I can't belive the amount of Q56's I've been seeing in NYC. This thing has to have the smallest demographic of any vehicle out there beyond maybe the H1 hummer. It is Beyond Ugly, chroming all the most unatractive parts on the Armada (one one of the worst names ever), expensive and HUGE. Maybe people want to have an escalade but stand out a bit more, but this is NOT the way to go about it.

I don't get it... why are this and the Q45 so bizzare and limited in appeal when Infiniti seems to have really caught the market pulse with the G and M classes? I hope we are just at a weird point in their product cycle and these models haven't caught up yet. Just imagine what a Q45 with the style engineering and appeal of the M45 might do on the marketplace... the M already competes well above it's price range

Rich suburbanites like big SUVs. That doesn't really shock me. The majority of Americans like a lot of lbs for their dollar, whether it be autos or hamburgers. And yeah, the QX56 is no looker, but it isn't like an LX470, GX470, Cayenne, or whatever else are candidates for the automotive museum of beauty.

As for the Q, one of the reasons it doesn't sell well as it not really any more car than an M, but it costs more. Before the new M, other makers were providing a more car for the dollar.

Saw two Hummer H3's today in beige and red. They seem to be catching on.

Also a blue STS and several 300Cs.

...is a great name for that Nissan clone of a Nash station wagon on steroids. It's about as big as a Spanish galleon.

Funny to see Infiniti's marketing "A line has been drawn" I think the designer must have had the hiccups when he got to the C-pillar... :)

I see Renault influence...and Renault owns Nissan.

Looking at the QX56, you'd think Nash was in charge. That abomination looks like a 1957 Rambler wagon on steroids.
  • bhill2bhill2 Member Posts: 2,596
Nah, the '57 Rambler may have been kind of funky, but it was a heck of a lot better looking than the QX56.

I've been seeing many of those too. I've sat in them and while they are very roomy and comfortable, the SUV feels enormous from the driver seat and it doesnt really feel luxurious compared to an Armada. The Navigator I sat in later was much nicer.

Everyday on the highway there is this white QX56 driver who thinks he owns the roads, he passes people on the right shoulder, changes 3 lanes at a time without signals, and he uses the right and left shoulders during traffic jams. Talk about irresponsible driving by a huge SUV.

The Navi is the one to beat in the segment IMO. The Nissan 5.6 is a gem though and I would rank higher than the 5.4 for smoothness and NVH.

Interior-wise, no contest. Lincoln nailed it.

Saw a new Prius today, had some kind of logo on the door so I think it was a government vehicle.

WRX STI, brand new, post-facelift, drove past me. Ugly. The thing looks too old, you see the rear of it and it looks like somebody modded up an old 80's sedan. The new front, I have no problems with, but the overall design needs a rest.

Oh, and, pretty rare for my parts (very few Chrysler dealers) but I saw THREE PT Cruiser's on the bus this morning. The other afternoon, I saw three Suzuki Liana's (Aerio to you) on one drive. It's unsettling. Rare cars tend to cycle here.

    ...new dark gray Mercury Milan.
  • anythngbutgmanythngbutgm Member Posts: 4,277
Weel it seems the Avalon has pretty much become the official car of Massachusetts... I counted 32 of them on a 1 hour trek from my house to the south shore of the state. It is out of control ho many I saw yesterday... Wow. I did see a Lacrosse so I guess competition is pretty tight ;)

Saw a pair of 06s, just face-lifted. They also raised the suspension a tad.

I saw one of those new Mazda small van things the other day. Looks very Euro

I also saw the new Yaris on a Canadian TV commercial, and an ad for the Acura CSX, which is the Acura-badged Civic. It does look better than a normal Civic.

The small van thing is called the Mazda 5.

Yesterday I saw a black VW Phaeton and earlier today I saw a white Lexus ES300 with no moonroof and cloth seats. I knew you could order them this way but I never thought people actually did.

The other day I saw a Lincoln Zephyr for the first time, very stylish indeed. While the Fusion and Milan are far from unattractive, neither one has the Zephyr's fine looks.
It's just a guess on my part, of course, but I have a suspicion that the Zephyr will do very well for itself, providing some tough competition for the likes of Lexus, Acura etc.
  • 210delray210delray Member Posts: 4,721
Did you see the rear end of the Zephyr? IMO, it has ugly oversized taillights. Sort of like the Olds Alero had too-big rear lights.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Lincoln needs that 3.5l V6 badly. The 3.0l Duratec can't even match Honda's or even Hyundai's, never mind Acura.

What's fine for the Fusion is not for the Zephyr, and it's higher price.

Saw lots of new cars this AM:

Lexus IS - still not common around here
    Civic coupe
Commander - box on wheels, chromed up so it looked cheesy
Ranger Rover Sport - huge wheels can't possibly go off road
    A6 - large mouth bass
Tribeca - in that dark Maroon color

My first Azera seen in white heading in the opposite direction on the highway. IMO the styling is too bland, but some people might appreciate that. I sat in the Azera recently and really liked it, although white is not a good color for it. It looks too plain and boring.

Also spotted another red Hummer H3.

And then, two exoitcs. A white SL55 AMG and a greyish brown Aston Martin DB9. Both are beautiful cars.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I was behind an SL55 today.

Strange detail - the rear window isn't nearly as big as it could be. I'm not sure why, as it appears to be rigid, but the glass area is relatively small, no bigger than the one on my Miata.

I saw a new silver/grey DB9 out in the chilly rain this morning
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,335
a Zephyr out on the road with an actual (60ish YO women) owner drving. Looked nice.

    and, a 645 convertible (yes, I made sure it wsan't a Solara).

...the replacement for the XG350? I guess it's supposed to be Hyundai's version of an Avalon.

Spotted in my workplace's parking lot - new black HHR.
  • prosaprosa Member Posts: 280
    ...the replacement for the XG350?

Correct. Though it's a very safe bet that Hyundai hopes the Azera sells a lot better!
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
...is that it competes with Hyundai-Kia's own Amanti. More people prefer the rather strange looking Amanti, (looks like a Buick LeSabre with an E-Class nose with a Chrysler grille) over it.

I think for that much money I'd get a private helicopter. :P

Saw a new 530i this morning. Still not digging the hump-back.

I saw the same DB9 again this morning too, same street, same time. I think it's being used as a commuter.

Funny, living in the conspicuous consumption capital of the northwest, I see SL55s fairly frequently, several per week anyway. Just cars to some people.
  • navigator89navigator89 Member Posts: 1,080
Today I saw the new refreshed Accord - 5 times! First in silver, and then two beige and two black. The rear looks very nice now. It doesnt look similar to the Azera anymore.

And also a grey GS300, beige Toyota Avalon, black Hummer H3, and a W12 Phaeton in white.

Seen a 2 Civic Coupes with new car tags in the past 2 weeks. Seen a new TL with new car tags. Seen a G6 with new car tags and silver Galant GTS with new car tags.

2006 Civic Coupe, white. Interesting, and much bigger than before it seems. It looks like the size of an Accord Coupe of just a few generations ago. Still not digging the way the A-Pillar meets the body, but it looks lot better than the sedan. They seem to have gone for the "hybrid" look for all Civics.

the new Passat in black which I'm afraid I don't like nearly as much as the previous model. Plus they've raised it's prices up to TL, 3-Series, C-Class territory.

Also, saw a blue A3. I like it but I'm not really a fan of wagons and hatchbacks.

I was down in TN for business this week and I saw a bunch of HHRs, I hadn't seen any in New york yet. It looks better in person, the rear is a little spaceshipy. I have a feeling these looks will age FAST though and not gracefully. They better enjoy the sales while they can before it turns into a PT Crusier for them

I saw a solstice as well, I prefer the Sky, saw them both at the NY auto show

A3,it had a temporary tag in the rear window.

Okay. I'm hooked! This is the hottest looking little roadster around right now, especially for the bucks! However, from what I'm reading, the 2007 will have a turbo, six speed and a removeable hard top! I'll curb my car fever and wait for this little baby! Anyone know anything else about it? Dealers are reluctant to comment on it because they have a waiting list a mile long for the 2006 models AND they are bumping the MSRP UP 5k! These greedy bastards will kill the best thing to happen to GM in decades like this! Has anyone gotten a dealer to commit to putting you on a list for the 2007? I'm willing to put the bucks down right now!

    Thanks for a reply..

...silver Lexus GS300 and a black Nissan Maxima so new its shipping wrapping was still all over the car.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    Jetta
    GS300
    Tribeca

The Tribeca looks better in dark colors. This one was black, with the lights on and the city lights reflecting off the paint, it really looks extremely modern. Much better than a white car looks in the daylight, IMO.

saw one in the parking lot at my office. have to check it out closer when I leave. Looks OK, but the top doesn't flow. Looks more like one of those kit cars where it was an afterthought.

Also a jetta still set up for shipping (OK, I was looking at a dealer).

Odd thing, VW puts on temporary windchield wipers (with a neon green frame) for shipping. Strange. That, and the tie down hook is screwed into the front (they take of the side grills by the fog lights), and it looks heacy duty enough to tow the ship with.

I thought I was the only person who got that kit car vibe.

I like the looks more or less, but it also reminds me of a dune buggy. I expect it to have sparkly metalflake paint.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Solistice looks 1000 times better with the top down. Top up it's a mess. None of the body shapes line up.

Miata is much better sorted in that way.
