Here is what I did last Monday, I went to the dealer walked around the showroom, the salesman I was to meet was on the phone so I went to the lot and checked all inventoried Tl's looking for the trim and color I wanted and found at least 3 first choice, 3-4 second choice and so on, then I took a Type-S (auto) for a test drive, I had asked if they had a manual, they did so I drove that as well, when I returned the salesman was wanting to talk numbers so to play along I agreed I started the bidding at invoice $35,638 no luck on that after back and forth of this the GM said his best $ was $36,500 but I think I can do better however no credit check or background check was asked for. Hope this helps.

Anyone have any tips, tricks or strategies on buying a Acura TL types S at or below dealer invoice. I am getting ready for a purchase. Also for those who have purchased a 07 TL would you go for the type s if so why or just settle for the TL w/navi.
  • demikkdemikk Member Posts: 9
Have you received any internet quotes, I have found out you can get them down between $250 and $500 from that quote.
  • dmeetridmeetri Member Posts: 17
    no, i haven't...

Try the internet. You don't have to deal with a pushy sales man in person and I got my cheapest quotes there. I decided to go with a TL with navi for many reasons. I looked at the Type-S and liked it a lot. However, the hp wasn't enough to me to pay the extra 2 grand. Not to mention that I actually like the styling better on the reg TL with the tail lights and headlights and I also didn't like the red interior lighting at all. The blue is much better in my opinion.

That said, there were a lot of great things about the Type-S like the wheels which I think are awesome even tho a lot don't like them. The custom stiching, two tone seating and the Kenetic Blue color!!!! I told the dealer that I would have gotten the kenetic blue if they had it on regular TL's. Instead I went with the new Carbon Bronze which is gorgeous as well.

i liked the Type S because it gave me a cushion feeling while accelerating the car....although there was no difference between TL and TL-S once you hit 40 MPH,...it could be Psychological but i felt it, and i like the red light inside plus it has noise cancelation.....My reasons may not sound valid enough to choose the S Type, but i liked it and i choose Type-S in white...

Has anyone purchased or considered either of the following accessories when purchasing their new TL's?

    -Clear Shield Hood Protectant
    -Diamon-Fusion Glass Treatment

Are either of these accessories worth the cost of having it applied by the dealer or is it cheaper to have it done by an aftermarket vendor? Or has anyone been able to get the cost of these accessories included in the OTD price of their TL?

    Thanks for your feedback.

Which protection package (A, B, or C) did you get included in the price of your TL? Or which additional accessories were included if not stated below?

    A) Splash Guards, Trunk Tray, Wheel Locks
    B) Splash Guards, Trunk Tray, All Season Floor Mats
    C) Splash Guards, Wheel Locks, All Season Floor Mats
  • demikkdemikk Member Posts: 9
Did you get a price on that clear shield hood protectant, I would consider it myself as I do most of my driving on Highways.
  • cudadazecudadaze Member Posts: 3
The price for the clear shield is $299 & the price for the Diamon-Fusion is $399 at the Acura dealer here in Minnesota.

i haven't bought it yet,,,,,will go this sunday....start hagling from the invoice price and see what happens.....what about u....
  • demikkdemikk Member Posts: 9
Looks like we have agreed on Type S Kinectic Blue with Ebony/Silver interior fresh of the truck w/ 3 miles on it, I started at invoice he would not go lower than 36,500 that includes all season floor matts trunk tray and wheel locks. I was going to hold out but the 3.9% finiance expires on the 30th which is Monday. If your dealer has plenty on the lot you should do well. FYI you might want to check what they have before haggling, I have found out they are more willing to come down with 1 they have in inventory, hope this helps let me know.

That's a great price but to truly judge we have to know the sales tax for state. Each percentage point of sales tax comes out to about $350-400 for the TL.
  • holla322holla322 Member Posts: 25
the price of the car they gave me was 33,567 and i live in westchester, ny so the tax rate is 7.375 so it came out to $36042 as the final OTD price. So what you guys think about the deal?
  • swgordonswgordon Member Posts: 13
Did they throw any thing in for free? Like splash guards, wheel locks, free oil changes, etc.. I'm going to purchase mine this weekend.
  • holla322holla322 Member Posts: 25
no they wanted an additional 150 dollars for splash guards. Are wheel locks standard on the new 07 TL ? do you think it would be cheaper to buy the splash guards from somewhere else or get it from dealer?
  • kennyg8kennyg8 Member Posts: 225
Holla, that is a very good price, in fact it is below invoice. Since Westchester got a lot of rain in the past several weeks, make sure your new car has not been submerged. If you buy splash guards from the dealer, they should installed them for you at no charge.
  • armanipatrickarmanipatrick Member Posts: 37
    holla322,
You got a good price. Hopefully you are closing this month so you can shoot for the 1.9% apr. It's best to negotiate accessories in the beginning. If you've agreed to the OTD they might not be willing to negotiate further.
I got a great deal on matching splash guards (gray pearl) and all-season mats for $188 from ebay (park ave acura in ohio). They were brand new and arrived quickly. Btw, I paid $33725 for my tl/navi a couple of weeks ago.

    HTH.
  • armanipatrickarmanipatrick Member Posts: 37
    holla322,
Correction: you got a good price, but $36042 can NOT be your OTD. That is just price + tax. You still have doc fees, title, registration and probably a couple of other small fees.
I paid $311 for registration for 4 years in NJ (dealer shouldn't make money on that; they will just charge the DMV fees) + $185 doc fees (they make money here) + $10 tire tax and temp registration fee.
Like I said the price you were quoted is fair, but go over each line item so there are no surprises.

I bought a TL with Nav today and paid $34990 out the door. In VA where tax is 3%. They also threw in wheel locks, all weather mats and splash guards. They also gave me way more than my trade in was worth.
  • demikkdemikk Member Posts: 9
I picked up the TL/S last night for 36450 w/trunk tray all season matts and wheel locks, I could not wait no longer if I was to hold out I might of gotten them to lower the price but the one I got was frsh of the truck still wrapped w/only 3 miles on it. Thank to all for your feedback. :) ">

I am planning to buy a 2007 TL within the next 6 months. From the Acura website I see that the special financing is valid till 7/2/2007.

I have a couple of questions: would the dealer negotiate a different price with and without financing? I was originally thinking of paying all or most of the price up front. In which case I can wait a few months (perhaps upto 2008 models hitting the lots) to get a better price. But then I am going to lose out on the special financing. But I wanted to see do they negotiate a different price with or without the special financing? Does it make sense to wait or not. I am not worried about losing the colors etc.

    Thanks in advance

    Siva-

You should negotiate the price of the car independent of financing. In fact, financing shouldn't even be mentioned until you've got an acceptable quote on paper. If they ask, tell them you want to agree on a price first before discussing financing.

I have a new '07 TL with navi and I park my car outside for work. Should I be worried about the navi system being in the sun for prolonged periods? If so, do you use windshield shades? I want to buy some shades, I just don't know what kind to get. Will metallic ones affect the navi since metallic tinting affects it?

    Thanks in advance!
  • scottm123scottm123 Member Posts: 1,501
A metallic window shade will not affect your Navi, as the Metallic material only affects the navi when you're using it.
If you worried about internal temps, you may want to look into Ceramic Window Tint.
It has no negative affect on the navi system and is well known for drastically lowering internal temps during the summer months.

We have one local dealer in Boise Idaho. The next closest is Portland Oregon. Edmunds TMV for an Acura TL base model with navigation for my zipcode is $35,000. The dealer says their lowest price is $36,300. Is Edmunds TMV supposed to be the Dealer's invoice without profit?

This price is much higher than other markets so I am not finding any other comparable consumer prices. Any ideas?

Has anyone tried using the new $500 cash to dealer on 07 TL? Can this offer be combined with the 1.9% financing?

You got a great deal, mate! I don't know much about molding, tinting and all that, but other than that, the free oil changes and car wash are great throw-ins.

Nice deal! Just purchased at Springfield Acura in NJ a '07 TL with Navi. This site was great in letting me know what the right price was.

Picked up the White/Ebony for $33,450 - with the 3.9% financing deal - it was very affordable!
  • holla322holla322 Member Posts: 25
did they throw in wheel locks and splash guards in your deal?
  • njericnjeric Member Posts: 6
    No - shoulda asked huh?

I live in Florida, and I want a 2007 Acura TL, automatic. (Don't want an S type, or navigation) Edmunds says invoice is $31,500. With tax (7%), fees, tag, title, yadda, yadda....I am being offered $34,000 OTD. Is this a good deal?

Should I ask for $31,500 OTD? (I am a newbie at buying cars, in case you couldn't tell...)
  • demikkdemikk Member Posts: 9
How many TL non navi do they have on the lot, if they have pretty many they might come down if they don't $34000 is at invoice once you add up doc fees and stuff. If you are OK with $34,000 ask them to throw in some extras such as trunk tray, all season floor matts, wheel locks, mud guard. Pick 2 or three and say You will give the 34k if you throw in....
    I hope this helps :)

That is a good deal, where in va did you get it from. I live in northern va. What was the name of your sales person.

    thanks in advance.

I got in Tx not Va.

just asking because i also bought the TL with navi (carbon pearl/black int) from there at a price of 33567 before taxes and we did not get anything either. According to some of the posts here, some dealers threw in some accessories.
  • njdriver29njdriver29 Member Posts: 6
Well, it's a bit frustrating as I'm all read-up on the TL Type S (first time Acura buyer) and have surveyed dch in Montclair and Springfield but the few Type S's I find are all with the auto tranny.

Not having even driven the TL yet, I'd like to find a dealer who has the car I want. DCH says they can custom order from the factory but a) Im skeptical how long this would take and b) I'm hoping to buy within the next couple of weeks.

Anyone have any suggestions or dealer recs? I also don't see a lot of pricing talk here on the Type S 6 spd -probably because there don't seem to be a lot of them around! I'm HOPING for an OTD around $38000...possible?
  • jewels6jewels6 Member Posts: 4
Fly one-way to Oakland, CA and work with Marin Acura. Pricing is competitive and you'll enjoy a mini-vacation as a bonus. We were out the door in less than 2 hours and experienced a pleasant drive back to the Northwest.
  • njericnjeric Member Posts: 6
I got that price of 33,450 from the Springfield internet contact. I didn't do any negotiating once I got in there.. I was too excited! I'm pretty sure I could have gotten some mats or something thrown in.
Picked up the car last night - it is sweet!
  • sbauersbauer Member Posts: 2
Thanks for the heads up. We will check it out.
  • njdriver29njdriver29 Member Posts: 6
thanks for the tip.....I will check that out.
It just amazes me that with the reintroduction of the Type S that there are so few 6 spds available (at least here in NJ). I'm almost tempted to save a lot of money and get the non-S for thousands less...
Think I'll mull it over for a few days and then go shopping this weekend.
  • njdriver29njdriver29 Member Posts: 6
Well, put out a lot of feelers and pricing is fairly consistent for the Type S - how do you guys think I'm doing so far? These are all assuming financing (so, they're probably factoring in the $500 rebate) -
Out the door (inc. tax, docs, dmv) - 38117, 38644, 38605.
This is with no haggling, internet quotes. My goal is to get a $38,000 out the door (or better), so this isn't too far off. If no one will beat the 38117, I might try to seal the deal with included wheel locks, or the "pro pack" as I've heard it refer to here.

QUESTION - anything I should watch out for the financing - e.g., are there any prepayment penalties in NJ, extra fees, etc? I'm shooting for 3.9% for 60 months.

The last factor is my trade-in, which I obvously won't bring up until my sale price is established. I'd greatly appreciate any tips or thoughts on how I'm doing so far.

    Thanks!
  • njericnjeric Member Posts: 6
I think with a little more talking you'll catch your goal of $38,000. I'd be a bit jealous, becuase I came in over 36,500 OTD on my Navi TL.

There are no prepayment penalties according to the finance guy I spoke to when I bought my car. But... @ 3.9% it would almost be silly to pay off early. You can get higher than 3.9% at a CD at the bank.... Honda financing is giving out free money!
  • sukeetsukeet Member Posts: 5
    Hello,

Did that price include the destination charge?
  • njericnjeric Member Posts: 6
Actually I was wrong - I came in at 35,700 or so OTD for the WDP '07 TL w/ Navi. Had a trade in of about 7500 - so I saved the sales tax on that portion - Savings of about $500 or so.

That price includes everything. Tax, destination, etching and registration fees.
