Hi. I've been following this forum for a while. Lots of great tips! I'm ready to take the plunge and buy a new TL w/navi. Anyone know good prices/dealers in the SW Ohio area? I'm getting initial phone quotes of 35,295 before TTL...I know from this forum that's way too high! Any ideas/help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks :)
  • tballertballer Member Posts: 19
My advice, come to cleveland...I have not negotiated yet, but my lowest initial quote was $34,350 for a TL w/ navigation. I used the internet to receive quotes from a bunch of dealers.

Of course, I am still going to try an whittle them down, so any further advice would be welcome.
  • tigertailtigertail Member Posts: 4
How did you initially contact the dealers for internet price? Did you go thru the dealer websites, or other means? Good luck w/your negotiations! When you close the deal, could you post the dealer name and your final OTD price (minus TTL)? I'll keep you posted on my negotiations too!

I used sights like Edmonds, Cars.com and maybe one other. There should be a link somewhere for you to request a quote. You just select the car you want and contact information and they get back to you with quotes over email.

I just wanted to share my car buying experience; hopefully it can help someone else in this endeavor. I started a couple of months ago reading this post as well as other posts on acurazine to see what people were paying for the new 2007 TL and TL type S.

Before I contacted any dealers, I made up my mind that it will be a TL type S. I debated on getting the 6 speed manual or the Auto with paddle shifters. Keep in mind that I live in Southern California where traffic can be brutal. I had just sold my 5 series BMW 5 speed manual. I really enjoyed driving the BMW especially with the manual tranny. My concern is/was that it would be difficult to sell because not that many people are interested in driving a manual in So Cal...Oooops I digressed a bit.

The one advantage we have living in Southern California is that we have about 15 Acura dealers just in the Los Angeles/Orange County area (within ~30 miles). I contacted all of them using this site requesting a price quote for a TL type S. I received several (7 or 8) online quotes. Keep in mind that the MSRP including destination is $38,795 with an invoice price of $35,638 (again this includes dest). Most quotes received were $500 - $800 above invoice ($36,138-$36,438). Again, all of these include destination, only extras would be Tax, title, license and your documentation fees which are typically $45-75. There were two dealers that responded with more aggressive quotes of $34,999 +TTL from South Bay in Torrance and $35,100 +TTL (this included the pro package) from Sierra Acura.

Now the fun begins. I contacted all of the dealers via phone and ask for the internet/fleet managers. I asked them if the had the vehicle I wanted which had to be a manual tranny, with the Ebony/Silver interior, and I was somewhat flexible on exterior color. First exterior color choice was Kinetic Blue, then Carbon Bronze, then White. Most dealers didn't have manual tranny cars. Some had one or two in black or silver which I didn't want. Black too hard to up keep as well as too hot in the summer. And I already had a silver color car. Most dealers said it would NOT be a problem for any TL type S to be had at $500 over invoice. Just a matter of finding my preferred color combination.

When I was contacting the dealers, there was only one that had the TL type S with 6 speed manual in Kinetic blue with Silver/Ebony interior. I figured that my chances of getting the lowest price possible for this specific vehicle will be slim. I will probably end up paying more than I have to get the color combination that I want.

During my communication with one of the dealers, the internet manager warned me about a couple of dealers in the area that send out these low quotes through e-mail just to bring in customers. She kept on saying that customers that receive lower quotes from these dealers, when they go there, the dealers add on additional charges and markups to raise their profits, or do a bait and switch. Those customers end up in her dealership afterwards buying from her instead. I am aware of these tactics as I typically help friends, family, and coworkers buy new vehicles.

I am NOT a broker, just a person that tries to help and enjoys the car buying experience. On the average, I help buy about 15-20 cars per year (again not for me but for others). I do NOT make any money out of this; I just do it for fun. I know you think I am nuts...Sorry I digress again.

I Called South Bay Acura last Friday night and asked if I could come in and check out the vehicle I was interested in. When I arrived, the vehicle was already pulled up for me. I met with the internet manager and his assistant promptly escorted me for a test drive. They were both very pleasant and courteous. After the test drive, I asked the internet manager if he could include the pro package for the price of $35,100 (this included destination). He agreed, and walked with me to the Parts dept. to check if they had the painted mud guards in Kinetic Blue. Parts had them. I told him that I wasn’t ready to purchase that night as I was waiting to sell my old car the following day (Saturday). I told him that if everything went OK with my old car, I would be back Saturday afternoon to purchase the vehicle. He said no problem, and went ahead and authorized the service folks to install the wheel locks, and the painted mud guards so the vehicle would be ready for me on Saturday.

On Saturday, I completed selling my car and called the Internet Manager to tell him I would be coming in the early afternoon. He indicated that the car is ready and all the accessories (wheel locks, painted mud guards, and trunk tray) have been installed. When I arrived, the vehicle was sitting in the delivery area cleaned up, detailed and ready to go. I was greeted by his assistant. We talked for a few minutes regarding financing and the typical stuff. Few minutes later, he introduced me to the finance manager. Finance manager asked if I was interested in any of the extras, lojack, paint protection, gap insurance, etc. I declined. Again no pressure from the finance manager to buy any extras. How refreshing was that. Completed filling out and signing all the paperwork in about 20 minutes.

From the time I walked in the front door of the dealership until the time I was handed my keys was just a little under an hour. This was the fastest and smoothest car buying experience I ever had. This statement really means something, keeping in mind that I am involved in about 15-20 deals per year for the last 4-5 years. In addition, I was able to buy the exact car I want for an EXCELLENT price. Everyone I dealt with at South Bay Acura was very professional, courteous, respectful, and not PUSHY. It was an awesome experience.

Final numbers on the deal for my Kinetic Blue 6 speed manual tranny Type S with Sliver/Ebony interior is $35,100. This price includes destination, installed painted mud guards, wheel locks, and trunk tray. Additional fees I paid were: $2,902 LA County Taxes, $281 DMV fees, $55 doc fees, for a total Out the Door (OTD) price of $38,338.

Based on my experience, I would highly recommend South Bay Acura’s Internet Manager. You can find his name from the Acura.com website, top of the page, locate a dealer, near Torrance, Ca.

    Good Luck to all,

    Spyder.

PS, I will review the car later after the break in period.

I received an offer of $34,050 on a TL w/ navigation in NE Ohio. This is $350 over invoice. Any thoughts?

Great news! :shades: I drove home a TL w/navi (Carbon Bronze/Ebony) today! OTD price of $33,800 + TTL. The dealership was Ed Martin in Indianapolis,IN. Great sales staff there. Walked in the door after final negotiations by phone. No high pressure, no pushing of products or services I didn't want. A dream car to drive! Now to learn all of the neat things this car can do! The sales person did go over everything and how they function, but I've still got to play around with it to learn! :)

Hi - received a TL/Navi quote yesterday from Montclair Acura of 33,800 + TTL. Taxes in NJ are another $2600 approximately.

Only thing I'd like to add to the car is the spoiler - does anyone know what the markup on those usually are and how negotiable accessories like that are? I'm thinking it's best to have it on the car when I take it home - but I could be wrong. Would I get a better deal buying it after the fact at someplace other than the dealer??

    Thanks

    Hey there -
I'm not sure if you are referring to the 2007 TL, but I will share my advice regarding my 2006 Acura TL w/ Navi purchase (5 speed, AT).
I, too, was considering several accessories (primarily the spoiler and underbody kit). The cost for these items was significantly higher than I expected relative to what one would pay for after-market products.
The problem? Well, my new TL was my baby, and I couldn't stand to think of someone else installing the after-market part and making a mistake. And for what, to save a couple of extra bucks?
The decision: I decided that as much as I was into the look, that an Acura is primarily a luxury car and that my black beauty looked just fine without the spoiler, saving me both money and a hassle.
I bought the 2006 Acura TL with Navigation System (5 speed Automatic Transmission) from Acura of Boston for $32,750 before any fees/applicable taxes. That was the final quoting price.
Here is the breakdown of all the costs incurred leading up to the Out The Door (OTD) price that many like to discuss:
    Final Offer: $32,750
    MA 5% Sales Tax: $1,637.50
Title Preparation & Doc. Fee: $299.75
    New License Plates: $84
    FINAL OTD PRICE: $34,771.25

Thanks very much for the info... The TL is a gorgeous looking car with or without the spoiler, I just happen to like the sportiness that the spoiler adds.

My current car is a 95 Honda Accord - after 12 years of driving something very plain looking I'm more interested in going for something alittle interesting looking. I'm looking at the Redondo Red and I love the way that color looks with the spoiler. The quote I received was for a 2007.

After months of waiting, watching and researching, I finally drove home my (well, my wife's) new white diamond pearl/ebony TL with Navi yesterday.

I paid $33,807 + TTL which came to $35,210 OTD in VA.

I had a fantastic buying experience at a Northern Virginia dealership. I'm happy to share the details with anyone looking in that area. Just email me at nnd6a at hotmail.

    I love this car!

Does anyone know how much accessories cost the dealer? Specifically, I wanted to know the dealer cost for:

-Acura Music Link (for iPod) - $214 on the Acura website
    -All-weather mats - $132
  • spyderredspyderred Member Posts: 138
When I was buying my TL, I wanted to buy some accessories as well. After some searching on the internet, I found that Curry Acura Parts had some very good prices. You may want to print their prices and take it with you to your dealer and see if they match their prices. If not, you can always order from Curry online. You can find their website by doing a search for curryacuraparts.

I am not sure about dealers cost but Curry's price for the all season mats are $99, not sure about the ipod link.

I'm about to pull the trigger on an 07 S Type....my dealer told me not to buy the music link because there was some issues with it. he advised me to wait because Acura is supposed to be coming out with a new one, redesigned or something. the price for the exsistng one was about 450.00 installed and he said the new one should be about the same

I have just got an email quote on a TL-S for 35,137 [$500 below invoice] plus 149 doc fee. This was the initial email quote and is $1700 below the quote from another dealer when I walked in [which was $2000 off MSRP]. This is before talk of the trade so I am wondering if there is a new incentive and this quote is legit?
  • tballertballer Member Posts: 19
Thanks everyone for the input and help!

I have agreed in principle to a TL for for $33,956. I also got the dealer to throw in all-weather mats and to install the ipod link at cost (whatever that means) when the new design comes out. However, now he is saying that he only wants to sell me what's on the lot. I think I want blue with ebony interior. He said to get that, he'll have to work a dealer trade and that the car likely will have the propack, in which case he'd charge me more.

The propack sounds good, but I am not sure I really need it.

my question is this: how hard is it for the dealer to order my color from the factory if it's not on the lot? Am I out of place for walking away from the deal if he can't do it for the price I was quoted?

    As always, thanks.
  • liferulesliferules Member Posts: 531
No, you're not out of line. It's not a deal until you sign the paperwork.

It is absolutely easy to order your car to spec for their next supply. Just tell them you want that, at their agreed upon price. Do not let them try to charge more for this, as it isn't any extra charges to them.

Good luck, and if they get hostile, then definitely walk.
  • kennyg8kennyg8 Member Posts: 225
For the same price, dealers prefer that you take a stock car from their own lots, as they do not want to continue incur floor plan charges. They also try to avoid doing an exchange with another dealer unless they have a good relation with that other dealer and it is close by. In any event, if your offer price is reasonable, i.e. they still make some profit on the deal, they should accommodate your request.
  • g35ortlg35ortl Member Posts: 10
That sounds like a great price. I would also like to know if there is a new incentive. I hope to buy yet this month. It seems strange that there would be a new incentive so close to the end of the month though.
  • jewels6jewels6 Member Posts: 4
What area of the states did this quote from? We are located in the Northwest and are interested in the same vehicle.
  • markspinosamarkspinosa Member Posts: 18
My $32,750 quote was from Acura of Boston, located near Boston/Peabody area of MA. This quote was given over the phone, after I explained I have talked to several other dealers and was ready to buy immediately at the lowest price.

Had I not prefaced with that information, most likely the quote would have been more. I did receive another quote from a different Acura dealership (it was their "Internet" price) of $33,100.

Let me know how you make out. Best of luck!

I'm thinking of offering $32,000 for a cash deal on a 2007 TL with navi. I never pay the dealer for taxes, title, and tags since it's easy for me to do that myself. I want to make sure I get all accessories such as floormats included that should be included -- is there anything to ask for specifically? I don't want pinstriping or any additions.

Is $32,000 a good offer or a bit too high or low? Once I make up my mind, I'm firm and willing to walk to another dealer, but I want to know that I'm making a reasonable and fair offer.

Its a bad system with poor data. Go get a Garmin-not the cheapest and you'll thank yourself for a long time. Acura charges too much for upgrades also $200 and Garmin is much less for much better data.
  • sbonnewcarsbonnewcar Member Posts: 3
Pretty misleading statements. The POIs (points of interest) aren't great but the mapping function is flawless (at least in NE where I live). Also, the Acura Navi is fully integrated, whereas the Garmin isn't. So it comes down to personal preference...you'll probably get a little more feature/functionality with a Garmin, but it won't be integrated and you'll have an ugly little box sticking out somewhere inside your car.
  • carteachcarteach Member Posts: 179
Exactly, a little ugly add-on box with a wire dangling down. I'm the one who started this thread and I still regret it. What I'm using now is the E-Z Navigator feature on my Verizon cell phone. I'm sure it isn't as good as some of the Garmin; but it gets me there, offers text to speech, POI (which I haven't used) and it's not ugly. I can fold it up and put it in my pocket or purse when I'm done!

    Hello all,

I told by a dealership that the TLs have "new invoice" prices and in order to give me the 2007 TL that I want for the price I want, they can give me a TL with an "old invoice." What's the difference between the old invoice and new one? What does that mean exactly? Thanks!
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 269,069
There was a price increase somewhere around February 1st.. Old invoice cars would have been manufactured prior to the price increase...

I know that Edmunds.com shows special financing going through the end of April but how reliable is this information? None of the dealers I spoke to would confirm it.
  • new2carsnew2cars Member Posts: 71
Thanks! Do you know how much of an increase it is?
  • new2carsnew2cars Member Posts: 71
I was offered $36,470.00 on a 2007 Acura TL (auto) with navi in Orange County, CA. Is this good?
  • kon2kon2 Member Posts: 8
So are the invoice prices currently displayed on endmunds.com the real current ones? Or the old ones? I'm a little confused about this whole price increase because MN dealers quote different invoice prices (higher than Edmunds) citing this price increase while Chicago dealers quote exactly what is on Edmunds.
  • echethamechetham Member Posts: 22
NO, thats not even that good on a Type S

I didn't clarify- that was $36,470.00 OTD on a 2007 TL with navi. This includes So. Cal's TTL. Is this a good deal OTD? I want to make my decision this weekend. So far, every other dealer hasn't been able to match it.
  • rambler216rambler216 Member Posts: 4
You are basically getting the TL for 33,500 without TTL. Check the prices inland. Riverside I got one for 32,500, but they would not give me the 3.9% financing.
  • kennyg8kennyg8 Member Posts: 225
Invoice on TL with navi is 33.8k (plus delivery charge). If your dealer is giving it to you at 32.5k, there has to be Acura incentive involved. I don't see the incentive on Edmunds or elsewhere. Care to elaborate on your deal (trade in, demo car etc).
  • rambler216rambler216 Member Posts: 4
There is 3.9% financing on the TL's. They would not give me that rate of financing, but set it up through Chase at 5.99%. I assume if they do not use the 3.9% financing they get something back from ACura/Honda. In addition Chase probably gave them 600 to 800 for the loan which they will get after I make three payments. In addition they have holdbacks and other dealer incentives. The dealerships in S. CA seem to have an abundance of inventory.

My trade in was an 03 Mercedes 240 with a KBB trade value of 12,100. They gave me 12,600 on the trade. They will make a few grand on the trade in. The vehicle was not a demo, 1.6 miles and they had to remove the shipping plastic as I waited.
  • kennyg8kennyg8 Member Posts: 225
Thanks for the quick elaboration. Had your deal been a straight cash deal (i.e. no financing and no trade in), it would have been highly doubtful if your TL could be bought at 32.5k. Enjoy your new baby and congrats!!
  • rambler216rambler216 Member Posts: 4
What really aggravates the dealership is if you pay the loan off prior to making the 3 payments. They don't get their finders fee.
  • kennyg8kennyg8 Member Posts: 225
Is that what you intend to do :-) Is there a prepayment penalty though?
  • markspinosamarkspinosa Member Posts: 18
My dealer gave it to me for 32.75k, not 32.5k. There was no trade in. It was known and obvious that I did my homework on the vehicle, and that if they didn't offer me a competitive price, I would walk and buy the vehicle elsewhere. FEAR APPEAL - use it!
  • holla322holla322 Member Posts: 25
where is the dealer located? the lowest price i got was 33,800 and they would waive destination fee. They claimed the 33,800 was invoice but on edmunds.com it says its 33,137.Does your new car have a navi system?
  • markspinosamarkspinosa Member Posts: 18
The dealer is Acura of Boston. Yes, my car has navigation. Check out Yahoo! autos as well; they list both MSRP and invoice on there. $32,750 was the price I paid. Most people are saying that I got a great deal, which makes me even happier!

    Goodluck!

I sought several "internet prices" for a 2007 TL w/o Navi, and came up with a $32,500 price for southwestern PA. How does that price compare with actual purchase prices of other buyers? Thanks, Dan
  • niceguysanantoniceguysananto Member Posts: 12
    From an Acura dealer:

    2004 Acura TL with Navigation
    26,000 miles
    Automatic
    Certified Used Car

Things I don't like about 04 TLs are:
1, first year in the model change, many manufacturering problems.
2, the dash board meters look so cheap, look like some plastic sticking out of the surface with blue LEDs hidden under. Totally different from the 07 ones. 07 ones look very good.
3, navigation interface looks not as good as the new ones

Things I like about this car are:
    1, low miles
    2, certified

Dealer is asking for $28,995 which I think is way too much. Friends from the forum, how much do you think I should offer for this car?
  • markspinosamarkspinosa Member Posts: 18
Absolute ripoff! Not sure if you read my original post, but I bought a brand new, 2006, Acura TL 5 speed AT with Navigation System for $32,750.

As a side note, the STICKER price for an '04 Acura TL with Navigation System I looked at was $24k with 50,000 miles on it.

Additionally, an '05 TL with Nav. with 25,000 miles on it for $30k.

I believe the few extra grand spent on a new car is a better value, and definitely helps with the peace of mind.
  • niceguysanantoniceguysananto Member Posts: 12
Thank you for the reply. How much do you think I should offer for this car. I don't really feel like spending about 33K for something new, I can't afford that much. :-)
My idea was to buy a used luxury for the same price of a brand new accord.
  • bda1947bda1947 Member Posts: 20
KIM, car's Certified. Certified Warranty has a value and a real cost to it. Fair price on the car should be 25,500-26,500. Good luck.

I just traded in an 05' Acura Tl w/ Navi with 20000 miles on it and got $25000 for it....why does the dealer want sooooo much money? Look around dont get scammed!!

Hope this helps.....I live in NY
