what? I wish you could have sold your car to me. I would have loved to buy your car for that amount.
  • benjb53benjb53 Member Posts: 14
I know....I should've sold the car on my own! I knew I made a mistake but I guess you learn from your own mistakes!!! Dont overpay!!!! The 2004 and 2005 models are selling for much less than what you were quoted. Look on cars.com and search your local inventory!!!!

Keep me informed and good luck!!!!

I actually saw another car today.
    05 TL with Navigation
    25000 miles
Ford dealer, asking for $26K, it's a few hours drive from here, so I haven't seen the car. But I think the asking pricing sound like something that I can work with.
I'd like to hear some opinions.

I finally bought a new TL on March 31 after almost a week of email/phone negotiations. I live in MN and told the dealers that I would buy at invoice or close to it. Some of them would not even talk to me like they were offended or something. The lowest I could get was from Buerkle Acura, they said they would sell it to me for $200 over invoice. After some talking to them turned out that they were not talking about $31,518 invoice that is widely known, but some other "invoice" of about $31,800. After I pressured them on the reason of this invoice discrepancy they finally admitted that their "invoice" included some internal fees. They would not come down on price and wouldn't include the protection pkg in this price even after I told them I'd have to go to Chicago to get a better price. None of the dealers in MN expressed any interest in competing w/ Chicago.
I had a few quotes at or slightly below invoice from a number of Chicago dealers. One of them - McGrath in Morton Grove offered to beat any written offer by 5% of a discount (from MSRP). After emailing and talking to them on the phone for a day I got them down to $31,290 including protection pkg.
I went to Chicago on the 31st, spend about an hour and a half going over some stuff at that dealership after which sales mgr showed up and started feeding me some BS about the price not including protection pkg. They were playing "broken phone" game w/ me which I did not appreciate in the least. These people gave me an impression of the sleaziest used-car salesmen you could ever come across. I just stood up and walked. Called "Ed Napoleon Acura & Kia of Elmhurst" that I also talked on the phone the day before. Asked them if they could go below invoice. Right away they said they'd go $100 below invoice w/ protection pkg included if I buy on that day (last of the month). Took me more time to get there (got lost on the way) than to do all the paperwork. Less than an hour to buy a car, do financing, get instructions on car operation - everything. What night and day difference between the dealers! I just can't say enough good things about that last dealership. Highly recommended.

Sounds like a great deal to look into. Make sure there are no strings attached, but I'd say to definitely make the phone call.
  • markspinosamarkspinosa Member Posts: 18
Did you at least get the navigation system to help you find your way home? haha. Sounds like a steal if you did!

If you don't mind me asking, how did you pay for the car - cash, finance, etc.? I got 4.9% after putting $10k down.
  • kon2kon2 Member Posts: 8
1.9 financing. I also got 7-year extended warranty (really only 3 year in addition to standard 4-year) w/ 5-year wheel/tire damage protection for $1260. It's cancelable within 30 days, I probably will cancel it.
  • markspinosamarkspinosa Member Posts: 18
Wow, 1.9% financing?!? How'd you work that deal?

Did you put a sizeable down payment, or finance most of the vehicle's price?
  • new2carsnew2cars Member Posts: 71
I bought a 2007 Acura TL with navi this past Saturday at Acura of Mission Viejo in Southern CA. The TLs are hot down here! Silver was hard to find but they had it! The OTD price was $36,470.00. None of the dealerships in San Diego were able to match this price. Due to the slight distance, I took the train (40 mins) and the salesguy picked me up at the station. I qualified for the 1.9% financing and they had the car ready for me to drive home after all the paperwork was complete. I am a very proud and happy TL owner! :)

Is there a break-in period for the TL? The salesguy said there isn't really one because of how the car is made. Is that true? Should I still take it easy on it?

    Thanks for your input!
  • kon2kon2 Member Posts: 8
It's available to everyone with a good credit score from Honda America (for select new Acura and Honda models). Doesn't even require any down payment.
  • chamizchamiz Member Posts: 2
Anyone dealt with John Holtz Acura in Rochester before? I would like to get an automatic 2007 TL Type-S in Kinetic Blue Pearl. They quoted me an internet offer of $37,000. I want to get it down to near the invoice price.
  • nk582nk582 Member Posts: 12
I live in Philadelphia , so i haven't dealt with them but I'm about to pick up a White 07 S Type on Friday and I paid 35,800 + TT with the trunk matt and floor matts included....just letting you know you can get a better deal

Hi guys, I'm still looking around for used TL.

    Saw this:
    06 TL with Navigation
    37000 miles
    $27500 OTD price

What do you guys think about this price? I personally think it's took much and be honest, it's out of my budget. But I think I can live with $26500. And what up with 37K miles in one year, carfax showed exact one year of useage. The previous owner must be driving it like carzy every day.
    My question:
1, It is a good price? if not, what would be a good price.
2, Should I be worried about a one-year-old car with 3 years' worth of mileage on it? Does that hurt the engine?
    Thanks in advance.
  • armanipatrickarmanipatrick Member Posts: 37
Looks kinda high to me because of the high mileage racked up in 1 year. What do edmunds and Kelly BB say?
For a few thousand more you might be able to get a new '06 if they are still around.
  • niceguysanantoniceguysananto Member Posts: 12
KBB says trade in worth about $23000 in good condition.
Edmunds says trade in worth $25000 in good condition.
They vary a lot. I think you're right, a brand new 06 is probably worth only $31000. After all, the car has about 3 years worth of mileage on it.
I think I can offer $26500 OTD for this car, do you think my offer is too high? too low?
  • armanipatrickarmanipatrick Member Posts: 37
That is almost $2k lower than the OTD quote I got.
    What state are you in?
  • armanipatrickarmanipatrick Member Posts: 37
    barinchat,
I got a quote from Montclair Acura yesterday for $34,295 + TTL. Did you buy your car from Montclair? Could you tell us what your OTD breakdown was?
    Thanks,
    Armani

I own an '06 TL. They told me the same regarding breaking it in. I couldn't notice a difference, but let me put it to you this way: it's your baby, and it's beautiful, take the time to show if off and ride in luxury!

On a side note, how much did you put down and still get the 1.9%?
  • barbinchatbarbinchat Member Posts: 5
I haven't purchased yet but the sheet I was given with the price quote listed the sales tax @ $2379, tag fees @ 254, documentation fee $ 206.50. I dealt directly with the sales manager. When I went in I told them that the best offer I received so far was 33500+destination - he immediately told me he could beat that price. Offered 33999 and said he'd take off 200 (100 if I got the car serviced 1 time there and 100 for being a first time buyer of them) which brought it down to 33800. I realize the $100 off for getting it serviced is a ploy - but in all likelihood I would get it serviced there since it is so convenient to my office.

FYI -The sales manager isn't in on Wednesdays - however I am going back today to actually decide on the color combo I want. Maybe I can negotiate alittle on the rear wing spoiler I want on the car.

    hope this helps

Does that mean I just drive surface streets and drive it with lots of love and care? I've been driving it to and from work which requires the freeway. Sorry, this is my first NEW car in 12 years so I'm trying to learn how to care for it.

I put $10K for the downpayment. The 1.9% is for 36 months. There was the option for 24 months but the payments would have been larger.
  • new2carsnew2cars Member Posts: 71
What type of gas should I be filling up the TL with?
  • stlacurastlacura Member Posts: 26
91 octane or higher, which will probably equate to 93 since I don't know of many stations that carry 91.
  • armanipatrickarmanipatrick Member Posts: 37
    Good luck with your purchase.
I'm going in this weekend for a test drive. I got a similar quote, including with destincation charges - $33725.
Let us know how it turns out.
  • armanipatrickarmanipatrick Member Posts: 37
I think at this point it's a personal call. I suppose the high price attests to Acura's good resale value. I would at least have a good mechanic give it a thorough check up.
  • chkntonychkntony Member Posts: 38
    I live in Maryland.
I could got it as low as $35,100 but that dealer said it was only for certain color (which it didn't made sense to me). I end up paying little more in the other dealer which had the color i wanted.
  • chamizchamiz Member Posts: 2
Is that price $36,200 for your TL Type-S at John Holtz? I want to know how to get it that low. They gave me an internet offer of $37000 and when I offered lower, they did not respond back for days. Do you just go in and demand that price?
  • toamitanandtoamitanand Member Posts: 2
A dealer has quoted me his last 2006 TL w/o Nav for $30700

It has lot of extra stuff:

    Wooden Steering Wheel
    Wooden Dash
    Wooden Shift Knob
    Tint
    Lip Spoiler
16' Special Alloy Wheels (says worth $1900, true or not??)
    Side Molding
    Phatam Etch

Please let me know if you guys think it is a good deal.

    Thanks
  • kennyg8kennyg8 Member Posts: 225
I would not pay anything more than $28k for that "new" car. The "extra stuff" adds little value, especially the 16" special alloy wheels (when the standard ones are 17").

Is there a consensus on the utility of the extended warranty. Accepted wisdom is to reject them out of hand. That's why I ask. I've been offered an extension of the regular warranty to 8 years/100k miles for $2000 on my new 2007 TL .
  • kon2kon2 Member Posts: 8
This seems a little overpriced. I agreed to get 7-yr/85K extended warranty (really 3 yr/35K additional) plus 5-yr wheel/tire accidental damage protection for $1260 when I bought my TL. It's fully cancellable within 30 days, I'm planning checking out exact terms first (supposed to receive them in the mail shortly) and then probably cancel unless I find the terms extremely accommodating.
  • vicnationvicnation Member Posts: 33
The cost for the AcuraCare 8 year/120k miles is actually $1,415. That is what it costs the dealer. I think it is worth buying if you plan to keep the car a long time and you buy the car with nav. The nav system operates so much of the electronics and costs about $2k to replace (right now). I'm sure the price will go up in a few years. You can buy the warranty for $100 over cost but you will have to work to get it.

    06 TL with Navigation
    37000 miles
    $27000 OTD price

And any dealer can sell me the warranty, not just the one I purchased the car from. Is that correct?
  • a4teachera4teacher Member Posts: 2
Just picked up our 2007 Acura TL with Navi. The only additional accessory was wheel locks for $65.00. Normally we try to wait until the last day of the month to buy a car (Dealers are usually more flexible at the end of the month)but we were ready to buy so we went for it. Armed with the invoice price of $33,807 we decided we would ask for $35,000 "out the door" We ended up getting the car we wanted for $33,458 or $35,500 "out the door"($349 below invoice). Close enough for us. Thanks to Edmunds and all the people who post their buying experiences.

I just bought a 07 S Type yesterday for 35,700 + tt the dealer threw in the all season floor mats and the trunk tray. I also purshased the extended warranty and gap insurance. I paid 1340.00 for the warranty and 320.00 for the gap insurance.
  • vicnationvicnation Member Posts: 33
Yes, any Acura dealer can sell you a AcuraCare warranty. You don't have to buy from the dealer you bought the car from. It works well if you have a new vehicle with very low miles.

You may have to work the price down because most dealers like to make a $500 to $700 profit on that warranty. It's not like dealers have these warranties taking up shelf space in inventory. Most will cut you a deal if you stick to your price. There are some being sold on the internet that might interest you. Check around if your local dealer wont work with you.
  • kennyg8kennyg8 Member Posts: 225
Is the warranty underwritten by Acura or the dealership? If the latter, and if the dealership is not financially sound, your warranty may become worthless if the dealership goes belly up and shutters its doors.
  • armanipatrickarmanipatrick Member Posts: 37
Just got back from a hectic day of shopping around for the Acura TL w/navi. I spent the last week doing research and obtaining quotes over the internet/phone.
One dealer quoted me $33710 (including destination charge). My OTD price was around $36510 (that darned 7% NJ sales tax). The salesman at this dealership was pleasant and not very pushy.
I went to the 2nd dealership with this price. They tried to push a color I didn't really want for about $300 less. I didn't bite. My whole attitude was I didn't really care to haggle. If they couldn't match the deal I was offered elsewhere it was fine with me. I would've walked away. Nothing personal. This felt like an old school car buying experience complete with several "let me go talk to my manager" moments. Eventually he came back with an offer for the color I want for $33210 for an OTD of about $36000.
Both prices are below invoice. I'm not revealing the names of the dealers because I'm still shopping.
I'm tempted to go with the offer that is $500 cheaper though they were not as nice as the other dealership What do you guys think of the prices? Anyone want to throw in their 2 cents?
  • dperisdperis Member Posts: 6
which period of extended warranty to did you get for 1340?
  • vicnationvicnation Member Posts: 33
The AcuraCare warranty is an Acura warranty that can be used at any Acura dealership. Beware of other types of warranties. Make sure you read the fine print and find out what is covered and not covered. Also, aftermarket warranties may not be accepted at all dealerships.

I've heard of other types of warranties that are pretty good but you have to do a lot of legwork to find out if it's best for you. I bought the AcuraCare warranty although the dealership was pushing something else.
  • kennyg8kennyg8 Member Posts: 225
Good point! I understand that the extended warranty can be purchased anytime before expiration of the standard factory warranty (4 yrs/50k miles). I presume that the premium for the extended warranty increases when the factory warranty draws closer to expiration, correct? If so, is there a pro-rated schedule out there that consumers can refer to?
  • nk582nk582 Member Posts: 12
As far as i know it is from Acura but i'm not totally positive. the dealer is very financially sound. I'll try to find out
  • nk582nk582 Member Posts: 12
I don't understand your question, the warranty extended the original warranty to 84 months or 100,000 or maybe 120,000 miles...i think it's 100,000 miles
  • holla322holla322 Member Posts: 25
i was looking for a new tl 2007 with navi and my budget is about 33200. I am located in the metropolitan NY area and would be open to drive to NJ or CT to pick up the car. THe lowest price i got was 33800. Do you think i should wait til the summer to pick up the car or should i purchase it now? thank you for any advise on this.
  • markspinosamarkspinosa Member Posts: 18
Most people have loyalty to the almighty dollar. Others would argue that service is more important.

Do you feel that you'd receive the same service post-purchase if something went wrong with the vehicle from the "friendlier" dealership? If so, pay the premium and be done with it.

Remember, you're buying luxury not a KIA. I wouldn't sweat too much over $500.
  • roubaixroubaix Member Posts: 3
I was just quoted $1500 down and $465/month for 36 months 12k/year on an 07 TLS lease (this includes all taxes and fees). I live in Northern NJ and like the dealer. Unfortunately I lost sight of the key numbers during our discussion. How bad did I screw up or am I on the right track with the numbers above?
  • dperisdperis Member Posts: 6
I was shown a matrix at the dealership that allowed for a wide variety of extended warranties based on time and distance. The eight year warranty, for instance, came with either the 100k distance or the 120k distance.
  • armanipatrickarmanipatrick Member Posts: 37
    holla322,

Does 33800 include destination charges? Does your budget of 33200 include TTL? Don't forget that taxes alone will be 2k+ in the NY area.
  • rwheilerrwheiler Member Posts: 15
roubaix, I say good deal ,sign away that $1500 includes cap cost and tags ??? GOOD DEAL . Please post dealer name as i am close to making a move. THANKS
  • vicnationvicnation Member Posts: 33
I don't know what the price for that warranty is but with a little research on the net, you should be able to find more info. I looked at curryacuracare . com and see that their price for an 8 year/120k warranty is now $1,710. Their price in January for the same warranty was $1,415 and would have meant no profit for them. They had not updated their pricing at the time I got the quote and didn't reflect the new-year price increase. Prices were raised in January and may have been raised again since then.

The price for their 7yr/100k AcuraCare warranty is $1,260. I think they are trying to make $100 - $300 profit from their warranties. I would get a quote from one of these sites and bring it in with you and have them match it unless you want to try to bring down the price even more.

Good luck and let us know what happens.
