Just got my 2006 TL NAV in Royal blue with Quartz from Chevy Chase Acura in Bethesda after waiting 3 months for the new 2006 models. I requested quotes from a bunch of dealers in the area via the internet. Most of the other dealers in the area did not respond or came back with nonsense designed to get me in so they could pull the standard tricks.

The internet sale mgrs (sorry no names, rule 6) of Chevy Chase Acura (Bethesda, MD) and Criswell Performance Cars (Annapolis, MD) both responded promptly with very good prices. Both quotes were easy to understand and provided out the door pricing per my request. Good job guys. Too bad the other dealer had such a hard time with such a simple request.

The Chevy Chase internet sale manager was the first to respond so I talked to him first. The guy really knows the Acura and Honda product line and had lot's of 1st hand knowledge with both (loves his Ridgeline P/U). I found him to be very straightforward and honest, and we were able to work out the details quickly to get a great out the door price.

I drove over and picked up my car yesterday and it's great. Love the Royal Blue, looks great day or night.

As a tip to those of you who finance most of your purchase. If your car is distroyed within the early period of ownership, the insurance companies will only pay you the market value of your car... NOT WHAT YOU OWE. This can be a large amount if you finance 100% and wreck your car in the first year.

Welcome to Gap Insurance. Everybody seems to sell it so I went to my State Farm agent, it only costs me around $2 per month extra and I can remove it at any time. Just a tip for those of you. I financed 100% due to Acuras 3.9% interest rate.

I'm close to pulling the trigger on a TL. I've been to MacDavid in Plano where I drove a '05 and Churchhill in Fort Worth and took a spin in the 06. Poor old guy at Churchill couldn't handle all the features and wasted valuable driving time trying to get the blue tooth to work, I told him his competition was able to get my Treo to pair just fine and we moved on :)

Last time I bought a car (Oddesy for my wife) I just called around for good deal and went in to pick up the new car.

Still trying to decide between lease (closed or open) and buy. Curious what folks are getting an '06 TL Auto/Navi out the door for (including TTL).

Heck with Southwest here, I'll fly out and drive back for a good deal, that would be fun!

Halloween special offer was 33,440 (MSRP-2500), tax is 2090 and T+L cost 260. I am in Dallas and there are 4 dealers in DFW metroplex. Talking to these guys added carbon fiber steering wheel, tint and wheelocks for 210 more, total price of 36,000. All accessories are being installed as new.
  • drat3drat3 Member Posts: 4
hostage46, see the prices on my post. I liked McDavid and Vandergriff. Keep talking to these guys. I felt like Goodson Acura was not trustworthy and the salesmen not very friendly.

.. **If your car is destroyed within the early any period of ownership, the insurance companies will only pay you the market value of your car... NOT WHAT YOU OWE** ...

No kidding, welcome to the planet earth...!

But it's a a very good reminder though and most folks do forget about Gap on financed vehicles, especially if there was a trade involved ... it's the cheapest insurance you can buy for potentially a very costly mistake ...

    Thanks for the reminder ....

I bought from Goodson and they were pretty solid (the internet sales guy is not the F&I guy though). I definitely received the hands down best, most desperate bid from Vandergriff. I personally had nothing but high bids and arguements about how they are "as low as we can go without going out of business"...

Good luck hostage46. I agree that there are so many dealerships nearby (check FW also) that you can really haggle down to a good price. I think $33,400 is very good for an '06.

I was just noticing, this TL forum is reaching its 5000th message, and the guy who created this topic only logged in once and posted one message back in July 2003. I wonder if he knows how fun its gotten in here!

Seeing as how I am a respected engineering professional, I don't need someone to refer to me as an idiot by your commented edit of "No kidding, welcome to planet earth". I don't know who you are or who you THINK you are but you have no business editing my post with your personal comments. Either add your own or delete mine. Your lack of maturity is obvious.

Unfortunately you have just placed this forum in the trash so I’m out thanks to you.

Seeing as how I have never had to deal with any insurance claims, I was under the belief that my extra coverage would supply "replacement value" as my homeowners does...
that is WHY I BOTHERED TO INFORM OTHERS !

Thanks for ruining what I thought was a good forum.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,528
Your car insurance does offer replacement value, just like your homeowners... And, just like your homeowner's insurance, the amount of debt you have attached to the collateral property has absolutely nothing to do with the amount the insurance company pays..

The big difference? Very few people have a mortgage balance that is more than their house is worth, but many people owe more on their car loan than their car is worth..

The insurance works the same either way.. They'll pay enough to replace the insured property.. What you owe on it, is your problem..

Additionally, you are free to ignore posts that you don't like... and that is what I recommend.. And, respected professional or not... no one called you an idiot... those were your words..

liferules, I went to Goodson 3 years ago to buy a MDX. The guy looked at me like I cannot go up from an 97 Subaru to a brand new Acura. This pissed me so bad that I left and bought a Mercedes SUV instead.

This year I gave them another chance and went to get a quote for TL. They said they will send an email which I did not receive for 3 days. When I called to ask, he said they will not give me a quote because I did not say I will buy the car that day. Despite this, I still called them several times to get them into competition. They never gave me an absolute value, always said "if you bring us a written offer, we will beat it" I beleive this is a gimmick used by all dealers since none of them gives any written quotes, including email. I gave them one last chance "to beat it" when I was driving to the other dealer to buy. Amazingly, he did not beleive that I am buying the car to the price I told him! So I bought my TL from competition without any hesitation.

They will not give you a good deal unless you promise them to buy it on the spot! I am sure, they are selling cars to some people like that at or near MSRP since they 're still in business. If the salesman I am talking is not friendly and helpful, that dealership is not for me..

Bottomline, Goodson is NOT so good son!

    Hi,

What is your SNOW experience with the stock Bridgestone Turanza tires that come with the TL? Do they have a good grip or have you changed to snow tires?
  • mvs1mvs1 Member Posts: 462
Just a little curious after your post. Do lease companies still offer open ended terms??? Haven't hear that in awhile.
  • laurasdadalaurasdada Member Posts: 5,212
With one New England winter "under my tires" on my '05 TL with the Bridgestones, imo (and check out tirerack.com) these are very poor in the white stuff. The TC and ABS came on quite often, much more than in my previous ride which had Goodyear Eagle LS tire. I haven't changed over to snows (yet) but when the Potenza's have worn, I will definatley look for a higher snow rated all-season.

If you stick with the Bridgestones, I hope you are an experienced snow driver, i.e. leave plenty of distance between you and other cars, brake early and gently, no jack-rabbit starts, etc. Sensible driving, FWD, electronics and luck kept me in the direction I intended!

Good luck (and to me as I prepare for another winter, although it was over 70 today in Boston!).

    Drat3,

I'm sorry to hear about your terrible experiences at Goodson. I was fortunate to have only dealt with the internet manager and he was pretty straight shooting from the outset. I agree with you completely, though, if someone won't give me a direct price, I walk. Just like getting estimates on home projects, I hate it when they just say "I'll beat your best offer". That implies they are too lazy to calculate a bid on their own...

I have pulled up TMV for 06 TL Nav on Edmunds.
It was 35156 a week or two ago.
    Now it is MSRP 35940.
    Anyone can explain??
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,528
Why it has changed? No idea.. I can link you to how they calculate TMV, but for changes on individual models? I can't help you with that... It could be a change in recent data that they have collected..

i'm wondering when you guys felt would be the approximate time when the dealers will be dealing closer to the invoice price for the 2006 TL's. I was reading the prior posts and it seemed that beginning in december 04 they were beginning to get some good deals on the 2005 TL's. Do you guys feel like it'll drop similarly this year for the 2006 TL's?

thanks, btw, i'm in southern cal.
  • laurasdadalaurasdada Member Posts: 5,212
I bought my '05 TL during the week after Xmas, '04. Two Boston area dealers were willing to sell at invoice (+ doc fees, of course). I bought at invoice from the dealer who gave me a much higher trade on my 300M.

I believe the post Xmas week is a good time to negotiate, end of month, quarter, year! And some kind of "inventory" tax?

3.9% I've heard but can't find on acura.com or edmunds.

There is $500 marketing support for 05 TLs (go for 500 below invoice?) for 05; too bad not 06! :P

I think it's too much for the '05. I just got my 2006 TL with navigation for 32700. (northern cal). If you want an '05 and willing to wait until after Thanksgiving or better yet Christmas you'd be able to get it below invoice.
  • jsa23jsa23 Member Posts: 13
Hey alec110...Does that price include TTL?
  • unipureunipure Member Posts: 7
That is really good price. Could you share dealer's name.
  • liferulesliferules Member Posts: 531
Wow! $32,700 was great for an outgoing '05 model. That's pretty much at invoice for an '06! Please share details...
  • acura2acura2 Member Posts: 1
Picked up a Beige 06 TL w/o Nav + Pro Pack for
$32k + TTL + $398 (Doc Fee) = $33,432.00 out the door from Leith Acura.

Not the greatest deal, but this forum let me arrive at my offer and close the deal in 5 minutes. Thanks.

I HAVE JUST RECENTLY BEEN LOOKING AT THE 06' ACURA TL W/NAVIGATION AND WENT TO TEST DRIVE ONE IN BEAUMONT,TX. ( CLASSIC ACURA) WHAT IS THE INVOICE PRICE FOR A 06 TL. THE MSRP WAS $35,940 AND THE SALESMAN I TALKED WITH SAID HE COULD PROBABLY COME OFF $400 FOR THE SPLASH GAURDS AND THEN ANOTHER $500, AND THATS IT. IN MY MIND THAT IS STILL TO STEEP, DO YOU THINK IT IS POSSIBLE TO TALK THEM DOWN UNDER $34000, HOW DO YOU COME UP WITH THE INVOICE PRICE AND WHAT IS IT, ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!
  • nfurlownfurlow Member Posts: 20
HAS ANYONE HAD ANY LUCK FINDING SOME GOOD DEALS IN BEAUMONT/HOUSTON, TX AREA. I COULD EVEN GO TO SHREVEPORT OR LAFAYETTE, LA. IM LOOKING FOR A 2006 TL W/NAVIGATION, I WOULD ALSO TAKE AN 05 WITH LOW MILES, HAS ANY ONE HEARD OF ANY GOOD PRICES
THE BEST I GOT OFF WAS 1000 OFF MSRP, DOES IT GET ANY BETTER THAN THAT?
  • needaride1needaride1 Member Posts: 22
won't you just get a 05 there no differance and you can find a great deal
  • goldenboygoldenboy Member Posts: 5
    Hi Laurasdada,

what price did you end up paying at A of B? I got a quote on $30,900 for an 05 w/o Nav at Clair Acura on Nov 6.

    Thanks
  • invasianinvasian Member Posts: 19
best i got was 1000 off msrp as well. I want to say i called 3 dealerships. seemed like the salesman was ready to deal (-1000 quote). still seems a little steep to me as well. I'll try and wait it out a few more months. You can get an 05 navi for about 35 walkout easily without haggling.

I am looking at buying a 06 TL with Nav system in TN. How close to invoice will dealers go before adding TTL onto the price. I heard a fair deal is a base price of $33,500.

  • alec110alec110 Member Posts: 3
Mike Harvey Acura in Burlingame, CA. This is the 10th car I bought/leased in last 12 years and this was the most enjoyable experience ever. I spent no more than 7 minutes on the phone with the dealer negotiating the price then went to the dealership, signed all the papers and drove off. Very painless experience

Also considering '06 TL auto w/navi..Living in NY but moving to Fl and getting prices from dealerships in both states...quoted 3 base prices of 35,040, 34,940 and 35,940 (came down to 34,940) but yours is the lowest I've heard so I would be curious as to what the "additional fees" would be (perhaps yours isn't auto?) I have asked all 3 dealers to give me breakdowns on every option, and every fee (believe me they seem to make them up whether they add them on after the base or include them in the base or BOTH!!) Total estimates range from "out the door prices of $40,687 or 39,047 or 38,385...challenging them all for various things (outrageous registration costs, "dealership fees". They also lie just to get you in the door...I really wanted Anthracite/Camel but they no longer are doing that combo for '06 but I had a dealer who insists he can get that for me..of course when I get there, I will hear that it is no longer available! Still doing my homework. Good luck!

Alec110...The price they quoted you was before TTL correct?
  • bmwdougbmwdoug Member Posts: 248
Alec, thanks for the information. The $32,700 was for a 06 TL with Nav, correct?
  • fotoholikfotoholik Member Posts: 1
I recently contracted 05 TL w/ navi Demo(3300miles on it) @ $30500 with 6.19% APR but I cancelled it(because they charged me dealer charge I did not knew about it. It was $200). Was it bad move? I cancelled it because the dealer was so rude and I believe I do not have to buy the car with bad feelings. so I am waiting to buy 06 TL w/ Navi around LongIsland NY. Does anyone has an idea How much I can buy 06 w/ navi after Christmas? or present price? I would like to buy the car for 32500 w/ 5.25% APR will it be hard to get this price? And I would like to know what is the interest rate these days... thank you

Hello, GB: Let's see if I can remember the details (Non-Nav '05):

Clair was at $30,800 including their $99 doc fee. But they didn't seem interested in my trade, so off I went to A of B. Too bad, I spent a bit of time at Clair, nice experience. Also just a stone's throw from home. I really wanted to buy there, but the trade was an issue. So...

A of B: After about 45 minutes of negotiating, $30,850 which includes their ~$200 doc fee. Note that the doc fee includes lifetime "free" state inspections, including the first one @$29/year. Of course it ain't free, just pre-paid in the doc fee. But they offered me 50% more on my trade (with the corresponding sales tax advantage), so they won. Another pleasant experience, straightforward dealing.

Both dealers were fine, I think you should be able to knock a few more $ off, but $30,900 doesn't seem too bad (does it include doc fee?). You could always cross shop A of B and negotiate further if you have the time/desire. A of B stated they would never lose a sale on price.

    Good luck, keep us informed.

    What was the catch?
10 cars in 12 years is wild; another story there??

    Give us breakdown, please.
    $ Car + $ doc? + $ accessories + ?other + Tax + TL
  • goldenboygoldenboy Member Posts: 5
    Hi LD,

    That's for the info.

The salesman at Clair just quoted me $30,900 as we were talking. I wasn't planning on buying hat day so I did not get as far as doc fees and such.

It's seems as if all Acura salespeople (or at least te ones around Boston) go to the same training class because Herb Connolly Acura of Framingham also told me verbatim that "they would never lose a sale on price". But they refused to give me a quote over the phone.

I'll probably give Herb Connolly a visit and unless they blow me away, I visit A of B afterwards.

    Thanks again.

BTW, if anyone else has purchased a TL in the Boston area and wouldn't mind sharing their experience with the dealer, I would most appreciate it.
  • dpowell2dpowell2 Member Posts: 3
Sir: You've asked alot of questions any one of which could make an entire discussion. About the "doc fee" the dealer surprised you with. This is an industry wide practice and the prices range from just under $100 to $300 or $400 or more. After you have done your home work and make your first contact with the dealer make it very clear you are asking for an "out the door" price. Repeat that every time you haggle back and forth. Ask "And this is the out the door price, right?" Because dealers have short memories. Just this week finalized my new car purchase like this. First get at least two sources for dealrs cost on the base model and all of the accessories you might want. I recommend Consumer Reports and Edmonds. In my search Edmonds came in a little higher each time but they were within a couple of hundred dollars of CR. Once you know what the dealer paid for the car figure in a FAIR profit. Depending on your area and the make of car between 4% and 10%. I used 6%. Add that to the dealer cost, then add the freight costs and this will give you a good starting price for your haggling. Do not do business with dealers who won't quote you via the internet(a very nice feature of Edmonds package, or phone. Walk out of dealerships who produce a bonafide Dealer Invoice to prove their costs are actually higher than your offer. This is pure BS!!! I don't mean talk him down I mean don't do business with any dealership who would use this ploy, or claims to sell for just a small margin over actual dealer inovoice. Same thing, BS!! The price you are shown is the price someone would pay if they could buy ONE car straight from the mfg. Then there are other ways they make profit too. Dealer floor plans, hold backs. So don't fall for any sob stories. In my last transaction on a new 2006, straight off the boat, still in its plastic protective film, we agreed to a price that was $40.00 over CR's recommended price, in one email and two phone calls. During our search we narrowed our selection to similar models from three different mfgs. We searched until wwe found a dealer for each of the three who settled for not more than $100 over the CR price. If three dealers will do it it's a pretty sure bet you've found the right bargaining formula. Many cried, lied, tried every dirty trick. I found three dealers who delt fairly and straight forward. It can be done! be for armed (know what your deealer paid),Set you absolute price reguardless before you contact the dealer. Don't change your mind because knew cars smell so cool! Leave and let them call you back. Don't fall for "fear of loss" tactics. The old well some one else is very interested in this car. I had several dealerships call me a week later and guess what, they might be able to closer to my price after all even though it meant selling the car for less than they paid for it. By the way, when you do find a rare fair dealer, treat him with the same respect that you would like. They are not all crooks. Just Richard Nixon and most car In my search I found (1 of 1)Lexus, (1 of 2)Acura, (1 of 4) Toyota and (2 of 5)Honda dealers here locally to be straight shooters..
