Want to check on two offers I got today- make sure that I am not missing anything- EX-L in Northern VA
1. Net Cap Cost - 33,466.56, MF .00041, residual .56, 36/12 Taxes tags $2773(seems high). Payment $379
2. Sale Price $31,394.00,Processing $599.00, VA Taxes $1,389.48,Acquisition Fee $595.00, VA Tags $103.50(2 years) Total Cap Cost before any down payment: $34,080.98 Money factor .00041 With paying the taxes, tags, and first payment up front your total out of pocket expense would be $1,847.00
With 35 remaining payments at $352
Both cars are identical. Am I missing anything in either offer?
Need to know the MSRP on both vehicles.
.00041 and 56% for EX-L 36/12.
VA assesses sales tax of around 4% against the entire selling price - can be paid up front or added to the cap cost.
MSRP on both was $36,508.
When you say entire selling price which fees does that include? acquisition and processing, but not taxes right?

Yes, including fees but not taxes.
For deal 1, I get $384/mo, so I'll assume the "net cap cost" includes the taxes
For deal 2, I get $401/mo using the "total cap cost" number. If I back out the taxes and tags, the payment drops to $359/mo.
Then, take this into the dealer and get them to provide the numbers that you can plug in and match up the payment. If they don't want to be transparent, it may be time to find another dealer.
I suggest you ask any dealer you are soliciting to provide you with, in writing, a breakdown of their offer so you may confirm the math, and know what to expect to pay "out the door" if you finalized a lease with them. Their breakdown should list:
MSRP of the Vehicle in Question Cap Cost (Selling Price of the Vehicle) Miles Allowed per year Term of the Lease Residual Money Factor A list of all fees you are expected to pay (e.g., Bank Acquisition fee, Dealer Fees, Taxes, Tags and Title Costs, etc.)
The breakdown should conclude with the monthly lease payment amount, and what you would be expected to pay out of pocket upon signing.
In my experience, you will only get to the best price in your area by having multiple dealerships compete for your business. So, I recommend soliciting multiple dealerships by asking each to give you the breakdown I suggest above. They may do so verbally first (by phone), but do ask for a confirming email/fax before you go to the dealership to avoid a bait and switch.

Hi, I received the following from a dealer in NJ. Using a lease calculator, I came up with the numbers at the bottom: 2016 Honda Odyssey EX-L with RES
Selling Price $31,675
NJ TAX 7% $2,217.25 (this is on the entire sales price, I used depreciation amt. for NJ).
Destination $900
Plates (estimate) $401
Documentation $379
Tire Tax $7.05
Online Registration $8.05
Final Price $35,587.80
3yr/12k per year lease: Monthly payments: $337.93 Including tax Due at Signing (Doc, license, etc. fees) $1137.93 Obviously this can be rolled into the payment.

Does this look correct?
What is the MSRP?
NJ taxes the sum of the calculated payments - can be paid up front or added into the cap cost.
$37,650: MRSP $31,675: Cap Cost (excludes destination) 36/12K: 54% residual, .00041 MF Lease Payment: $336.43/month or $359.98/month including taxes
You could customize what gets rolled in, but at the $360/month you would still need to pay your fees including destination, docs, dmv, etc which comes out to $1695.10 according to your numbers above.
I would also ask about that $595 acquisition fee so you don't get hit with it later.
I think you should check your calculator.. with the other fees rolled in you'd be paying much more.
The dealership just gave me a quote of $383.99 a month with all fees included. 3 yr/12k per. My wife is going to test drive the car tonight.
We're deciding between the usual suspects, Odyssey EX-L w/ RES, Sienna XLE Premium, Chryslers T&C Limited and Pacifica Touring L Plus (new). We have a T&C now and have owned two Odysseys before.

We held off on the Odyssey as my wife is still torn on which car she wants between the three. The features inside the T&C are hard to ignore even though it's a less refined drive. We should make a decision this week. The dealer was/is Autosport Honda in Bridgeport, NJ
I'm ready to kick off the quote process for a lease on a 2016 Honda Odyssey EX-L with RES. What's the best way to request a quote? Outline the terms I need? What fees are negotiable? TIA.

Negotiate your selling price just like you would for a purchase.
Here are some good articles to get you started with leasing:
Thank you! I read this article and a few others to prep myself. Also looked back in this forum. Have the numbers changed in the last week? If memory serves, I believe dealers have separate lease and purchase departments...should I act like I'm buying and then tell them I want to lease when we agree on the sales price?

Current lease numbers from Honda expire today, 5/2/16. New numbers should be available in a day or two.
I would be up front with your desire to lease, and work to negotiate your best price.
Thank you. Can you help me evaluate this offer on a lease for a 2016 Honda Odyssey EX-L with RES? I think the sales price is good based on what I have seen in previous posts for Northern Virginia, but not sure about the fees.
Sales Price: $31,900 Length of lease: 36 months Mileage per year: 12k Money Factor: .00041 Residual: 54% or $17226 Dealer fee: $585 Two years registration and hard tags: $113.50, Taxes: $1459 Freight charge: $900 Monthly payment with all fees paid up front: $348
What are the chances I can get rid of the dealer fee and/or freight charge?

Is $31,900 the MSRP or the sales price?
You need both numbers to calculate a lease.
Also, no one pays freight or destination as a separate charge, especially on a lease. If they are breaking out the destination, that's just a ruse to make the price seem less.
Also, residual is a percentage of MSRP, not selling price.
Just joined Edmunds so I am new to this forum and lease program. Please excuse any of my lack of understanding.
Just last night (May 2), I helped a friend lease a 2016 Odyssey EX and this is what I was able to get for him.
2016 Odyssey EX - MSRP $32,550 plus $900 destination charge Ardmore, PA - 6% sales tax 36 month lease - 12k miles a year $300 per month - $0 down First payment included All season floor mat included - $205
Value of trade-in - $3,000 was their initial offer, but they had to add $500 or so to meet our demand of $300 per month. My friend was pleased with $3,000 to begin with. I don't remember exactly, but the residual value is somewhere between $18,500 and $19,000.

Looks like a good deal. PA lease taxes are +3%, so 9% overall.
