    Hello,

I got a quote of $30.9 on a nonnav TL. But now I see that similarly equipped Maximas are going for $4-5K less. Can someone refresh me on why I should go with the TL for $5K more?

Also, what is the risk of buying an 05 at this point with the 06's not far behind?

    Thanks

Is this price for TL with NAV in AUTO? I was interested in Manual which seems unavailable in Texas.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,337
    1) Resale

    2) The sunroof in the Maxima goes the wrong way..

    3) What is up with that schnozzola on Nissans?.. yuck.

    4) The powerplant in the TL is a little more refined.. much smoother, IMO.

    5) Longer basic warranty on the TL.. 50K vs. 36K.

I don't see any risk in an '05... The '06s will probably have a price increase, and sell closer to MSRP at least until December, and you have a nice price on the '05.

    Just my $0.02

Yes, this was for auto, not manual. The dealership was Vandergriff in Dallas. This was from one of the internet guys.

Keep in mind that it was the end of the month and earlier in the year (Jan-Feb) when sales were not good...

    Good luck.

One dealer quoted doc fee of $193 and another quoted doc fee of $209; so they're both the same.

I'm driving three hours to pick up my Acura TL (w/out navigation) from Jay Wolfe Acura in Cleveland. They quoted me $30,900 + TTL and 60 months financing at 4.9%. The next best deal I received was $32,000 from a dealership closer to home.

  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
That's an excellent deal. 32,000 is too high. In the San Francisco I got mine for 31,000. The wholesale is is about 30,000, the 900 extra you are paying is the hold back. Like I said, an excellent deal.
  • aaarghaaargh Member Posts: 230
Are you talking about Cleveland, OH??? Is Jay Wolfe Acura also called Acura of Cleveland?

I thought the only two in Cleveland are Motorcars Acura and Acura of Cleveland.
  • wisngamecockwisngamecock Member Posts: 52
I'm not sure the difference is worth 5 grand. I think it was in the 3-4 grand range last December. I was down to that same choice. I agree with most of kyfdx points. I chose TL over Max because of:
    1)DVD sound
    2)satellite radio
    3)6 sp tranny
    4)build quality
    5)sharp interior
    6)better fuel economy
    7)better ride/handling
8)premium nameplate (this is probably least important, but shows up in resale).

I think both are fine cars though.

When I purchased my TL this week, the extended warranty of 7 years / 75,000 miles (above the standard 4 years/100,000 miles with no deductible was made available at $985.

Basically I am picking up three years of additional coverage for close to $1,000. There is always the chance that I could incur some large repair cost to exceed the $1,000...but there is always the chance I won't.

What are the thoughts here? Is it worthwhile to get the contract and is the price worth it?
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,337
4 years is a long time before the warranty kicks in.. Depending on your driving habits, you might not get the full value of the extended warranty..

You can always wait... You can buy the Acuracare warranty from any Acura dealer at any time before your original warranty expires..

Invest the $1000 in a safe vehicle for the next 4 years (or take a chance on a stock/fund!!!). Then either you can use the principle and interest you (not the warrantor) now have to pay for any repairs or, if no repairs, which is hopefully more likely given it's a Honda product, you can do whatever you want with your money!

Was wondering which dealer in the NY/NJ/CT area seems to be offering the most aggressive pricing for an '05 TL automatic with Navigation? Got a NJ quote on the phone for $33,670 plus TT&L, which appears to be base MSRP with NAV for free. If my calculations are correct, dealer cost is around $32,500 for an AT w/NAV? How thin are dealers willing to go on the profit spread?
  • flvol77flvol77 Member Posts: 8
Acura of Orange Park in Jax Fl is awesome...I live three hours if not longer. I got a quote for 30,900 for non nav and 32,600 with nav, the salesman even offered to work out something where they would bring the car to me. I have a dealership with in 20mins of me and I asked them for a quote twice and they finally emailed me back with MSRP? If you live in fl, GA, Bama, or anywhere near Jax I highly recommended you emailing these people with a quote.
  • delmar1delmar1 Member Posts: 744
Thanks lauradada for the suggestion of investing the $1000 and using the investment returns to cover any repairs. In four years time...the $1,000 would become $1,200. Definitely an good sum...however these days could be easily eaten up by some electrical issue...as well as Navi issue.

I decided I am going to pass on the warranty and basically self-insure against repair costs. On my fifth Acura and only one ate up $900 in year six with an alternator and starter.
  • aapaap Member Posts: 1
Montclair Acura in Verona, NJ. 1% over dealer cost. Looked at one on Friday, drove mine home on Wed. No test drive, 1st Japanese car. Great customer service.
  • nomarnomar Member Posts: 4
I heard from someone that Larchmont in Westchester is offering to sell an AT + NAV at 32,500 + TTL, which I believe is actually a few bucks below dealer cost. Why would they sell them below cost, are the TL models not selling well?
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
They didn't lose money, and TLs are selling very well.
  • toddtoddtoddtodd Member Posts: 1
(the below is only my opinion, including all sterotypes, etc).

    Well,

Here is my buying experience so far. I got an internet quote on a nonNav for $30.9K. Pretty good, I think, so I go to the dealership to test drive the car to make sure I like it. I take a NAV out for a spin. The car was pretty nice, but reminded me a bit of my old Accord (probably just in my head), and the power off the line was "ok," but did not rip my head off into the back seat. The mid range power was more noticeable. I know I would not need it that much, but the NAV was pretty neat (I'll come back to this), although probably not worth $2K. I'm actually paying cash for the car, so $2K is actually $2K to me (not $12 extra per month). Well, the car just did not have the "WOW" factor for me. I was a little disappointed. It is a fine car, the right decision overall I know, especially after about 50 hours of research. All I can say is that it was missing the wow factor.

So I left the dealership without purchasing the car and went back to the drawing board. I considered, again, the G35X, the CTS, yadda, yadda. But the G35X gets bad gas mileage and does not look as good as the TL - again, no WOW factor. The CTS gets pretty pricey when comparably equipped as the TL, and no real WOW factor to me (just a "different" factor - which counts).

Ok, so the only car in the $30-35K range with any WOW factor to me is the G35 Coupe. I love the look. I am 34 with one child and wife, so I worry a little bit about the "Giggalo" stereotype. I love the growl of the car and the James Bond/Lexus SC look in the gold and tan combination. I went to look at one today. There are no base models on the lot, so the car is actually a couple grand more than the TL. And I know the RWD will end up being a problem for me (snow, spin outs, fish tails into trees - I get pretty crazy occasionally). In addition, two doors and bad gas mileage is a factor for me. So more money for less practicality - I decide to pass on the car that I know I want and know I would end up regretting in the long run.

So after all that where do I end up? Back at the TL - which is why I ended up there in the first place. It is the overall right answer. I finally figured out that any car with WOW factor is over $50K (M45, E350, GS430).

Now I am consider the same TL (blue/camel), but with NAV. I know I won't need it much, but there is a little "WOW" to the screen and female voice speaking. I imagine I can get most of the cost back on resale value?? At least it makes the car a little less plain. Again, overall I think it is a fine car, and the one I am going to buy. I sent off again for internet quotes for NAV versions.

The only thing making me hesitate now is wondering if the 06's will have AWD or 300HP or blinker mirrors? But then again, I won't come off my wallet for WOW factor, I probably won't for the "newest" model TL either at full price.

So there you have it. If I get a $32.8K or less quote on the Auto NAV TL, Blue/Camel, then I'm doing it! The only thing else nice would be a wood shifter.

I'm turning in my 02 Saab Viggen Convertible on lease soon and the car was awesome. It's a little faster than the TL and the convertible was awesome, but time for me to grow up a little. We never take my Saab anywhere as a family. The TL automatic is so smooth it seems slower than it is (sort of like the BMW), it's deceiving.

So I am a bit disappointed that I am not more excited to plunk down $30-some thousand, but there is just nothing better for the money. Car prices are just plain crazy (now I know I'm getting old!).

According to the ConsumerGuide, dealer invoice for the AT w/NAV is $31,985 + $570 Destination = $32,555, so 32,500 would be below dealer cost. Is that the dealer cost, or are there other numbers that we don't know about?
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
I think the TL has a lot of WOW!!! It has plenty of power but I do agree that the G35 coupe great. I bought my wife a TL, and I will likely get a black G35 for myself. :P
  • kjpkjp Member Posts: 12
I would recommend shopping at Acura of Westchester located in Larchmont. Thanks to this message board, I was able to purchase an 05 TL w/Nav for $32,000. That price included wheel locks and all weather mats. They were a little reluctant to sell at that price initially but I knew that someone on this site was offered the same car (without the extras) for $31,900 back in March (see past posts). Be mindful of the 3% hold back that the dealer receives. That is what allows them the ability to sell below the $32,555 that Consumers is quoting ;) The car is great and is selling very well so get yours while you can.

    Rob,
As another member inquired..where is Jay Wolfe? I know there is Acura of Cleveland, and MotorCars. I went to both, they didn't have what I wanted ( no navigation, silver metallic w/black leather) in stock. Motorcars is the worst- they do not deal AT ALL and the salesman was a JERK. I bought mine at Park Acura in Akron- right off the truck! Sales/service was excellent!! I got mine for $500 above invoice, and 60 months, 2.9% financing.I can't say enough about the service though...I have been car shoppping for many months in and out of VW, Audi, Jag, issan,Honda, you name it..nothing compares to Park Acura!!
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
Good for you Rob!!! You have to have in mind to walk away. I drove about 30 miles to a dealer that was more reasonable than a dealer just 2 miles away. You also have more bargaining power if you tell them you are considering another brand of car, like a BMW.

..... You may not have gotten the "WOW" factor ... but you do get an "E" for effort and for posting an "excellent" story about the real world .........

Most buyers today will read 6/7/8 articles on certain vehicles, and then let them make-up their minds ... the best way to find out if a vehicle really works, is to get out and do some feely touchy stuff .... some feel bigger than the specs (some really are) some might hit the bumps and lumps harder than what the "editors" have printed, some might feel slower on the curves and some might not have the room that someone needs 350 days of the year .. and sometimes, the boss or the guy he plays golf with, or even the neighbor next door "might" change their mind, but unless they're making the payments their opinions are meaningless ...

As much as I like Acura's, maybe it's just not your time, maybe the "you" vehicle hasn't been built yet - or perhaps you haven't driven it yet ..........

    Terry ;)

I am looking at a TL with navi...with many accessories including the a-spec package and some exterior mods...all thorugh Acura. The dealer quote I got was 42K. Their offer on a lease was 36months, 2500 down, and 650 per month. Comments please
  • tod2tod2 Member Posts: 3
    True, True,

The problem is that I need a car now. My lease is up.

I figure if they build that perfect car for me (345HP, luxury, $25K - ya right!), then I can always sell the TL. I may go from like to love by then too on the TL?

For me, Wow doesn't start until $50K plus - I just can't afford that. The TL is more "wow, that's a good deal" for me, and that's all I'm willing to pay for. Not to mention that $30 some K is nothing to sneeze at.

P.S. I have a S40 Volvo rental car this week. Not too bad.- it made me think I should check out the S60??
  • delmar1delmar1 Member Posts: 744
Rob: As a bit of comfort....the 'non-American' TL is assembled in Marysville, Ohio.
  • liferulesliferules Member Posts: 531
42K! You could practically buy an RL for that price. Wow. I've never seen a TL go for that much. Must be some good mods.

If you really love the TL and really need those mods, then go for it. When it comes to mods, its harder to negotiate than taking cars off the lot, IMO. OTOH, for the lease prices you are listing, you have entered a higher category (near the mid-level sport/lux category) and should also consider other cars that can be leased for the same prices.

    Good luck.

I've started my search for a 6-speed TL with Navigation. I was just offered $33,131. This is the first solid offer so far so I'm curious as to what everyone here thinks. Are the Bay Area prices higher than other places in the country?
  • golferheregolferhere Member Posts: 27
Hi there-- If you are willing to drive the 5-6 hours down to North Los Angeles, you can get one with NAV for roughly $32,200 at Glendale Acura. This is plus tax, license, and doc fees (no delivery fee). Up to you, but it almost $1000 less for a day's work........I picked mine (non-nav) out over the phone from San Diego, and drove up and picked it up. In and out in an hour.....
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
I live in San Francisco and it does seem everything costs more here. Gas, houses, rent etc.
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
But hey, we live in SF, not LA :P
  • delmar1delmar1 Member Posts: 744
Regarding post 3662....many of the Acura dealers in all of Los Angeles and Orange County are about the price indicated by golferhere. However...Glendale is pretty easy to deal with as you indicated.

In regards to San Diego pricing...they are totally out of control. About $800+ higher than if you drove 30 minutes north. San Diegans....unite and consider Temecula, Mission Viejo, Tustin, etc.
  • xdcxdc Member Posts: 12
    DelMAr:

Same feeling here. As I indicated about month ago, the dealer in SD started from $2500 above invoice. After 2 hours of bargaining, it was still $1100 above invoice in my case. Temecula is not much better. They started from $1000 above invoice. They offered $850 for the chrome wheel. Way too expensive. Deck lid soiler is $520, it is maybe ok.

I am seriesly considering to go to Glendale.
Nice to see couple of others live in the same area.

    Tahnks for the info!

    XD
  • delmar1delmar1 Member Posts: 744
You spent 2 hours bargaining? $2500 above invoice? Don't tell me you actually went into the dealership and not negotiated via email? If you did go into the dealership...you would definitely have a different set of pricing compared to if you dealt with the internet managers.

The Temecula Acura dealership was the easiest to deal with...and pricing way different than what you indicated (their price is all inclusive of destination and protection package) (make sure price quotes you receive include destination charges and 'all in' ). Materially the same as Glendale with less of a drive from San Diego.

Good luck on your purchase. And yes...consider broadening your consideration beyond San Diego County dealers.
  • xdcxdc Member Posts: 12
    "$2500 above invoice?"
Yup, hard to believe it. The dealer told me that the nav system is so hot, people are willing to pay to get it. Then he offered $1600 above invoice but I have to pay $550 for the protection package. I said "No" to them. We walked out with the OTD offer of $37500 for Nav, spoiler and chromed wheel. Based on what I learned here, for the same set of package, out of door price could be around $36000.

By the way, is the dealer called Norm Reeves Acura Temecula?

    Thanks again for the info.

    XD
  • golferheregolferhere Member Posts: 27
Norm Reeves is the one in Temecula, correct. They could not touch the Glendale pricing.....
  • flvol77flvol77 Member Posts: 8
I have been working a deal for about a week, the local dealer finally gave me what I asked for $34,975 OTD with splashguards and trunk tray. White TL with Nav. Btw I love the nav system. spend the extra cash and get the nav system.
  • delmar1delmar1 Member Posts: 744
Golferhere.... Yes...Norm Reeves is the one in Temecula.

As for whether they could touch and improved upon the Glendale price...they did with all things considered (or maybe it is just the internet salesperson I was working with). The Glendale price is the barebone basic car. Norm Reeves Temecula car and pricing includes the same car, destination, and protection package.

I myself would have purchased the protection package. Got wheel locks (lose a wheel and you will hate life), splash guards (looks great as it makes the car looks lower to the ground and protects against rock throws), and trunk tray (a must for a HomeDepot type run).

In addition....don't just take the first new car pricing offerred by the internet manager. Correspond via email and get that pricing down! AND...share the pricing that is provided by other dealers to see if they can match and improve upon. Be a capitalist.

(side note...Norm Reeves is part of the DCH Autogroup which includes a bunch of dealers in the LA area...including the Tustin, Downey, and believe the Mission Viejo locations)

What topped it off is that the trade-in was heads and tails above what was possible with other dealers (and for me....I am located 30 min north of San Diego along the coast....and it is a 40 min drive to Temecula versus 3 hours through Los Angeles).

Remember everyone....don't just win the battle for a low new car purchase and lose on a trade-in. Win on total net price.

Either way....the point is to negotiate with multiple dealers. And steer clear of the San Diego dealers who are bloated by over $800.
  • golferheregolferhere Member Posts: 27
In response to your first assertation.....I did not pay a destination charge for mine, and basically paid about an extra $100 for the protection package. When I had all my ducks in a line and was ready to pull the trigger, I called several Southern California Acura dealers, including Norm Reeves. They came within $1400 of my price, even with the knowledge that I would be buying a car later that day. Cush in Escondido was $1500, and Tustin Acura was roughly $1000 more expensive. All 3 of those dealers did include the protection package, while Glendale was able to include it for me for the price of the trunk mat (not the $600 inflated price some dealers try to pull) ........Not trying to be combative with you, just clearing up any misunderstanding........ :shades:
  • delmar1delmar1 Member Posts: 744
Golferhere...I took no exception to your posting and value your thoughts.

What price quote you did receive from Norm Reeves is clearly different than mine (not sure who/how you contacted the dealer and what other factors were involved) and that you should accept that the pricing I received is comparable to the pricing you indicated (I understand you indicated a gross price). And that others may receive great deals also.

The key point (which I hope you and everyone else will agree to) is that everyone should obtain multiple bids from various markets.

We should all agree that the pricing received from a dealer may vary based upon various factors. That holds true for what pricing I received from Glendale compared to yours as what pricing you received from Norm Reeves varies from mine...as what others will receive from the same dealerships.

I am not advocating that everyone just view Norm Reeves as a single source vendor (in fact in my original posting suggested several dealerships to contact). I also doubt that we all will receive the same pricing. Rather...deal with multiple dealers from various markets. I hope that others receive better deals and higher fulfillment than my experience.

Good luck to everyone in your purchases.

    :D

I am getting an acura TL with NAV for 33300 with protection package which is worth 300 from an Austin dealer. Is this a good price?

Also any suggestion on the colors??? I am leaning towards anthracite with quartz interior??? But i like the silver with ebony and black with bacl also.

    Opinions are welcome.

Just got a quote for a 2005 Acura TL at Gillman Acura in Houston, TX:

    non-Navigation System - $31,800 + TTL. MSRP was listed at $33,670. :confuse:

Anyone shopped these in Houston recently? Does this sound like a fair deal?
  • kutukutu Member Posts: 4
Thanks to this forum I just bought a 2005 TL auto with NAVI for $32500+TTL from John Eagle Acura in Houston TX (June 24, 2005). I came to the dealership and basically told them that I will not pay more than $32500 for the car, and after the salesperson came in and out of the manager's office for 3 times, he finally let me have it for that price. You could probably get a non-navi for $1500-$2000 less. Don't forget to ask for free floor mat, wheel lock, and window tint. You will also get 6 free oil changes if you buy from them.

I think the best time to buy a new car is at the end of the month, when they are willing to sell cars at minimum profit to get a bonus from Acura. If the salesperson asked you where you get this info, just tell them you get it from the buyer who got a SPEEDING TICKET when test driving the car. LOL

My advise: get the one with the navigation. It's so cool.
  • flvol77flvol77 Member Posts: 8
I think the important thing is the OTD price. I don't know what your taxes are like, but I got an offer for $32,488 for a TL with nav and pp1 package. OTD was $35,676. I bought it from a local dealer for $34,975 OTD and the base price was $32,671. I emailed everyone and said I wasn't going to pay over 35k for the car, and the local dealer ended up giving me the price I wanted. BTW get the NAV system, I am a tech junkie and I love it.
  • danderson1danderson1 Member Posts: 5
Should I purchase the TST? No wax offer for $399? Also, what about the leather protector for $299? I agreed to TL w/ NAV, mud, moon visor, all weather mats, for $2500 off of the sticker. I used the consumer reports pricing list, but we only have one dealer within 30 miles, which makes negotiations difficult. OTD at $35,700, but they need to get it from an out of state dealer. It appears some area's offer more power to negotiate because of the number of dealers.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,337
In the car business, they call that the Mop 'n Glo... $700 for a wax job and leather conditioner... You can find a local detail shop that will do it for $200 or less...

It is just a big profit generator for the dealer.. take a pass..
