Lexus told me to stay under 60mph, and just to not floor it.

Infiniti sales man told me to stay under 4500 rpms for first 1200 miles or so to break it in.

But, may I be so brash as to suggest that if you want to add an aftermarket supercharger it might have been less costly to just go for the V8 in the first place?

I wouldn't do it ... I was merely musing. I don't put that many miles on a car (7K per year) and my 35 has more power than I'll ever need or use. For the same dough as the base 45 w/ nav I got all the extra goodies ... they have more appeal to me than the extra second getting to 60 (I haven't gotten there yet in the first 1500 miles).

Gas mileage, all in bumper to bumper is 11! I did reset it before leaving dealer, Yuck, i hope that gets better or I will need to add an auxilary gas tank in the trunk!

I do the same kind of driving. Started ~ 13 for the first tank, then over the next 1500 miles each tank was a bit better. Present tank showing me 17.3 and my driving habits haven't changed one bit. Just loosening up, breaking in. Tires feel less rigid as well ... although it might just be me getting accustomed to the harsher ride than my Caddy.

I have an M35x quote from an out-of-state dealer at approx. $2,200 below MSRP. The car's colors and options match exactly what I want. However, the odo reads 39 miles. As previously discussed on this forum, most people would expect a delivery in the teens, and definitely below 20. Should I go with this deal?

I test drove an M35 and have now ordered one, but unfortunately I didn't get to spend enough time to play with the intelligent key.

    I have some unanswered questions:
    1) I notice there are exterior door handle buttons only on the front doors. Does this mean if you have rear seat passengers you need to unlock the doors via remote/interior switch to let them in?
    2) When leaving the vehicle, if you walk away without doing anything, does the car lock itself (and if so, how far does one have to be for that to happen)?
    3) On the same note, if you leave the car running and walk away (with the key), will it shut itself off?
    4) (slightly unrelated) someone posted that there is no autolock (meaning locking when driving away) feature on the M. Is this true?? If so it's a MAJOR oversight on Infiniti's part!

I'm thrilled about the new M and I hope they find me a diamond graphite/bourbon M35 as soon as possible!

Break-In from the M45 manual consist of keeping the RPM's under 4000, not flooring the vehicle for the first 1200 miles, and varying the RPMs.

That said, that is the "dummies" version. The process is intended to machine the piston rings into the cylinder walls perfectly so that no oil or gases pass. It is not a boolean process that is suddenly complete at 1200 miles.

My opinion is that break-in should be a progressive process. During the first 600 miles I follow the instructions to the letter of the law and keep the RPM's varied and low. The next few hundred I keep the RPM's at or under 4000, but start to select gears to keep the RPM's up at sustained 3000 - 4000 levels under light load. This gets a lot of "machining" of the parts without high pressures on the rings (due to light load).

At 800 miles I start to gradual move up the RPM spectrum and add load.

At 1000 I start to put some real load on the engine, but not totally kick.

At 1100, hell, I'm done and ready to have fun.

    My 2 cents.

    Re your questions

    1. Hitting the button on the driver side twice unlocks all the doors.
    2. To lock the vehicle, you need to click the button once or use the key fob unlock button
    3. Twice with valet parking, I left my car running and took the key in with me to the restaurant. The car kept running until they parked it near by.
    4. There is no auto lock on the infiniti

I have an M45 black with stone interior. I love it and have 5300 miles on it now.
  • tomc1227tomc1227 Member Posts: 20
    Thanks johnhw.

To clarify, the car will continue running if you walk away with the key, and keep running until it is shut off by the button? Or do you think there is a time limit that it will run for without a key, or is it proximity (and you happened to be close enough to the car when you were in the restaurant)?

I assume that for safety reasons, the car would never shut itself off when not in park, so the proximity idea is probably wrong...

Congrats on the M45 -- I think just about everyone seems to agree with your experience!

The full-size spare reduces the trunk volume from 14.9 to 11.4 cu ft, or by 23%. Is this option worth $200? Can the full-size spare be used in the normal tire rotation?
  • msu79gt82msu79gt82 Member Posts: 541
Yes the full-size spare can be used in a five tire rotation. I am not considering the M for our primary family car (we have an MDX for that); so we can live with the reduced trunk space. To me it is worth it to have a FSS (I put one on our MDX).

Thanks, that gives me a better feeling. My car rides tight and I am fine with the ride out of the box. What caddy were you driving?
  • johnhwjohnhw Member Posts: 111
I dont know how far away the car would continue to run or if there is a time limit. I see no reference to that question in the owners manual, so suspect it may run until the stop engine button is pushed. I havent tested this aspect further yet.

One additional point, the passenger side also has a button on it for entry as well.

You will enjoy this car, it is fairly incredible IMO.
  • mexibecmexibec Member Posts: 114
m45smay: I think that's a good way to go (increase load over mileage), especially the last step ("ready to have fun") :) One thing I would add, is that at 1200 miles, even if the manufacturer does not recommend it, change the engine oil. It'll be full of metallic particules (invisible to the naked eyes naturally) resulting of the break in, and it's better to get rid of them before having fun!

    sjcbill,

You posted that you got $1000 over cost from a dealer in/near the Bay Area a few weeks ago (msg #2900). I am currently working deals on for an M35 as well, and I'm wondering what dealer it was that offered $1000 over cost.

    Also, does cost = invoice?

    Any help is appreciated!.

Hi. I read your post. Thanks for the good info. I was quoted $689/mo + NJ tax (1.06%) on a M35x with Technology package and Journey Package. MSRP $50,350 and selling price would be $48,950. I don't think I am getting a good deal at all despite the claims of my salesperson that we are getting the best deal available. Please let me now where you obtained your deal. My salesperon didn't give me the MF's or RV. Also, was your deal financed through IFS or an outside bank? Thanks again!
  • a6_to_m35a6_to_m35 Member Posts: 43
You are getting a decent sales price, but you MUST get the Money Factor and Residual Value. Taxes are 6% of the depreciation of the lease.

The MF & Res. numbers change each month, but your lease should be about $650-660 WITH tax. Not a penny more... If you need my dealer, please post again and I will tell you who and where he is....
  • lazamdlazamd Member Posts: 4
Thanks for your speedy response! It will be highly appreciated if you can send me the dealer info and salesperson name so that I can get a quote from them. Thanks!

    What caddy were you driving?

I had an '01 DeVille, 35K miles when I traded it in. Had one minor electrical problem in year two but otherwise the car was very un-Detroit-like ... trouble free. There was no reason to jettison it other than boredom ... and finding a car with the sex appeal to get me excited again. This M-car did the trick, but I must confess it was the bells and whistles (tech/aero/sport-journey) that got me to open my wallet.

    Latest tank showing 17.4.

And as posted here earlier, I'm going in for an oil change this week now that I've passed the 1500 mile market ... just to be on the safe side. I recall years ago the "break in oil" was supposed to be changed out at 1K ... and I do take care of my cars. And I have the service done by the dealership --- and here's a scary but true incident that just occured to one of my associates. He has a Porsche Boxter, 48K miles and 4 months out of warranty. The engine BLEW ... a $13K replacement, but having had ALL of his service done by Porsche they gave him a brand new engine for the cost of the tow job. On a lesser scale my Caddy dealer covered a multitude of wear and tear items for eight full months after my warranty had expired because they had done ALL of its service. Total cost to me would have been ~ $3K. These were things I didn't even notice ... but the guy who does tthe weekly bathing of our cars drove it and identified some suspension and engine performance issues that never caught my attention.

I just had my first full day on the rtoad with the car. I see what you mean about the ride as compared to a caddy. I guess the 45 series tiers are designed to give the feeling of control and road feel. And they do. Ride is by no means uncomfortable, but its been 11 years in Volvo's and Saabs since I had a car that was sporty. Has an 1988 M3 BMW and it rode similar. The M35 Blows it away with the bells and whistles, plus I can take 3 friend with me without an issue.

I hope you enjoy yours as much as i enjoy mine.

With 4100 miles on my M35, my drive from San Antonio to Fort Worth this weekend (267miles) registered 27 mpg! This was at a constant 70/75 mph with 2 pit stops.

Great car & the electronics are superb.
  • lazamdlazamd Member Posts: 4
The mechanical key as far as I know can be used to lock and unlock the door, as well as locking and unlocking the glovebox and trunk pass thru. The presence of the fob, that contains the mechanical key, when on your person i.e in your pocket is sufficient to press a sensor button on the door handle and lock and unlock just the driver's door, or all doors depending on how many time you hit the sensor (1 time to unlock only driver's door, and twice to unlock all doors.) Also the fob can be used routinely by pressing the appropriate buttons on the fob itself.

Im curious about who has the most miles on their new M car. Mine has 5350 miles on it today, and I enjoy it more than ever. I just cant stay out of it. Mine is an M45 Black with Stone interior with aluminum with Tech, Nav and DES,

Im sure there must be someone who posts on this board who can top that mileage. By the way, I am averaging just over 19mpg with roughly 40% city and 60% highway miles
  • brodie77brodie77 Member Posts: 17
Took delivery of my M45 Lux tech 4/6. Have 6800 miles. I expect to pull away from this pack as I do 30k to 35k/yr. I'm getting 19 MPG. About ready to get new tires. Avons? Will keep the Goodyears to turn in at end of lease. 24 mos. 30,000 per. Had amp replaced @ 36 hrs. Since then, perfection. You gotta love this car. Best thing I have driven inc. BMW, Porsche, Lexus, Cad, Nissan Z, Saab and many more. :shades:

John, glad you like your M45. I'm curious if you are getting new Avons to improve your ride like I am doing. Mine will be on by Thursday. I will report back after a week or so. I also do about 30,000 a year so I will be pushing you but won't pass you. I only have a 1000 miles on now and love it. Tire Rack was quite impressed with the Avons so I am looking forward to giving them a try. Have a great ride. Hawkeye

Yes, the key fob contains the lock, unlock feature as well as an emergency allert that will flash the lights and honk the horn (kind of like a panic button)

"hey rich, i want the exact same car as you, from colors to options. Can u email me or tell me the dealer where u went. I live in NY. thanks"

    diesel3,
it's gonna be tough to email you so long as your email address is private ;)

I cross shopped 4 dealers, Atlantic in Lynbrook, Competition in Smithtown, Great Neck (Manhasset?) Infiniti, and Infiniti of Massapequa.

It came down to Competition and Atlantic. Don't bother going to Manhasset or Massapequa, they are smaller and much much less willing to deal, AND they wind up getting most of their cars from Competition anyway (it's the largest by far.)

The car I wanted, M35x, blk/blk, journey, tech, splsh, spoiler, was at Competition, so I was literally cross shopping Atlantic vs. Competition over the same exact car. When it came down to the wire, even though Atlantic is much closer to my home, they were just not willing to even MATCH, much less beat, the numbers, that Competition had on the table ($47,849 as described above.)

This, coupled with Competition's excellent reputation for service (and Atlantic's not-so-swell service rep), as well as the fact that if I did buy from Atlantic, the car that I wanted (at Competition) would have to be driven some 35/40 miles from Smithtown to Lynbrook, made Competition the easy choice. I had a great salesman at Atlantic, but the management was unwilling to budge; guess they thought I was bluffing as to what Competition had promised. WRONG-O! Atlantic called me last week (while I was driving) to ask me if I was still interested in an M35x, and I told them that I was happy with the one I was currently (literally) driving, but that perhaps in a couple years I'd be in the market again. :P

These forums don't permit me to post salesmen's names, so if you make your email public in your profile, I'd be more than happy to discuss the transaction in greater detail.

PS - 13.8mpg driving like a madman. It an ugly figure, so I try not to look at the 'Info' or 'Status' pages too often.

Did you forget you were on the interstate? Or have the Texas cops gotten sticky in recent times? Limit's 75 here in AZ ... and they tolerage 85 without batting an eyelash. It's 400 miles from my door to the pier in San Diego ... 5 1/2 hours with a pit stop, and the first 30 minutes are wasted GETTING to the interstate.

I'd love to hear the answer to who in the Bay Area is quoting $1000 over invoice as well... Have been shopping around the Bay Area for a few months now and have not yet found anyone willing to deal to any significant degree at all.

Actually this was in Sunday traffic and we were enjoying the casual drive. Only got a laser hit once but my Valentine 1 caught it in time. Limit is 70 on the open stretches but too many weekend warriors on the road for much more than that.

I just got off the phone with my dealer am I am getting a M35x Black on Bourbon ( which my dealer says is a very hard car to get because of the color combo,) with Premium Package, floor mats, trunk mats, wheel locks, and security etching. The lowest I could go with him is $690 p/month including tax with 10k miles, $0 down and only acquisition fees (1st month, doc fees, NJ tire tax, etc..) I am very happy with my decision!

You've done OK. Nothing down translates into an equivalent deal to mine that had $2,500 out the door and $608/month. I've seen a couple here that did a bit better, but a few bucks here or there at this price range ($50K) is immaterial.

It was Infiniti of Marin. I did it all through email and the phone. I contacted them first via email through the Infiniti web site. The deal is $1000 over cost plus sales tax and license. They required a $1000 deposit which is called a "handling fee" and is non-refundable but applies to the cost of the car at the time of purchase. I'm expecting the car some time in July.

I have an M45 Sport with Journey and Tech and the DVD seems to be acting strangely. When I get in the car, I put in a DVD audio disc to listen to and it plays OK. But, when I come back to the car later, it always ejects the disc and then I have to re-insert it and try to remember where I left off! This is pretty annoying and I could not find anything in the owner's manual to address this issue. Today, when I got into the car after work, it ejected it a couple of times before it finally accepted it. Any ideas?
    :confuse:
  • pete_l_ppete_l_p Member Posts: 322
Just a wild guess: I wonder if you've ever set the AUX input setting to use AUX input rather than the DVD disc itself. If so, perhaps it keeps that setting as a default when you start the car.

If that's the case, you might try explicitly turning the setting off BEFORE putting in a DVD disc. The system might interpret that as a change to the default setting.

I bought a 3rd Intelli Key so the valet at my office building can keep one, rather than me giving mine over every day. My dealer has been unable to program more than 2 keys. Has anyone had any success getting this done? Does anyone know if it's possible? Thanks for any help on this issue.

No Idea if more than 2 key fobs can be programed? Currently, I only have 1 fob. Durring delivery of my car one was misplaced by the dealer and I am awaiting my 2nd. Did the dealer tell you why a 3rd could not be programmed?

If the technology is RF as I believe it is, and similar to that of other remote RF keys Nissan offers, the dealer should have no problem learning a 3rd transmitter into the system. They most likely will need all three keys present to do so.

I just returned an M35X that I had on an overnight test drive. Very Nice Car.

One thing that bugged me a bit though was the engine noise on the highway. I know that it is only a five speed, but at around 70 MPH the car was doing about 3000 RPMs. Does that sound right? I talked to the salesman this morning, and he said that when he drove one (not the same car), it was around 2400 RPMs at the same speed.

I think if they had a six speed with auto lock doors and rain sensing wipers, it would be the perfect car. Now it's just near-perfect. ;)

The Infiniti website still does not show it as fully compatible. Someone did post that he got one ~ a month ago and said it seemed to work but not fully. I'm waiting for the green light myself. Blackberry works, but it's not functionally the same and would be a useless gadget for my purposes. :shades:

Anyone try the LG PM-325 phone yet? Is it fully functional? I know that Infiniti has it on the list, but other members have apparently had issues bluetooth phones offered by Sprint. I posted about a month ago about being able to use the Treo 650 with my Infiniti M35x. My salesman helped me get the phone initialized as described in the nav manual. While I don't have full functionality with the car (voice commands and address book in the car don't work) I find for a "non compliant" phone it works very. I have never had a problem calling out or receiving a call. The option on the nav display to take the call thru the car sound system or on the Treo works. The mute and end call functions work as well. Since the address book on the Treo far exceeds that in the car ( I have aprox 700 contacts on my Treo) and is very easy to look up a name and initiate a call, I don't find the missing functions a big issue at this time. While I hope for full compatibility in the future thru a firmware update, I must say that I have been pleasantly surprised at how well my Treo 650 has worked to date with the M35x.
