My M35x had 12 miles on it. I fully expected it to have about that since I bought it from the dealers "arriving" inventory. I bought it on a Saturday and it was due in on Wednesday. The dealer called me that it came in as expected on wednesday and I picked it up on Thursday.

There is no reason why you can't expect a $45,000-55,000 car to have miles below 20.

"an interior that just won the "Interior of the Year" award"

Now that comes as a surprise. Who exactly voted the STS as having interior of the year? I'm sure at least the Audi folks would have to argue with that, I know in my opinion the STS has the segments most low-rent, '90s era design relic of an interior.

It's simple. If you consider driving to be fun, you go for the M, any M.
  • lexusguylexusguy Member Posts: 6,419
Interesting. Cant say I agree with pretty much any of those choices, except maybe the A4. Then again, Im not sure what any of the criteria was.

"I just bought a 55k luxury sedan and no one knows what it is or is impressed."

I guess the better question to ask this fellow is whether he bought the car for his personal gratification or to impress others. If the latter he could have spent the same money on a USED Farrari and get heads to turn. For that matter he's only 10 grand south of a NEW Maseratti. That will turn heads as well, the poor man's Ferrari.

I think you can use the DVD with the barking brake set and the car in Park.

They based the Technical Service Bulletin on my car - unfortunately the fix didn't work for me so I'm heading back for try number two ; (

The dealer isolated the (infrequent) clicking sound to my moon roof rails which are on order for replacement. Otherwise, with 3,600 mi the M35 surpassed all my expectations. Superb vehicle in every respect & a pleasure to drive fast.

My on board computer says I'm getting 16.3 mpg but calculated the old fashioned way it's 17.2 and this is @ 1500 miles and the car NEVER having seen a highway. Haven't any roads around here with limits over 45, and lots of stop-and-go in my daily commute. Another little annoyance I'd like to see fixed in the next M-cars: unlatch the fuel door from inside the car or only in the presence of the fob/transmitter. Too easy for pranksters to dump junk into the fuel tank, or in this era of high fuel costs, to siphon fuel out. Tiny refinement ... but worth considering.

The STS was chosen as "industry choice" selection. Looking at "media choice" the Audi's won. Obviously, my preference is with the Audi's...

Yeah I just dont get it. I've sat in the STS, the SRX, and even the XLR. I didnt think any of them were great, but I found the XLR to be the most disappointing. Then again, I'm not "industry". In my completely non-industry opinion, seat design award goes to Volvo, materials and fit and finish to Audi, and interface design and "ease of use" to Lexus.

The fuel door is automatically locked when you lock the doors, and automatically unlocked when you unlock the doors. A very nice touch IMO.

Approaching 5k miles on my M45 Sport and still loving it. I have been out to lunch / dinner alot lately and every time get my car parked in the prominent spot out front. It is black exterior and stone interior, which I like with the brushed metal instead of wood interior. This car is a great combination of luxury when you drive it gently and sports car when you step on it. I have had a number of Q's and a G35 coupe so obviously love Infiniti but this one is by far the best. Absolutely love it and my mileage is running 19.0 per on board computer with a good mix of highway/city driving.

I have the tire pressure right and no noise issue or any flaws to report.

It does need a passenger seat adjustment to match the driver side. I agree that having an interior fuel release would be nice as well as the option of getting rear seat adjustments and sunscreen as an option with the sport model. The craddle for the fuel cap could be a better design IMO too.

But all said, this is one great looking and running car.

Whenever possible we're likely to see cars from the big three getting the nod particularly if they're not head-to-head with the Japanese who are beating them to death. All three are in a world of hurt and everything's being done to keep them perceptably at the top.
  • blov8rblov8r Member Posts: 567
I was unaware of that. That works assuming one locks the doors every time he leaves the car. I do in public places, but not in my carport and I'm certain other times as well. So there are unprotected times and I'm not a great fan of leaving an attractive nuisance out there for vandals and thieves.
  • blov8rblov8r Member Posts: 567
I guess resale and residual don't rate for much when making "industry choice" selection. I don't think our M's will hold up as well as Lexus but they won't be able to hold a candle to the carnage that happens to the Caddy when it leaves the dealer's floor.

I'm looking to change the stock 18" wheel on the M35x to an 18" wheel that looks like the stock 19" on the Sport editions. Anyone know of a manufacturer who makes a wheel similar to the sport edition? Has anyone changed their stock 18" for a new wheel?
  • thenebeanthenebean Member Posts: 1,124
check tirerack.com - the M should be up there, and they will show you all the wheels that fit - and superimpose them on the car so you see what they will look like. see if they've got something there for you!

"Neither car (M45 or M35) should be getting below 16 MPG (IMO)."

    M35x, 2300 miles, 13.8 mpg.

    M35x 600 miles. 18.8 mpg--combo city & highway.

If you city-drive, or step on the gas like you did when you were 18 years old, you will get very poor mpg's. The car is geared for strong bottom-end performance as well as strong roll-on speed. It is the bottom-end that eats the most fuel.
  • richcreamrichcream Member Posts: 205
Not really complaining, it is what it is.

    I drive it like I'm 23. :P

Why do you want an interior fuel door release, when the fuel door is automatically locked and unlocked when you lock and unlock the doors. Seems to me the release is superfluous. Perhaps you weren't aware of the auto locking?

    I checked tirerack, nothing yet.

Try www.tires.com and select the wheels for a 2006 M35X and the avail wheels and plus sizes, too, will be shown.

Several other web sites too -- try google or dogpile and enter Infiniti Wheels.
  • blov8rblov8r Member Posts: 567
Pete ... I don't always lock my car, so having an interior release makes sense to me. As I said in my initial comment it's a very small thing, certainly less of an issue than the doors not automatically locking when starting to drive. I'd like to get the sunglass cubby better insulated ... another minute issue but a nice (and dirt cheap) improvement.

    Love those turning headlights!
  • chef_jmrchef_jmr Member Posts: 41
If you don't lock your car, what's to stop someone from reaching in and releasing the gas filler cap from there? And then not only siphoning your gas, but taking any personal items left in the car! I don't want to start an argument, but seems like a silly excuse.

Our '95 MB S420 had a similar locking mechanism as the Infiniti, I thought it it was very well-designed. The only reason I find for the interior release is forgetting which side my gas filler is on; due to the confusion I get switching between my car and my wife's... other than that...?

    Richcream:

Have you reset the fuel economy yet? My first few tanks of gas had poor MPG, but they have improved 3 MPG since then (and I think I am driving more aggressively now than earlier).
  • hawk1eyehawk1eye Member Posts: 61
John, could you please let me know what pressure you are running in your tires. Cold, I am at 35 psi. Is that what you are using? Thanks to anyone with your idea on what you are running on your 35x. I love my car. Hawkeye
  • blov8rblov8r Member Posts: 567
A very good point. Admit to being living with a false sense of security.

I'm still going in circles. I became addicted to a left side tank ... and now I'm spending half of my gas money getting situated to a right side tank. Illogical. Tank should be at the driver's side.

    Another nag for Nissan.

"I don't think our M's will hold up as well as Lexus but they won't be able to hold a candle to the carnage that happens to the Caddy when it leaves the dealer's floor."

Actually, based on residual values of third-party lessors, the M's resale value will probably be somewhat higher than the GS's.
  • lexusguylexusguy Member Posts: 6,419
Yes. I'm pretty sure the G beats the current IS in that department as well. The turn around from terrible residuals on cars like the I35 and Q45 to competing with German levels on the G and M (as well as beating Acura and even Lexus) is simply remarkable. Clearly Infiniti has to be doing something very right.
  • thenebeanthenebean Member Posts: 1,124
i work at a nissan dealer (not infiniti) but all nissans have an arrow next to the little fuel pump icon for the fuel gauge, and it points to the side of the car that the fuel door is on. i can't imagine that infiniti would be different, but i would check to see if that little arrow is there! may help you get past the fact that the fuel door is on the passenger side ;-)

sometimes, the way a car is engineered, they kinda have to fit the fuel tank where they can...whether its left or right...

i'd be curious as if to that little arrow is there - let me know!

    Docnukem,
Yes, I have reset the fuel economy with every tank. I think I just have a very thirsty car.

    Thenebean,
Yes, there is an arrow indicating which side the fuel tank is on.

Live and learn! Coooooooool! Doesn't change the fact that I'm habituated to a left side door and it will take me a little while to adjust to the other side.
  • cheerioboy26cheerioboy26 Member Posts: 412
I don't know how they decide the fuel door position, but it varies even within the carmaker. My 00 Maxima has the fuel door on the left, on my G35 it's on the right, and on my old Chevy it was on the right.
  • cdnpinheadcdnpinhead Member Posts: 5,618
That little arrow, or some equivalent, is a little-known standard that seems to be applied across many, if not most, of the world's vehicles. It's saved me many times with rental vehicles, for which I never remember to check the fuel door before I get in and drive off.

Two schools of thought: 1) Having the filler on the driver's side is more convenient or 2) Having it on the other side is safer -- when parked beside the road, it's away from traffic. Clearly, there is no consensus.

. . .had fuel filler necks on the right rear fender. I have become so used to that as a "standard, normal and customary" expectation, that I [silently] rail against left side fuel filler necks.

This is an area, frankly, that I [usually silently] think should be standardized. And, while we're at it, why not make the fuel input at the rear CENTER of the car so that it is less of an issue. On the other hand, if all right or all left were the norm, it would seem to me that being head to head at the gas pumps would be a thing of the past.

Also, how about pulling to the forward pump for a change?!? Would it kill "you?" :confuse:
  • msu79gt82msu79gt82 Member Posts: 541
My Infiniti is on the passenger side and yes there is a little arrow on the guage; my Acura is on the drivers side and there is no arrow on the guage. After years of getting gas on the drivers side my Inifiniti has taken some getting used to; but one does adjust to change. One thing I did notice during my adjustment period was that if ALL cars had filler spouts on the drivers side the lines at the gas pump would be longer :surprise:
  • thenebeanthenebean Member Posts: 1,124
i wish it were standard! having used cars on the lot that we frequently need to fill up (for deliveries, test drives, etc) i have found that nissan/infiniti is consistent with the little arrow, and other car companies may or may not have it. its certainly not exclusive to nissan, however i haven't yet seen it across the board. maybe its different in canada? i can't say, i'm just tellin' ya what i see here! :-)

    blov8r,

I faced the same thing with GM. Finally decided on the M35x Premium and then they sell an STS way below invoice ... plus I get an additional incentive for coming off of an STS lease ... plus I get an additional $1000 for having a GM card ... plus there's about $1500 in rebates on the card. What to do? Discussed it at length with my wife and decided to order me a M35x and use all the incentives to get her a new Denali XL. Maybe not the best financial decision, but at least our gas mileage will stink.

pinhead ... sure did today! LOL I never noticed the little arrow ... but sure 'nuf there it is.

Still lovin' my M-car. Best ride I've ever had, and I've personally owned > 75 cars in my lifetime. :shades:

I feel your pain. We currently have two cars with opposite fill sides. All of my Audis have had the filler on the right. I suspect this is the way most European cars are built. Could Infiniti be wooing a market opportunity there?
  • mvs1mvs1 Member Posts: 462
Residual value and resale value are not one in the same. Residual values are ever changing on models during the year and are almost always subvented by the manufacturers financial arm in order to move units. Third party rates are also not a good indicator, history shows many third party lease companys/arms/programs often times don't last after they've been burned. Resale greatly depends on variables such as geography, options and color. Anyone with a current black book, galves guide or quick email to Terry could remove assumptions (i.e. compare competing models with similar MSRPS)

Sorry for posting on this forum instead of the pricing one, but need a quick response...

Have a quote from a DC area dealer for M35x w/Tech and Journey of about $2k below MSRP, incl. freight from another dealer. Need to decide real soon since the car pretty much matches all of my color/option preferences. Is it a fair deal?
  • markcincinnatimarkcincinnati Member Posts: 5,343
Someone will certainly say that they can beat this.

However, it is NOT an unreasonable deal whatso ever based on reading this forum for some months now.

Unless you want and are willing to wait for the exact moment in time for the best of all possible deals, take it.

I bought a black M45 Sport. Car had 65 miles on it already. Salesperson said its from testing. I was like.. whatever. It was almost 11pm when I drove off the lot so i never got a true look at the vehicle. Next day I noticed feint spider streaks or scuffs in the finish from the car being cleaned or polished. The type that need major buffing to get out. The dealer agreed to replace the vehicel with another. They delivered it to where I work & swapped out all paperwork, etc. Rainy overcast day. Never drove it until 6pm. It was a vehicle that was actually in the showroom so I assumed creampuff! When I turned on the ignition I saw that it had 136 miles on it! Now I'm going backwards! Drove it home. Got it into the garage and immediately saw that it too had the swirly lines in the finish. I called the salesperson and complained. She is going to speak with the manager and get back with me. Am I out of line here? This is a boatload of money and I feel I should have a beautiful unblemished vehicle with low single digit miles on it. I'm talking 12 miles, or something like that. I've had many new vehicles and have never experienced a situation like this. Over the years II've bought new a Lexus GS 300, 400, 430, Acura TSX, Honda Accord, Dodge truck, etc. and always had mint condition vehicles with mega low mileage on them. Again 8, 10, 17, miles etc. Any feedback would be appreciated.
