I've seen a few '16 Pilots on the lots, but I have yet to see one in the wild. I think the price is scaring a few people.

Well, sticker shock on anything is easy these days! Not sure it is even any more expensive than the old one, but I didn't check.

the one we sat in at the dealer was an EX I think, so relatively low line (but not stripped). Still had a sticker of IIRC 35k+, which was a lot more than I was expecting.
The Elite is $45K or thereabouts.

Our '03 Pilot EX-L stickered at $31k. It is now $38.5k. Inflation calculator tells me $31k in 2003 is $40k today, so I guess they've held the price down. Still hurts to see these prices, though. Ugh. Pretty soon I'll be sitting in a rocker telling the kids what things cost in my day.

Not only have they held the price down, they have added features such as the back up camera, bigger wheels and tires, maybe more airbags, et al.

That's probably true for all cars. In a previous wife-time, we bought a new Accord LX in 1993 for a "one only at this price" of under $14,000. Today that's about $23K. You can easily get the LX for under $20K and it's a much more loaded car - new tech, new gadgets, new safety features.

I think that's right. I was a little shocked by Edmund's latest test review of a Suburban LT 4WD, $63k, about twice what we paid for the '95 we had. But with inflation, it's right on the money, plus a lot of features ours lacked.

Saw an MB AMG GT in traffic today, it's an eye catcher.

not that rare or new, but got behind a CLS550 tonight. As always, my daughter commented that is was ugly. She says it looks like a stinkbug, which is actually pretty accurate.

Awfully new looking Miata hardtop in "triple" black with temp tags. Looks like only the Grand Touring comes in black for 2015.

This evening I saw a BMW i8 on I95 north of Boston. He was stuck behind another vehicle doing about 60. As soon as that car moved over, he accelerated and was gone in a few seconds.

Saw a Kia K9 (00) today, don't know if that's one for this thread or the obscure car sightings. I see more Equus than the Kia variant. IMO the Kia is better looking.

Stopped by the MB dealer to ask a question. They had a nicely loaded diamond white 16 E400 on the lot - 73K. I think it is carryover from 15 save for new COMAND buttons - production will probably be finished by end of the year, ramping up for W213. Showroom had an S63 coupe, GLA45 with lots of options but no nav, and the usual cars.

New Pilot, Black. I assume it was a Touring model. Looked great, very expensive looking, I'd even go so far as to prefer it to the current MDX
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Nice - I've noticed a few comments saying for the money, you should just go to an MDX instead of a higher trim level Pilot.

    So... maybe not.

Don't know if its a good or bad sign, but when we went past the Manheim Auto Auction today there were two '16 Pilots sitting in the "sale" line going into the building. I couldn't believe it so I had to U-turn and drive past again to make sure. Yup, one Black, one Blue.

Any chance they're wanting to see how much over MSRP they can get for a new model? That way they won't upset their regular customers with an "ADP" sticker...
  • berriberri Member Posts: 10,165
I actually ran into a Ford dealer recently that had ADP stickers on every new model on his lot, I guess so he could exaggerate customer savings? I mean, more than a few of these models are pretty common Ford fleet or government vehicle sales, so can the dealer really expect there are those many rubes running around their sales lot willing to pay it?

I suspect there are enough out there to make it worth his while.

Black S63 coupe, white Ferrari FF (don't ask where the money comes from!) , couple of late model Maseratis, CTS-V coupe with no plates in the worplace parking garage, M235 driven by 30 something guy blasting music trying to look cool and not doing a convincing job, and not one but 2 M4s - one that obnoxious light green/gold color that means you just know the owner straddles the line between incorrigible and punchable.
  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
Spotted a 2016 Explorer. The updated front and rear are definitely evolutionary. They are more muscular than the previous nose and tail.

The M4 might just be replacing the Jaguar as the "cad's car". You heard it first here.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,108
New S550 in the parking lot, black, pretty impressive looking. But the tires must be 40-series, REAL thin looking on a car of that 'heft'.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,429
BMW has had that market for awhile now. The M4 might own it now that the M3 has been relegated to being a sedan. Jaguar is now something for more mature drivers with at least the pretense of refined taste. Infiniti and to a lesser extent Lexus (F-sport) get a little too, maybe those afraid of the maintenance. They all lease though so it doesn't matter. I suspect a majority of M4 don't have the turn signal option package.

There's been a Lexus L F-Sport on the lot I drive by every day - a bit garish for what is usually such a mellow car.

A Tesla store has opened right next to where I live. It was formerly a Lincoln Mercury dealer, bought by Herb and moved. First Tesla store (dealer) I"ve seen not inside of a mall. Maybe a service center? But, half a dozen new Teslas on site.

Exactly! Those things aren't the cheapest vehicles out there! Anyone know how much they run? My dad said if he could get a new car he would get a Tesla!
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Depends on which model you buy--what size battery pack. But if you want the longer range Model S, and some nice options, you could bust $130K easy. But I think you can buy 'em as low as around $80K.

Did they spiff up the outside? That old LM store had a very 70's look. Dedham is a good spot for a store.

According to the website, it's only a store. The service center is still in Watertown.

Hi, Rob: Still being spit and polished, but the building remains the same form. But, brighter, cleaner and more modern looking inside (so far). Looks like 8 charging stations are going up on the left side of the dealer. It's coming together pretty quickly. The "Automile" is at least an "Auto5k" now.

Amazing how common it is to see Teslas around here. There's at least one BMW i8 in my area, too. Still prefer that propulsion proposition over all battery, all the time.

Still haven't decided what to do: condo or i8! The fact that I'm cross shopping these two items shows my financial prowess and the reason I should really not be allowed to have any money... Oh, I forgot the third item: 8 years of college tuition. Yeah, there's the winner right there.

It helps ... lots of folks from different generations post here. Not all are conversant in the ways of the younger folks.

FWIW, I don't even use abbreviations when I text. Acronyms, yes, abbreviations, no.

Welcome aboard and hope to hear more from you - we need some fresh perspectives.
