    Boston, fordgirl. South Suburban, actually.

    A southy?

    Isn't that Whitey's old turf?

  • laurasdadalaurasdada Member Posts: 5,221
Not Southie, southern suburbs or south shore. My Dad did live just a couple of blocks away from Whitey in Santa Monica, though. Small world...

Not really. @laurasdada is in the south suburbs of Boston. Whitey's haunt was South Boston aka Southie. He and Catherine Greig lived in Quincy for a while but that's not really the south suburbs.

Another new style Lambo today, hard-earned I am sure. Had a Tesla parked beside me at work.

Tex be nice. The question was about why Teslas are so abundant in his area.

How about a Gold Wrapped Lamborghini Gallardo going through a auto car wash?

Bet it's the plasti-dip or advertising shrink wrap stuff that'll peel off.

Yep, all those 'sterling silver' or 'gold plated' cars that pop up on (non-car) web sites are wrapped in metallic film. Quite a disappointment for those folks that thought somebody went out and constructed a car with silver bodywork!

And it's really a Ford Escort under the shrink wrap. :D

I was less than nice to a new poster who liked abbreviations. I think we're all square now.

Hi, Rob: Still being spit and polished, but the building remains the same form. But, brighter, cleaner and more modern looking inside (so far). Looks like 8 charging stations are going up on the left side of the dealer. It's coming together pretty quickly. The "Automile" is at least an "Auto5k" now.

Amazing how common it is to see Teslas around here. There's at least one BMW i8 in my area, too. Still prefer that propulsion proposition over all battery, all the time.

Still haven't decided what to do: condo or i8! The fact that I'm cross shopping these two items shows my financial prowess and the reason I should really not be allowed to have any money... Oh, I forgot the third item: 8 years of college tuition. Yeah, there's the winner right there.

Drove by this new Tesla store today. They did spiff it up but it's not what I would expect a Tesla store to look like. Here it is in it's previous incarnation.

Now imagine the brick painted grey and absolutely no cars in the lot.

That Lambo might need an energy drink, considering how a Mitsubishi Evo beat it up on TopGear a few years back.

I've been to Legacy place a hundred times (YardHouse is the best pub outside of Boston IMO) and I was wondering how that sad little Lincoln store faired. So that's where the new Tesla store is, cool I'll need to check it out next time...

There is a Costco in the town I'm moving to. Have had a Sam's Club membership for years but rarely get there, since it's so far away.

Enjoy the hot dog / pizza / burger....

I thought OG got spun off ... or, that there was a shareholder revolt that led to some changes in the board at Darden.

They sold Red Lobster in early 2014. There was a revolt by Darden's largest shareholder - an equity firm - in which they managed to change the entire board. The equity firm presented a 294 page report highlighting ways to make Olive Garden more profitable which included cutting down on the breadsticks, the salad, and the dressing. Oy - getting into the minutia...

That's why you seldom see successful restaurants run by bankers. A recipe for failure is all they know about the business.

Yes.. I knew my local Yard House was part of the chain. Just thought maybe there was an independent up that way with the same name.

Never seen a Darden Yard House restaurant. What's there spin on the menu and theme? I find Darden chains to usually be decent moderate priced places.

It's a beer-centric restaurant... A big rectangular bar in the center (60 ft by 20 ft?) with taps all the way around.. The food seems to be consistent with TGIF, or maybe a step up. Typical prices. We've been there a couple of times and it's good.. but, always crowded, which is why we don't go more.

Obviously, a great craft beer selection on tap.

Yard House - beer: Duh, makes too much sense. So are those 1970's pubs going to be the next big thing in restaurants again?

spent last week at the beach on vacation. Jersey shore. Stone Harbor for those that are in the area, which happens to be one of the wealthiest beach towns (not that I qualify to be there of course!). Car watcher heaven. more Benzs than you know what to do with (a particularly nice e63 EMG caught my eye!). In the space of 1 hour, a convertible and coupe Jag F type. a few Bentleys and Ferraris. A garish RR convertible (the new one).

also the first XC90 I have seen in the wild too. Very sharp. and too many more to recall!

A new HRV at the grocery store. Fairly comparable in size to the original CR-V. The new one pulled into the parking space just vacated by the CR-V.

There was a review in the local paper on the HR-V and supposedly it's already cannibalizing CR-V sales.
  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
Now I've read that there has been minimal impact on CR-V sales with high end HR-V sales displacing low end CR-V sales. I'm guessing Honda makes more on a $23K HR-V EX than it does on a $25K CR-V LX.

Saw a new S63 coupe driven by a 20-ish year old looking girl/woman - I assume daddy's car. She was being very cautious and had impeccable turn signal use, which is unusual for the typical often above the law local driver of cars in that price range. Saw the new style facelifted Prius V too - I hadn't noticed how overwrought the front end is. Someone else posted this on another forum - this overstyling trend is kind of the malaise era for Japanese car styling.
  • explorerx4explorerx4 Member Posts: 20,886
CR-V starts out 4k+ higher than an HR-V, plus it's got a lot of volume, so does Honda make more on a CR-V with 2k upgrades or HR-V with 4k upgrades? I think CR-V still is more profitable.

Cool, will have to go bug the local dealer now. Didn't think they'd be on the streets for another month or three. Thanks!

(btw, it's supposed to handle "better", being based on the old Echo platform. :D )
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,599
I don't think it's an entire new model, just a facelift. I think the new one isn't out yet. Reminds me of that hydrogen (or whatever) Toyota that is upcoming, that is overstyled to the point of cringing hilarity.

Ah, k. Yeah, the design of the hydrogen one is supposed to bleed over to the V, but maybe not until 2018.

    Oh well, I can wait.

I like the economy and reliability of the Prius and would consider it if a) they had a bit better driving dynamics; and b) had a bit more upscale interior. So I'm kind of neutral on it. I have driven one and it is an interesting ride and larger inside that you would think.

Aren't you supposed to get really good fuel mileage with a prius? I'm not a fan of them cause I don't like the way they look!:-) any vehicle that gets good fuel mileage is nice! Then you don't have to pay for gas so much!:-)
