So true, it's just a detailing job, shouldn't be so expensive. :P

    kyfdx:

I found a website providing car leasing service. For an Acura TL w/ navi they quoted $449 for a 39 month/12k mil lease term with $0 down. I only need to pay lic, doc fee. Almost all other leasing companies or dealer offer around $100/moth more than they do for the same kind of term. What's your comment? Is there anything might be hidden?

    Thanks in advance.

If a deal sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

Kutu, I went to John Eagle today and they pretty much said you lied about paying $32,500 for the TL with Nav and that they won't go under $33,500. I'm pretty sure they are blowing smoke.

Can you tell me who you dealt with at John Eagle? You can email me at jmyoung67@yahoo.com
  • aggiezaggiez Member Posts: 3
FYI, I just received a call from David at Champion Acura. They gave me a verbal quote of $31,100 for the non-Navi TL. John Eagle quoted me $31,500 for the non-Navi, so the $32,500 for the Navi doesn't sound too far off.

Sterling McCall Houston has been the worst. The "sales manager" told me they don't deal in "distressed merchandise" and told me he couldn't come close to the $33,500 that John Eagle quoted as a first offer in an email. Pretty strange technique since they seem to have the most bloated inventory in the Houston area. That probably explains why the place was nearly empty on a nice Saturday afternoon.

The "sales manager" also ignored my wife, which didn't make a good impression.

    $35,670 MSRP
    $33,000 Selling price
    $33,695 Cap cost (selling price + acq.fee)
    3yr/36K lease
    Residual 58%
    Money Factor .0024
    Payment $492/mo. + tax

Due at signing.. 1st payment, security deposit, title/license..

This is for an AHFC standard lease...

So... the third party lease price seems better.. But, you have to find out what they mean by "Zero down".. I've rolled the acquisition fee into these lease numbers... Some "Zero down" leases end up requiring $2500 at inception.. The hypothetical lease deal above assumes around $1300 upfront..

Thank you all so much for your postings! I'm in the market, and have gotten a first offer of $33,371 w/nav. $37,074 for an OTD price. Which seems a little high...but in line w/what i've been reading. I'm in phoenix, Arizona, if anyone has experince in the state, let me know! Also, does anyone think that I should hang out for a better deal, or maybe even wait for the 06's? :confuse:
  • risa00risa00 Member Posts: 17
Well we have decided that we aren't going to get a good deal on a TL in the Seattle area because cars here are just so expensive. :( We think it might be better to buy out of state and pay $500 or so to ship it to us. We're looking for a hard to find car.. manual, navigation TL in preferably blue or green, but opened to other colors. Could you please list your local dealership that you would recommend trying? Thanks!
  • kutukutu Member Posts: 4
When I went to John Eagle, I dealt with the internet salesperson. I don't think all acura dealers can sell the car for $32500+TTL anytime, because not all of them are "hungry". So you should probably call all acura dealers in Houston and tell them that you are a serious buyer and that you're firm with your offer. Leave your phone number to show how serious you are. The dealers that need to sell cars to get a bonus from acura will sell it at minimum profit.

After getting the deal I wanted, I asked the salesperson if I should tell people about the price. He did not give me a solid answer.
Try again towards the end of the month and on the weekdays. If they are still "hungry", the will sell the car at the above price.

Not defending the dealer, but TL's aren't distressed merchandise and most Texas dealers are only sitting on 35/40 days of inventory ... sometimes there can be a clash of "personalities" not price ....

Is the protection package only the splashguards, wheel locks and trunk tray? If so, I went to acura.com and saw that they cost $89, $49, and $99 respectively. By my count, that adds up to $237. Then why are people saying it is a $300 value? My dealer said it would cost $395. Anyone understand what the deal is with this? Thanks.
  • delmar1delmar1 Member Posts: 744
Risa00... If you are looking for a blue or green manual Nav....I seen many down here in Southern California. Look for my post a few days ago which listed suggested dealers. Work with a few to get a great price...and I am sure they can swap a car within the area for your delivery.

Negotiate with the Internet Manager...get your price via email...close the deal. Take a flight down to Southern California for pickup....and drive it back home. That would a nice driving trip.
  • delmar1delmar1 Member Posts: 744
Stevensn.... You are correct in your calculation of $237 if you purchase items individually. However...I believe those are uninstalled prices. Now...you could easily install all items (especially the trunk tray)...and the wheel locks would the most difficult (but can be easily done by all DIY'ers.

People here appear to have rounded up to $300.

Cheaper yet is to buy from one of the advertisers here on this site. Believe it is HandA-Accessories.com or something like that.

    Protection package is highly recommended...

From what I could tell Sterling McCall has by far the largest inventory of TL's on the lot, so either they are ordering too much, or they are ceding price to competitors. And why would he feel the need to put down John Eagle simply because they gave me an opening offer of $33.5? After all, that is still above what the vast majority of people on this forum are paying for the Nav before TTL.

There was most certainly going to be a clash on "price" if Sterling McCall tells me they won't bother getting down to John Eagle's opening quote.

Thanks delmar1! I sent price quotes off via email/forms to the dealers you had mentioned. I received one this morning from Los Gatos Acura which is already better than what you can do up here. Haven't negotiated at all but 'Price for our Deep Green Pearl 2005 Acura TL with Navigation and 6 speed manual is $32,555 plus tax/lic/doc fees.' That's $3k below MSRP! I'll just keep doing this and hopefully we can get to a good price. Thanks again.

Kutu, did you buy a brand new TL or a demo?
  • kutukutu Member Posts: 4
BRAND NEW. The car was just off the truck, it still had the protective stickers, and the seats were still wrapped in plastic. It had only 2 miles, and that's because they had to go get inspection sticker. I'm going back to the dealership on Tuesday morning to get my car tinted. If you're ready to buy, I can meet you up there with the sales receipt.

Anyone know what the best loan rates are out there now? I assume the honda rate specials of May have not returned in June. I went to lendingtree.com and got a 5.29 for 48 months from Capital One. Anyone know of anything better out there?

I am close to making a deal on a TL w/ Navi and I want to be prepared when I ask the dealer what rates he has.

    Thanks

    Hi Golferhere,

I live in the valley...Glendale to be exact! I was going to start TL shopping in the next few weeks. What was the total OTD price at Glendale Acura? did that include any of the options? ie wheel locks, weather mats, splash guards, etc?

i was considering the accord/solara, but i decided to move up in to the TL market.

    Thanks for the help!

I'm about to start the process of collecting offers in the Houston area on a TL with Navi. Can anyone shed some light on the extra costs above the price of the car?

You all have mentioned prices on the car from $32,500 - $33,500, but what was the out the door price with taxes, fees, etc.? What extras did you pay for (leather protection, etc) and were they worth it?
  • golferheregolferhere Member Posts: 27
Hi there-- You need to go to (or call) Acura of Glendale, and talk to their Internet and Fleet manager. I drove up from San Diego, and would do it again....She will work with you and is great to deal with. Although I'm not sure they'll do it again, my OTD price was right at about 33,1xx.......It included the protection package (splash guards, trunk mat, wheel locks) and the deck lid spoiler. Our agreed on price was $30,500, and there were no hidden fees...Like I said, I'm not sure they will do it again, but even if it a couple more bucks it is worth it to deal with a quality, classy dealership.....Hope this helps.....Give her a call tomorrow!

I got a 5.09% for 60 months on my TL with AHFC through the dealer. He said that was probably the best rate I could find. I checked a couple of online quotes, and they were all higher, so I just trusted him and went with that. I figure even if I could get a slightly better rate, it was so little difference in payment that I shouldn't feel too bad, like $10/mo for each 1% change in rate.
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
Chump change in 5 years. :P
  • delmar1delmar1 Member Posts: 744
Risa00 - glad I was able to help.

Glad to hear that you are emailing the Internet Managers. Whatever pricing you are receiving in response...know that you should be able to negotiate further down. Don't ever take it as a static and definitive price. And leverage up to get the price driven down further.

Also don't rule out any dealers which have been battered down by others here on the boards as you never know what pricing may be provided for your consideration. Keep your options open as opportunties may arise to obtain excellent pricing.

Hope you take personal delivery of the car, enjoy So Calif, and drive it back up to Seattle with joy.
  • stayfit50stayfit50 Member Posts: 5
Looks like a good price right now on a TL with Nav is around $32,500. Do you all think that the price is this low because the 06's will be out in just three or four months, or do you think similar (if not quite as aggressive) discounts will be available for 06's? I'm curious because while I would prefer to wait to buy a TL until the fall, I would hate to pass up a great deal by waiting.
  • nightcrawler29nightcrawler29 Member Posts: 146
I'm thinking about buying (not leasing) an acura TL soon. I would like to know what you all think about buying a new 2005 or buying a 2004. In economic terms, it seems that it would be better to buy a used 2004 because a new 2005 is around $5k more expensive (give or take) and then once you drive the car out of the dealership, it looses a big chunk of its value. Wouldn't it be better to get a used 2004 with 15K miles or less, that already has license?... well heck, you might even find a used 2005 model going for less than a new one (once you crank the numbers)... ofcours a lot or researching needs to be done, but a good buck can be saved.... after all... the 2004 and 2005 models are the same. Please let me know what you think about this.
    ;)
  • proffyproffy Member Posts: 46
2004 models are not $5000 less, they are maybe $2000 less. In general, cars don't lose a big chunk of their value as you drive it off the lot - they depreciate roughly linearly. So I would get whatever one you like the most.
  • tawneycattawneycat Member Posts: 114
I disagree that most cars depreciate in a linear fashion. The first year can be brutal for many makes. With good selling cars like the TL it would be closer to linear than say a Ford Taurus which could loose 30% in one year while a TL like the 04 I sold went for 29k with 11k miles or so which amounts to a 10% loss.

My argument would be if used car is selling high due to demand the new 05 becomes attractive. Why give up new perks and warranty for $3,000?
If a TL runs well for 10 years that is $3,000 per year so I had no dilema selling my 04 for 29k and buying a new 05 for 31k. I say 3,000 because I paid $32k for my 04 TL back in DEC 03. Prices have actually come down.

Buy a 05 and get new car financing around 4.25 for good credit. Pentagon Federal and others have this.
  • delmar1delmar1 Member Posts: 744
The $30,934.32 (quoting in cents???) is a little hot still as I take it not to include the 'protection package' or anything else. Appears to be the initial quote...ask them to do better on pricing and packaging.
  • liferulesliferules Member Posts: 531
I think that's a pretty good price. Protection packages are over-rated IMO. The car comes with a very nice clear coat and warranty against rust, etc... If you want tint, I'm sure that can be thrown in (in fact, most of the Dallas dealerships automatically tint the cars when they arrive...).

    Good luck.
  • delmar1delmar1 Member Posts: 744
liferules.... hmm..the protection package has nothing to do with rush and clear coat. Protection package includes wheel locks (so you don't get your rims and wheels stolen), trunk tray (homedepot hauling), splash guard (rock spray to damage your fenders).
  • liferulesliferules Member Posts: 531
    delmar1,

My bad. I was confusing it with packages from other automakers. Nevertheless, these can usually be haggled to be included pro bono in many instances.
  • delmar1delmar1 Member Posts: 744
liferules...no problem....just wanted to ensure all readers recognize the terminology of 'protection package.' What is most important is everyone compares deals apples to apples...and not apples to oranges. So if you have one deal with and one without...obviously you want to score on the protection package. So at the price indicated in the original post...the price is a little high as many other quotes are lower in price and include the protection package.

Been lurking on this board for the past few weeks as we prepared to buy a 2005 TL automatic with navigation. Thanks to all posters for the very useful advice that helped us determine what type of deal was possible. Bottom line: we got the car for $32,200 + TTL. (Also, starting June 30, 1.9, 2.9 and 3.9 % financing is available on TLs, and most if not all other models.) The price included the protection package (trunk tray, wheel locks and splash guards) as well as door and fender edge guards which this dealer (Acura of Concord) installs routinely on all its cars.

The deal was struck entirely via internet and phone. We emailed every Acura dealer in Northern California and within an hour's drive (we are fortunate in that there are more than 10 such dealers), identified the car we wanted (we weren't too picky as to color), told them we were buying within three days and asked them for their best price. Based on previous posts, we even emailed a couple Southern California dealers (Keyes in Van Nuys and Glendale Acura) in case they came in dramatically lower and made it worth flying down (btw Keyes came in at $32,000 but it wasn't worth the trip). The initial responses to our emails were all over the map, ranging between 33,500 and 32,500 (without the protection package). Fairly quickly, we were able to winnow down to two or three dealers that were serious (the serious ones usually call you back rather than only emailing back). My wife worked the phones and got a dealer in the South Bay to come down to $32,200. We then contacted our local dealer (where we'd done a test drive) and asked them to match the price. They did and we picked the car up a few days later with no hassles.

Lessons learned: cast your net wide as you'll increase your chances of hitting a dealer who needs to move some cars; buy near the end of the month (again, more are desperate to make a sale); make the dealers tell you their best price rather than telling them what you'll take (until the very end), and if possible play two dealerships off each other. Best of luck and thanks again for all the info. This is a great resource.
  • png5png5 Member Posts: 3
I've also been checking this board over the past few weeks. Finally, snagged a deal in the South Bay for $31,900 + TTL for a 2005 TL w/Nav but none of the extra goodies. Figure I can add that later if I want. Went thru the internet and was able to get them to come down under invoice. My guess is that they have quite a bit of stock and '06 is right around the corner. Also got the 1.9% financing for 36 months. Thanks for the diligent postings from everyone to help me make my decision.

Where has anyone seen this financing? I haven't seen it on the incentives pages of car websites or on Acura's incentives on their websites.

I am going to be looking to buy a TL and my current lease is up in December 2005. Any recommendations on whether I should try to get a 2005 TL with good financing or wait for a 2006?

If I buy a 2005 TL, when should I look so I still get a good selection of 2005 models, before 2006's take over the lots? Any advice is appreciated.
  • stevensnstevensn Member Posts: 4
Wow, Cali has some great prices. Working w/ 4 dealers in Michigan I can't find a price lower than 33,600 (including navi, destination, prot pack) + TTL. Unfortunately I deemed the drive back from CA too long (even to save $1000+) and went with the above.

Oh well, I love the car ... won't worry about price too much :-)
  • diablodelsoldiablodelsol Member Posts: 4
I'm looking at two very different areas, Bay Area and Phoenix, and only the Bay area dealers knew about the rate specials, he said they were from Honda of America, however none of the Phoenix dealers knew anything about it. As a side note, CA dealers are coming in close to $1,500 cheaper then Arizona for an OTD price...who'da thought CA would be CHEAPER in something??? :surprise:
  • liferulesliferules Member Posts: 531
That's an awesome price! I believe its the best price listed on this forum since I've been reading it (6+ months)! I've seen people paying more than that for a TL w/o nav...

    Congrats!
  • minspaminspa Member Posts: 10
Great work png5. The extras we got included could have been bought separately on-line for about $300 and installed without much trouble so it sounds like our deals were comparable. I agree that inventory is high and many Bay Area dealers are fairly anxious to move it out.
  • dennycranedennycrane Member Posts: 3
Is a certified pre- owned 2004 TL w/o nav 6MT with 20,600M @ $29800 reasonable. I walked out on the dealer, I'd hate to go back with my tail between my legs. Now I am thinking I might as well foot the bill and buy a new one. I'll be keeping it for a while. Even if I won't drive it much because I use public transportation. :confuse:
  • golferheregolferhere Member Posts: 27
YOU ARE BEING SILLY. Go get a new one! Certified is a great program, but if you negotiate right, it should not cost you more than $1000 extra to get a brand new one. You can then probably get just what color combination you want, and start off with no miles. A new one hasn't been driven well over 20,000 miles by someone you don't know......Its a no-brainer. ENJOY YOUR CAR, whichever you decide........What part of the country are you in?

Ok so I just started requesting quotes through email to the only 2 dealerships in Austin that sell Acuras. I'm looking into buying a 2005 Acura TL w/Nav. I received an email response from McDavid Acura, who gave me an initial quote of $33,892.28. Then I got a call from Sterling Acura (right after the other dealership) which gave me a verbal quote of $33,892.28 (same as the other dealership). I'm not sure if these two dealerships belong to the same owner, but I have the impression that they work together. Anyway, what is the proper way to deal with the salespeople as they seem to want to force me to go to the dealership, or they won't email me any quotes or give me any useful info. Also, I notice people keep mentioning how much they paid for their car, but do not mention what was the OTD price of their cars (price + tax + title + License). I know the OTD price for each state could be different as different sales tax rates are involved, like for instance, here in Austin, sales tax is 8.25%.

Is it a good idea to negotiate the car based on OTD price, having researched the invoice price; instead of the price of the car by itself?? I mean, who cares about delivery fees, documentation fees, and these other "out of the blue" fees that they usually want to add on top of the price of the car and plus TTL. Does anyone have any thoughts about this, or any advice on what dealership to contact in Texas for a good deal? Thanks. :confuse:
  • png5png5 Member Posts: 3
I'll be taking delivery next week since I've got contractors working around the house this week. Can't wait to enjoy it as much as everyone else I've been reading about.

Anyone knows about either TSX or TL lease payments in the South Florida area?
Specifically 36 month or 39 month leases through Honda Finance. Can you include in your responses total inception costs? My Accord 03 EXV6 36 month lease is up at the end of the year. My payments are 369.89 monthly. I got a sweet deal on this lease: due at inception was first payment plus tag only (security deposit waived from Honda Finance). This was Jan 2, 2003 so I got an end of year deal. I am getting offered by Honda Finance an early release, if I lease another Honda/Acura.
  • stevensnstevensn Member Posts: 4
Yeah, finance guy at the dealership showed me the honda/acura internal finance website and all we saw was low finance rates on MDX, not any other models.
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
I went to the Concord dealer and didn't have as much luck as you did. I got Acura of Marin to hold a car for me for 2 days, and Concord would not do that, and I completely understand why. However Concord would not match Marin's offer of about 30,700 for a non-Navi. However, I gave 31,000 because they were so accomodating. I live in Walnut Creek and the Concord dealer would have been much more convient.
  • laurasdadalaurasdada Member Posts: 5,208
    Denny Crane.

I bought an '05 TL in Janurary. I got quotes from two dealers at invoice (including ad fee), ended up paying 30,650 for new non-nav. I'd go for an '05, or knock a few thousand off the 29,800 offer.. Someone posted that Acura/Honda is offering very low financing also.

    Good luck, great car.
