I had all 3 keys. In fact when they programmed the 3rd it disabled the 1st so I now have original #2 and additional #3, and original #1 is disabled. I was told the 1st customer they tried disabled the whole computer and the car was stuck at the dealer for 2 weeks. Don't know what happened with that one. Glad it wasn't me. :shades: Has anyone been able to get this done?
OK now that story takes the cake for wacky dealer foul ups. I'd lean toward programmer (dealer) error in your case on why key #1 lost the code. The programming may have to be done in sequence or a specified time period.
The above post states "you" can program up to four keys. Interject "dealer", it's not a learned in function that's programmable by the owner, but a service reprogram.
I couldn't agree more with your assessment! I think that salesman is crazy or he was driving down hill. I have over l500 miles on my M35x and I also show 3000 Rpms at about 70. I hope that in 2 years when my lease is up they have addressed those issues you mentioned and I will be happy to lease another M35x. Otherwise I will look around to see who has incorporated those features, if anyone. If anyone else has 2400 Rpms please let me know so I can take my care in for a look see. Thanks for a great board. Hawkeye
Anyone knows if Daytime Running Light (DRL) is available on the M45? I couldn't find any reference to it and the sales rep didn't know what DRL was. Since it's proven to reduce the odd of a front collision, I'd like very much to enable it. Any tip would be appreciated. Thanks
I don't have M's. However my 96 Maxima, 02 QX4 show about 2400 RPM at 70 MPH on freeway. Cruise control were turned on. I do not understand why my 4-speeds are of lower RPM than the M's 5-speed. Is the purpose of more gears to increase gas efficiency and reduce mechanical noise?
I have an M45 sport, my previous car was a Q45. The M is not as quiet as the Q, I noticed that during the two month period where I had both cars and drove them back to back. But after 3 months with the M and with cold tire pressure of 33psi, the sound level in the car at all speeds is not an issue. The engine is higher reved than my Q but the M feels everybit the luxury car when driven tame, and feels more like a sports car than many I have owned when driven fast and hard.
Those higher revs are whats keeping me from pulling the trigger on the M35X. I am really (_really_) sensitive to sound, and I'm worried that I'm going to drop $50K on a car that end up annoying me on the highway.
Around town it is fine - I actually like the sound of the engine when taking off - but when I'm on the highway I want things to be quiet. If I don't accelerate, everything is fine, but through many test drives with the M I've found out that my driving style is to frequently change speeds ever so slightly. Who knew. I'm driving a 1996 Ford Bronco now, and I guess those minor changes in speed don't register with my ears. With the M, they are hard to miss. Oh well... there's always cruise control.
Love the M, though - man what a nice car! Everything else on it is perfect. Infiniti really did a nice job with this one.... now give me a six speed!
I always like minimum noise of any kind. Some Nissan/Infiniti cars do have a loud tone when taking off, such as FX, Titan, not sure if they are designed for increasing low RPM torque or for ear satisfaction only. That's the thing I do not like. What I like the least is that some car is modified with a huge size of muffler and it sounds crazily loud, but does not have higher power as one thinks from its sound.
Toyota/Lexus is opposite. They are so quiet and most have enough power.
There is a difference in sound the 45 and 35 engines makes of course. The 45 sounds is more throaty and deep, where the 35 is a high pitched sound to me. I have a G35 coupe that makes that sound. A neighbor has the FX35 and I can hear it when it starts up even in my house, her garage is directly behind my house.
So there may be differences in views in the noise issue based upon the engine.
I should also mention, my wife claims I am hard of hearing when she talks, so the difference maybe how I hear. Too many years working in a refinery and hearing safety valves pop off at a high frequency or rotating equipment sounds.
Shorter gearing resulting in higher RPM needed to make a car more responsive. M is a pretty heavy car. Even M35 is around 3,900 pounds. Even such a good V6 as Nissan's VQ has to work hard to move such the M. It also looks like Infiniti intentionaly use somewhat short gearing to have equal/better acceleration that Germans.
First, regarding your question #4) I have an M35 Sport with Tech & Entertainment and I'm so glad it doesn't have that autolock feature. My wife's BMW has that and it drives everyone crazy (family and guests) when the car stops and you have pull the handle twice to get it. I just think it's an unnecessary feature. If it could be turned on or off, then it would be OK for me. I tease my wife that the Germans must be falling out of their cars.
To your other questions, 1) If you push the button on the door twice, it unlocks all doors. 2) As far as I know it does not lock itself. What I really love it that it doesn't seem possible to lock the fob inside by accident. I took had the fob/key in the cupholder, got out, tried to lock the door and it wouldn't. Nice. 3) You can leave the car running and walk away. I believe it will run until turned off. I had this happen at a car wash when I forgot to leave the fob in the car.
BTW, I've had this car since March and it's a total gas. A great balance between sport and comfort. My sport model seems to stick to the ground. The 19" rims/tires look great and ride great. There is so much technology in this car that I'm still having fun trying more options. Many things can be done multiple ways. The sound system is like headphones. I love listening to music in my car. At the of my long days, I really look forward to the drive home. It's just too short.
I'm currently playing the waiting game, but still desperately looking to buy a Sprint phone that is fully compatible with my M35.
According to Infiniti, Sprint has no Bluetooth compatible phone ... at least as of a month ago. Direct question from me; direct answer from them. :shades:
I must say that I have been pleasantly surprised at how well my Treo 650 has worked to date with the M35x.
Great news ... that's all the compatibility I want/need. My desires is merely to receive and make phone calls with my phone ... simple as it was with my OnStar in the Caddy. Who's your carrier? I'm a low tech kinda guy and keeping it simple yet functional is all I ask. Now I need to work some kind of swap deal with Verizon because I had to leave Sprint (nothing compatible there at the time).
My phone provider is Sprint here in New England. I went with them 3 years ago when I got my first Treo, the 300. They were the only company that offered an unlimited data plan for $10/month. I also had the Treo 600 but the 650 is by far the best PDA phone on the market. Great display, removeable battery, bluetooth, fast email transfer speed, etc. It just got another award in the current issue of PC Magazine. Palm would be making a major marketing blunder if they don't make the Treo 650 fully compliant with leading cars like the M series from Infiniti.
To be completely honest, noise is really the only thing that bothers me about my M35x. The engine noise, such as it is, is fine. I like hearing the engine respond to acceleration. At cruising speed, the engine noise is just fine, even though the RPMs seem a bit higher than they should be. My problem is with the road/tire noise at highway cruising speeds. My previous car was a BMW X5 and it was whisper-silent at all speeds and on all surfaces. I have found the M to be a tough adjustment in that regard, particularly while I'm trying to have a hands-free conversation with someone via my bluetooth phone. For ther record, my Goodyear all-season 18s are at 33 psi cold.
I love the car but Nissan could've taken some adidtional sound dampening measures to make it near-perfect. A better wiper-washer system (with rain-sensing wipers), as well as a more powerful climate control system and better heated-cooled seats would have made this vehicle perfect (again, my frame of reference for these comments is my last car, the X5). As long as I'm being nitpicky, an audible reverse warning sensor would compliment the rear-view camera nicely as well. It is fun to drive, the tech features are phenomenal and practical (I use my handsfree phone hookup constantly), and it looks like a million bucks--I get comments every day, all over the place, from all kinds of people.
My X5 was great but this car excites me--I can't say that about the X.
Nextel and Sprint may finally tie the knot in the next 45 days or so. There are several bluetooth Nextel phones -- of course, who knows what the new combined company will look like.
I went with a Moto V505 for the Infiniti M -- but my phone carrier is Cincinnati Bell.
I have no issues to speak of with Sprint and until recently I was a Verizon and Nextel user. I stopped Nextel since my Moto i2000 stopped working in most of the European cities I travel to; the Moto V505 supposedly works in NA and Europe and is bluetooth compatible.
If you are in contract with Sprint, the wedding to Nextel may broaden your choices and overall, I would expect the "pipe" to get bigger too.
I agree with you on the auto-locking feature. It's an inconvenience if you do a lot of point to point driving. I have a Town and Country that has the feature but the manual tells how to turn it off. Are you sure that it can't be disabled in the BMW?
After seeing her pout for over a month I relented in letting my better half drive the car to work for the first time. I had put her off for so many days and justified bypassing the valet parking by explaining that the keyless ignition is just too complicated for her to use without training. So after a Sunday afternoon of training - off she went.
She called Monday afternoon explaining that she had to open the car with the key (the fob was not working) and that the car "wasn't doing anything" and would not start. I had read the owners manual and couldn't remember a remedy for this.
Upon investigation, I found that the seats were still in the driving position and that the car was completely dead (even the clock had stopped two hours earlier). I asked her if anything "unusual" had occurred when she parked the car and she explained that the moon roof was open and that she had gone back in to close it. She had pushed the button once to get it into the "ACC" mode (to close the moon roof) and once more to exit the car. This apparently had left the car in "On" mode all day.
It was my fault (of course) for not covering this scenario in the Sunday afternoon training session...
Several people have said that the only significant source of noise in the M are the tires. Here's a post from someone who's changed tires on his M and claims to be thrilled with with the change in noise and road feel. I'd love to hear from anyone else who can corroborate his experience.
Law dawg, you don't have to spend that much for the highest rated tire for the M35 by Tire Rack. I'm having 4 Avons put on right now and the cost was $144 per tire. I will store my OE tires and put them on close to when I turn the car in. I will report back to you when I have a chance to evaluate them myself. Hawkeye
A few pages back I posted that my black M45 had swirls on it as well as 135 miles. Remember? I wanted one with a mint finish and minimal mileage.
They asked what I wanted. I told them: Liquid Platinum w/Stone interior. They didn't have it on their lot, so they tracked one down for me!
I now am the proud and super happy owner of this gorgeous vehicle! It was delivered with 26 miles on it. 10 of which was the distance to get the car from the other dealership to mine. Only blemish is a BB sized hole throught the paint at the top of the drivers side door sill. Cannot imagine how that got there. Fortunately you cannot see it with the door closed. Not sure what can be done about it. It appears to have rusted where exposed.
In any event.....I am one happy camper. The color combination is awesome! :shades:
After what they did for me, I've no doubt the dealer will rectify the paint/rust issue straight away.
Not at all unbelievable. I had a Q45 ... stunningly good service, although seldom needed. From what friends tell me (as well as my personal experience w/ my wife's Lexus) Infiniti/Lexus/Acura all get great service. It's a Japanese thing. When high end car owners complain about service it tends to be MB and BMW! That's a Teutonic thing. That's certainly the way it is here in AZ.
With any sports oriented suspension, the tires are the most critical factor in over the road noise. The Goodyear's that came on my M35 are extremely loud over most road surfaces. Can't wait to swap them out.
My M45 came with bridgestone tires, I wonder if they are quieter than the Goodyear experience you had? Any others with the same tire as mine had and have you experienced a noise issue after proper tire pressure achieved?
Ordering an M45 Sport tomorrow morning. DG with Stone interior, Tech, Journey, Spoiler, Mud Flaps, but in a quandry about Aluminum or Rosewood. I haven't been able to see the Stone with the Rosewood. I really do like the Rosewood, since it doesn't have that plastic look like my Audi and other cars I have owned. Does anybody have the Stone and Rosewood with some pictures to share, or comments if you have actually seen the combination together? Thanks....
I am going to get a M35x next month, blk/blk tech, journey, spoiler and mudflaps and was wondering if i should just get the aero kit. i am 27, looking to sport it out. only thing is i live in NY and was wondering when it snows how much clearance would i get with the kit on. Any comments on how it looks and how effective it is, will be much appreciated. Thanks
Every couple of days when I'm leaving my vehicle my size 9 shoe occasionally kicks the lower door panel (right behind the speaker). I know I should be more careful but this also happens with some of my passngers as well - although some of them share my DNA which could explain their foot control.
The panel is black plastic meaning these scuff marks really show up. Because it is inevitable that this plastic will be kicked again, I'm contemplating some sort of protection system. Maybe I could spray on something or apply a thin piece of black rubber to the affected areas.
Any of the knowledgeable forum posters have some great ideas?
I have a new M35x that I just picked up yesterday. I parked it in my garage and left it unlocked, however, at some point the doors locked on their own. Is this normal? Has anyone else ever experienced this?
Well, don't know in the case of the M, but w/ my girlfriends car, if you unlock the doors but don't open a door within 30 seconds, they will automatically relock.
Is it normal that I need to hold in the push start for about two seconds before it begins to crank (during those two seconds, the steering wheel adjusts and maybe some ofher action also begins)? I just want to make sure I'm not doing anything wrong.
I sit in the car, press the brake pedal, push and release the start button: electrical systems come up, steering adjusts, then engine starts. It takes about 2 sec from push to engine started. But I don't need to push and hold 2 sec.
Not sure where in NY you are, but Ramsey Infiniti on Rt 17 in NJ had a blk/blk M35 with the aero kit on the showroom floor two weeks ago. I don't know if it's still there, but you might want to give them a call and take a look at it. The car looked awesome. I currently have a black I30t with the aero kit and before that I had a black 91 Maxima SE with the spoiler. I told myself that when I finally buy the M35X it would not be black and would not have a spoiler, because it was time for a change. After seeing that car in Ramsey, I decided that I would now be purchasing my third black car with aero package.
Now that the M35 and M45 have been out for several months, I am curious what sort of deals folks are getting. How much in excess of dealer's invoice are people paying. We should keep a log so that we can see the trend in prices, thanks
I have had the car (M35x White/Graphite, Journey, NAV, Splash) for about a week and am very happy with my choice. I still need to figure out (and read the manual) how everything works.
Does anyone know how to set the digital clock in the upper right corner of the screen? All I can do is get it 1 hour plus or minus? It seems to be set for West Coast time and I am in NY. I find it more convenient to glance that clock than the analog while driving as it is kind of low on the dash.
Also,if I start the car and do not press the OK button (center mouse button) the screen defaults to the A/C setting and radio.(Call this screen 1)
If I do hit the OK button when I start the car I get the MAP of trhe area. Once I have the Map up I cannot get the Screen one to display. Is it possible or not?
My old infinity NAV showed the gas stations on the main screen as little gas pumps along the road. I am in slaes and travel alot so I found this helpful when not in familiar surroundings. My new NAV system does not show this detail. Is this a setting or just an omitted feature?
I know this board is not a sub for reading the manual but any help is appreciated.

2,700 RPM at 70 MPH
3,000 RPM at 80 MPH
Did you want the RPM for higher MPH's : )
If you want to go above 80, don't look to me to be your enabler.
