originally agreed on. He said that they never sell cars for that much and that whoever posted it was lying. Anyway, they did, and now what I'm wondering is if any of you ever switch who you are dealing with at the dealerships and start over with someone else. I do have the name of the salesperson who sold the car for the amount posted on the web. Thanks!

I live in AZ, and back August I visited a local Acura dealership for the first time to test drive a TL. I talked with a salesperson who told me that as long as my credit score was over 710, that I would qualify for the special financing. I wasn't ready to buy yet, but I kept that info in mind.

I used myfico.com to get my credit scores, and all 3 of my scores were over 710, so I thought for sure that I'd get the 4.9% for 5 years. AZ dealerships however, were no longer offering the special financing. So after getting some very competitive price quotes, I decided to make a fun weekend trip, and drove to a dealership in Los Angleles CA this past Saturday.

When I got there however, they ran my Experian score at 685 instead of 713, and told me I'd only qualify for the 5.9% for 5 years. I still bought it, but was annoyed that my Experian score suddenly changed for some reason, and I'd have to pay an extra $800 or so over the 5 years in finance charges.

Monday, I checked my Experian score again, and it was still 713! So, I'm wondering - Do car dealerships use different scores than what's available online? In that case, paying $15 per report is useless. Or, did my dealership run my score, get 713 - but tell me it was 685 in order to squeeze an extra $800 from me?

It's interesting that's this has happened to a couple other people. If anyone else had a similar experience, please post!

Trying to talk to a living being at Experian is impossible, so I'm going to try to call Honda Financing and find out from them what score they got. If they say 685 then I know something's messed up with Experian or MyFico. But if they say 713...

Very interesting. Let us know what you find out. I'll will try to look into it as well.

Caltman, what was the price that he originally agreed to? Was that supposed to include the $1000 cash back?

    Hi,

Dealer offers Invoice price and 4.9% APR (no money down) without protection package on 2006 TL.
For protection package (wheel locks, splashguards and trunk tray) they ask $280.

    My questions are:
    - Is this a good deal?
    - Can they go below the Invoice price at this APR
(thought maybe cause 2007 models are coming in a month they might)
    - Should I bargain to include the protection package?

    Thanks

I am from Rochester, NY. My friend and I went to John Holtz acura to buy Acura TL. He wanted one with Navi and i didn't want the navi. After a couple of trips to the dealer, our final offer was $33,700 for Navi (before TTL and document fees) and $31,700 for the one without navi (before tax and other fees). The dealer DID NOT agree to our amazement although we were buying two cars at the same time.

We were really angry, so we decided to buy in some other city and fortunately came across this forum and noticed the price we offered was way above what everybody else is paying. So we decided to checkout Curry Acura in Scarsdale,NY.
The sales executive was really nice and gave me a quote over phone when i explained to him that i don't want to drive 6 hrs just to get a quote. We finalized the price and both of us are going to pick up our cars this saturday.

Final price $29900 + TTL for my car (Anthracite metallic with EBONY) and $32500 + TTL (Black with EBONY) for my friends car. We are very happy to have saved almost 3000 dollars.

Thank you all for the posts. Keep it coming.

I just called Honda Financial Services customer service line, and got the answer to my question. The rep told me that the scoring method they use is different from what the 3 credit bureaus use, and is harsher. So when the dealership told me my Experian score was 685, that's not entirely true. The 685 is based on my Experian score with some extra Honda specific calculations thrown in.

So, paying to see your FICO scores beforehand is a waste because they don't use those. Unfortunately, the only time you'll find out your Honda FICO score is after you've applied for their credit. 5.9% is still probably the best I could have gotten, I just hate being an uninformed consumer that gets surprised right at the time of purchase.

2006 Acura TL with Navigation , Anthracite/Quartz with financing
$31980 before TTL at Thomas Acura in Covina CA
  • micwiltaymicwiltay Member Posts: 3
$31,800 before TTL. 2006/anthracite/ebony/nav. They noted the $1000 marketing incentive on the deal. So it was really around invoice w/destination minus the incentive.

I am also in the Twin Cities and would love to hear the resolution/outcome of your situation. I am also in the Market for an '06 TL w/o or w/Nav. I couldn't even get a quote over the internet from Bloomington Acura and Buerkle Acura wouldn't budge lower then 32,500 for the Nav-equipped car which seemed too high to me.

This morning I went into Bloomington Acura to cut a deal assuming that they had a lot of leftover 06s and new 07s and was surprised that they had NO 2007 TLs yet on the lot and not even any literature. They definitely have a lot of leftover 2006 TLs on the lot currently as do the other Twin Cities Acura dealers so I'm guessing prices will come down more as the 07s roll in.

I'm not in a rush so I'll wait for the prices to keep falling.

Muller Woodfield Acura in Hoffman Estates. They have a lot of inventory to choose from and are very nice to work with. I believe if you are really ready to buy like I was they will honor these prices. Don't expect to also deal on a trade though as there is little left for them to deal on the new car side. good luck and let us know how you make out...

    OK ALL,

This will probably be my last post in this forum.....THANKS TO ALL THAT HELPED:

Bought the 2006 black on black TL w Nav auto for 32K +TTL at Hillside Acura. The Sales MGR was awesome easy process & pleasant the whole way through. He was originally recc to me by a co-worker. the whole process was a pleasure.

i realize my price was Not as great as some other areas in the country but after 2 months on this forum, I am confident I got as good a deal as I could in the Long Island market. plus I got free oil changes at the dealership which is local for the life of the warranty ( thats gotta be worth at least $300 -10 changes at 30 bucks minimum) so it was worth being close by rather than going to NJ & save 500 bucks IMO

The only thing I would have done differently is bought in late AUgust for the same price & i would have had the 2.9%...4.9% acura financing, but oh well.

Hope this helps you all & good luck

    Reonn,
Thanks for the information. I don't understand why they would do it that way. My credit score was good enough to get a great rate to finance my new HOUSE but not good enough for Honda? I don't get it?

    Thanks again for the information.

    ae9,
Congrats on getting the new TL. I think you got a decent deal considering the convenience of having the dealer in practically your backyard.
I picked up my Black/Camel combination from Rallye just over a week ago for $32,175 plus TTL with only the first oil change thrown in plus wheel locks.

It is a 2005 model with 5800 miles. The car was traded in at a lexus dealer from an older couple who wanted a "softer" ride. The car is in pristine condition. Is this a good buy or should I spend the extra $4000 to get basically the same car. Considering the normal $4000 to $5000 mile depreciation that these cars go through, I would think that it might be worth it, especailly with such miles. Any thoughts
  • marinomarino Member Posts: 1
Did they accept the $29900 because you were buying 2 cars?
Did you have a trade or cash deal?
    Thanx.
  • kennyg8kennyg8 Member Posts: 225
AE9 and gonein60, congrats to you both for getting your new rides. I believe we all got a very good deal, :) considering many people paid MSRP ($36k) when the TL first came out a couple of years ago, and those cars probably got a few first year bugs.

I am still learning how to use voice commands (approx. 300) to control the navi and other functions. It is awesome car! :P Unfortunately, I only drive on weekends, as I have to take public transportation on weekdays.

It sounds like an adequate deal but I'd suggest you go to a local Acura dealership and have them run the VIN to ensure no accidents or repair problems.

Isn't it funny how its always "an older couple" or "a little old lady" who turn in the cars we wish to buy?
  • yraghu77yraghu77 Member Posts: 2
No, I don't think so. They would have given the same deal for a single car too. They have a lot of 2006 models without navi, so i guess they are trying to sell them off before the 2007 models come in.

    Keith,

I think all three dealerships troll this website to figure out what the other one is going to. If you scroll up you'll see krlesch got his for less than $32500. To be honest with you, I was VERY unimpressed with Bloomington Acura as far as professionalism goes. Buerkle is the place to buy in this town I think. You may want to start with the internet contact person there. I was going to go to Madison WI where I had a $32000 deal lined up. If you want to drive to Chicago, people are getting them there for $31500-31800. I don't know how worth it it is to you to drive to save a couple hundred bucks (ie time and gas money). Again, once I had a price at Buerkle, there was no more haggling or BS, and my salesperson spent almost 1.25 hours with me showing me all the bells and whistles. I was very impressed. I've bought 3 new cars in the last 7 years, and this was by far the best experience.

One other suggestion I have is to line up your money for the car now (ie get the loan or cash if you're paying cash, and walk in with a blank check and let them see you'll pull the trigger right then and there). To give the sales people credit, they must get tons of "feelers" put out to them, but when you show up ready to buy with the money lined up, I think it helps. Also, if you really are patient, I think you are right, you'll get the car for the price you want. Hold your cards tight. The only thing with waiting is if they get rid of most of the '06s, you might not get the exact color you want; however, if you are ok with 3-4 colors, then you should be fine. The car is AWESOME!! I absolutely love it! We looked at VW, Audi, BMW, Mercedes, and Infinity, and as far as car for the money, I don't think the others touch it. I just can't pull the $45k-55k trigger right now, and cars are poor places to put money anyway... I digress.
  • gonein60secgonein60sec Member Posts: 56
Thanks. I'm in the same boat as you taking public transportation during the work week. Voice command is cool but the navigation could use some work. I ask to show nearest post office near me in Queens and it brings up a list of ones in LI.
  • eseireseir Member Posts: 26
a brand new one for $29500 plus the $499 dealer fee (so essentially $29,999) for a base TL. I think the $26850 would have been a very fair deal BUT when you consider the fact that it is already a one year old car and soon to be a two year old car, Maybe buying a new one at these prices vs what people where paying even a year ago, the new one makes it more of a compelling buy. Also the 05 had 2.5 years left of warratny vs the 4/50K that I am getting now. ANd just as important, all the 06's include a 6/70K powertrain warranty not available in the earlier years. Then you got the choice of color thing , free oil change and everythng starts to look even better. Granted a low mileage 05 with 5800 miles is a rare find. BUt as someone else mentioned here. They are using the "old person" used to own the car. Who knows? It is a Lexus dealer, but sometimes you have to question why is it that a 1.5 year old car has 5800 miles. At any rate this is one incredible car. A lot of car for the money. I drove a G35 and yes, it is a fast car, but not even close in quality of materials, equipment, and value. I also consider a loaded VW Passat 3.6. The car is superb, It was about $2500 cheaper, but the realibility, long term resale, and dealer service or network was a big concern. LOve the car, the toys, the color (Pearl white with beige), and the looks. Enjoy!

goingin60, just received a refund check from Curry for overpaid DMV fees. I didn't expect the check, which I will use for a tank of gas.

Yes, the navi is not perfect, because it does not always give you the shortest direct route. Also, like you said, sometimes the search function gives you irrelevant stuff. All in all, I think it is one of the better stock navi systems. If you venture over to the Avalon board, you will see many complaints about Avalon's navi.

I closed the deal on a new TL yesterday at Acura of Oxmoor in Louisville, KY:
    Price: 30750
    Dealership fee: 400
    TTL: 1865
    Total: $33,015
I've had issues with this dealership (and other Louisville-area Neil Huffmann-owned dealerships) before and was reluctant to go back, but dealt with a good salesman this time around. They almost lost me on his day off when I spoke with the used car sales manager (would not even consider matching offer from another dealer), but ultimately I went with the convenience of buying in town. The car was driven down from Columbus and not ready when I went in to do the paperwork, so the salesman delivered it to my house last night.
I spoke with dealers in Nashville, Lexington, and Indianapolis, and was prepared to drive to any of them if they offered a better deal. Oxmoor get to within ~$250 of Lexington's deal, and my wife preferred silver to Nashville's black/ black, so I stayed at home.
Many thanks to those of you who posted information on your deals. It certainly helped me save some money on mine! I'm already in love with the car, even though my driving time was cut short by the Stones concert at Churchill Downs.

One final bit of advice that I found online that I'll share here... I applied for a loan at Lending Tree and literally got a phone call from Capital One within 5 minutes of hitting the button. They overnighted me a blank check, which helped to get me a lower rate at the dealer. They were originally in the 8.5 to 9% range until I quoted them my Capital One rate of 6.35%, which they beat by 0.02%.
One further bit of information: they never saw any documentation from Capital One, so I could have told them they quoted me even less. Just a thought...
Now, I'm going for a drive!
  • lewhnhlewhnh Member Posts: 3
I went back today to sign the paperwork for the loan, and they had added $70 for some kind of fees to be paid to the bank, lein filing etc. I was pretty PO'ed, so I threatened to go home to get the Capotal One check. The finance manager then offered to reduce my rate from 6.33 to 5.84%, effectively saving me ~$400 over 60 months. I accepted, then had them roll the xzilon protection package into the loan, resulting in about the same payment as originally agreed.
Makes me wonder how low they really COULD have gone on the rate. Just another way the dealer makes money.

    Caltman,
Thanks for the info. I'm ready to pull the trigger on the purchase currently, so I really only went to Bloomington Acura to make sure that I liked the '06 TL and compare with a the comparably equipped all wheel drive '05 BMW 330xi with 25K on the lot. The BMW was nice to drive but the interior felt a little on the cheap side considering that the car cost over 45K new! The TL was just as tight to drive, had a little more room and felt more luxurious.
I am paying cash without a trade so I'm ready to go. I don't care about the color of the car (as long as it's not black or white) so I'll take whatever they have when the price is right!
Call me old school but I found the Navigation a little distracting, so I think I'll forego it.
As for the dealerships in the Twin Cities, I won't go to Bloomington now merely because I'm irritated with the tactics of the "Internet" sales person there. The internet person at Beurkle was very attentive and responded to every email very quickly so maybe it's worth the drive over.
I'm just bummed that I can't seem to get the prices that folks are getting in Chicago.....

It's becoming kind of obvious that the good deals on TL's are from big urban areas. If you're trying to negotiate with a dealership that is the only Acura dealership in town - they seem to exude some weird exclusivity, which is completely false.

I tried to deal with a small town Acura dealership and it was completely impossible. A short drive affords us the Baltimore/Washington D.C. area and they were much more accommodating.

Good price on the TL with a navi, although now, I feel like they (Acura) tricked me on the navi.... what a complete piece of junk! I have a portable Garmin and a navi in another vehicle so I feel qualified to comment on this. The car is fantastic and I'm really impressed and left wondering why such a great car wasn't complemented with a great navigation system.... The thing plots routes that don't even make sense and there is absolutely no detail in the mapping. Alpine is the vendor.

Enjoy your new TL, just turn off the navi or much better.... Save your money and get a TL without it.

Acura dealer in Richmond acted like they were doing me a favor by selling the '06 TL at invoice ($32,800 w/ destination). Went to Pohanka in Northern Virginia instead, and they offered $1000 under invoice and were willing to include the 2.9%/4.9% APR special that Acura is running along with floor mats and wheel locks. Oh, and they gave me about $1000 more on my trade. I probably could have tried to deal more, but I was taken aback by what a better offer they had for me. Once again it seems that the sales managers in 1-dealer cities are operating under the assumption that customers won't go a little bit out of their way to get a much better deal.
    Price: $31,880
    Dealer Fee: $299
    TTL: $1100
Out the door just under $33,300

    Keith-
The reason you (and also myself and caltman) can't get similar pricing to the Chicago market is because we basically have very little competition between Acura dealerships here in the Twin Cities. Bloomington & White Bear Acura are both owned by the Luther group. So the competition is between Buerkle and Luther. In the Chicagoland area, I think that there are 6 or 8 dealeships - don't know if any are owned by the same group, but at least there is "some" level of competition to attract buyers. Up here, unless a buyer has their facts gathered, a firm price, and money in hand, Twin Cities Acura dealerships know that they really don't have to come off MSRP. BTW, I got the NAVI system, and it is not a distraction at all - switch the display to the Audio display and I bet that it won't bother you at all.
  • keith134keith134 Member Posts: 18
Oh I realize that there is very little "real" competition amongst the Acura dealers in the Twin Cities even though it is a big city but that's tough for me to accept. When I was younger I might've been willing to go to Madison or Chicago to save a couple hundred bucks but now it really an empty threat. I would love to get the contact info for a salesperson at Buerkle but one cannot publish one's email address as it is a violation of the forum policy.

I guess the bottom line is that I need to go with color choice(s), a final decision regarding the whole Navigation system and a firm price in mind and my checkbook in my hand!

Thanks to all the Twin Cities folks for the info on this forum.

    Hello,

I live in Seattle, WA and am interested in getting a '06 TL. Does anyone have any idea what the prices are here in WA? Can you recommend a dealership? It seems like there are 4 local dealers. Thanks!
  • socalguy2socalguy2 Member Posts: 4
Thanks to everyone who helped me close this deal. After researching this forum for last 2 months, I bought my 2006 TL with Auto/Navi from Acura@Mission Viejo ( Southern California Orange County) for 30,400 + Tax. My OTD price was 33,300. This price included the wheel locks and mud guards. I bought the Truck Tray seperately. I did not get the financing deal since I opted for the cash back.

I am very happy with this car. There is an amazing value in this purchase. I am very excited to own this TL.

This is an excellent dealership and I had a very pleasent buying experience. Would highly recommend this dealership to anyone looking to buy Acura in that area.

    Thanks again.

I've been going back and forth with several dealers in the Chicagoland area. So far the best quote i've received is $1,800 below invoice, for an '06 TL w/ Nav.

    Invoice including destination: $32,875
    Tax @ 7%: $2,175
    Doc: $57
    Plates and title: $143
    Cook county Tax: $15
    OTD Price: $33,465

I'm trying to get Muller Woodfield to match this price but they won't give in.

What kind of deal did you get from Muller? you text sounds more like a salesman promoting your dealership.
  • dgrazdadgrazda Member Posts: 18
Wow! Congrats on that deal! Anything we should know about the car? Like test drive miles or color? IF not, this is the new SoCal benchmark! Tustin and Santa Monica, take notice.

San Diego won't be within $1k of that price.
