Picked up the car last night from Acura in Ocean twp. Options included rear spoiler, color matched door guards, and side panel guards, cargo mat, and wheel locks. I switched from my Lexus ES. The TL offers more standard options than the ES for the $$ so I switched. For anyone considering a Lexus, my experience with Ray Catena was very positive over the past six years. The Acura mgmt could take a lesson on greeting customers from Lexus since they totally ignored me the first time I walked into their dealership. I can't put the name of the salesperson in this e-mail but my experience with him was very pleasant. His first initial is "U". Good luck.

I just went and picked up my brand new car & wow! I love it.

Its a white, 07 TL Type S, Automatic. I got a killer deal, $33,300 plus TTL. Options: tinted windows (looks gorgeous), wheel locks, Phantom Theft Deterrent engravings, & mud guards. I love the car & the price was awesome!

If you are in Southern California, make a trip to Acura 101 West in Calabasas. The whole sales transaction was wonderful. No stress, no high pressure, smooth deal. Ask for the Fleet Manager to get the best prices.

This car is so much fun to drive. The voice recognition works really well, too (for the bluetooth phone & for nav & the radio/temperature controls). Nothing negative yet at all, although I have only had the car for a couple hours. I just wanted to share the great experience I had at Acura 101 West :shades:

Hello all - After test-driving a TL-S this past week, I admit it... I'm smitten. Given that the new model year versions are about to come out, I'm hoping that now is a good time to act. Has anyone purchased a Type-S from a Chicago-land dealer lately that would be willing to share some details of how you did in the negotiating and whom you dealt with? I purchased my previous car used from McGrath, but I didn't do my homework that time so I'm trying to redeem myself! If you prefer private, feel free to email me at Yahoo. My address is tkactl07. Thanks!

Wow, they're wheeling and dealing in California.

Good luck with your new TL-S. :)
  • fuzzynipsfuzzynips Member Posts: 37
I emailed all of the local Chicago land dealers to see what kind of price I could get online. The lowest I was able to get was exactly $1,500 below invoice as they were subtracting the manufacturer to dealer cash. Invoice on this car isn't bad but I think there's room for improvement given that the 2008 TL-S is about to hit lots any day now.

I second the WOW!! Did the dealer make any $ on that deal?
  • cpa3cpa3 Member Posts: 89
Porchie....great car and fantastic deal...best deal on this board....white is the color I want....What type of financing did you get?
  • thrckthrck Member Posts: 4
I looked back to past posts from last year (#6000+) on this forum and looks like Acura was running a similiar deal, $1000 manuf to dealer support. Towards the end of July they allowed combining the APR with the incentive. So if the past is any indictator, maybe they will run the same promo. It might pay-off to wait until the end of the month.
  • thrckthrck Member Posts: 4
sorry post numbers 6400 and greater
  • porchieporchie Member Posts: 50
I agree, I feel like I got an incredible prcie :) I added the tinted windows and mud guards to the deal so they could make some money :shades:

I love the car, it's everything I imagined and more. I put over 150 miles on it yesterday driving all over the place. Only slightest negative thing - the turning radius is pretty large (even larger than my Honda Odyssey). But thats it - everything else is so wonderful :)

Financing: still working that out. I had 6.25 from Capital One that I had planned on using, to take advantage of the $1500 instead of the Acura 4.9 (worked it out and I was money ahead with the 6.25% and the $1500 off the price). BUT the finance guy is working on trying to get us a better rate (not using the Acura financing). So I am not sure what exactly we will end up with.

Great car - go get one!

Just settled on a 2007 TL 5AT w/NAVI for $32,300 at mcgrath of Westmont. They did include splash guards, all weather floor mats, trunk tray, and touch up paint. Also bought a 2007 TSX very recently from them - similar deal, invoice less the incentive/marketing support w/extras included. Both experiences were tremendously positive. The entire staff has treated like VIPS. Both times the sales rep could not have been more of an advocate for us. I would definitely recommend him to anyone interested. I would think a TL-S would be discounted accordingly. Hope this helps.
  • tkactl07tkactl07 Member Posts: 6
Thanks for the response, rone3. I assume your $32,300 is OTD price?
  • tkactl07tkactl07 Member Posts: 6
Thanks for the reply, nips. That's pretty close to what I've gotten... My best is 33780 + TTL (no 2.9% financing, no options). Kind of surprised given the close release... we'll see how it goes.

$32,300, not including TTL for TL, 5AT w/NAVI. Of course we will have to pay 6% Indiana resident sales tax, the nominal Illinois dealer document fee, and Indiana registration/title/license plate fees. I cannot say enough about the sales rep at McGrath. All business done over the telephone with no paperwork - just our oral agreement - on both cars - the TL yesterday and the TSX two weeks ago. Whatever he said, you could "take it to the bank". Again, they took it to the invoice and subracted the $1500 Acura marketing support to the dealer and then threw in the extras (roughly $500 MSRP). Undoubtedly, not the best deal ever, but we're satisfied. Everything was straight-up and no hassle. We have shopped for new cars over the past 45 years and never, repeat never, been treated so nicely. That alone was worth something to us. Call/see Dean.
  • kennyg8kennyg8 Member Posts: 225
Rone3, $32.3k is a pretty good price, since you got it at invoice minus full 1.5k incentive, and the dealer gave you the propack for free. Acura may give an addtional $500 incentive in Sep/Oct, when the 08s are on sale. But at that time, the choice of color combo would be limited.
  • bcc335bcc335 Member Posts: 1
Porchie, Thats a great deal. I want to use your buying experience as a template. I'm looking in the Socal area also. What was your price break down? i.e.
    Trade in:
    Selling price:
    destination:
    documentation fee:
    license:
    registration:
    sales tax:
    Final out the door:

Also was the 1500.00 you referred to the 1500.00 dealer incentive from Acura to your dealer?

Wouldn't the 4.9 from Acura be a pretty good deal on financing?

Looking for recent price on a TL-S in the Boston area. '07s 6MT are getting hard to find :(.

I finalized a deal at Clair North Acura (N. Hampton) for $31,848 on 20 July. 2007 [A/T TL.] However; this deal dissolved in a DISTURBING way. With negotiations complete, my deposit was requested and I complied. The vehicle "included" wheel locks. Our worksheet reflected minus $81. When the Purchase Agreement arrived I discovered their minus sign meant "Additional cost." A large "Administrative Fee" was also applied. During negotiations I asked about this specific fee- the salesman lied. I was willing to accept these two setbacks but as I was literally signing the contract the salesman covered his mouth and quietly mentioned: "We can't get you that color. This deal is for the TL on the lot." That TL was in a different color and served as the dealer's demo TL. I never signed the Purchase Agreement and I'm going to call today and have my deposit refunded. Thanks for reading. Seacoast New Hampshire

Here are our numbers, off our contract:

    Cash Price Vehicle: 32,975
Cash Price Accessories: 465 (tint & mud guards)
    Doc fee: 55
    Sales Tax: 2461
    License: 282
    CA Tire Fee: 8.75
    No Trade In
We gave about a 25% down payment

Our cash price included the $1500 dealer incentive, which is not available if you use the 4.9.
We could have not taken that $1500 and instead used their 4.9 financing. The financing we ended up with was 6.1. Doing the math we found that our payment was less doing the 6.1 and taking the $1500 vs. adding $1500 to the 32975 price and using their 4.9.

I was told after the fact that the only reason they were able to make this deal was because they had not sold a car that day. It was a price match from a different dealer. So you may not to be able to get this low of a price, but it is certainly worth a try!

    I Still LOVE this car!

Does Honda charge every dealer $610/ea for advertising fee starting this year (2007)? One Acura dealer in Michigan said they have to charge each buyer $610 inaddition to invoice price, destination & TTL. Is it true?
  • kennyg8kennyg8 Member Posts: 225
Yes, you'll have to pay $610 ad fee, but they'll reimburse you $1,220, which means they'll reduce the price you pay by an additional $610. :-)
  • storrk1storrk1 Member Posts: 19
Tkact--looks like you're about $300 below invoice (not counting the $1500 incentive). Can I ask which dealer quoted this? I too am looking in Chicago for a Type S. Just got back from Mcgrath and Woodfield. Both are saying invoice is the best they can do (I want to utilize the finance offer). Thanks, appreciate it. Anyone else getting quotes below invoice for an '07 type S in Chicago? I got a rough quote of $1200-$1500 over invoice for a 2008 which probably makes more sense than an '07 at invoice.
  • thebradthebrad Member Posts: 36
Acura just posted a lease offer of 369/month with ~3300 down not including TTL. This is more than there lease special of the previous month. Is there typically room for negotiation with a "standard featured lease"?

    Thanks

Thanks and will do Tkact. It will be interesting to see how aggressive (or lack there of) dealers will be on an '08 as well as an '07. The all new model coming out next year has to have some impact.

Does anyone know when the 2008 TLs are coming out? Is that the best time to get a deal on a 2007? I realize inventory starts to make it tough to get the color and options you want. Thanks!
  • cpa3cpa3 Member Posts: 89
The new lease offer is for 2008s. I believe it was 399 a month with $3000 down...
  • willis3willis3 Member Posts: 76
The 2008's are out. I went to pick up my plates today and there was one parked in the lot.

This is the exact color combination I have, CBP with Taupe interior, 6MT. But I don't think you'll be able to get this for invoice.

Tkact, I've decided to go with an '08. Here's what I've got so far on '08s in case you're going the '08 route. Continental in Naperville said they'll go $1k below sticker on an '08. Arlington Acura in Palatine was trying to push an '07 so they claimed close to MSRP was the best they could do on an '08. Same with Woodfield. Haven't heard back from McGrath in morton grove. The only dealer I've been impressed with is McGrath in Westmont on Ogden. Don't know if all the Chicago people know this but there is no connection between the two McGrath dealerships. I've read good things about McGrath (Westmont) on this forum and they're all true. Honest, friendly and definitely trustworthy. I'm going to keep working on them to get a '08 close to invoice. We had been talking about a '07, but again, I've decided the '08 is the way to go. Good luck, I'll keep posting my progress.

That's exactly what I did and got the two other dealers involved using the online service here at Edmunds. Between the price for the car and my trade in I ended up about $2,500 less than the first dealer who had the guts to call me up a few days after my purchase and say "Have you ever thought about leasing the car?" When I told them about the deal I got, they acted astounded. Boy, is that dealer out of touch, both of the other dealers I dealt with were very close in price to each other. I got just below invoice for the car even though I chose the 4.9 financing. And the trade in was just below Galves.

And the best part is I love my new Acura TL Type S in Kinetic Blue and Ebony/Silver interior. The ONLY negatives so far are: rear seat room seems less than my Accord, gas mileage is low to start (dealer told me it will improve over the first couple of months) and no Sirius (I tried XM once before in my Accord and didn't like it at all but I need it for real time traffic in the TL).

The car is mad fast! I put the pedal to the metal the other day from about 10mph and was astounded how fast I got up to 70mph! I love the Bluetooth. The seating is extremely comfortable even though I'm a bit wide across the beam. I was concerned about the dark interior and the heat but it does cool down very fast. Still can't believe the looks I get from other drivers and pedestrians!
  • tkactl07tkactl07 Member Posts: 6
Storrk - Finalized at 35700 + TTL (with financing, mats, flaps & wlocks). A little bit more than the JR offer b/c I wanted a specific dealer (free car washes within 3 miles of my work... I bought my previous car there and I've made them eat the extra with my first car alone, let alone the new sweet ride!) and their trade-in offer was a few hundred better than I was seeing elsewhere. All in all the overall cost for getting the dealer I wanted was like a hundred bucks over the lowest offer I got, so I took it. Best of luck with the 08 negotiations!

Just leased an '07 TL-S. I was very happy with the price and the sales service overall, though this was my first car leasing experience, and I'm wondering if I made some rookie mistakes.

    1. I go into the F&I guy's office. I decline the warranty, Lojack, etc. I'm given a piece of paper to sign that looks like a theft insurance policy arising from the etched windows. I said, "I didn't request this, and I'm not signing this." He got all huffy, and said this was already built in to the agreed-upon price, there's no way not to have it, etc., etc. And sure enough, the base cap cost was what I was expecting, and I didn't see any mysterious additions on the lease form. Monthly price was as agreed. So I signed it. But regardless, I can't help but feel I paid for something I didn't want/need.

    2. I'm kicking myself for not noticing this before I drove off the lot (but then again, I didn't know how to switch away from the trip computer to the odometer, and I'm starting to wonder if it was set like that for a reason...) Anyway, while talking to the F&I guy, he made a big production about how the car has nine miles on it, but, well, let's go ahead and put down 11 since they had to run it to the gas station up the street to fill up the tank. He and I both sign a form that indicates that it is illegal for the lessor to misrepresent the mileage (or something along those lines). We finish up, and I take the car. After a few miles, I figure out how to switch to the odometer, and the car has nearly 100 miles on it. I'm not too upset about it -- it's about $20 of a mileage allowance -- but it's hard to defend. Really, I'm mainly just annoyed because of course there's no way I could possibly prove this at this point -- for all they know, I racked up those miles.

Is this type of stuff normal? Did I get out of there without too much trouble?

Anyone know if Acura offers any sort of rebate/incentive program for recent college grads? A lot of companies offer 500 off, but I haven't found anything on Acura.
  • porchieporchie Member Posts: 50
I don't know how much they offer, but when we were in the showroom last week getting my car, there was a brochure about college graduate specials. It caught our attention, but I didn't read it. So I would check into it, if it applies to you.

Honda includes GAP insurance at no costs. It sound like thats what you were signing for.

100 miles is no big deal. If you felt you were mislead you should have turned around and gone back to the dealer and faked that you were going to return the car and demanded something else if they wouldn't swap one out for you.

But again 100 miles is no big deal.
Enjoy your new car...and forget about that one..

Thanks for the confirming what we thought was a darn good deal on our 2007 TL. We are enjoying tremendously the car, as well as the 2007 TSX we bought from McGrath of Westmont. As I sit here, I'm still reveling in the fantastic buying experience there - on both of our cars. I never dreamed that a dealership could make a couple of common folks feel like royalty. The entire staff is absolutely top notch. I truly believe that McGrath invented the terms "customer service" and "customer satisfaction." The sales rep made us feel as if he's known us all of his life, and we went away knowing that we made a new friend and wishing that he were our next door neighbor! No one will work harder to please you. Talked to him yesterday - the 2008s are on the way. If you want a 2007, they're going fast. Call/see Dean. You'll be glad that you did.

I'd suggest you negotiate payment. Dealerships have some ways of moving taxes into other deals. If they could not leasing in Chicagoland would make absoultely no sense.

Wanted to get this out there for anyone looking for a good deal in the Greater Boston area. I used the Edmund's Dealer Quote feature & got quotes from 4 dealers (2 in N.H. & 2 in Mass.). At first no one wanted to give me quotes via E-Mail, but after some persistence, I finally got some quotes back.

After a little more prodding of the 4 dealerships (all via E-Mail, no phone calls), Acura Of Boston quoted me $30,000 for a brand new 2007 Acura TL (including the mats & wheel locks). Went there today & finalized the deal with no problems (did not use the Acura financing perks, instead the $1500 cash rebate was applied to the deal). They even gave me right around Kelley Blue Book trade-in value for my car, which is pretty good considering the price for the Acura has got to be just about rock bottom even with the rebate.

They still have 3 base 2007 TL's left & maybe a 10-12 2007 TL's with Navi. They want to move these cars as they're already loaded with 2008 TL's on the lot! High volume dealer so they move a lot of cars (I'm told about 200 a month). Only drawback was the per usual $299.75 doc fee, but what can you do. I live in N.H. so no sales tax for me!

As a long time reader (first time poster) I'd like to thank everyone who posts on these forums, as there's a lot of great advice offered & the forums are a great resource! The Edmund's quick quote featured worked great as well for negotiating the best deal between the dealerships.

$30,000 with mats & wheel locks is a super deal, so anyone interested should try Acura Of Boston before July 31 (I think the $1500 rebate expires then). They have lots of TL's left with Navi, so I'm guessing in the $32,000-$32,500 range would be possible for those cars! Good luck (ask for Erik, he's a good guy & has only been there a month, and he's polite & pleasant to deal with, which is a far cry from some of my previous sales people over the years).

I pick up my black beauty on Monday.

Wanted to get this out there for anyone looking for a GREAT DEAL in Chicago area. I live in Omaha NE and tried purchase a 07 TL with out nav at my local dealership for 1500 below invoice based on the discussions that I read on this forum. They said that it wasnt possible. I contacted several dealers around the midwest and finally ended up purchasing from McGrath Acura in Westmont. Spoke with Mr Unger and purchased a 07 TL no nav for 29848.00 total cost out the door. (plus tax title license). I flew to Chicago last night they picked me up at the airport took me to the dealership and a hour later I was driving my new TL.

on a lease or a purchase - are the deals better on 07s or 08s?

would I be able to work a sale price of an 08 at the same as an 07? or are they dealing more on the 07s?

i can lease or purchase - whichever makes mor sense. the lease deals seem to have been better int he past..but can you get the same financing rates on 07s and 08s?

as far as I know, the 07s and 08s are identical correct? is there any reason, aside from price/residuals/etc to get an 08? it won't be a "better" car..it's the same as an 07...

I'm been comparing prices within a 300mile radius. I got two dealers in dallas to goto $31518 OTD w/o TTL.(with 2.9% or $1500) I went with $1500, so my OTD w/o TTL was $30018!!! I ended up buying in Oklahoma city's only Acura dealer for that same price with a pro-pack (wheel locks & trunk mat) b/c they match, after a little convincing that I was willing to drive. I think I did okay, but if you are planning to buy wait a week or two. After the deal the sale guy told me '08 are coming very soon. This may mean more incentive, or dealer willing to under invoice!!!

Thank you for your postings. This weekend I purchased a TL (no navi) from McGrath Acura in Westmont Illinois. It was a nice experience and they matched the lowest posted price. Plus, they had a large inventory to choose from. My local dealer only had two color choices.
