I made a deal for a red RAV4 Limited the last week of January. Salesman told me he would have it in "3 or 4 days". Two weeks later he wanted me to take something else, because if I didn't it would be 8 to 10 weeks to wait for it. We ended up cancelling the purchase. It's really the only color my wife will consider.

The dealer told me the same, although Toyota web site lists the option package that includes the CD changer. Weird. You cannot pick and choose, since Toyota ships vehicles with pre-installed option combinations, as I understand.

How much did you pay? I'm looking at the same model (base model V6 4X4), with side airbags, alloy wheels, roof rack, cargo cover, floor mats. No third row seats, no CD.

    Hi there,

I'm in Southern California and interested in a V6 Sport 4WD. Some options are: moonroof, side airbags, daytime running lights, carpets, 6 disc cd. According to the dealer, MSRP is $27k. I've read this forum and some are able to get something like this for 24-25k? How much should I be paying and how should I be negotiating that price? any tips would be appreciated! :D

I contacted several dealers in Chicago area on RAV4 Pacific Blue Limited 4x4 V6. They all claim that they haven't gotten one yet. They do not expect to get any within a month or so.
I am wondering if anyone in Illinois was able to get Pacific Blue Limited V6 with moonroof, no leather?

    Thanks!

So, tell me do you like your 4cyl 4x4 RAV 4? I'm considering purchasing one.

The deal was for invoice plus $200. The sales manager gave me a breakdown of the base price plus the options and then the holdback. I said the holdback is given to the dealer by the manufacturer. He said it was the policy of the dealer to add it to the invoice.

He gave me $200 more for my trade-in then any of the other dealers. This is in Fresno, Ca.

I ordered a Sport V6 4WD six weeks ago. It should be here in about 3 weeks. Currently, they are asking full sticker. Nothing has been signed yet.

Here are some tips for buying your new RAV4. First of all, the RAV4 is maintaining a 14 day supply at dealerships. Normal supply is considered 60 days. This means they you will not likely talk them down much from full sticker price. If you are planning on financing the new RAV4, check with your bank or credit union first and see what rate you qualify for. I'm getting 4.74% for 36 months. If you just leave it up to the dealer, they can make a lot of money just by charging you a higher rate than you qualify for. Also, if you are trading in a car, go to a CarMax and get a quote from them first. Keeping in mind that you might save a few hundred dollars on sales tax if you trade it in, and decide which way to go. A dealer once told me that the amount you get from your trade-in is sometimes directly reduced by the amount you get below full sticker price. Also, do not ever say what payment you can afford. That is an old trick of salesmen. They will say "can you afford $300 per month"? They can play all kinds of tricks with that payment or adjustments to it. I was helping my brother buy a Nissan a few years ago. They offered him a "paint protection" plan for "only" $15 more per payment. We said no. He kept lowering it until he got to $4 per payment. I thought that was a good deal, being 48 month at $4 = $192. I then discovered that he had added $1400 to the agreed upon sales price. We had it removed. Most experts will tell you that any "paint protection plan" is no better than a simple wax job on your car. Save your money. I've never had any paint problems with any of my 4 Toyotas. Also, Extended warranties can give you peace of mind, but I would never get one on a Toyota. About 80% of a typical extended warranty is pure profit for the dealer.
When you go to the dealer, let them know that you will also be checking with other Toyota dealers also. The mark-up on the RAV4 is about $2200. You should be able to bring it down a little, but demand for the RAV4 Sport is high, given the low supply, so I doubt if they will come down much unless you are trading in a car or financing it through them.
One final note, I hear some people are paying about $400+ for the dealer's "advertizing fee". This is a fee that the dealer pays per car to Toyota headquaters to pay for the nationally made advertising. While this is a legitimate expense of the dealers, I would demand that they lower the price of the car by the same amount. You should not be paying thier overhead costs.

I am planning to buy soon.

Thanks for the advice! It was definetly a little tricky dealing with the car salesmen. The fleet manager I dealt with originally was absolutely fantastic, but it was only after he brought in his boss, did it get ugly. I think right away they just see a girl and try all tactics to intimidate you out of buying. But after few hours of argueing, I bought my Rav! :D I drove it home today. I was able to get my Rav for $400 over their invoice. They were asking for $27,800- and I got it down to $25,900. I think I probably could have got it down more but I was losing patience by that point. Not sure if that's a good deal..but if what you're saying is true about them not budging with the price...then maybe it is. :)

Good luck with your purchase!! I can't believe how much I love this car. It's so fast and drives so smooth! Oh and yes they definetly pulled that trick on asking how much monthly can I afford. I just told them doesn't matter- I'm looking at the bottom line. Thanks again for your advice! Appreciate it!

I found a way to buy the RAV4 and not pay any holdback fees.

I have a relative that works for Gulf State Toyota. He was able to order the Rav4 directly online from their company portal. This way I pay only the invoice price for the vehicle and options I added, plus a reduced delivery and processing fee, and TTL. That's all.. not holdbacks or TAF, etc. This saves me about $1500!

The vehicle is delivered to any Toyota dealership I choose.

Gosh.. it kinda makes you want to get a job with GST! :)

I am sure you will enjoy your RAV for a long time.
    What options you got?
  • wizzobutterwizzobutter Member Posts: 72
Sounds like you got a great deal. I wish I was more agressive at negotiating the price down. I'm good at blocking the tricks and games dealers play though. When I was with my brother, he agreed to a price of $16,200 for a Nissan Sentra. The car came with a $1,500 rebate. Would you beleive that the dealer then ADDED the $1,500 to the $16,200, then applied the sales tax, then removed the $1,500. I asked him what he was doing and he said he had to apply the sales tax to the $1,500 rebate. Did he really think I would not notice what he was doing? He acted like he really believed he was handling the rebate correctly. After I had him do it correctly, he then pulled the paint protection plan scam that I mentioned in my previous post. My brother said he had never seen me that mad. We almost walked out, until the manager fixed everything.
BTW, what color did you get? I'm getting the Flint Mica. That's why I've had to wait 6 weeks so far. I could have had a Silve or Red Sport V6, but I'm holding out. The salesman so far has been so nice and laid back, I'm beginning to think it's an act. It will make it hard to talk him down on price. He even mentioned to me that he took an 80% pay cut becoming a car dealer. He even said yes when I asked him if his commission is based on the amount over invoice. I need to get tougher.

I just ordered a Pacific Blue limited 4WD RAV4 with side curtain airbags for 23190. It should be delivered in ten days. After tax and title (Massachusetts) out of the door price came down to 24635. This was the lowest price I got around here and the dealers do not give in when it comes to RAV4. I test drove two times and loved it. I have to admit though, it was my wife who considered it first. I was focused on a 06 Passat before giving a lot of thought and reasoning. Other than refusing to give any lower price, the dealership was very professional and helpful. I will hopefully provide some follow up in ten days.

Wizzobutter- Thanks, I hope I got a good deal. :) But it's ok, I've had my car for two days now and I'm loving it!! I got Super White. It seems like White is a pretty popular color in California, so most dealerships have them. But yeah, this was the only dealership that had exactly what I wanted and in the color I want. I may have just lucked out because really- I don't think V6 4x4s are very popular in Cali and they may have had this particular one sitting at the dealers for too long and they were just trying to get rid of it. But almost walking out on them several times did help on the negotiating. :) Btw, I was deciding over the Flint Mica, Silver, or White. The fleet manager I dealt with was great- he even called today to make sure I was happy. :)

It's amazing how many tricks are up those salesmens' sleeves! Glad to hear your bother got his car straightened out. How sneaky. I would have never noticed that. My friend told me that when she got her car, the salesman made her feel guilty if she didnt buy because he had 5 kids to feed. LOL geez. I say if you have time to wait, just wait. Stick to your guns and don't give in. Keep me posted on how your purchase go! :shades:

Hi Prash- options I got are: moonroof, toneau cover, side/curtain airbags, 6disc CD, daylight running lights, carpets, tinted windows (I think they come tinted anyway?). I think that's it. I didn't care for the 6disc but it came with it anyway. I think the stock stereo sounds great! I'm glad I didnt pay for for the JBL ones.

Hey neox223, I am in Philly and just picked up Rav Sport 4wd 4 cylinder. The sticker price was $26,329 I got the dealer down to $23,329. All it takes is a little negotions. At first the saleswomen was not working with me at all, so I got out of my seat and said that I will go somewhere where they will help me. I had her and her manager running after me out the door. They sat me down and it was smooth sailing from there. Never tell them what you can pay a month because they maybe able to go lower than that. Just be patient. I know that you are all stoked on getting this new ride but don't jump to quick because they will win. Listen, they are not selling you the car, the car is selling itself, they are just there to try to make some money. Remember you are the customer: The customer is always right. So I ended up getting a Black 2006 Rav Sport 4x4 with the JBL 6 disc stereo ststem, front airbags, seat air bags, side curtin airbags, tenau cover w/cargo net, moonroof, stereo controls on the steering wheel. Overall I am very satisfied with the vehicle. I know the traffic is pretty bad in SO CAL. It is not bad on gas. I drive to Princeton, NJ to work everyday and it is all stop and go (it sucks) but gas wise is gets about 25 mpg in those conditions, but the V6 will get alittle less. Well good luck with your purchase.

I'm in Ohio and the V6 are hard to find at least in cincinnati area.So i guess i'll have to go to Indiana to get one. My question is will the dealer's give me a better deal the more i put down?I'm planning on putting 7500 to 9000 down.Hopen to get Blizzard Pearl 4x4 V6 with option B for about 27,000 with Tax and titel included.
  • kc456kc456 Member Posts: 12
I doubt you will get a better deal. If anything, they want you to finance with them as they make money on it – the more you finance, the more money they make. That’s why they don’t really like cash buyers. At least this is my understanding.
  • JBaumgartJBaumgart Member Posts: 890
It's always a good idea to negotiate the price of the vehicle first before you get dragged in to any discussion about financing (and the same advice applies to discussing any trade-in that you might have). So if you handle the transaction correctly, the amount that you will put down should have no bearing on the price of the car.
  • I sold my '04 RAV4 to buy the new '06 RAV4. Old one was too small and a 5spd that the wife never liked. I bought the new V6 4x4 Limited, I wanted all the options except the DVD Player. So I didn't have to wait any longer I decided to get the sunroof, leather, & heated seats done after market. http://www.paymerandphillips.com/ This place in Laurel does great after market work; they installed sunroof & high quality leather in my '04 RAV. For about $2500, they can install leather, sunroof, and heated seats in my new '06 RAV4.

Ok, I offer up a price on-line. They show MSRP, "their" invoice, and a "Make Offer" button. I made an offer of $350 more than "their" invoice. Their invoice is about $500 more than edmunds.com invoice, probably for advertising and I knew that. The MSRP was $27,869, their invoice was $25,747. Edmunds was $25,245. I offered $26,100 and they took it ($1,779 Off MSRP).
I went last night to do my paperwork and they actually tried to get me to pay $26,100 + $605 for freight, I said no way. I walked the salesman out to the vehicle to let him know the MSRP already included freight, "their" invoice already included freight, and my offer already included freight. I showed him their website and said if you try to get me to pay an add'l $605 this deal is done and not happening. I was very very upset. After a couple of calls, he took off the $605 saying he didn't want to upset me. PLEASE BE CAREFUL AND DOUBLE CHECK YOUR NUMBERS, this was very very sneaky as they did show the $1779 discount to MSRP, but way on the bottom of his sheet, they tried to add back the freight, knowing that I got a decent deal on a "hot" vehicle. I actually signed his sheet then thought for a minute, something doesn't sound right. Also, Toyota Financial won't match Credit Union rates; Toyota was over 6%, while I got a 5 yr loan at my Credit Union for 4.5%.
    Buyer Beware.......

My wife and I just purchased a new RAV4 V6 2WD Limited with the following options:

    1 - Moonroof
    2 - Side Curtain airbags
    3 - Upgraded 9 speaker sound system
    4 - Daytime Running Lights
    5 - Mats
6 - Special color (Blizzard Pearl)

Our "out the door" price was $27,500. What do you guys think? We are in South Florida.

Holdbacks are what manufacturere pays the dealer. It is not a charge that customers pay. For example, it's what allows a manufacturere to sell at invoice...

I've got a quote for a silver limited, v6 with just about everything:

moonroof, leather, curtain air bags, heated seats, JBL, carpet floor mats, tneau cover, running lights

All for $27214.00. We've not started negotiations yet.

Edmund's "invoice" is $27029 for something similar.

Is this a good deal?? Thanks! :shades:
  • kc456kc456 Member Posts: 12
Well, price it on Edmunds with exactly same options, and then you'll know how good of a deal you are getting. I'd consider anything under $500+ from Edmunds invoice to be an outstanding deal, given the supply & demand at this point.

I love this site for helping me find a fair price range for the RAV 4 I was looking for! This is my first new car, which I will probably only drive to work and around town, so I was looking for a 2WD, White Base Model with a few options (airbags, roof rack). I was determined to do this all by myself, namely for the fact that I wouldn't subject my good friends or family to the trauma entailed in negotiating a deal for a car. I did A LOT of research on edmunds.com and pestered A LOT of people about their car buying experience to finally make my decision. After near tears and speeches to the dealer about being a "young working woman who values her money," I got one today for $23,000, out the door. I'm really happy with the price, I think I got a fair deal, and have resolved to not buy any new shoes to make the payment.

The simple way to find out is to get the Edmunds.com invoice for V6 LTD 4WD + your options, then you'll know if it's a good price.

    Base 4 cyl 4wd w/
    roof rack
    side curtain air bags
    cargo mats
    17 in styled wheels
Desert Sand or whatever they are calling Gold these days

$21579 plus tax title and $199 stupid doc fee

I think I did alright considering I was working with a model that flies off the lot as soon as it comes in. :D

    Hello,

I am looking for the same vehicle. What was the MSRP and are you located in N. California? Thanks for any info.
  • carlover8carlover8 Member Posts: 6
I went to many dealer in the bay area and they seen don't have any of the Rav4 at all. However they can order for me for the RAV4 4x2 V6 for 24304 not include tax and license yet and RAV4 4x4 V6 for 25704 not include tax and license yet. Do you think it is a good price for these two cars? Any advice would be greatly appreciated...
IT is over the msrp price because the toyota company already add some of the options like side curtain airbag, 17 alloy wheel, roof rack, cargo cover..
They don't have one that is bare bone standard.
    Thanks

    I am driving a RAV4x2 V6- Limited-with "EVERYTHING" but the 3rd row seat,dvd pkg.,extra towing.
This includes carpeted cargo and floor mats, and the usual leather, heated seats, extra airbags, running lites, and all the other bells and whistles that come w/the limited. My out the door price including tax, licensing, financing etc., was 30,000.
Probably could have done a little better elsewhere, but I was just glad ,to get what I wanted ,and not have to wait the weeks/months alot of others had the time to.
  • tinatinatinatina Member Posts: 388
Hello, I am in the SF Bay Area, where did you get the price for the rAV 4XX v -6. Which trim level is it and what is its msrp? I am looking for the AWD 4, but may go with the V-6

    Thanks.
  • sandyosandyo Member Posts: 6
    Hi tinatina,

I'm in Massachusetts so it's a wee bit of travel for you to head over here to look around!!
    The MSRP was $23509.
    and I got for $21579.
The gold is very pretty. I wanted the v6 limited but I had to give up a few luxuries to keep my current life style.
I think I'm going to put in an aftermarket moonroof though.
Do any of you moonroofers consider it too noisey?

It's funny, I've been back and forth at this one lot for 2 weeks and I've seen 5 Rav's get sold in that time. 6 if you include me. I test drove it within 2 hours after it came off the truck. I was holding out for light colored with curtin airbags and no 3rd row for under 23k.
I hope I'll be happy, its my 1st toyota and my 1st suv. My mini van days are over! The kids have all grown.

sandyo, I'm in Mass. too--would you mind posting what dealer you bought your RAV4 from? Sounds like you got a great deal!
  • eddie26eddie26 Member Posts: 1
    Hi, sandyo,
Which dealer did you buy your Rav4? You got a great deal. What I got was more than yours even not including the options. Thanks
  • woodywwwoodyww Member Posts: 1,806
I got 2 prices today of $28,646, & $28,702 for: a Loaded RAV4 Limited 6cyl. AWD, Leather, remote start, side air-bags, S/R, TO Prep., & Destination, in Silver. Both dealers in E. Mass.
Both for immediate delivery. One dealer told me if I didn't buy this one, they could probably get another one in Silver in about 6 weeks.

Are those good prices? I don't really want the remote start, but the $500 wouldn't kill the deal for me, & in the Winter I might have a different attitude about it.

    TIA for any feedback!
  • hells_bellshells_bells Member Posts: 21
    Woodyww,
Was that the out the door price, or where they going to tack on someother fee?
  • sandyosandyo Member Posts: 6
I bought it at Toyota of Dartmouth. They have 1 black 4 cyl 4x4 with 3rd row left.

If you want the name of the sales man that I worked with just email me. I cannot post it here, I guess you can't email me either. Oh well. Use the internet sales manager, thats how I 1st started with this dealership
  • woodywwwoodyww Member Posts: 1,806
It didn't include sales tax or regis. But I haven't actually started buying the vehicle yet so I don't know what they might to try & add on at the end. Maybe I need to ask for an OTD price as well.
  • woodywwwoodyww Member Posts: 1,806
Thanks for letting me know. Right now I've been talking to Acton Toyota, & Lexington Toyota which are the dealers closest to me, & are both saying around $2K under Msrp for a loaded Limited AWD V6. But I looked up my trade today on edmunds & I may need to scale down my options on the Rav4.....

How do you like the base model you got? It sounds like a lot of Vehicle for *$21579 plus tax title and $199 stupid doc fee*.....
  • sandyosandyo Member Posts: 6
Try www.bochtoyota.com They won't be too much of a drive for you

they had quite a selection of 4 cyl's last week and also offered me good prices. They negotiate over the internet.

I pick up my new Rav tomorrow morning!

My wife and I purchased our 2006 4cyl Sport (Silver) today with the following options:
    -Moonroof
    -JBL audio
    -Side Airbags
    -Daytime Running Lights
    -Carpet Mats

    MSRP: 24,857
Price we paid: 23,630 (500 below Edmunds FMV)

We went to Hank Aaron Toyota south of Atlanta and had a great experience with everyone there. I would definitely suggest getting quotes via the internet from internet sales members. We love it! :shades:

I bought in Seattle - I shopped a number of dealers in person and over the Internet. I paid about $1000 over invoice for a Sport i-4. There are a few v-6 on this side of the Cascades but they have all been Sport.

I went with Rodland Toyota in Everett and had a good experience (as far as car-buying goes :-). My second choice would have been Lake City in Seattle.
  • carlover8carlover8 Member Posts: 6
this is for the base model 4x4 v6 for 25704 at fremont . this is not include tax and license yet. I think it is kind of expensive since they don't have the car yet and need to order it. they have a high demand for v6.
for model 4x2 v6 24304. please let me know if you getting a better deal than these.

    Thanks
