Yes, it has a double-rubber seal that runs completely around the top.
All the support is in the railing accept for one bolt on each plate where the locks slide into. (I haven't checked to see how far they went into the composite/bed but I assume it's all the way through.)
In Canada we have been getting the brushed 17" wheels on the TRD Double-Cabs, and like you, I'll never figure out why they would ship a TRD offroad trucks without All-Terrain tires? While all the x-tra cab TRD's seem to have them.
Mine came with black wall Bridgesone Dueller H/T . Which were no better than granpa's slippers this winter...
You can't beat {bling-bling} shiny rims. The set of 20" I have my eye on "look slicker than snot on a roosters lip"!
Wishing you all the very best with your new truck, you won't be disappointed.
The manual has a misprint apparently, no beep expected, unless you paid for the extra security system. I think that's crap, but that's the story.
what does a limited slip give you versus the locker. I thought the fact that a locker won't slip makes it a better choice?
any paint issues, heard a few issues on that too.
Like the Tacoma over Frontier, but Tacoma seems to have more issues on the net.

1. Skid plate rubs the bumper at speeds over 75mph. I bent it down a bit. Fixed the problem except with a strong head wind
2. drivers side leaf spring squeaks like crazy with less than 8,00 miles on it.
3. Whats everyone opinion on using 10W30 instead of 5W30. the dealership put 10W30 in it. Everyone I've talked to says its fine but?
but other that this the truck is great!
P.S> where do you find where the truck was made at?
If the dealer put 10W in mine, I'd have them replace it.
It might be okay, but something as minor as that, might not show up until 100K miles or more...
If so, have you noticed any gains in MPG?
@{The reason I ask is that the gas prices in Eastern Canada is on the way up again. We are currently paying a little over $1.00 per liter for supreme, and they are talking about $1.10 by summer. Note your US gallon has about 3.785 liters i.e. we would be paying $3.78 canadian$ @ US gallon...
Just to clarify, in case someone hasn't been following the discussion, he isn't talking about a Tacoma owned by a Mexican, but rather, a Tacoma that is made in the new Mexico Toyota plant.
[Oil]
Yep, full synthetic. I haven't changed the oil in my truck yet, so I wouldn't know about MPG increases. My guess is that it probably wouldn't be noticeable though.
I used 10W30 Mobil 1 in my Honda Prelude since it had about 100K miles on it. When I traded it in on the new Tacoma, it had 195K miles on it (with the oil changed at every 5-6K miles). The engine still ran perfect, with no leaks at all. The only thing that I did notice, was that under heavy acceleration, it did burn a little oil, but not so much as to be a concern. I'm not sure an engine that old and with that many miles could be free from burning at least some oil. I've seen cars less than 3 years old pouring out smoke from the tail pipe though!
I plan on keeping with the 5K mile oil change plan with this truck (already started it with my wife's Acura TSX). Once I find a place that carries the PureOne oil filters, I plan on picking some of those up.
Now with the locker you have an open diff (one wheel power) unitl you push the locker button, use, then you shut off. Per the manual, only use up to 5 mph. My buddy goes faster than that locked but its use is generally for serious off roading or want to bust up a road with 3 ft of snow. There is no question it will provide ultimate traction when used, but you have to choose when you want it locked.
Hope that helps, and heck you may not care about the rear axle in back if you dont really off road or live in deep snow country. Honestly both TRD Sport and Off road are great trucks at similar prices. good luck

You have to decide between performance or protection. Basically, you get a little more performance from the K&N because you aren't restricting airflow like the paper filter does, but you are also introducing more contaminants into your engine by using one.
You can search on K&N's web site. They don't list one for the 4 banger.

I took a peek at the firewall in my taco and found the hole you show on your pic. I didn't realize that it was a grommet because it was solid with a pull thingy in the middle. Looked at the driver side and found the other one also but it is tough to access as it is behind the master cylinder assembly. One other question, how difficult was it for you to access the firewall hole on the passenger side from under the dash? Are the heater ducts in the way? I didn't look cuz I am lazy today.
BTW, nice set of wheels you have there and good start to your homepage too!
Thanks,

Are FRAM oil filters pretty good?
I thought about using that Lucas oil stabilizer in my 05 TACO as well, but have never tried it.
Yes I forgot to mention that it is covered by like a little rubber plug. I took my drill and drilled through after taking the plug off. Took all of 2 seconds, in fact you could probably just puncture through with a screwdriver. The one on the driver's side is a little hard to get to as you mentioned, that's why I used the passenger one. It is very easy to access the wire once you feed it through. No need to remove anything and nothing in the way, just feed it through a ways and then you will be able to see it hanging from the inside (underneath the glove box area). Just keep feeding until you can see it, grad it and pull, simple as that.
Good luck!
I hear FRAM filters suck, but yet I also know people who have used them for years...
There is somewhere on that site that talks about different oil filters, and from what I remember, the Fram's aren't very good.
I just picked up 3 PureONE filters for my Taco, and 2 for the wife's TSX at Pepboys tonight. They were only $5.99, cheaper than some of the other brands out there... The Mobil 1 filters were around $12, and are also supposed to be a good filter, but have less surface area of the filter element than the PureONE's.
Use synthetic oil if you don't want sludge. If you go with a 5000 mile service interval, instead of the ridiculous 3000 mile interval, you will be paying just about the same amount of money, only getting synthetic, and helping the environment at the same time.

I have a DC Prerunner. Thanks for your input.
