Hmmm. Cash may be less attractive as then the dealer won't have the opportunity to sell you the financing...

I think walking into a dealership with checkbook in hand is always a slight advantage in buying a car. I think that it shows the dealership you are a serious buyer and the deal could get done right then and there. Although this is a luxury line and I am sure allot of high end clients come in there paying cash so it is not an unusual occurance. Right now just about any Acura model you can get it for invoice or slightly below...except the MDX which has a $1500 factory to dealer incentive...so you should be able to get one for $1500 under invoice...
But as you know the pickin's is getting thin...they quite making the 05's already and started on the 06's so now is the time to buy...make sure to get quotes from as many dealers as you are willing to travel. For me it was a 300 mile radius...it saved me $1300 bucks by doing that...dealerships will vary with price and availibility of the colors you are looking for, navi-non-navi, etc...once you have a handful of internet quotes then you can really get down to business...best price should win, but not always...take the dealership for example...is it a good one..or one with a bad rep? Go back through some of the threads here, plenty of people buying in the Texas region...see what they were paying for their cars...a little research can save you big $$$$...good luck!!

I have to disagree with you on this one....
Cash in hand is better than a promise later....short, sweet, done deal...
Cash is King! Especially when they are trying to blow out the 05's...
    IMO of course...
  • delmar1delmar1 Member Posts: 744
Regarding if there is a bias between cash and finance buyers. I have paid cash for all my cars and this is how I deal with it.

My deals are discussed in isolated components. I discuss the pricing of my trade-in as well as my new car purchase separately...as well as financing. When they ask how will I pay for the car...I indicate that I am considering various avenues and that I wish to discuss pricing alone. Financing can be discussed separately.

Work the deal out..then at that point indicate you are a cash buyer.

Sorry if you had a bad experience NIKKI. I like to speak well of them, because I feel I was very well taken care of. And pricewise, The three San Diego dealers couldn't come within $1500, and the next best LA dealer was $600 more (Tustin).....
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
Always deal things separatley, trade ins, your new car etc.
  • lalacaliflalacalif Member Posts: 5
I wouldn't consider I had a bad experience. What I was pointing out is that the price you indicated is comparable to many Acura dealers in the general LA area. You just happen to quote one of many. The reason is probably because of more Acura dealers in the area compared to many other regions. So consider other LA dealers.

When I say LA dealers, I do not consider San Diego LA. I am referring to others like Downey, Keyes, Pasadena, South Bay Torrance, Santa Monica, Weir Canyon, etc.

I live in LA, sounds like you live in San Diego. I didn't know that San Diego dealers would charge $1500 more.

I am sure you got a good deal, but the price you received is similar to others in the region. And maybe it was at the time you purchased your car it was different (when did you purchase your car? Recently?) As you can see, many in the LA area, and you just indicated one.

    Hello ace_pilot:

Sorry for the delayed response but I've been out enjoying my TL !!! I don't believe we are supposed to mention names on this site so I will simply say that the Internet Salesman that I dealt with is still there and I believe he is the only one that they have ;) After reading some other posts, it seems as if dealers are more reluctant to offer super deals. I would say that my deal fell in that category ($32,000 b/4 t&t). I don't know if that is due to high demand low availability or what. I would think that they would be anxious to get rid of the 05's in order to make room for the 06's. At this point, if you can wait until the 06's arrive, it may be in your best interests. Perhaps then, the flexibility on pricing will return for the 05's. However, the flip side to that is availability of the exact car you want.

Best wishes............. and don't give up on our Internet friend ;)

hi, i got an internet quote for like 32700 and i need to lower it to 32000. Is it best to reply to an email saying i want this TL for 32000 or should i just go to a dealer? I'll be buying this either this week or next week.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    thanks
    Joe
  • mldj98mldj98 Member Posts: 378
send them an email back and tell them all you have to spend is 32000...and you will be buying next week....don't think they will go for it...but the worst they can say is no right?
Most people think you can't make a counter offer on an internet price...and that is not true...in fact since it is getting close to the end of July you may get what you want...assuming they have the color you want right?

Plus I am assuming we are talking about the TL with navi right?
Without navi you should be able to get one for $30,500 or cheaper...
    Good Luck!!
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
Wait until the end of the month, they are much more willing to deal. After I bought a TL, 2 dealers called me at the end of the next month.
  • yankeesfanyankeesfan Member Posts: 2
Just got a quote for $31734 for an 05TL w/o NAV in MA. Do you think I can do
better. Don't they need to get rid of these 05's? Would waiting till the end
    of the month help? :confuse:
  • delmar1delmar1 Member Posts: 744
The $31.7k is way too high for a non-nav. I say $30.5k and below is the target.

Will it help to wait until the end of month? Yes....but during the wait...start a dialogue with other Acura dealers.
  • laurasdadalaurasdada Member Posts: 5,208
My guess is you're paying the "yankee fan" tax in Mass. :) Try negotiating wearing a Sox shirt...

Seriously, you should be able to do better, less than $31k including destination and ad fees. I paid $30,650 back in January for an '05 in the Boston area and have read of others getting similar deals throughout the year. I negotiated end of month/quarter/year for mine (post Xmas week).

    Good luck,
Former (still, I guess) Mets, current Sox fan. Always hated the Yanks.

I know my audience when in Mass, mums the word re - Yankees.

So I should be in $30k range, is it rediculous to think below $30k? I've just begun my dealer contact, that was my first quote. I'm willing to travel for the best price so I have made contacts in CT-RI-MA.

Was your $30,650 including dest and fees?
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
That's too high, at least by $734. They pay about 29,734 wholesale, tack on 1000 for hold back (they do have to make something), so they are tacking on another 1000 on you. I got the dealer to agree to about 30,700. wait until the end of the month.
  • laurasdadalaurasdada Member Posts: 5,208
$30,650 included dest and ad fee (this is Acura of Boston). Doc fee was $197 which includes "free" state inspections for as long as I own the TL at $29/year (another tax...). The scam is that brand new cars have to pay the $29 tax when you buy, older cars that would never pass the inspection are, of course, exempt. Other dealer I dealt with, Clair Acura, was at about the same price, but way too low on my trade so A of B made the sale. Pleasant shopping at both dealers. CLair doc fee was "only" $99, but no "free" inspections.

I wouldn't think it would be too difficult to do under $31k. Not sure about sub $30, but it is getting later in the '05 model year, one never knows. I also got 2.9%/48 months through Honda Finance, check Acura's and Honda's websites to see if they have offers. Neither dealer was aware of the 2.9, I was and they each had to go on-line to confirm that I was correct!

Boston market seeems very competitive, 3 Acura dealers within 20 minutes of my home. More not much further away. Good luck, keep us posted.

Stopped at a couple of Dealerships in the middlsex county Nj area. Best price quote was $30,995. Maybe I should wait a couple more months, new model comes out in September the salesman tells me.

Hi, ok, so the last time i bought a new car was my 92 nissan sentra. since then, it seems like the environment for purchasing new has changed. what would you suggest a good strategy for buying via the internet sales manager that everyone seems to be posting is the best way? I've gone as far as "submitting my info" to two different local dealer's websites, Glendale Acura and Keyes Acura. I've gotten responses back to "come test drive the tl". I've already driven it and i want to talk turkey, so should I just reply and say...i want this and that for $$$ amount, can you do it? or, i guess, what's the proper "etiquette" for this? is there a site or something that has a guide? i'd like to see if i can finagle a few extras like wheel locks, splash guards, mats, etc

sorry if this sounds lame, but 92....that's a loooong time ago. i haven't walked into a car dealership since then. i've been buying used - private party since. btw, it took all day, but i did end up getting a great deal on that sentra!
  • delmar1delmar1 Member Posts: 744
You will be receiving a more detailed response with a quote shortly... The email you received is the acknowledgement note. You should get good pricing from both. Also consider getting pricing from other LA dealers too.
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
There are many Acura dealers in the SF bay area, it this really helps when you play them off of each other on the internet. It also helps when you let them know that you are interested in another brand.

Just picked up a new TL with Navi tonight. Best Experience I've ever had. Called and talked with the internet sals manager, went back and forth. Got the car with a trunk liner for $35,500 "out the door." Best experience. Fountain Acura of Orlando, FL
  • golferheregolferhere Member Posts: 27
I would tell them the price you want to pay (would suggest just above 30K fr non-nav, and about 32K w/nav.). Then have them throw in the protection package as a deal maker. I would recommend Acura of Glendale, as that is where I bought mine, and I think they are great people to do business with. Good luck.

Well, I sat in a TL several weeks back and fell in love! After taking one for several test drives and cross-shopping several dealers in SE Michigan, I got a price of $32,852 "out the door" for a Nighthawk Black / Parchment Non-Navi with 5 Speed Automatic. That was including all taxes, title, plate transfer, destination, cargo mat, mud flaps, and wheel locks. I think that was a pretty decent deal (I was paying approximately invoice on the vehicle). The salesman was even able to located one coming fresh from the factory. Ok, so what's wrong with that you may ask. Well, unfortunately, the service I received was much less than I expected. Below is the actual e-mail I sent to the salesman, the Sales Manager, and the Dealer Owner documenting what occurred... Needless to say, I've walked away from this situation and will wait to see if there are any August deals on 2005's or I may look into ordering a 2006 after the model year changes are known. I just hope the next Acura salesperson I deal with is more competent.

    Subject: URGENT: Regarding Acura TL

    Xxxxxx –

I have several concerns and wanted to provide them to you in writing:

    1) On Friday, 7/8/05, at approximately 5:30 PM, I spoke to you via telephone and stated my desire to purchase an Acura TL. You told me at that time that you could locate and obtain a vehicle (in the color combination of my choice) within 2 or 3 business days. I also informed you that I would be faxing over a credit application. You indicated you would call me upon receiving it. I faxed the credit application to you approximately 5 minutes later and never heard from you. Even after calling your mobile phone and leaving a message for you I never heard back from you. I then spent the weekend wondering where, and who, might have access to my personal information (name, address, Social Security number, etc.) This was the first time you told me explicitly that you were going to do something and failed to follow through.

    2) On Saturday, 7/9/05, I emailed you directly to inform you that I would like for you to locate a Black / Parchment Acura TL and again requested that you confirm receipt of my credit application. After not receiving a reply from you via email, I was required to telephone you to obtain confirmation. I contacted you at approximately 11:00 AM Monday, 7/11/05. You told me at that time that you were looking for a vehicle, confirmed that you had received my credit application, and told me you had not yet read your email. After confirming my color choice with you verbally, you informed me that you would make the appropriate inquiries and that you should have a response (and additional information for me) within approximately 24 hours. After nearly 3 days I had still not heard from you. After 3 days, I seriously wondered if we still had a deal. This was the second time you told me explicitly that you were going to do something and again failed to follow through.

    3) At approximately 11:30 AM Thursday, 7/14/05, I received a voicemail from you stating that you had “good news” and requesting that I contact you. For professional reasons I was unable to do so until the morning of Friday, 7/15/05. On the morning of Friday, 7/15/05 we spoke directly and you informed me that a vehicle was being shipped from the factory and was due to arrive "approximately" mid-week, or Wednesday, 7/20/05. This is nearly 2 weeks after I originally contacted you to state that I wished to purchase a vehicle and is much longer than the “2 to 3 days” you originally told me it would take to get a vehicle. This was the third time you told me something that failed to be true.

    4) During our conversation on Friday morning, 7/15/05 you also stated that you would have your business manager process my credit application and that you would contact me later that afternoon. As of Monday, 7/18/05 (12:30 PM), I have still not heard from you. This was the fourth time you said you were going to do something and failed to follow through.

I have not purchased a new vehicle in 7 years and $32,852.00 is not an insignificant amount of money to spend on a car. These are two primary reasons I find it is necessary to trust the dealership and salesperson I am dealing with. Another is that I can only assume that the type of service I receive from a dealership’s Sales department is indicative of the type of service I will receive from their Service department. Unfortunately, I can no longer trust your ability to do what you say you are going to do and have been very disappointed in the level of service I have received from you. Therefore I must cancel this purchase. Please do NOT process my credit application if you have not already done so. I will NOT be purchasing a vehicle from you or Suburban Acura at this time. I am certain however, that since you seem to be so busy working on so many other deals you will not miss my business.

    Sincerely,

    (My name here)

Does anyone have any experience buying an A-SPEC in AZ or CA. I am looking for one w/nav. Best quote so far: 33.7K + 5.2K for A-SPEC +t&l. OTD is 42.765K. Thanks
  • rich48rich48 Member Posts: 21
I just purchased an 05 TL with nav for $33,100...$35,150.out the door with tax etc. at Open Road Acura in Wayne NJ. The gave me the KBB price for my trade..$9000 for a 00 TL with 79000 miles. I think this is a good deal and I think Montclair Acura, a close competitor will match the price. I have to wait a few days for the car..silver with quartz.
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
Seems like a good deal to me. :)

Silver with quartz, interesting, I have only seen the silver with a black interior. Can you, or someone else, describe the quartz interior to me?
  • nightcrawler29nightcrawler29 Member Posts: 146
Well Terry, don't know how to answer that one... but I'm sure they are getting some incentive in some way because otherwise, people in CA wouldn't be buying the TL's at the prices they have been posting, and they have a 7.75% sales tax. Don't know, it may depend on what state you are located at. But its possible to get invoice or bellow invoice depending on what date you shop, and how's the inventory on that particular dealership, and how much sales they have done in that particular month.
  • nightcrawler29nightcrawler29 Member Posts: 146
So base price for a TL w/nav was $33500 and OTD was $34060??.... what's the sales tax rate in SC??
  • rtchinrtchin Member Posts: 10
Hi just curios, what should i expect as far as fees go? buying a TL in the LA area. I got a quote for $32,500 plus tax, lic., dmv and CA tire disposal fees. tax is tax. 8.25% for us lucky socal folks. but what should i expect for the rest of this stuff? also, a silly question, does the tax get added on the end or before the "fees" are tacked on?

i'd really like to get it at $32k even plus tax and title with the protection package. keep dreamin? or is that a possibility?

    thanks!
  • nightcrawler29nightcrawler29 Member Posts: 146
Well I recently bough my TL in the Dallas area and paid in cash, and found it to be a good incentive for the dealer. I bought on 7/13/05 and talked to several dealers through email and phone, and the usual answer I would get after telling them it was a cash deal was "yes we also play with money"..... but if you got your checkbook on hand they really find it hard to let you go that easily because they know you might go to the competition. Ofcourse your chances are better by the end of the month and with a dealer that has a larger inventory. Cash is king for sure and gives you a great advantage. For dealers, well there's no credit checks, financing issues, and other situation that might be costly in terms of time. If someone drops in with $3xK something dollars in hand, and they have to increase their monthly sales, they won't let you go that easily.
  • rich48rich48 Member Posts: 21
The quartz interior is a dark grey color that gives a little contrast and goes well with the silver accents. I originally wanted an ebony interior but the car was unavailable in silver so after seeing the quartz I decided I liked it better. I hope I still feel that way when I get the car!
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
Hey, you will love your TL, I guarntee it. :P It sounds like a great interior.

  • weno2weno2 Member Posts: 38
I'm considering a AT/non-Navi and I'm curious what the $ are in the area. I live in the City, but have no problem trecking as far as Libertyville/Naperville, if the $ is right.
  • ljlmjlljlmjl Member Posts: 5
Just got back from a local Acura dealer having a red tag sale with all cars taged with their lowest price. All TL's with navagation are $32,725 without navagation $30,975 and all RL's are $44,975. These prices do not include any extra like floor mats. I know this dealer and they do not budge off their price. Are these good prices? I can't see going to a bunch of different dealers to save $100. You'll use up your saving in gas. Also most dealers give the first Oil change free & discounts if you use their servive depatment. I can see traveling to other dealers to save $500 or more but if were talking $200 or less I don't see the point.
  • brickyardboybrickyardboy Member Posts: 3
I'm in Indianapolis and looking for the same non-Navi. The market is surprisingly quite firm here, so I checked at Libertyville (they had great feedback on this forum). Libertyville has the best price quoted so far. By a lot. The only dealer I've seen under 31k.

I'm seeing if their price will move the dealers here. If not, Southwest goes from Indy to Midway very cheap and I have a friend in the city with wheels to get me to a dealer. It's a good excuse to see a college buddy. I figure my go date is Saturday July 30 (end of the month at that!), so I might as well solicit bids from other chicago dealers. I still hope the locals come down tho. LMK what you see weno, and I'll do the same.

Wondering which Dallas dealer you bought at and what issues, if any, you had in getting the best price ? Did you try to augment the deal with add ons (trunk mat, etc., or work mainly on the price ? If you had a trade, were they fair or not ?

    Hi there,

I currrently live in Lafayette, La, am looking to purchase a 2005 TL with NAVI.
The price quote I received from Acura, Baton Rouge was $35232 with deck lid spoiler, NOT including TTL. This seems a little high.
Just wondering where TL owners in Louisiana might have purchased their vehicles.

Thanks in advance for any information.
  • delmar1delmar1 Member Posts: 744
The question was " does the tax get added on the end or before the "fees" are tacked on? "

Taxes are on 'purchase price" of the car + documentation processing fee + smog fees (which should be zero for a new car). Think of it this way....not on license fees...as that would be double taxation.
  • nightcrawler29nightcrawler29 Member Posts: 146
That was in Arlington, Texas, which is near Dallas. I bought it from Vandergriff Acura, and had no issues after we agreed on a price. I negotiated through email and phone and had Vandergriff and McChurchill competing against each other. It seems that they do the window tinting on all cars, and I think all come with wheel locks. I wasn't interested on the trunk mat, so didn't made a big fuzz about that. So I pretty much worked on the price, and made sure I had tinted windows. I found them to be fair and pretty straight forward. Just make sure you get everything on paper once you reach an agreement. If you are traveling from far away, get an email from them detailing colors and options included, base price, and OTD price. They will ask you for a deposit, which is ok, but ask them to send you that email in return before you go pick it up. The internet manager was really good, he even picked me up at the airport, and he gave me very good service with no hasstle.
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
That is too high. However, I live in Northern Califronia with many Acura dealers to bargain with. Simply contact another dealer on the internet and see if they will beat that offer. I believe that price is MSRP, you can do better than that. Good luck. :)
  • rich48rich48 Member Posts: 21
Those prices seem very good to me. What dealership are your talking about. I just purchased a TL w nav for $33,100 at Open Road Acura in Wayne NJ.
  • rich48rich48 Member Posts: 21
Thanks can't wait to get the car!
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
I was referring to post #3923, your price is great. Sam said the dealer offered him a TL for over 35k, not OTD. I thought he could do better than that.
  • laydilaydi Member Posts: 9
Just got a quote for $33,305 (including destination) for Anthracite/Ebony w/ Nav, wheel locks, mats, splash guards and deck lid spoiler installed.

OTD should be approx. $36,354 (8.75% tax + $80 title and license + $55 doc fee).

From what I've read here, I think this is aggressive pricing but I'm curious to know if anyone has advice on how to approach the dealer for lower pricing. I told him that I knew invoice was $32,5K and wanted a below invoice deal. $33,3K is his first response and the end of the month is approaching. Not sure where to go from here.
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
Plus there is a 1000 hold back, so I think you can do better.
  • delmar1delmar1 Member Posts: 744
Laydi... First...glad you are considering going with a TL...and sad that you had to hear all the lunatic trolls on the other board.

As for pricing...this is what I would suggest. If you have not done so...get bids from other Acura dealers. Don't get locked into a single dealer. Be willing to drive 200 miles if necessary.

Also...I hope you did not just walk in and get bids. Rather...deal with the fleet / internet manager...who generally have better prices than the general sales people. Should be able to negotiate a deal via email before you step foot into the showroom.

As for the deck lid spoiler...maybe consider getting a bid without the spoiler then purchasing it after wards and getting the dealer to install. That might simplify the negotiations.

The week is still young. End of month is here...but keep the dialogue going. You will be in a TL soon enough.
