Hi there-- Go to Acura of GLENDALE. I just know that my out the door price for a $30,500 selling price was right at $33,1xx. They are very friendly and easy to deal with. Contact the Internet and Fleet manager and see what she can do for you. I was in and out in an hour. Good Luck, and keep me updated.....TREVOR
  • nightcrawler29nightcrawler29 Member Posts: 146
An OTD price of $33,1xx sounds adequate if you are in CA. Considering:
    Base price = $30,500.00
    + CA sales tax @ 7.75% = $2363.75
    + Approx License & Title = $250.00
    => Approx OTD price = $33,113.75

I'm not sure, but I think you can deduct the sales tax from your taxes next year. Or at least that's what I've heard.
  • delmar1delmar1 Member Posts: 744
Regarding if sales tax can be deducted....

The sales tax deduction will be available to filers who choose to itemize their expenses on Schedule A.

You can claim the total sales taxes you actually paid based on the amounts shown on your receipts. Just be sure to hang onto those register tapes in case the Internal Revenue Service has a question about how you arrived at your deduction amount.

THE CATCH...This tax break isn't additive; it will require you to make an election. You must decide whether you want to deduct the sales taxes you paid or your state income tax amounts.

An obvious choice for residents of the seven states that do not collect state income taxes. California....does collect state income taxes....benefits and break-even depends on what state sales taxes are paid.

It's conceivable that people who buy a car in a location with a high sales tax and moderate state income tax would do better by foregoing their normal income tax deduction.

Ultimately...you will have to run the numbers when preparing your tax returns.

(nightcrawler....no I did not learn this through my cassette player and listening to books on tape...inside joke)

I paid about 2800 in sales tax, I am wondering if Marin County has a sales tax that I thought was state tax?

hey what's up? I just bought a 05 TL anthracite auto/navi with underground body kit and a rear deck lid for 34,100 and out the door price was 36,500. I think i got a pretty good deal. The sales person just started working there a week before and i was his first sale. He said he took a hit on this sale to pull more customers in from referrals. I think i got a good deal because the price was floating around 37,300 with all the other dealers. I am in NJ by the way...so what do you think about my bargaining?
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
It all depends on how much you paid in sales tax, and other possible goodies like mud flaps, spoiler, etc.
  • nightcrawler29nightcrawler29 Member Posts: 146
I think you could do better.... $33825 is pretty much the first number most dealers throw at you when requesting an initial quote..... and you know you should never take the first number they throw at you.
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
Sooo true. Deal on the internet, play them against each other, wait until the end of the month, and you will get the best deal. :)
  • golferheregolferhere Member Posts: 27
The NEW salesperson is already a PRO at BSing with the customer. There is no way he lost any money. TO be honest, I think it looks that he made at least $1500 off of you, and gave you a deal that he would give anyone just walking in......Next time play the dealers against each other........IGNORE ME-- ENJOY YOUR NEW CAR!

has anyone bought a TL w/ or without nav. Got a price of 32370. w/o nav and then 1290. for lid spoiler and road guard pkg. they're talking with tax, license yada yada
OTD 36000. Does it sound about a grand too high ?
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
I paid 35,500 OTD non-Navi, including a bunch of goodies like wing spoiler, $500, body side molding $200, mud gaurds, and CA sales tax is $2,800. Additionally, I could have paid 35,200 but through in $300 because he held the car for me for 2 days.

With Navi it soulds like a good deal, Not without.
  • unresistabletlunresistabletl Member Posts: 2
I just bought my TL 2 days ago from montclair. I got a fully loaded anthracite with navi...trunk lid spoiler...under body kit for 36,500 out the door. Wayne was the only dealer that went down to that price but i had a feeling they were gonna charge me for destination fees and registration fees. I bargained over the phone and made the deposit and went to the dealer. I would definetly go to montclair if i were you.
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
That sounds about right, have fun. A lot depends on state sales tax, and the goodies on the car like a spoiler. Financing is also a consideration, so we are all going to pay slightly different prices unless you buy MSRP and don't do any research :P

    hey,

sorry i haven't responded, but since you are waiting on a 06 hopefully this info is still relevant and helpful. The two dealers that i have been talking to are gettel acura in sarasota and acura of orange park in jacksonville. both dealerships are awesome. i got the quotes off of the internet and the phone as well. the best price i got OTD was around 34,600? i actually didnt end up buying but will be doing so in a couple of months. i too want to see if the 06's have any changes. have u heard anything from any dealers in your area?
  • ggesqggesq Member Posts: 701
i got my best two quotes from acura of orange park in jacksonville and gettel acura in sarasota. hope this info helps.

Ok, so here are my 2 cents regarding destination charges from dealers. I have been reading a few posts stating that they paid X amount plus all these bunch of fees including the so called "destination charges". Does this charge make any sense at all to you??... I just moved from CA to TX and had my car transported on a truck and it cost me $575.00 bucks... and I didn't had a contract or any kind of "volume" transportation deal with the carrier.... So what I'm saying here, is that dealers most likely don't have a "destination" charge of $5xx bucks or so... this is nothing but BS, since they probably have pre-arranged contracts with carriers that transports their cars in bulk for them for a discount. Now these fees and other non-sense fees like document preparation fees, should be avoided.
  • liferulesliferules Member Posts: 531
I've never heard of a dealership haggling on the destination fees. I'm sure they make a little off of it, but it is pretty much cemented in price and non-negotiable. what a lot of people do, is negotiate for total price sans tax, title, and license. That way, the dealer can throw in whatever fees he/she wishes, but they will be compared with all other dealerships, including those that may not have outrageous paperwork and prep fees.

I find it useful for this forum for people to discuss prices without taxes and state licenses as the fees vary from state to state. It makes comparing prices easier...

Was wondering if anyone has recently received an interent quote from Acura of Orange Park (Jacksonville) on a TL w/o Navi???
Just the price of the car would do...I sure would appreciate it!!!
    Thanks to all!!

$35,300 out the door for a TL with Navigation but no options. That includes 7% sales tax. Dealer says that is at invoice. He said I would then get the options (mud guards, wheel locks, trunk tray, body side moldings, and door edge trim at his "cost"). I emailed for the cost of those items but haven't heard yet. Thanks.
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
That's pretty good I think. The options could add up however.

Is there a way to view Acura's inventory somehow? I am looking for a very specific car that is very far and few between. I have a bunch of dealers in California quoting me prices for it, but one dealership said there are only 2 cars in California and 1 in Washington. Is there a way to figure out which dealers have this particular car besides goes to each individual website and searching their inventory. Plus, some you can't tell if it's manual or automatic and what color interior it is. Plus, what does the exterior colors mean? Gx, Gb, etc?
  • nightcrawler29nightcrawler29 Member Posts: 146
Today i got a call from one dealership which said they would beat their nearby competition, which had given me a quote of $32998 the week before. I told them that it better be good, because I had another car in mind besides the TL, and was in the research and quote gathering process. After some emailing back and forth throughout the day and a few phone calls we ended up at $32700, although they were not very eager to let it go at this price. I told the salesman that considering the invoice price of $32555, and that some people had reported buying this car at invoice or less, the $32700 seemed adequate. Sales person tried to bring it up to the $32900's, but told him I would take it for $32700 and no more. Salesman called back an hour later saying $32700 was ok, so I asked for OTD price cost, which is $2043.75 in taxes, plus approx $180 for title & license. We agreed on amount and placed a $500 deposit, and requested salesman to email transaction details which he did 2 hours later. Once he emailed me the info he said he "forgot to include an inventory tax". I estimate the inventory tax to be $78.67... which brought total OTD costs to $35002.42. This is for a new 2005 Acura TL w/Nav, tinted windows, and wheel locks. I know that based on previous posts, I could have reduced the price a bit more if I had waited a little more to the end of the month.... but well, the car was exactly what I wanted with Silver/Ebony interior.
Question now is: Has anyone ever heard about an inventory tax after TTL?? seems to me that's one of those useless out of the blue fees they throw at you... kind of like shaking you upside down for extra dough after you reached an agreement! :confuse:
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
I wouldn't worry about it, it sounds like you got a great deal. I love my Silver/Ebony :P
  • nightcrawler29nightcrawler29 Member Posts: 146
Yeah, on second thought, I think $35002.42 was ok. I remember talking to other dealers who mentioned that title and license combined were around $250....so well, I'm as happy as a clown! I got this from Vandergriff Acura, in Arlington, TX. Will go pick it up tomorrow. I had to choose between Silver or Anthracite... but yesterday saw an Anthracite, and it looked really dirty, so I'm taking Silver/Ebony
    :)
  • nightcrawler29nightcrawler29 Member Posts: 146
Yeah, its better to negotiate base price prior to TTL. Destination fees should be included on the base price, although it might be a bit exagerated.
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
At first I really disliked the Anthracite, but I have since changed my mind. In certain lighting it almost looks like a liquid chrome, does that make sense? But I really prefer the Silver/Ebony combo, just fantistic, and the aluminum and black leather looks great. Even when it's dirty, it doesn't show as much as the darker colors. :P
  • liferulesliferules Member Posts: 531
    nightcrawler29,

Great deal! Congrats. I told you Vandergriff was good! Enjoy the car, I know I do...
  • delmar1delmar1 Member Posts: 744
Many dealers have websites which list their 'inventory'. However...I found the inventory listing to to incomplete and inaccurate....therefore not to be relied upon.

My view is that if you have a decent dealer you are working with...that person should be able to locate and get the car of choice to you.
  • andreizmandreizm Member Posts: 3
Are there any existing or upcoming Acura financing specials that you are aware of? Looking to buy an '05 TL and trying to explore all possible avenues of financing.

Also, a quick sales tax question. I have a choice of either selling my current car to a private party and applying the proceeds as the downpayment for Acura, or trading it in to the dealer. How does this affect the sales tax on TL? Is it calculated on the difference between the sales price and the trade-in? I am in California, by the way.

    Thanks,

    -Andrei

..**this is nothing but BS, since they probably have pre-arranged contracts with carriers that transports their cars in bulk for them for a discount.**

Destination is charged by the manufacturer, not the dealer and it's on the invoice ... any negotiations are done by the factory and have nothing to with the dealers, if there is any profit then the factory will see it (if any) .. it's also based on an average, that means the vehicles that go to Charleston SC and Boston have to be averaged out with the ones that go San Diego and Seattle ...

Once I've negotiated the price for the Automatic w/Navi at $33,200, how much should I be paying for the options? I'd like to get the full ground effects kit, rear deck spoiler and a few other small items. What discount off the price listed online should I negotiate for? The dealer I spoke with said it's a separate department and he doesn't care if I purchase the options from him.

any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
I paid about 200 for body side molding, about 100 for wheel locks and 50 for a trunk tray and I think about 90 for mud guards, and 500 for a wing spoiler.

We are looking for a 6sp TL in TX and are finding inventory to be very low. Does anyone know when 2006 models will really start to show up? We hear different things from different dealers. We're thinking of just waiting for 2006 to get the car in the color we want, rather than take what is out there (which at this point is not much).

Of course, you have to factor in a possible price increase. Any opinions on what that is likely to be?
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
I do believe they are coming out in September. The 06 will cost more no doubt, and dealers will be less likely to deal. However, I believe color is important because you have look at it everyday.

    Hello,

Sorry if I'm repeating info thats already been posted but I heard from a buddy of mine that some dealers in the LA area are selling '05 TL w/ Nav OTD price of 34k and even 33k... I was just wondering if anyone has gotten similar deals, if so which dealerships?

    Thanks!
  • fblackfblack Member Posts: 26
I was just quoted a price of 32,355-->34,694 with tax and tags for an 05 TL in blue with navigation system. Seems that this is an excellent price. Thoughts?
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
    That's an excellent price!
  • jekejeke Member Posts: 2
I have contacted almost every dealership in Florida and nobody will go near that price for a Navi. I wish I could do that well.
  • risa00risa00 Member Posts: 17
I've been trying to find a certain car and was told there is only one in California. I told the salesperson we were waiting until the end of the month before purchasing (mainly because we can get better deals then). The salesperson told me to give him a price that we would buy it at now. I told him $32,500 including the protection package and he wrote back trying to get us to buy it today at that. Is that a good price for it since he quickly jumped on it? And why would he quickly jump on it.. has to be a catch. We were wanting to sell our other car first, but if we can't sell it, we can trade it in somewhere. Thoughts?
  • mldj98mldj98 Member Posts: 378
that is not a bad price....but what you should always remember is that a deal that you can get today you can get tomorrow...for the most part...
The problem will come up about your selection...a 6sp manual, green TL with Navi is kind of rare...don't see to many on the street....and plus you have a trade....which you may or may not sell yourself...but the price is not bad...just be aware of the add on costs...which they will slap on you with once you get there....
What I would do is this....finalize all numbers before you even set foot on that lot...
get the cost of the car, sales tax, dealer fees, dmv fees, etc...and if they are unwilling to do that....you should raise the red flag warning...I just bought a car from an Acura dealer and everything was done through the internet and phone...the deal we agreed on was exactly what I paid once I arrive at the dealership...down to the exact penny...no surprises....
    Good Luck!
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
You should be able to get a price close to that. I got a deal for a non-Navi for 30,700, so tack on 2,000 for Navi so you can probably get a deal for about 33k. I have found some TL dealers willing to deal.
  • drheaddrhead Member Posts: 7
Houston pricing is a little higher than other areas! Is anyone finding the same thing? :confuse:

Well, I bought mine around a month ago for 34,975 OTD TL with Navi in FLA.......I bought mine at Rick Starr in Ft Pierce Fl....The Jacksonville and West PB dealer were at 35,350 and 35,650 so I think u can get a deal in FL. I also got splash guards, Truck Tray and Wheel locks. The Jacksonville internet salesman was cool and he tried to work with me but I told him even if he could match my ft pierce deal I would have to travel over 2 hours to get the car and ft pierce was only 15mins away. I bought my TL with Navigation in Houston for $30,928!! :P
  • nightcrawler29nightcrawler29 Member Posts: 146
    A TL w/Nav for $30928??... sounds good if its a 2004 maybe, but definitely not a 2005.
  • nightcrawler29nightcrawler29 Member Posts: 146
Wow!! $32355 for TL w/nav... that's a really good deal! go for it!!
  • nightcrawler29nightcrawler29 Member Posts: 146
Yesterday I bought a brand new silver/ebony 2005 TL w/Nav. After emailing and talking to several deales within the Austin, San Antonio, Houston, and Dallas areas, I got a final deal of $32700 from Vandergriff Acura, in Arlington, TX (near Dallas). The internet manager was very helpful, and even went to pick me up at the airport in Dallas. The other dealers I talked to wouldn't go down from $33k, and Vandergriff came down to a good price. The deal included the following:
    Base Price : $32,700
    TX Sales tax @ 6.25%: $2043.75
    Vehicle Inventory Tax: $83.12
    Documentary fee: $50.00
    Registration fee: $60.80
    Title fee: $33.00
County Road & Bridge fee: $10.00
    Inspection fee: $21.75
= Total out the door price : $35002.42

Car included tinted windows, floor mats, wheel locks, and navigation. According to dealer, the colors with bigest demand are Anthracite, Silver, and Black. So if you are looking Green, Blue, Red, or Gold, you might get a better deal. I spent about an hour an a half at the dealership, and salesman explained every single feature to me, so received great treatment. Both saleman and manager were REALLY concerned about getting good CSI scores (customer service....). Anyway, so I took the car which had only 2 miles, and drove it all the way to Austin (about 200 miles) which was about a 4 hour drive.....Navigation is awesome!!! and the car drives really nice. I will definitely recommend this dealership as I was treated well, and there was no switching of numbers in any way. Conducted all negotiations through phone and email, and made sure to receive an email with all the transaction details including OTD price before I went there. It seems that they had a bigger inventory at this dealership, so they were more willing to negotiate. :shades:
  • alltom1alltom1 Member Posts: 4
So, I have a question about OTD - Shouldn't it include the Destination Charge?

I have an offer on a TL w/NAV here in Atlanta for $32,865 plus $570 Destination - When I apply 7% sales tax, I get something on the order of $35,775 - Obviously quite a difference from earlier posts re the OTD. .

Also, my dealer had a $398 charge for 'other fees' in the initial payment section of the lease calculations. . Said it was Documentation fees - Sound right?

Long time lurker/First time poster - I've learned a lot on this site!

    Thanks in advance.
  • ltazeltaze Member Posts: 17
$398 in documentation fees? That is way too much to pay for paperwork. I can see paying $50-60. The buyer that posted above you, nightcrawler I think it was, only paid $50 in documentation fees. Consumer Reports (can I mention them here?) has an article that also says that even though Documentation Fees may be unavoidable, you should never pay more than $50 and you should questiona anything over $100. So nope, $398 sounds like they are making the money they discount on one end, on the documents and others side of the transaction.
  • alltom1alltom1 Member Posts: 4
    Thanks,

Ok, that's what I suspected - Any thoughts on OTD?
