elvis4prez has good advice.. Go to your local bank or credit union, and get approved for the best possible financing that you can...

Then, don't just ask your dealer to match or beat it... Ask them to beat it substantially.. At least a half-point or more...

And, your credit score? Don't worry about a few inquiries.. You got a great credit score by paying all of your bills on time... As long as you keep doing that, you'll never have anything to worry about... The only time a credit score needs to be managed is when your credit is not very good..

I actually have read articles on MSNBC and CNN lately that quote FICO officials as saying as multiple inquiries for auto loans or mortgages within a 30 day period will not harm your credit score. The credit scoring agencies have apparently figured out a way to notice that you're shopping for the best rates and will not penalize you for it.

They understand that if you have 15 hits to your credit report for an auto loan that you probably aren't going to be buying 15 cars. The same, however, can not be said for applying for credit cards. Multiple inquiries for revolving credit (credit cards) can and will send your score lower.

STill don't have the car - but yesterday they said I could get the 06 TL w/nav for 33,800. This does not inculde ttl. The dealer would not have the car in till 2-3 weeks. I plan to stop by and sign the paper work today. Will find out then if there are other hidden fees.

... **I actually have read articles on MSNBC and CNN lately that quote FICO officials as saying as multiple inquiries for auto loans or mortgages within a 30 day period will not harm your credit score ..... **

I think this another case of newscasters "making" the news instead of "reporting" the news ..... drop 15 inquiries on a mortgage or a car loan and you'll find yourself living in the same place and driving the same car .....

Just got a quote for a 2005 TL, NAV, Auto, with protection package, all season mats and window tint for invoice $32,600, $35,000 OTD all fees and tax with my own 5% financing at 60 months. Total cost with financing over 60 months is $39,895.

Is this a good deal? Any input is appreciated.

    Thanks.

ppotter, does that price include destination charges and tax? I'm assuming not, but was curious. Acura of OP has a few 2005's left and I may be pruchasing one in the next day or so.

    Thanks!
  • karmavermakarmaverma Member Posts: 2
I think that depends where you got the quote, mvc_jones. I just picked up a 2005 TL, blk/qtz, no NAV, Auto for invoice (came to $30,900 with destn, wheel locks and splash guards) this week. This is in Columbus, OH. This was the last black one (non-NAV) the dealer had remaining and he wouldn't go below invoice. If your dealer still has several 05s sitting on his lot, he might be more desperate (esp with the month end).

IMO your price seems to be few hundred bucks below invoice (considering the accessories) so that is good by any standards. Try to get him to beat the rate you are working with.

    Hi Tigal,
The trunk boot is a rubber lining that fits the trunk - protects from spills etc., and removes easily for hosing off. It came with the Pro Pack, which varies from dealer to dealer. Mine included mud guards, door molding, wheel locks and the trunk liner. As for the delivery, I paid zero for it - the dealer offered to deliver the car to us in Santa Rosa since we were spending the weekend there. We had six Bay Area dealers looking for our color combo, black/quartz, and Niello wanted to insure that we went with them.

I don't know the exact name of the Teflon coating - will get it for you. Don't go through the dealer for it unless you can get them to throw it in free. One dealer told us it would be over $1000, but most auto body shops will do it for around $250. Took the car on a road trip through the Central Valley - lots of bug splats, and when we got home they wiped off with a damp sponge. The coating can be applied to the undercoating, but we didn't have that done.

I am in an area with one dealer so negotiations are a bit tough. They have about 12 2005 TL's on the lot, so are trying to move these before the 2006's, which they are reluctant to negotiate on.

At a few bucks below invoice, seemed like a good deal. To get the price at 32,600 with accessories, I could not get Acura's 3.9%, so I am using my own 5%/60 months which is a pretty good rate right now.

Also, does anyone recommend getting GAP insurance through the dealer?

And should the dealer be calculating tax on fee like Doc Fees, title, etc..?

    Thanks.
  • podrespodres Member Posts: 58
My dealer told me 2 weeks ago that by the end of the month, all his 05s would be gone. Guess what? They are all still there in the lot, gathering dust.

As it happens, he has exactly the car I want, and he doesn't know that I am as interested as I am. Where should I start in making in offer? Invoice? Below?

    Awesome Deal and Service...
For anyone wanting an excellent deal and 5 star-rated services including being treated like Mr. Bill Gates, I highly recommend Ron Tonkin Acura in Portland, Oregon. I just drove 3 hours down from Seattle and picked up my 2006 Acura TL blk/blk/auto/nav and was personally greeted at the door by my well-dressed internet salesman. (I don't trust car sales people) but now I do with anyone from this dealership. He first informed me that the owner demands that EVERY customer is to be treated like the owners personal friend, if not then the employee may be discharged that same day.

Here are the facts, not only did they have my car at the right price... they treated me extremely well, My salesperson welcome me to the dealership then walked me over to my new beautiful car and gave me a full breakdown of the features. Then he introduced me to my finance guy (Figured this is a hand off) but not. Within maybe 7 minutes I was fully financed with Honda 3.9%, welcomed and congratulated on my purchase then escorted back out to my salesman.

My salesman then sat me down and went over the details of the warranty, sections of the owners manuals and other important information as a new owner should have. He also gave me personal recommendations which he was very knowledgeable about.

Finally, he walked me back out to my car and again reviewed some of the more important features and programmed the Nav system for me to get home. While we were loading into the car to go home a couple came up with a big smile and asked the salesperson if this was the car they came to see.... He politely explained to them that it was sold TO ME ! as he had tried to get them to place a small deposit to hold the car but they thought it was a salesman’s trick... NOT.

Anyway... the car, dealership and whole experience was excellent, I still can not believe it was so smooth... not catches, no extra charges, nothing but professionalism. I would recommend this dealership to ANYONE and would buy there again. I'm bothering to report all of this because they earned it and consumers need to know when a dealership performs this well.

Nice write-up, Nick. Congrats on the new car. I had a similar experience with Acura of Boston, delivery-wise. It took a while to negotiate the deal I wanted, but we got there. Enjoy your TL!

    Directly from Fair-Isaac's (FICO) website:

What to know about "rate shopping."
Looking for a mortgage or an auto loan may cause multiple lenders to request your credit report, even though you’re only looking for one loan. To compensate for this, the score counts multiple auto or mortgage inquiries in any 14-day period as just one inquiry. In addition, the score ignores all mortgage and auto inquiries made in the 30 days prior to scoring. So if you find a loan within 30 days, the inquiries won't affect your score while you're rate shopping.

Forget the differences in features. Assume that the cars are identical. The question is, what does it take to make the prices on an '05TL a bargain?

I did a tiny bit of research on Edmunds, and learned that a typical used TL, 3-5 years old with 40,000 miles, is worth $1,750 more than the prior year's TL with identical mileage and condition. So from that I deduce that the 05, brand new in the lot, is at least $1,750 less valuable than the 06 with the same features.

From what I gather from these boards, it is not unrealistic to expect to get an 06 TL for $1,000 over invoice. Difficult, perhaps, but not unrealistic. From there I conclude that, to get the same value on an 05, you'd have to buy it for $750 under invoice. Is this possible? Is my logic good? Comments? Thoughts?

NBW, thanks for getting me excited....Ron Tonkin is where I'm flying to (From Salt Lake City) this week to get my car. I talked to the internet manager on the phone and he talked about you and how he has seen a few guys from this forum.

I am excited to get my TL, and your write up brings me some piece of mind for the big road trip ahead. I'm also excited to get some good bonding time between me and my TL. Thanks for the story!

Awesome tale. Did you get the 33.5 or 34 deal (with what, if any, extras) for your TL Nav?
  • mdodgemdodge Member Posts: 3
Does this price include TTL? I am in the market for a TL 6-speed w/o navi.
  • nbwnbw Member Posts: 18
I'm not one to give away money but given the value of the TL and the very satisfied owners, I consider a "good deal" really anything under MSRP. I think we would all agree that the market is red hot for these nice cars... over 5 to 10 year ownership period the few extra dollars will be long forgotten.

For that matter, stick with the MSRP and have them throw in some options, no matter how you cut the cake... it's an excellent buy.

It's a really nice car, well built, dependable, reliable and has great resale value.
To top it off, seeing how I was treated so well at my dealer in Portland, Oregon... I won't be buying a typical American car ever again. Gone are the creepy car salesmen or sales managers that I'm used to buying from each time I bought before.

I have a counteroffer of 33,600 including TTL for a 2006 w/o Nav. Is this good? Or should I hold out?
  • bartalk3bartalk3 Member Posts: 692
Your logic is good except if the TL owner keeps his car for, say, 10 years, not 3-5. In that case, the used price difference between the '05 and '06 will be much less than $1,700. So, one's decision to buy a leftover '05 or an '06 depends primarily on how long you intend to keep the car. Some people know, but as it's impossible to predict the future--who knows what lies ahead--it's pretty much of a crap shoot.
  • bartalk3bartalk3 Member Posts: 692
The price you quote, $33,600 for an '06 non-NAVI, is all of $335 under sticker. You can do a lot better than that.
  • hotdamnhotdamn Member Posts: 3
    The 33,600 was OTD.
  • prime203prime203 Member Posts: 20
if you can get the TL under msrp for the 06, its a better buy... for obvious reasons (newer car, and the tire pressure monitor). Just like bartalk3 said, you never know whats gonna happen in the future, i had an 04 infiniti FX35 and sold it cause of lots of electrical problems and horrrible infiniti service and originially i had purchased that car with a 5 year finance intending to own it for at least 7 years... you just never know. I have a question though, it seems like the TL is the only Acura model thats built in the US... not to put down american made vehicles, but id never buy a ford or chevy because they are unreliable (and just so happen to be built in the US) what do you think about the TL longterm reliability?
  • bartalk3bartalk3 Member Posts: 692
Honda Accords built here are just as reliable as Accords built in Japan (or at least I've never seen anything to the contrary). Same for Toyota Camrys. I don't think the fact that the TL is built here, on the same line as the Accord in Ohio, has any bearing on its reliability.
  • bartalk3bartalk3 Member Posts: 692
hotdamn: We need to know the sales tax to get an idea of what kind of a deal you got.

never buy a ford or chevy because they are unreliable

Not true. I have an American built 1995 Chevy S10 V6 with 175,000+ miles on it that still purrs like a kitten. Probably put all of $500 into it over/above regular maintenance items (oil, tires, serpentine, batteries). Damn good truck. Most vehicles will last and perform for you as long as you takecareofem.

How's that Infiniti again? Is that American made?

Looking for an 06 TL in my garage soon. If it holds up as good as the truck I'll be happy. The US auto worker has learned a thing or two in the past few years about the car building business. I'd buy American - or I should say American built.
  • hotdamnhotdamn Member Posts: 3
In NC, I believe it is 6%. That is our typical sales tax. I am not sure if it is different for motor vehicles.

I got an offer from the dealer in Overland Park, KS for black 06 TL w/NAV for 33,435 + 179(doc). They don't even have the car on the lot. It will come on thur. Do you think it's a good deal?
  • elvis4prezelvis4prez Member Posts: 85
HE** YES -- 33435 [even with a (usually hate 'em) doc fee] is a GREAT deal.
Is this the best one posted yet?

Beats what my dealer was selling for.
Went in to negotiate on the last day of the month yesterday.
    I couldn't get below 35.2 (maybe 35) for nav+protection package  .
I'm holding firm at 34 which is a reasonable and fair deal but still so very disappointed.

Too bad Kansas (and a good deal) is so far away
How much for shipping? How has that worked for others? (Rethinking my optionshere)
  • lmuellerlmueller Member Posts: 29
You said this was in Houston? Can you name the dealer? We are considering a 6spd 2006 TL, and are also in Houston. Thanks in advance!
  • misha444misha444 Member Posts: 2
This car doesn't come with any protection package. I still think it's a good price. You should be able to go down to 34K. The invoice on that car is 33K without protection. Have them beat somebody elses price. Don't think I have to pay for shipping. I live like few blocks away from the dealership and they had the car on order already.

Just picked up a 2005 TL with NAV/Auto for $32,100 with body molding, wheel locks, tint, mud flaps and a $150 service credit in Phoenix. Had to use my own 5%/60 mo. financing to get this deal, which is essentially $1000 below invoice, meaning they gave me the holdback.

Seemed like a good deal to me. Any opinions?

Also, I was offered a wheel and tire warranty for about $450. Is this a good idea? Can get a tire warranty for $100, but was wondering if there were issues with bent wheels with the low profile tires and the always present road rash on the wheels due to curbs.

I guess this is at Acura of BR? Still haven't tried to make a deal, I walk the lot every other sunday and their inventory is really low. Do they have a blue one in yet? They don't have any rsx's and they only have one RL and not that many TL's. Basically my life right now consists of working all the time and walking Acura of BR's lot every other sunday. :(

what's a good deal on a 2005 TL these day's? The Dealer offered me one for 31k

Does anyone know if there are any Dealers in Northern California, and/or So Cal that will deal on a 06 TL, auto, with Nav?
  • tronchasertronchaser Member Posts: 1
Does the price of $32,100 include the destination charge?
  • elvis4prezelvis4prez Member Posts: 85
You only have to pay destination (included in your 33435).
I was talking about buying a TL from KS (if I could get that price too) and shipping it to Baton Rouge where the deals stink in order to bypass them and still come out ahead..

I told BR 34 even (incl pro pack) is a fair deal (defined as both parties being happy and respecting they have to make a little money too) and didn't budge.

They left my money on the table.

The sales guy was nice enough about it and I guess and we parted on semicordial terms. I even got a reply email thanking me for the opportunity to earn my business and sorry we couldn't meet my price; also that it was their best deal and he hoped we could still do business. ... C'mon, you know what to do.

Achenator: no blues (vehicles, that is). I've got the "crappy deal for a TL" blues, tho!
Send me private email if you want to chat more about the heartbreak.
  • mvc_jonesmvc_jones Member Posts: 88
Yes, destination included. Did not include Doc, license/title and registration which was an additional $600. Total OTD including all fees and taxes was $35,000 for 2005 TL/NAV/Auto with the accessories mentioned.

I was offered 2005 TL for 31k Brand new does it sound like something to jump on

I think that's a good deal. Assume it is w/o NAV. Makes sure there are no surprise fees.

I picked up my new 2006 TL Tuesday! Wow, I didn't even realize how nice it was back when I test drove one last month. I got a silver/ ebony automatic w/ nav. $34,020.00 + TTL.
Can someone tell me if a SACD is compatible with the audio system? Is it the same as a DVD-A? Thanks
  • podrespodres Member Posts: 58
    Very nice price.

SACD is not hte same as DVD-A. Format wars rear their ugly head. I don't think it will work in the TL. But another format -- DTS - should.

    Happy motoring.

Got an '05 TL w/o Nav for 30450 including protection package. Dealer offerred a '06 w/o nav for 31500 but 1050 in pocket felt good and since I am keeping the car for the long haul it did not make sense.

Great car, drive is fantastic, stereo is superb, interior materials are high quality

After 1 week of driving it...felt much better than my new maxima 9 years ago
  • stripe1stripe1 Member Posts: 72
I almost bought a 2006 TL w/o navigation from a dealer outside Philadelphia, for $600.00 over invoice. That was before I looked at a 2006 Accord Sdn EX V6 w/o navigation. I know that the TL is a little more up scale, but in the end I bought the Accord, and have $7,000 more in my bank account. The red beauty Accord that I bought cost $24,618, which included destination charges. I added a gold package, mud guards, wheel locks, and wind guard above moon roof. I'm not stating not to buy the TL, but do like I did, and test drive the 06 Accord, and then make up your mind. Honda did a great job on the body styling of the 06.

I in around 7500 on a 325i lease. dealer offers 4200 cashback I give bmw another 3k or so to terminate lease. Should I jump on this????..

Hi Nick. I am also a Seattlite and may be interested in getting a TL from Ron Tonkin Acura in Portland. I assume you got a better price than was offered by the Seattle dealers. Was it worth the hassle of buying a car out of state? Speaking of which, was it a hassle to purchase the car in Oregon, then pay taxes and get tags in Washington?

Thanks and congrats on your new baby.

    Tom
  • jinvajinva Member Posts: 41
Good information. We are in NoVA as well. So far we have only walked in to Pohanka. We have test driven, but no 'getting down to business' yet. If the deal isn't good enough, we will have no problem getting up from the table and going elsewhere.

Glad to know about Chevy Chase. Do you mind sharing what your deal was?

I need to make a decision quick,

2006 TL Automatic with NAV, Silver/Ebony
    +carbon fiber steering wheel
    +tinted windows
    +wheel locks

offer is 36,000 including TTL (drive-out price)
    Is this a good price?
  • elvis4prezelvis4prez Member Posts: 85
36000 OTD (incl TTL) could well be a good price especially with the 519wheel+?tint+49locks included.
Give a better breakdown especially before TTL (that can vary depending where you are); that would help. Where are you getting the offer?

Curious about the wheel. Was it already on the car or something you wanted? Not appealing at first glance or worth it to me but if it suits you that's what matters.
  • nbwnbw Member Posts: 18
Definetly worth the drive and by the way... dealing in Oregon at Ron Tonkin Acura is no hassel at all. they collect the sales tax and the lic. will come in the mail.
I like the fact that Ron Tonkin Acura tells me that loads of Seattle people come their way..

Portland is ready to deal, Seattle is not.
I can't mention the salesmans name but if you contact the internet salesman you will deal with my guy. He is a square shooter, I learned to like him quickly.
