Out of curiosity: In what state are you located (that you paid that price)? Do you attribute that price to doing the purchase the last day of the year?
  • jonfrasierjonfrasier Member Posts: 20
Did you negotiate that price prior to revealing your trade-in? It's a great price if you got fair value, but they could have made their money back on that end.

I'm in the Cincinnati, Ohio area. I think being near the end of the month, and the end of the year helped some, but slow auto sales in general made a difference as well.

merlion0821, did that 32,395 include destination? Any other costs besides taxes, title, registration? Did it also come with side trim molding?
  • merlion0821merlion0821 Member Posts: 143
Yes, that price did include destination, and there were no other costs besides the tax, title & registration. The dealer claimed I was the first one to get a selling price into their "reserve". I asked him if he was referring to their holdback, and he said yes.

It did not come with the side trim molding.

So far, I'm extremely happy with the car.

Good job merlion0821. I offered essentially the same price on Dec. 30th as a "take it or leave it." The response was "but we won't make any profit." The dealer hasn't sold one of its basic models for over 1 month.
Soon they will wake up to the reality of the market. Their position is like someone with a home purchased 2 years ago saying, "I can't sell if below $____ because I would take a loss."

Thanks for the quick reponse! Oh forgot to ask, where did you buy it?
  • gato23gato23 Member Posts: 3
    merlion 0821,
If you are asking where did I make the offer (versus "buy")....
It was in metropolitan Phoenix, AZ

I bought mine at Columbia Acura in Cincinnati, OH.

    Hi all,

My local dealer still has a few 08 TLs without Navi in stock, and I think this might be a good time to pounce. (I'm going with the 08 because 1) it should be a good deal and 2) I really don't like the look of the grill on the 09).

Anyway, here is my plan - tell me if you have any thoughts. The dealer had sent me a quote of 27,500 for an 08 TL w/o navi in October. That price includes everything except TTL and their 'processing fee'. So I figure worst case, I can get 27,500 (+ processing fee). But surely I can get a better price than I got 2 months ago?

I'm going to try for 26,000 and no processing fee. So add in 5% sales tax and I'm at 27,300. I'm also expecting to get Kelley Blue Book for my trade-in.

Is this realistic? Could I do even better? I figure I can be aggressive because it's now 2009, I'm buying the base model without navi, and in this economy cars can't be selling very well.

I'll also be paying cash, so I don't need any promotional financing.

Thanks in advance! I'll post here tomorrow with the outcome....

Hi LubDub - I plan on visiting this dealer next week - to be clear - you paid 40k for this car versus MSRP of ~42k or did you pay ~36k??? Also - when requesting an on-line quote from them - is it typical for the dealer to get you the color you want via a neighboring dealership or do they more often stick to what's in their inventory?

    Hi dckiwi,
What state are you in? I got the same quote from a local dealer in TX: $27,500 for 2008 w/o nav (destination included). Were you able to make a deal with the dealer? Please do keep us posted with your experiences.
  • skgolferskgolfer Member Posts: 17
    Hi

I saw an 08 this past Saturday, no Nav. Not a demo or loaner. I offered $26K, the lowest they would go was $28. I walked away. This is in the Phila area. Good luck with your purchase.

    Hello All,

This web site was very helpful for me when I was on the Lexus forum a few years back. Sounds like the '09 TL AWD w/Tech is the way to go. Anyone with ideas on the best OTD price in the Nothern CA area? Thanks!

any new updates for acura tl 2008 incentive for jan ? or 09 tl's
  • dckiwidckiwi Member Posts: 9
Just bought an 08 TL (black on black) without navi.

The dealer wouldn't budge on his original offer - $27,500 + TTL and their processing fee ($385). The total OTD price was $28781.35.

I would have preferred navi but 08s with navi are hard to find now, especially in the color I wanted (black/black). Even the car I bought tonight had to be trucked up from a dealership in Southern VA.

Congratulations for your new purchase. That is the exact price I was quoted on. Just wondering if you get the 0.9% finance deal. I was told that the finance deal ended on 1/5
  • dckiwidckiwi Member Posts: 9
I paid cash for my vehicle, but they did confirm to me that the finance incentive ended yesterday....

anyone have any luck buying an 08 for less than 27k?
i'm trying to buy one in the bay area and the best offer i have is 28k. shouldn't we be getting a better deal than this?
  • whit5whit5 Member Posts: 65
with the way this economy is and lots of car manufacturers offering 2.9 and 0% finance, acura will have to follow suit. Many people will opt for another car for better financing.
  • unipureunipure Member Posts: 7
You can get better deal in So. Cal. I have done it. You should be a able to get for 27K.
  • 2008stype2008stype Member Posts: 41
Sounds like a good price to me, the longer your wait the less selection there will be. The MSRP is near 34K. The new Consumer Reports is not too keen on the 09 vs the 08.

I paid 33 for my S in April so I say you should be happy.
  • cougar16cougar16 Member Posts: 1
I bought an 08 TL w/o navi for 27.2K + TTL in N. Va. The dealer even threw in some sweeteners (oil changes and wheel locks).
  • GreenCowGreenCow Member Posts: 8
Just curious, what dealers are you seeing 28k from? I think like others said, I think you could probably do a little better, but I'm not sure about substantially under 27 (assuming 27 including destination but not TTL). It's been a little while since I did pricing research on the TL tho

Anyone purchase the 09 TL w/out tech? I have a quoted offer of 32,134 for the base model with the spoiler and side trim molding. Seems like a good price, any opinions?
  • skgolferskgolfer Member Posts: 17
Sounds about right. I was just quoted Invoice less $1000 for 09 with or without Tech.
  • vballplayer30vballplayer30 Member Posts: 27
what area are you in that you got quoted that price?
  • skgolferskgolfer Member Posts: 17
    South Jersey.

Any updates on 08 TL's in the east coast.

Can you say which dealer is quoting $1000 under invoice? Thanks
  • vballplayer30vballplayer30 Member Posts: 27
I received a quote of 32,145 from Paragon Acura for just the base model without tech. However, I want the side molding and rear spoiler and have been pricing that. I'm getting quotes of about 32,400 with those extras

    Hi All

I have an offer from a dealership on a certified base 2008 TL of $25,500. The car also has a spoiler on it and has 7300 miles. The dealership is also going to add the acura 7yr/100,000 mile extended warranty which will effectively provide 6+ years of coverage as the in service date is April 08. What do y'all think. Good deal? Thanks.
  • yehyemyesyehyemyes Member Posts: 36
It's a good deal if you like the color. Which area and dealer is that from?
  • rosspanicsrosspanics Member Posts: 2
Lowest quote I've gotten over the phone in the Denver area for an '08 TL (base) is $28.9K. I was thinking that I'd buy at $27K, but with no more 0.9% financing, I'd like to even get more off sticker.

Anyone in Denver bought a '08 TL for under $27K?
  • lynn37lynn37 Member Posts: 8
Does this one has Nav? Which city and state are you in? The quote I got for 2008 TL w/Nav, 7k mile is $25,999, 7yr/100000 coverage
  • skgolferskgolfer Member Posts: 17
    In NJ, no Nav.
  • skgolferskgolfer Member Posts: 17
    Elite Acura, ask for Jason.
  • yehyemyesyehyemyes Member Posts: 36
Is this were you got the quote for 08 TL?
  • yehyemyesyehyemyes Member Posts: 36
Also please let me know, Do they have a 2008 TL with Nav?
  • skgolferskgolfer Member Posts: 17
No the quote I got from Elite was on a new 09. They did not have any 08's although I understand they may have a couple coming out of the loaner program in about a week and I think at least one has Nav.
  • yehyemyesyehyemyes Member Posts: 36
Thanks for the reply. Which dealer gave you the pre owned price? I am also in for one if you are interested so that we will get a good deal.
  • JimAcuraJimAcura Member Posts: 1
Don't understand this number. With navi is another $2,200, so not a typo. But no dealer will sell one to me at this price.
    I'm confused.

It's great and all that we talk about how much we paid for, and where we got our cars, and brag how low we got it for, but in the current economic climate, I'm afraid we won't be laughing or celebrating for too long. As this recession takes it's toll on the auto industry, think of this: dealers will be closing, more jobs will be lost, those that remain will be stronger and will control the market when the economy bounces back, and believe me, it will. I see things at the 50,000 foot level, these businesses need to be there for the long haul to service our precious cars in the future, they donate more dollars to the community that you or I realize, they need to make a profit to keep doing things like that. I'm not saying that you or I should blindly pay full sticker for anything, but these people that have made investments in these dealerships do deserve to make a living. We will all be better off for it in the future. That's just my two cents worth for any that want to hear/read it.

Car companies have been making good profits off thier customers for years. Companies who adapt to the changing economy and give thier customers what they want will be just fine. I don't feel sorry for any business that fails to ignore this. The free market will shake out bad businesses. Nobody wants dealers to lose money, we just don't want to be screwed. Acura was willing to negotiate to what I wanted to pay for my car. Lexus would not negotiate so I stayed with Acura. I would not feel sorry for Lexus if they went out of business.

Did you add options and go to the final page? That's where they add in the destination fee...

    FYI

I just picked up a new 2008 TL w/ NAV for $29,600 in Southern California. The dealer threw in the wheel locks, floor mats, and mud flaps for free.

    Out the door was $32,414.

There aren't many left at all. There were only 2 left at the dealer I bought it from: one white and one black.

I don't disagree that there has to be some adapting to the current market conditions and I'm sure that a lot of dealerships are doing their best to stay afloat. My point is that we as consumers should consider that beating the dealership's brains in because we think we can take advantage of them in a recession like this is like kicking a dog when it's down. I'm not a big fan of car dealers per se, but as this "shakes out" it just may be the good guys that lose out and wind up closing. We as consumers will be left to deal with whatever/whoever is remaining. Good, Bad, or Indifferent

Didn't dealers take advantage of us when THEY were in the drivers seat? Adding high-priced dealer installed options (pure profit), adding market adjustments for in-demand cars (more pure profit), and giving us unfair trade-ins (even more dealer profit)? Supply and demand works both ways.

If you are extra nice to a dealer now - in three years when things turn around, will they remember this and treat you extra nice?
