The amounts quoted are complete with all taxes, fees etc.
The dealer is Bridgewater Acura, as I mentioned the sales staff was very helpful.
It did not hurt that I have very good credit. Good Luck

i understand that i will have to pay tax. my budget includes destination fee. most dealerships i have been to waive the desitnation fee. So what you guys think should I wait on the price to go down or you think i can recieve it for around 33,200? thanks for any advice.

:confuse: I have a black 2004 TL with 43K miles. The interior looks good but it has a ding (grapefuit-size impression) in the front bumper and a foot-long scratch on a door. Edmunds says a "fair" tade-in value assessment in my area (CT) warrants a $19.5K price tag, while the "good" assessment comes closer to $22K.

Anyone have any real-world experience that can offer an opinion on which label/price would most likely be applied in my case?

$33800 is right around invoice (including DC), so it is a fair price. I got one quote for $33250. But what is unknown is how much 2007 prices will drop once 2008 models start rolling out. I'm not an experienced car buyer so I don't know how that works.
Also if you are picky about int/ext color you may not get your choice once the 07 inventory starts depleting. They don't make as many TLs as an accord or civic.
Personally the biggest selling point for me with the TL at the moment is the 1.9% APR financing. That is why I'm going to buy the car this month. They may have other deals once 08 debuts but I don't know if this sweet financing offer will be around.

Thanks everyone for all the helpful information in your posts. Went to Sussman Acura this weekend and picked up my 2007 Carbon Grey Pearl TL w/Navi. PRice including destination was $33,336. I added the deck lid spoiler too. It seems none of the dealers in Northern NJ that I talked to would even come close to that price (best price I got up here was $33,800). Doc fees were much less down there too.

I bought a TL (carbon bronze with ebony) last week. The final price was $33,956 and the dealer included winter mats and mud guards. So far so good. I love the car. Information is power and this blog was instrumental in getting the best price on the car.

The deal, however, was absolutely brutal and I will never buy from this dealership again. The only reason I didn’t walk out was because I knew I was getting the best deal possible. Hope this provides you with some entertainment...

Armed with everything I learned from this website, and carbuyingtips.com, I sought multiple internet offers. The lowest offer was in Akron, I followed up with that dealer and told him that in exchange for his lowest price, I would agree to buy from him unless someone else significantly beat his price. He quoted me $250 over invoice.

A second dealer in Bedford, which is much closer to where I live said he would knock another $100 off and throw in car mats. I told him I would think about it and call him the next day. He called me twice the next day anyway. When I told him I might want a color he didn’t have on the lot, he started telling me it would cost $150 to bring the car in and that he would have to charge me extra for the propack if it was already on the car.

So I called Akron back and he said he would sell me any color at the quoted price, nothing extra. I told him that Bedford had beat his price, but that I wanted to buy from him even though it was more inconvenient. He said flat out, buy from Bedford, I can’t beat their price. True to his word, he did give me his best offer.

So I went to Bedford and before I knew it, the two colors I was considering were sold. I then asked them to get me the color I wanted and they started trying to up charge for shipping the car and propack again. Sales manager #1 came out and was all confrontational with me. After saying I didn’t think I should have to pay for those items and that Akron was not going to charge me for them, he started raising his voice, “what do you want then? The deal was for what I have on the lot”

I pointed his attention to the fact that nowhere on the email quote that I received did it say that the price was contingent on inventory and (2) I wanted him to honor the price he quoted me. He said it would cost extra and offered to sell me a demo vehicle with about 4500 miles. He left to check the price.

He returned to tell me that he would sell me the demo. I asked how much and he said it would be the same as the internet price he quoted me. I said “no chance. I’ll take a new one.” He left again to try to locate a vehicle.

After a few minutes of talking with the sales man about how it would just be cheaper to go to Akron, and him agreeing with me, I told him I would not buy if they charged me extra. He left to talk to the manager again. At this point I’ll add that the sales man worked through the attached Volvo dealership and was a very likeable person, who was pretty straight forward with me throughout the whole process.

Realizing my dislike for manager #1, he wisely returned with manager #2. Unfortunately, manager #2 carried the same bad attitude. He came waiving a sheet of paper and complaining about all the work he was doing to locate the vehicle and that Akron didn’t have it and I’d have to pay more ($150 for the delivery and $280 for the Propack)…Akron wasn’t giving me the whole story and Akron could not easily remove the propack without leaving holes in the frame…I had his back was against because he was selling so low and if I wouldn’t pay extra then the deal was over blah blah blah. He was close to yelling—and we were on the show room floor.

His attitude ticked off my wife, especially when he said something to her like, “Is something wrong, can I get a smile? Are you OK?” She had been quiet all along and is generally nonconfrontational. She told him, “no, I’m not ok…you’re condescending and rude, who do you think you are treating us and your sales staff the way you do…I find it offensive, we were excited to buy a car today and now all we are getting is attitude … You’re mad because my husband is an educated consumer and knows what he is talking about, you shouldn’t treat people the way you do, it’s rude” This was totally contrary to anything I have ever seen her do.

At this point, I stood up and said that we were leaving, at which point he did a complete 180. He apologized, said he was frustrated with this deal and finding the car I wanted and didn’t mean to offend. I told him that it was dumb to take frustration out on his customers, who despite our better judgment, are still willing to buy a car from him. I told him that not only was he losing the sale for $150, because of the way he was treating me, he was also losing all of my service.

He then agreed not to charge me for shipping or mud guards. Knowing I could not get as near of a good deal from anywhere else, I eventually agreed. I am happy with the deal I got, but the negotiation was nothing short of a pain in the a**.

My salesman through the Volvo dealership was great, but the Acura dealership was far from a pleasant experience. The internet manager in Akron seemed to be very straightforward and I would work through him before I go back to Bedford.

Thanks to everyone for their help over the past month. Like I said, the car is awesome.

Sorry, forgot to mention we ended up buying at Criswell Acura in Annapolis, MD. after obtaining quotes from the other 3 Acura dealers in the region.

I'm going to the dealership tommorow to do the paperwork and will pick up the car this weekend. My quoted price including destination charges is $33725. I'll post OTD and other info after the purchase.
I know there are other forums regarding warranty and accessories but they are low-traffic so I'll ask my question here.
Did anyone who purchased the TL recently get the extd wrnty? Why?
Are there any options worth having? I'm thinking about the splash guards. Are they practical and useful?
    Thanks!
  • kennyg8kennyg8 Member Posts: 225
Congrats, armanipatrick. Get the propack, which consists of splash guards, 4 season mats and wheel locks, for about $200. It is well worth it.
  • armanipatrickarmanipatrick Member Posts: 37
    Thanks for the tip, kennyg8.
My dealer's accessories list has the price of the propack with splash guards, wheel locks and all-season floor mats (with installation) at $345.
I'll try to knock it down some. If they don't I'll just buy them online. There seem to be plenty of web sites hawking them.
  • vicnationvicnation Member Posts: 33
I got the wheel locks and trunk tray included in my price. I bought the painted splash guards separately and installed them myself. I didn't like the black splash guards. They seem cheap.
  • armanipatrickarmanipatrick Member Posts: 37
    vicnation,
Do you need tools to install the splash guards or do they just snap in?
    Thanks.
  • vicnationvicnation Member Posts: 33
All you will need is a stubby phillips screwdriver. When you buy the splash guards, make sure you ask them to print a set of installation instructions for you. The parts department shouldn't raise a flap about that since they are required to print it if asked.

The rear guards are a little unusual as they come with a bracket but the instructions are quite clear. You will re-use the screws currently in the front wheel wells. The rears come with new fasteners.

    Good luck...

Regarding the extended warranty, I bought it when I bought my new 07 TL type S about a month ago. The reason I bought it is I am planning on keeping my car for a while (6-8 years). I know that Acuras/Hondas are supposed to be one of the most reliable makes on the planet along with Toyota. With all the electrical/electronics gizmos (Nav, backup camera, DVD-Audio Sound system, climate control, power mirrors, seats, doors, windows, moonroof, etc.) I feel better about having some assurance that it will be covered under warranty for as long as I own it and I won't have to pay $500-$1000 if any of the electronics components go out. I figure for the tune of $1500, it is a reasonable cost of insurance. Also, it may provide for a easier way sell my car when I am ready.

How much do you spend every year on car insurance and hoping to never have to use it. Living in So Cal, car insurance premiums can be about $500 every 6 months for full coverage for a new car. When you are in an accident and you use your insurance to repair your car, your premiums sky rocket for the next 3 years.

So, I paid $1500 to have mechanical breakdown coverage for 8 years, 120,000 miles with zero deductible using AcuraCare to have a piece of mind.

For me, it provides me with the a piece of mind.

Also, your question about options worth having, When I bought my TLS, I negotiated the pro-pack (wheel locks, painted mud guards and trunk tray) in the price of the car ($35,100 which included destination).

    Just my 2 cents worth,

    Spyder.

I just received a quote from my credit union for 7yr/100k miles -- $1082 with 0 deductible and if I never tap into the warranty I get the entire amount back. They use Interstate Auto Guard (diamond level policy). I've found credit union services to be extremely trustworthy in the past. I've had good experiences leasing autos and purchasing insurance from them. I still have to read the fine print but at a quick glance I saw they do cover mechanical breakdowns which a lot of other warranties don't. More later...
  • spyderredspyderred Member Posts: 138
I just did a quick google search on Interstate autoguard to see what kind of coverage they provide. Here is what I found.

"With AutoGuard Diamond, if it's NOT listed below, it's covered!"

    "Exclusions:
Carburetor; battery; shock absorbers; manual transmission clutch assembly; friction clutch disc and pressure plate; throw out bearing; manual and hydraulic linkages; distributor cap and rotor; safety restraint systems (including air bags); glass; lenses; sealed beams; light bulbs; brake rotors and drums; exhaust and emission systems*; weather strips; trim; moldings; bright metal; chrome; upholstery and carpet; paint; outside ornamentation; bumpers; body sheet metal and panels; tires; wheels/rims; GPS navigation systems; phone systems and TV/Video/Entertainment systems.

Maintenance services and parts described in your vehicle's owner's manual as supplied by the manufacturer.

Just a word of caution: Be CAREFUL about buying 3rd party contracts.

I was one of the few lucky ones who bought a 3rd party warranty from 1Sourceautowarranty.com several years ago. I got my money's worth from them. I paid $1800 for a contract and they paid about $3000 worth of repairs on my car, until they went belly up. Also, look at Warranty Gold. They were huge and sold thousands of contracts and left customers high and dry.

Again, my point is be VERY careful about 3rd party warranties. They may be cheaper up front, but you may regret it later.

    Well said, Spyder.
  • vicnationvicnation Member Posts: 33
With aftermarket warranties, you must be careful. Make sure your local dealer will accept that warranty and that it will cover electrical problems. I don't worry about any mechanical breakdowns with the car because I consider the brand quite reliable. I am concerned about the electronics because they are prone to failure at some point.
  • armanipatrickarmanipatrick Member Posts: 37
The brochure I got off interstate's website says it covers GPS/Navi etc. But I will have to get my hands on the detailed contract.
The good thing I don't have to buy the warranty tonight.
I got a quote from smartautowarranty.com for 7yr/100k for $1999. Very comprehensive (covers electronics), but expensive.
    curryacura.com quoted $1150 (with $-90 discount).
As always, folks, thanks for the good advise.

Don't forget the option to self-warranty: Take the $1k+ cost of the extended warranty and invest it for the four years of the original warranty. You get to keep your money plus it grows. And you choose how to spend it...

I know I'm lucky, but I've never had any expensive out of warranty repairs (and I even had a Chrysler for 2.5 years out of warranty recently!).

I believe that friends don't let friends buy extended warranties... (for Toyota & Honda products, at least) ;) Unless you can't sleep at night without one... :(

i got a good quote from Springfield Acura. Has anyone had any experience with this dealer? i am about to pull the trigger on the deal. I have not gone to the dealer yet but on the phone the guy gave me a great quote at about 33600 for a new acura TL with navi. This price i am assuming is with destination fee. I didnt really ask but I was pretty agressive and made it clear i would not pay anything more than that except for taxes. Thank you for any advice.

  • armanipatrickarmanipatrick Member Posts: 37
I got around the same quote from springfield acura, nj (incl. destination charges). The guy I was talking to on the phone seemed alright. I haven't dealt with them in person. I decided to go with Ramsey Acura even though it was $125 more because it is more convenient for me.
  • swgordonswgordon Member Posts: 13
What dealership in N VA did you get that quote from? Ive got quotes from all of them and best I have so far is $34121 from Criswell in Annapolis. Although I have not started to negotiate.
  • armanipatrickarmanipatrick Member Posts: 37
    Folks,
The new 2007 Acura TL w/navi (carbon gray/ebony) is in da house. Picked it up yesterday from Ramsey Acura in NJ.
    Price (including invoice): $33725
    Sales Tax: $2360
    Doc fees: $185
    Registration/Title fees: $351 (for 4 years)
    Temp plate/NJ tire fee: $10.50

The only thing I regret is not negotiating the propack (matching splash guards, wheel locks, all season mats) before agreeing to buy. I think I could've had them throw in a couple of things if I had brought it up early in the process, but I wasn't sure what I wanted till the end. Looks like I can get the propack for $225 over the internet.

The buying process was very pleasant. Bill D. the sales guy was friendly and helpful without being pushy. *After* the purchase, he spent about 1 hour going over all the features of the car and the thick manual package instead of trying to push us out the door. The car was presented nicely -- with a full tank of gas and sparkly clean, inside and out.

George the finance guy threw a bunch of options at me but didn't try to force anything. He did emphasize I needed to get Gap insurance since I financed the whole purchase, but I passed on that. I did purchase the extended warranty (7 years/100k) and tire/road hazard.
    ext. warranty - $1194 (comprehensive)
    road hazard - $375
I have 30 days to cancel. We are planning on keeping the car for many years so I decided to go with the warranty. As Spyder helpfully pointed out in an earlier quote I checked the exclusions list and it does not mention GPS/navi or airbags. But I don't see it specifically included, either. The extensive range of electronics in the Acura is why I'm really interested in the warranty. The dealer said that it is covered but I will call Zurich (warranty provider) on Monday to confirm.

In conclusion, I might've gotten a better price elsewhere but I liked the dealer and the location is very convenient to me. Do not just walk into the dealership without getting internet quotes. If you are a credit union member call them. I got a quote for $33707 from my CU but the dealer was out of the way for me.
I will post my driving experience on a different forum in a couple of weeks.

    Cheers.

Congrats, you got a good price, just about invoice. I did not buy the extended warranty because my dealer told me that I could decide on that later. My 06 TL w/ navi has been great, except for a few rattles that the dealer has not been able to fix. I am my surprised because most of their techs look kinda inexperienced.

I think I got a killer deal, first off, it was extremely hard to find any of these cars with the 6 speed manual. I am in the northwest, these things just aren't around. I got the car without the high performance tire, and its silver with taupe ebony interior. I love the CAR its amazing. I paid 36,300 and I leased it, with 1500 down, my payment are 462 a month. There is not better car on the market for that price. If anyone wants help deciding to pull the trigger, you should, and will not have any regrets!!!
  • markspinosamarkspinosa Member Posts: 18
Why didn't you outright just buy the car? Do you driver fewer miles tham most per year? I know I put more money down up front, but I got an '06 TL w/ Navi 5AT brand new with 10k down and pay $467/month to own it.

You're right, the car is unbelievable. However, this way, I have some equity in the vehicle.

I don't keep cars long enough... plus i have a built in buyer at the end if I don't want to keep the car. Plus I am only paying 2.64% interest (also known as a .00110 money factor) and can always buy it at the end. I don't sell cars myself, I always trade them in, and this is the way I have found, not to get raped by the dealerships...

Do yourself a favor. DON'T settle for the manual if you can, you will regret it. I drove the auto tranny and manual tranny several times back to back. The car is totally different with the 6 speed manual tranny. The power in 2nd, 3rd and fourth are amazing. I can't stop grinning. I am so glad I bought the manual tranny. My wife preferred (did not insist) that I buy the auto just like your wife, eventhough my wife can drive the manual tranny. Especially for resale ease. However, I decided on getting the manual since I plan on keeping the car for 5-7 years. I will deal with the resale issue when the time comes. For now, I am loving the driving experience again. Did I say the manual in this car is AWESOME.

I have gotten offers for about 36,600 out the door. Does this sound like a good deal to you?
  • armanipatrickarmanipatrick Member Posts: 37
That's about what I paid 2 weeks ago for tl/nav in NJ (7% sales tax). It sounds like a fair price. In NJ you might be able to get $36200-300 or so OTD.
I think you need to decide how important the 1.9% financing deal is for you. For me that was a great offer so once I was satisfied I had received a fair quote I bought the car before the deal expires end of april. Over 3 years I'll pay only $1000 in interest which is not too shabby.
Once MY 08 rolls out I imagine 07 prices will drop but I don't know how that works.

Anyone in Southern Wisconsin have any recent experiences and/or advice to share? I'm a newbie buyer in the market for a 2007 TL/Navi a/t.

With few in-state dealers, it's hard to get a competitive price. Middleton Acura (aka Zimbrick)'s rep acted rather offended I dared to try haggling. He gave me "we don't do invoice" and "I don't even know what invoice would be"; his best offer was 35300 before TTL. Acura of Brookfield (which appears also affiliated with Zimbrick) didn't have much in stock and pretty much was quoting MSRP. Boyland Acura (in Appleton) was a bit more reasonable, after some discussion, at 36700 OTD (high 34K before TTL).

The prices are better in Chicagoland (a couple quotes just above/below $34K before TTL), but I am unfamiliar with what extra steps might be involved in buying out of state.

Any input would be much appreciated!

As a recent newbie buying my new TL with Navi only two saturdays ago I have some insight. I hagled and hagled with one dealer and finally set an appointment to come in and buy. He quoted $33,800 originally then threw in wheel locks and took off $100. Two days before the big day I got to thinking maybe I should have priced other dealers. So during my lunch breaks I hagled with several other dealers in the Chicagoland area and it paid off! I ended up with several quotes at $33,700 including destination and finally ended up settling with Acura of Palatine as they offered $33,700 with wheel locks, all weather mats (a must in Chicago), trunk tray and splash guards on all 4 wheels. If you take off all the extras I got the car for about $33,300 or so which is below invoice. I also purchased the 8yr/100k mile warranty as I found out the navi system is a few grand to replace and thats a lot of technology that just am not sure about. Plus with my dealer I get free car washes any time I want which is a plus as well. I would highly recommend making a deal with a Chicago dealer as they seem to be much better deal-wise here. Also, go through the internet to quote as I got $500 off the extended warranty for going that route. Watch out if you have a trade in because they screwed me over on that which I knew would happen. Let me know if you need a contact at a Chicago dealer an I'll be glad to hook you up!

I like in chicagoland and leased a Mini at International Mini in Milwaukee a few years ago. There were not any extra steps or fees. I believe border hopping is quite common and the dealers know how to handle it.

I am new to car buying, although it would seem to be a very silly question but i need your advice.... last monday i test drove the 2007 TL and TL-S....i liked the TL-S in white, as they only had one in white i gave a deposit to hold on to that particular car....i told the salesman that i will buy it next week.....
As i am in the middle of refinancing my house and it will be done by Friday, i don't want the dealership to run my credit till Friday.....
Therefore, my question is that how does the process work ?? does the dealership has to run my credit first and then they talk about pricing ??? can i ask for a price quote and hagle the price before they run my credit ??? Please advice...

I'd call the salesperson and/or F&I person at the dealership.. and tell them exactly why you don't want them to run your credit, until Friday.

But, if you are closing on the house within the next week, they have most likely already processed your loan.. and will likely not see any credit checks.

Doesn't mean it can't happen, but I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.
