    nightcrawler29,

I suggest you get quotes from much more than 2 dealerships. Personally, I'd NOT ask for one from your nearest, local dealer until the end. First, request by email quotes from Houston, Dallas, etc... You should have at least 8 dealerships to email. Then when you get the best price, go to your nearby, preferred dealer and see if they will match or beat it. If so, buy it from your local one, if not, Houston or Dallas isn't too far for a good price, IMO.

QUOTE: "Anyway, what is the proper way to deal with the salespeople as they seem to want to force me to go to the dealership, or they won't email me any quotes or give me any useful info."

Don't let anyone but yourself direct how you buy your car. If you are too busy to come into the dealership, then do the negotiation/discussions by email or phone. I personally like using email at least for initial quotes as it saves time. I would tell them the time frame for when you will buy (if you are ready immediately to buy, they'll be more willing to negotiate), ask for total price including any extra fees excluding TT&L, and specify what color, combo you want. If a dealership won't give you email quotes or provide information you want, I would not deal with them. Just imagine how they'd communicate when you brought your car in for service!

    Good luck!

    Hi there,

I am looking to buy a TL with navi in the maryland area.
Any info on car dealers offering a good price will be great.

Does it make sense to wait till spet. to get a good price?

    Thanks :P

flvol77.... congrats on your new purchase! Where did you get it from, and what state are you in? and if $34,975 was the OTD price, how much was the base price you agreed on? (I'm trying to determine more or less how much goes in between, although I know sales tax rates depend on which state you are in).
    Thanks.

Thanks for your valuable advise Liferules. In reading these postings and checking the invoice price for the 05 TL w/NAV, it seems like a good price would range between $32K and $32,900. Considering taxes in Texas are 8.25%, I am looking at an OTD price range between $34,500 and $35,000. Question would be on how much title and license would be, which varies from dealership to dealership.

How about if I email all these dealerships requesting a quote, and tell them that I won't be paying anything over $35K OTD?? would that be a good way to approach them? Also I'm not sure if the start of the month would be a good time to try this.
  • kutukutu Member Posts: 4
Tax in TEXAS is only 6.25% for cars. At least that's what I paid here in Houston.
  • liferulesliferules Member Posts: 531
TT&L should be static. It should NOT vary between dealerships. Taxes vary between states, and that's why here on Edmund's its nice to discuss prices sans TT&L so the numbers are more comparable. Other dealer fees will vary, such as prep fee, document fee and "advertising fee", fees that many on Edmund's don't really believe in and refuse to pay. By asking for total price excluding only TT&L, you are getting their price with all extra fees already included, presumably.

I am considering to buy a 2005 Acura TL during this long holiday weekend due to the availability of financing. Right now I got an offer for $32,600 from one dealer. I am wondering where you got the deal of $31,900. If possible, can I know the dealership name and the city? Thank you.
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
Deal on the internet, tell a dealer you have an offer of 31900, if they can't match it go to someone else. :P

that would be los gatos acura; unfortunately I think they are closed tomorrow. good luck!

Minspa, that's such a great deal. May I ask which dealer you went through to get it?

    Thanks!
  • nightcrawler29nightcrawler29 Member Posts: 146
2 questions here Wang..... are you looking for a NAV or non-navigation?
According to Kelly Blue Book, invoice price for a TL w/NAV is $32,555. So I would think that if you are getting a quote of $32,600 for a TL with navigation, then that sounds like a good deal to me.

How come people in the bay area are getting these low quotes?!?!? maybe TL's are not selling that well over there because people are just busy keeping up with the cost of living, and high housing costs!

Come on guys......anyone who got a good deal in Maryland area on TL with navi, please come ahead and suggest the good dealers.
    Help will be appreciated.

Go to Acura of Marin, however, go at the end of the month, they will be much more willing to deal. Same with Acura of Concord, but Marin gave me the best deal. :)

I went to Los Gatos Acura and asked for $31,900 for 2005 Acura TL with Nav. However, they did not honor the price. They said if I give the name of the person who got that price, they will check and honor the same price for me as well. If you can, could you help me with this? Thank you very much. I really appreciate it.

hey guys, i recently got a new job out in Tuscon Az, and i'm in the market to buy a new 2005 tl, im just wondering if you guys can pitch in some advice on where i should purchase and if there is any advantages of purchasing in each state, im currently residing in so cal right now and will be leaving sometime early august. Im hoping that you guys can shed some light as to how much yoru car was in AZ or in CA.
I called the dealer in Tucson and he said 33900 for a TL w/ navi. Not sure if it's high or not. I would also like to get quotes for cars with navi and automatic, thanks.

If a dealer does not honor a price, go somewhere else, this is CR's advice. It it really bad when a dealer does not honor a price. Also, pretend that you are interested in another product, like a lexus, you will have a stronger bargaining position.

    Hi KJP,

I spoke with the internet sales person and he's not willing to go below 33K with Nav, much less with wheel locks or weather mats. Is Larry the person you dealth with? If so, what exactly was your deal?

I'm right behind you brew. I've had my TL since Thursday and have put kust over 500km on it thanks to a couple of trips to Hamiliton. I find the more I drive this car the more I like it. It's such a solid vehicle and I find the steering to be remarkably precise. Haven't really tested the engine as I'm babying it during the break-in period.

I agree with you that I have to set the cabin temp a little higher than in my Maxima to feel comfortable, but that's just a number. I also had occasion to use the dual climate control last night coming home from the movies with my wife. I wanted it warm and she needed cool air. It worked well.

So far I have no problems at all with the vehicle. No detectable rattles, rolls, bumps, grinds, shakes or shimmies. I still have the original tires and they do not inspire confidence. I had a little light snow to contend with this afternoon and they were definitely pretty slippery. I plan to get them replaced, probably with Michelin Pilot Sport A/Ss, this week.

The Nav system is spectacular. It found two routes for me on Friday that were improvements over the one's I had mentally planned to use and the time estimates were bang on. The voice commands work very well once you have the syntax memorized. The system has even impressed my 19 year old engneering student son - and I didn't think that was even possible!

I got my TL w/ Nav at Chevy Chase Acura for $500 over invoice which included a 4 year service plan and complimentary car washes. I think you could get a better deal at Rosenthal Acura in Gaithersburg but you can't beat the customer service at Chevy Chase Acura.

Today I got quotes from various dealerships around me in Texas. Most of the quotes are pretty high as I was expecting, but after talking to some of the internet managers on the phone, I noticed they were not so thrilled about taking an offer bellow $33k.... I suspect the reason for this is because its just the first days of the month, and they think they might be able to get more money for their cars in the next couple weeks.... so they don't seem to be very eager to give up their cars at less than $33200, which is around $700 or so over invoice. Lowes quote I got today for this car was $33199, and highest quote was $34000. At this point, I'm not sure if to continue bargaining, or just wait till the hunger kicks in...

We went through Acura of Concord. They agreed to the deal due in part (I think) to the fact that we had a solid competing offer from a dealer in the South Bay (who happened to be Sunnyvale Acura).
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
Acura of Concord would not match Acura of Marin for a non-Nav for around 30,700. In fact, the sales manager was kind of a jerk. However, the guy who we took us on a test drive was great. He spent at least a half an hour after the test drive to explain how everything worked, very professional.

.. ** I suspect the reason for this is because its just the first days of the month, and they think they might be able to get more money for their cars in the next couple weeks....**

Depending on the dealer you could be right ... but keep in mind, most Acura dealers are only sitting on a 30/40 day supply of TL's ... if your looking for a particular color/options you might be missing something in another month ............ ;)

Sorry Nightcrawler it took me so long to reply.

I live in Vero Beach, FL. There was around 10 dealers with in two and a half hours from me, I emailed everyone for a price, then work the list down to the top three, and I hate to say it but I played them against one another for three to four days, I was blown away that the dealer in Ft Pierce (Rick Starr) beat every other deal I had. Jacksonville was at 35,600 otd, and West Palm was around 35,350 otd. I called the ft pierce dealer and told them I wanted to buy from them, and I knew they had the car that I wanted and the sales Mgr said OK. My sales tax is 7%, Base price was 32,600, but they threw out the dealer fees to get down to my price. BTW what a freakin awesome car, I love it, and if you guys ever need any mods like car cover or a bra check ebay, saved a lot of money buying my extra things from ebay.

A couple of days ago, I got a quote from Los Gatos Acura dealer of $30,534 plus tax/lic/doc fees for a Acura TL 2005 without navigaiton. Plus, the 1.9% financing will be on until tomorrow (July 6th) on TL. Good luck.
  • nightcrawler29nightcrawler29 Member Posts: 146
A car salesman I know, told me a couple days ago to beware about new cars with lots of miles, but being sold as new. Supposedly, if the new car has more than 100 miles on it, its supposed to be considered used, and therefore you should be able to negotiate a better price on it. At least that was in CA, but I guess that would be general for all states.... These cars might be taken for demos, and accumulate mileage over time... so for those of you that are geting low quotes on your TL's.... just don't forget to ask how many miles does the car have! The low quote might be attractive, but there might be a reason for it. Well this might or might not be very important, but its a good thing to know, since most of the time, everyone assumes that they are getting a new car.... well its like buying a used car from a dealer and assuming it never had any accidents, just because the dealer is selling it... just take some time to chit chat with the mechanics on the back and they will tell you a few things that happen with the cars, that the dealer won't necessarily disclose. :surprise:
  • golferheregolferhere Member Posts: 27
Good point. My car had 6 miles on it, and 3 were from me test-driving it. Most dealerships seem to have a DEMO TL that they use for all of the test drives. It has navigation and usually several add-on's to help sell the buyers on the car. The other brand new TL's at these dealerships should have no more than 10 miles on them, tops. Dealerships without DEMO cars may have a few more miles on each car, but I would think it would only take a few test drives per car to sell them.....Am I on track and making sense?
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
Wow, that's one hell of deal. :)

I just closed last night on a White/Parchment TL with Navi. I got the car for $32,280 +TTL and 3.9% for 60 months from Oakland and they were very great to work with. I had contacted the Internet Manger directly, had my fiance go in and wrap it up. I also submitted my request to Los Gatos, they were willing to give me for about the same price $32,255, but theres came in a bit late. I initially new I could get a deal like this because Marin Acura had quoted me this price a month or so back, but when I called them back they said that sales manager no longer worked there and basically called me a liar. They seem like a place that will low ball and then jack you. So I emailed dealers in the area with my price and went with Oakland, mainly because the Los Gatos came late and Sunnyvale was about $32,500. Thanks to everyone for posting on this board.
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
Can you email me and tell me who you dealt with at Acura of Marin. I found them very accomadating, and got a great deal from them. Is my available without me posting it here? Because I have recommended Marin, but if they changed personnel, I might not recommend them anymore.
  • nawahnawah Member Posts: 1
I am in the market for a TL and you got a great deal. What was the OTD price on your TL? Name of Oakland dealership ?
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
I think there is only 1 dealership in Oakland, around 27th streed and Harrison. I paid 35,550 OTD for a non-Nav, but had a spoiler, mud gaurds, and some other goodies. And I think the CA tax was over 2,800.

Today I gathered a bunch of emails from each of the 10 dealerships that I had contacted yesterday. I sent out a group email basically stating that I had obtained a quote of $33199 the day before, and wanted to know if they could do better.... this is for a 2005 TL w/Nav. 2 minutes after sending out the email, I got a call from a guy offering $33125 including wheel locks and window tinting. Then later another guy called offering $32998 (he sounded a bit frustrated when he told me this number...but that's part of the circus act I know). Anyway, some dealers never returned a call, and others emailed back stating that their prices were fixed, and wouldn't come down. One guy emailed complaining on how he wasn't going to earn a profit on this deal, because I was supposedly asking for to low of a price!! (below $33k) and told me to take a hike, even though his own nearby competition fought like dogs for a deal. Anyway, best quote I got today was $32998, and I'm still going to try to see if the other dealer will do better than that. But it seems that they are VERY reluctant to go bellow $33k. I'm definitely not finding those really good deals that those guys in the Bay area are getting, and I'm pretty ticked off about it!!... I mean, how did the dealers volunteered to offer prices below invoice price ($32555) that easily??? Are they bloated with inventory in that area? :(
  • liferulesliferules Member Posts: 531
$32,998 is not that bad, but I suggest you sit tight for a few days. I suspect someone will email or call you with a better offer. I know I received some desperate offers up to 1-2 wks after I purchased my TL. Definitely, the deals will get better by the end of the month (too bad this is the 1st wk)...
  • nightcrawler29nightcrawler29 Member Posts: 146
yeah, I agree on that its better to sit tight for a while, and let them feel all proud about their prices, and about their so called integrity towards the Acura brand... One dealer wrote saying these cars where not Fords or Chevys, and that he usually sold them for much more than $34K and blah blah blah.... well so we shall see about that.... I'm sure that by the 3rd or 4th week of the month, their integrity will start to wear off, and then they will start discounting these cars like Chevys and Fords......and well, who knows.... maybe this month sales will be as bad as for Chevy's and Fords, and we'll see who has the last laugh then!! ;)
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
Yes, wait until the end of the month, you will get a much better deal!

Greeting dear TL owners, owner soon-to-bes and the other kind.....
I have a question about a used 05 TL. In my area, there is a 05 TL, Navi, Black on Black, ground effects, spoiler for sale with 7,500 miles. I am not sure what they will ask for it yet, but I am curious to see what you guys think should be a fair price. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!
  • dragon1980dragon1980 Member Posts: 2
A quick update. Looks like the seller is asking $32,000 for the car. Is that a decent number or not? The car is NOT A-Spec, but has the side, front and rear spoilers and decklid spoiler as well. Any feedback on the price?
  • equityequity Member Posts: 5
Can't imagine who would want all that junk on the car.
  • delmar1delmar1 Member Posts: 744
I seen one TL with all that stuff...and it looks like something out of MTV's "Pimp My Ride". Sorry to share my impressions...but it is the truth.
  • liferulesliferules Member Posts: 531
Still too much. Remember people are getting brand new, never trashed out by someone else, TL's w/nav for the mid-32's, so I wouldn't personally think about buying this car for anything over $30K. JMO...

    Good luck, though.
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
yes I agree, sounds high to me, even with Navi.
  • nightcrawler29nightcrawler29 Member Posts: 146
Well my response to that based on my personal experience checking used 04's and 05's is that, when it comes to used '05 TL's you would really need to get a good deal to make it more appealing than getting a new one. A used '05 with 7500 miles might be a little cheaper, but the question is how much cheaper compared to getting a brand new one with no miles and having the pleasure of being the first owner. I think that if dollar savings are more than $1k for the same type of car, then it might be worth it, but just take a look at what's the Kelly Blue Book value of an '04, and you might more or less get an idea. Now if you get a really good deal for that used '05 then I suggest you take it for a detailed inspection, and check for accidents. If the owner is desperate to sell, he/she would normally agree on taking a loss, but it also depends on the kind of financing deal the owner got. I've checked used '05's on Ebaymotors and the price difference doesn't seem to be as large as to benefit from geting a new one...in most cases.
  • nightcrawler29nightcrawler29 Member Posts: 146
Well today I didn't put much effort into trying to get a lower quote than $32998, which is the lowest quote I've got on a Nav so far. So only thing I did was send an email to the dealership next door (or near the area) and told them I had obtained a quote of $32998, and if they could do better. A few hours later I get a call from this dealer, stating with a sort of jerky pompous attitude, that he has never ever sold a 2005 TL w/Nav for less than $33400, and that he felt "insulted" for hearing such an offer. I listened to his wining and then reminded him that I researched the invoice price to be $32555. Salesman stated that Kelly Blue Book was incorrect, and that they still hadn't updated the invoice price on the system.... then among all the babble he was throwing at me, mentioned something about advertising costs, transportation fees, etc...so his best price because he wants me to be happy customer, was $33250, which included free car washes for as long as I owned the car......not sure if soap was included though.
  • tubbstubbs Member Posts: 7
I'm looking at a TL w/ Navi (Anthracite/Quartz) including the protection package and wing spoiler installed. They'll also do free pickup/loaner for all service appointments.

    Priced at $33825.

Also, I've seen several folks mention special rates in the 1.9% - 3.9% range. I can't confirm this at any dealer. Any truth to those rates?
  • golferheregolferhere Member Posts: 27
Depending on your area, that is a mediocre deal. Just recently, someone posted saying that they got one with NAV for $31,900. Every dealership gives loaners while yours is in the shop, as far as I know. Also, I got mine without NAV, but with a spoiler and the protection package, for $30,500 in Los Angeles. Your posted deal is an OK one, but at least $1000 more than you can easily get somewhere else......Are there many dealerships in your area? Your should play them all against each other. I think the special financing people have been talking about just ended on Monday or Tuesday.........Good luck!
  • tubbstubbs Member Posts: 7
Thanks for the reply. There are only 3 dealers in my area. This was the lowest. One was almost $1000 higher than that even. Seems like the Cali area has much better deals than were I am.

    Hey golferhere,

I am moving to the LA area and am looking at buying a TL. Can you tell me what dealership you used? Also, what is the vehicle sales tax in CA? I'm currently in TX and am trying to work out a deal where I can buy in TX and have it delivered to CA (Acura TLs roll off the line in compliance with CA emissions standards). Not sure if the numbers will work out though.

    Thanks!
