For your 5AT/NAVI you paid $34,100. Does that include dest fes?

I told the dealers that I will buy the car on the 20th, so I'm still looking around. What color combo did you get?
  • doctored5doctored5 Member Posts: 11
I went to Pohanka & Radley in the DC area & didn't care for their tactics or prices. I ended up going to Jones Acura in Lancaster, PA & getting $2,600 off MSRP. And it was a no-hassle deal. They got me the exact car I wanted in less than a week.

I got mine from Thomas in Covina. You can get almost the same deal from Downy ($34,150).
  • ocresocres Member Posts: 1
    You mentioned in your email:
2005 Acura TL with Navigation: $34,670 - includes destination fee, wheel locks, trunk tray and mud flaps.

I live in Southern Cal and am interested in ourchasing an '05 TL with Nav, and would appreciate it if you could let me know the dealer you purchased your car from (Dealer Name and location).

    Thanks!

I went to Sierra Acura's site last night and asked for a quote. On the online form, they ask for an offer, I put it $34,100 with dest and they accepted it. I think you can go lower. With Sierra try a lower price. And let us know what you get. Keyes told me they beat any price so give it a try, I still have to wait 10 days to buy my TL.

I contacted acura of cleveland via internet, and the price quoted was $1250 over invoice which comes to $31,132. However once i went to meet the internet manager i was quoted $31,750. The dealer was not even ready to negotiate. So i dont know if i should contact them again, but talk to a different person

In my experience, once you have a negative result while trying to purchase a car, it is time to move on somewhere else.. If you decide to buy there, and things don't go well, you'll be sorry you didn't go somewhere else.

"the price quoted was $1250 over invoice which comes to $31,132. However once i went to meet the internet manager i was quoted $31,750."

$1,250 over invoice IS about $31,750, incl. dest charge! 05 TL (non-Nav) invoice is $30,470 with dest. charge. Sounds like they do have the right math. How did you get $31,132?
  • khastakkhastak Member Posts: 18
Thank you for yr advice, i am going to meet Motorcars Acura this weekend lets see what numbers they come up with.
  • khastakkhastak Member Posts: 18
I did that math before going there (and you are right), however the price they had mentioned via the internet was with dest charges included.

I may be wrong in that assumption
  • qwallsqwalls Member Posts: 406
Several people on acurazine, myself included had a good buying experience there. It sounds like it was a misunderstanding.
  • libralibra Member Posts: 6
I see you already got about the same deal that I did at Sierra Acura. I ordered the car (Anthracite/Ebony) 3 weeks ago. In the meantime, it seems the dealers are getting more aggressive; demand isn't as good as expected; or both. So, prices may drop a little more. I was happy with the price I got--given how hard it was to get a deal on the 2004s.
  • salbaby1972salbaby1972 Member Posts: 165
I got another quote from Santa Monica "$33,995 plus fees." I told them I got an offer for $34,100 (including dest)from Sierra.

    For an 05 TL Auto/Nav.

I wanna get the car now, but my check won't be in my account until Thanksgiving week.
  • tcltcl Member Posts: 42
You have the perfect timing. The price start to softening up, dealers more eager to response. Find out which dealer have you car and go in the day after Thanksgiving. I am sure you get he best deal in town. Did you try to get an quote from Keyes yet? They may be even lower.
  • igibanigiban Member Posts: 530
What are they selling for non-Nav now? Below $31.5K or even close to $31K?
  • chefmazdachefmazda Member Posts: 5
I just got a quote for a 2005 TL- 31,991 plus taxes and tag and 33,991 plus taxes and tag for the TL with Nav. over the internet. Both prices include a 499 dest. fee. I am thinking this is not bad. I plan on trying to buy this weekend.
  • igibanigiban Member Posts: 530
Sounds like they don't charge extra premium for nav models now. Maybe supply finally catch up.
  • bda1947bda1947 Member Posts: 20
A guy at Keyes said he'll beat ANY number I bring him so try them...
  • salbaby1972salbaby1972 Member Posts: 165
First go to Sierra Acura's site and make your offer for $31500 or whatever. They will either accept or reject it and make a counter offer. Then go from there. Santa Monica is the high volum dealer of 2003, Keyes says they beet any price.

Right now all dealers say they give you the best price, you just have to get quotes and don't rush.

Anyhow tell us what you get...

I'm going to Keyes last, well as of now... but who knows...
  • khastakkhastak Member Posts: 18
So is $31750 including dest charges a good buy for a 05 TL non nav or $30900 + 570 (dest charges) = $31,470 seems to be a fair price?

Secondly how much does tax, title, tags etc cost in ohio

As mentioned earlier i am going to Motorcars Acura this weekend, and i dont want any misunderstanding while negotiating this time around
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,318
khastak.. are you coming in from out of state? If so, they probably won't be collecting any sales tax.. You'll pay that when you register your car in your own state..

There should be a fee for a temporary tag, non-resident title and thats about it.. Whatever price you agree on, plus $100-$200 for everything else should just about cover it... and that is being generous..

Those two prices you just gave are less than $300 apart.. its going to be hard for someone else to say what you'll be able to buy it for... A "good price" is just an opinion.. But, the going rate seems to be somewhere between $31K-$32K.

    Good luck,

Some states have a reciprocal agreement and will collect tax for each other. When I bought a car in Michigan a couple years ago, they collected Ohio tax. Otherwise, you'll pay state tax when you register the car, and it won't be included in your payment.

With destination, invoice is $30,552 and MSRP is $33,470. If you can get the car for $31,470, that's a good price, but $31750 including destination is also a decent price. You may need to pay a couple hundred more, and you may get lucky and get it for a couple hundred less depending on the dealer. At a certain point, you have to figure out how much your time is worth. If one of the local dealers had come within
$400-$500 of the price I got in Cleveland, I probably would have bought it locally, but they were $1600 higher, so I made a two hour drive each way.

Edmunds shows TMV in Columbus as right at MSRP, but one of the dealers will do $500 off.
  • khastakkhastak Member Posts: 18
thanks a lot, i am from in state (ohio). Hopefully Motorcars should be able to give a reasonable price (as mentioned by you and kyfdx).

I shall let you all know once i meet the dealer

Anyone found out how low can Keyes go?
  • kgwallackgwallac Member Posts: 2
Taxes in Ohio are 6.75%, title in Franklin County is $130, ask Motorcars if they will give you a better price on 2 and I will drive to Cleveland to pick up one of them??

Got one about 10 days back for 31200 + TTL (no sales tax, dest. included) in Eugene, OR. Great, professional service etc.
  • igibanigiban Member Posts: 530
Very good price. What color combo was it and did you get one on the lot? Does it include any accessory?
  • eddiemaceddiemac Member Posts: 141
I spoke with Lindsay Acura in Columbus Ohio about their 05 TL's and was told that the TL's and MDX's were being made available at that price, plus they would entertain offers for the new RL! For new members I live in Washington DC and purchased an MDX from them last August. The DC dealers were not willing to go as low as Lindsay, so buying from out of town made sense for us. the transaction was smooth, and my wife and I are still satisfied.
  • qwallsqwalls Member Posts: 406
Wow! They have really changed their tune in the last month. That's a great price.

Im torn between black and silver for exterior colors.. any comments from TL owners?
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,318
I have a black car... My wife's last car was black.. When they are clean, nothing looks better.. That said, I will probably never buy another black car.. I hope that answers your question...

My TL is black, and the two cars I had before it were black. Nothing looks better than a clean, black car, but they are a lot of work. If the car will be parked outside a lot, or if you don't enjoy washing/waxing/quick detailing your car, definitely go with silver.
  • libralibra Member Posts: 6
I agree. End of the month--especially end of the year--is the best time to get a good deal. The reason is that dealers want to get rid of inventory that they are financing. As for end of the year, dealers also want to maximize sales for the year so they can get bigger allotments of new cars. Having said that, the bigger discounts are normally for cars that they already have on the lot. So, that might limit your choice of colors etc.

Took delivery of my 5AT/NAVI/Anthracite/Ebony on Wed. So far........it's great!!

    Good luck!

For those of you who got your TL via placing an order, as opposed to getting one on dealer's lot, can you share with the time it took from putting down a deposit (and say dealer order it right away) to the time it's ready for pickup? A local dealer was willing do place an order for a color combo that's rare, but said it'd take up to three months, if they have to order directly from factory, vs. swapping allocated shipment with another dealer. Does that sound right? I don't want them just to take a deposit and sit on it longer than necessary.
  • salbaby1972salbaby1972 Member Posts: 165
3 months is the same time frame a So Cal dealer told me. What color combo are you looking for?
  • igibanigiban Member Posts: 530
Looking into a red TL. Must be a very unpopular color for TL as very few dealers (will) have it at all. I actually think it's a very nice red, better than all other reds in Acura's (except maybe the new RL which I have not seen). But I may be the minority, or red is just out of fashion.

You have to order one too? Which colors are you ordering? How much are they quoting you for? My experience is that most dealers are more willing to deal for the cars they have gotten. Maybe I'll just go pick up a silver or grey, but I do like the wood trim one better and I don't think camel int. looks good with grey ext. Tough one. RL has some really good looking silvers with lighter int. colors. I wish TL got those but.....

Igiban, I have seen a lot of your posts on this forum and have read them with interest and enthusiasm. It seems that you are very informed and articulate from your responses.

That being said I hope you don't take this the wrong way but I am very surprised that you addressed the TL color that you are interested in as just "red" and not Redondo red, and you said that it is Acura's best color with maybe the exception of the RL. When I read that I was surprised, and had to get my RL brochure out to double check the spelling on the RL's red which I knew was Redondo red. For a moment I thought the RL's Redondo red could have been spelled close to "Redondo" and was actually some other red and not the same color as the TL. I should point out that if you compare the color samples of the RL and TL, the two Redondos look nothing alike but they are spelled the same and in real life I would think they should be the same. I just figure Acura spent a little more money on the RL's color chart.

I don't know how long it takes to order one, but when I made my deal on September 29th they did not have a Redondo red with Navi coming in until mid November which was already on their order sheet. Like you I do much prefer the wood trim over the carbon fiber and if I could order it that way I would. But my wife won out on the ebony interior. As a side note I went to my dealer today to look at the colors. There was a Redondo red parked next to a White Diamond. It had recently rained putting a film of dirt on both cars. When I looked at the Redondo red the dirt was quite apparent and you could easily see all the water spots. On the White Diamond you couldn't see a single spot. This gave me reason to second guess my color choice plus on top of that I saw a White Diamond TL last night with dark tinted windows and white mud flaps which looked very sharp. I don't know who is selling white mud flaps for the TL. I guess he could have had them painted but I thought painting a flexible rubber piece was very difficult to do even with special flexing agent added to the paint.

Anyhow, I hope my post gives you something to think about, and I look forward to your feedbacks when you get your TL.
  • igibanigiban Member Posts: 530
    pilotguy1,
What TL color did you (or your wife) finally get/order?

Well I mostly mention colors in generic terms like grey instead of Anthracite, as there's only one red or one grey or any color in TL. If there're more than one kind of red or any color then I'd spell it out. BTW, I meant TL's red is the best red, not the best color, IMO, aside from RL's red, as I've not seen one yet, in Acura's lineup.

As to which colors hide dirts better? My experience tells me they are silver, grey, and gold. Dark colors usually are bad on that department. I tend to view red a bit more 'dirt-proof' than black and blue tho. I am surprised to hear that white can hide dirts well. Most white cars on the road look very dirty after a few day's rains. In fact, I think white and black shows anything not white or black the most, although hard water spots can be more forgiving on all light colors.

Well, I guess mug guards may be in order if I get a red TL! There's a good reason why silver is the most popular color for cars I gather. I just personally like Lexus silver or RL silvers better, as they have more metallic or pearl flavor in it.
  • doctored5doctored5 Member Posts: 11
A survey on another site finds (Redondo) red is the 6th most popular color with 5% of owners picking it. Over 67% of TL owners picked gray, silver, or black.
  • igibanigiban Member Posts: 530
I'd not be surprised that silver and gray along make up more than 50% of TL on the road. It's a bit unusual for a car model to be 'dominated' by only two colors.

What are the last two finishes (7th and 8th)? Blue and green?
  • rsr152rsr152 Member Posts: 9
It is a [black/ black] w/ splash guards. I fixed the deal on Sep. 17 and it was pre-ordered with a delivery date of around Oct. 22. I picked it up on around Oct. 25.
  • pilotguy1pilotguy1 Member Posts: 32
We picked the Redondo red. I have always liked the TL red because it is not very common. It just took me a year to convince my wife that it was the best choice. She always liked the White Diamond, but since we have a 16 mo. old, she does not want any interior color other than the ebony, because it will hide the inevitable dirt. Since the White Diamond did not have the option for ebony interior, she was flexible on almost any color but Redondo red. One day at the end of September she decides her new favorite color is Redondo red, at that point we started shopping for a Redondo red TL(I knew if I gave her enough time her mind would change on the color as it does with everything else, I just had to wait her out). But as I said, now that I saw that TL last night with the dark tinted windows and white mud flaps, it is giving me cause to re-think our color choice. Having a Quartz interior shouldn't show that much dirt I would think?

As to the dirt on the cars, it was not dark road spray dirt, but just the grey dirt the atmosphere holds in it. The rain was apparently just light enough of a sprinkle to bring down the dirt but not strong enough to wash it off the cars. It allows for a very good side by side comparison if that is the type of thing you look for in a color. As a result, with this and the fact that there is nothing better looking than a white car with black tinted windows, I am wavering on the color. I will bring my wife out there tomorrow to break the tie.

By the way, any one out there know where to buy Redondo red or White Diamond mud flaps?
  • igibanigiban Member Posts: 530
You meant it's already ordered by dealer for no one, before you fixed the deal with them on that TL?
  • tribblestribbles Member Posts: 56
As far as "red" goes, I like the Black Garnet Pearl of Lexus. More like a Merlot wine. Must be an unpopular color too. I haven't seen one on the road yet here in the SF Bay Area
  • kgwallackgwallac Member Posts: 2
Thanks for the information, if I can chime in from Ohio - I have been getting a several quotes the best is from Pohanka in Fairfax, Va is $31,200 and the second best is $31,852 from Lindsay Acura here in Columbus, Oh. Both of these include dest. fees and niether one of these include tax. If I am understanding everyone's information correctly it sounds like I should get down to the $30K range. If I can get that I will purchase it today. Does this sound right?
  • pkl123pkl123 Member Posts: 43
$31,200 is a real good price,(IMHO.) There were some prices thrown about last week from the Chicagoland area @ $30,900, but outside of that area, $31,200 is the best I've seen. Try $30,900 w/ the dealer, if not you've got the offer @ $31,200 to fall back on. One question , does Pohanka have the car in your colors in stock ?

    Good Luck !
  • libralibra Member Posts: 6
FWIW, here's the way I think it works. I wanted a popular color combo etc. Because it was such a popular color, dealer had already ordered 4 and had "sold" 2, so I was allocated one of the remaining 2. Delivery was to be in about 3 weeks. If they did not already have the combo I wanted on order, it probably would've taken a couple of months or more for me to get the car. A dealer swap is possible, but they don't seem to want to do that if they don't have to. 6MTs seem to be in short supply as there isn't as much demand. But there are a lot of variables to this.

Bottom-line: if a dealer doesn't have the combo you want on the lot, he may have one coming in. In that case, your wait could be a few weeks (like mine). If he doesn't have what you want on order already--they try to anticipate demand--and he has to place a new order, that could take some time. So, what the dealer tells you about how long it would take depends on combos already ordered but not yet sold, or if he has to place a new order.

    Above is my guess fwiw.
  • igibanigiban Member Posts: 530
I agree $31,200 is a very nice price already. In SF Bay Area, it'd be a fantastic one. I don't know how buyers in midwest shop. It sounds like you guys can cover a large territory of dealers (IL, PA, OH, VA .... WOW). A while back one person was asking why not just pay msrp and save yourselves some hassle. Well while I won't go that far, $300 is close enough for me to simply get to the closest dealer to start enjoy a TL. Midwest is certainly too far from SF for me to even think of any dealing there. LA area is about the only other major supply hub to consider, and my survey does seem to indicate that LA can have a few hundreds off from Bay Area's. But just gas along would cost more than $100, and then all the hassle back and forth, plus my new TL would have 400 miles on its meter already the first night. I'd be happy to pay $300 premium for a much closer dealer.

BTW, thanks libra, I think that's how it works too. A red TL must be so unpopular that dealer told me they couldn't find any one to swap with. Maybe I'd take another look at it, if I can find one, a dirty one perhaps.

tribbles, Black Garnet Pearl from Lexus is great, but I remember it's more black than red. Lexus in general, IMO, has nicer color selections. Too bad they just don't have any sporty looking mid-size sedan to offer.

I will get my car on 18th. Thank you all for your help.
