We have mandatory detailed window stickers in the US -- after removal, the dealer will give it to you unless you want it thrown away. No idea about Canada... sorry. Just ask the dealer to give you a print-out from the computer. Are you telling me you bought a car and didn't know what car included before buying it?
"Are you telling me you bought a car and didn't know what car included before buying it?"
Yup. Even the dealer didn't know. All we knew is HSE and the "main" options (i.e. it had 19" wheels, GPS etc.) But I did not know, and nor diod the dealer, whether it had auto-sensing wipers, homelink, and so on.
"We have mandatory detailed window stickers in the US -- after removal, the dealer will give it to you unless you want it thrown away"
Mmm. I should have asked, perhaps.
Anyway - another question: any idea about the service interval indicator? The manual says it exists (turn key to 1) but the car says it doesn't. And the dealer just told me services every 12000 km (that's about 7500 miles), and six of those are free.
My dealer said the same about the 7500 mile service. He emphasized that brakes were not covered, so I got the impression that it would be an issue in the future.
If it is an issue for you, I'd write the person at the highest level possible to make it right. You are taller than most, so it is understandable how it would make a difference. It wouldn't hurt them to give you seats from a car that got damaged in transport.
There's no excuse for LR making a mistake like that.
Yes, $2600 is a bit outrageous. The OEM version -- installed -- should be cheaper and it would be fully covered under the car's warranty. Yes, going elsewhere is probably the smart dollar choice.
"Nice shots. Do you think the mud flaps would help keep the vehicle cleaner?"
Well, perhaps, though it seems to me that nothing will keep away the salt and dirt that a Canadian winter throws at it - plus the mudflaps would reduce ground clearance.
In general, nothing can void your warranty unless your modification implicitly causes the problem you are trying to get warranty service on. There are, however, "instant void" clauses on most vehicles. For example, "chipping" your engine programming voids most engine warranties.
I too saw this in the manual, but it seems to be missing on my SE.
And I also agree that the dashboard lighting seems to be a little dim after turning it up full. However, I've gotten used to it and it is certainly more than adequate :-)
The Nav system also seems to work well, once you get used to it. I have seen in some other forums for vehicles with the same NAV that they have found a way to disable the speed sensor, so that they can input address while moving (of course the passenger should always do the entering). Has anyone heard of that being done on a LR3?
Thanks Michael for the great photos. That black interior is very sharp and the silver looks very sophisticated. How do you find visibility through the dark-tinted rear windows on dim winter days? And are you thinking of adding dedicated snow tires? From what I've read, the Goodyear tires are not the best for snow.
To cancel the Sat Nav while in operation touch the screen. The navigation setting button then appears. When this is pushed it then gives one the choice to cancel the route.
As for the other remark re the tinted windows and tyres:
= Tinted windows are a lot less dark than on my last car, a Mercedes ML500. No visibility problems. I would in fact like them to be darker: in the Land Rover you can peer in and see what's in the luggage area, a big no-no in my book.
= Tyres: Oddly enough I have Pirelli tyres on it, even though the car was given to me with a Goodyear warranty card. But I have always liked Pirelli's so I am good with that.
Audiovox/Movies to Go offers an all-in-one solution that sells for anywhere from $456 to $800 on the web. The model # is MMD70 with a 7" screen. Your local installer (Best Buy, Circuit City, etc) should be able to do it for you. I saw one installed at the local LR dealer. They charged $1995. I figure I can get it done for somewhere between $600 and $700, including the unit.
There are not too many other after market units that will fit because there isn't really a place to put the DVD player. If the OEM DVD player is Rosen, it makes sense because they offer several all in one solutions.
thanks for the feedback, I'm surprised that it lacks that extra seat adjustment; ALSO the old disco seat postion was higher and MUCH better for the low back.............so far i love the LR3 especially having it out yesterday in snowstorm however, after about an hour my low back and legs start aching............figures i'm a chiropractor and was too excited during the test drive to realize the problem
I am in a quandry too- I got my LR3 about a month ago and car has stalled twice and seems to have a little kick at times when I accelerate after a stop. The dealer has no clue and I am a bit insecure about driving it too far from home. I am interested to know if any new problems have arisen from your lr3 lately.
Inflection Point?? To all of you non-early adopters who are waiting for the pricing to come off the full Moroney, does this post signal the inflection point with the early romance with the LR3? To me this post contains the four elements of a classic Rover problem: its electrical, happens randomly, the dealer is not helpful and the (present) owner now doesn't trust the car. As a result, if this isn't an isolated incident, maybe the pricing trajectory will now be headed toward terra firma? Any bets that it will be say invoice plus $1500 by summer? (This is the current market price for the once red hot Porche Cayenne V6 that debuted last February.)
Not sure Porsche had all four elements or not. If not, the LR3 price should fall faster.
Even if Cayenne had all four, Porsche is still a more prestigious brand than LR with top end models selling at over $400K a car. LR3 would probably have to do better in quality to be like Cayenne.
Emols, sorry to hear about your car. I have not experienced any more problems with my LR3 since the dealer replaced the fuel pumps. Granted, I have not allowed the fuel level to dip much below 1/4 tank. I have developed a habit of refueling at the point. However, this week I plan on allowing the gauge to drop to near empty to test the new pumps. I will keep you posted.
Just curious. Was your car moving or stationary when it stalled? My car wouldn't start while parked on a decline with little less than a 1/4 tankful.
Whoooa!! Easy there blkislandguy. First of all, we don't know that this is an electrical problem. After the dealer replaced the fuel pumps in my car, the problem has not recurred. Although you may be right, I think you are a little premature in your judgement.
I'm going to be picking up my SE today. There were 2 things that I found out when I was at the dealership the other day. 1- No daytime running lights on the LR3. Anybody have any idea why there are none? 2- All the 12 v outlets are the cigarette lighter type. Why couldn't they make at least one a regular outlet?
Thanks for the response- but guess what? car didnt start today at all- so it is getting picked up today. When it stalled, I was descending from a hill and approaching a turn so I was coasting a bit until I applied brakes to turn- upon doing this it stalled- yikes!!! Anyway, we will see what land rover says!! I will keep you posted!!
Wondered if anyone had problems locating accessories from their dealer.
Mine says they are still not coming through from LR
I'm sure third party suppliers will come out with the basics sometime in the future but you would think that "mudflaps" and "side mouldings" to protect against door dings would be readily available.
Following up from an earlier conversation. I got the i-pod working using a connector from Belkin. Link below - i bought it from Best Buy, but they have them at apple stores.
It's pretty simple - the charger plugs into the dock port & has a 3.5in jack out - i used another cable to go from there to the aux input on the lr3. The sound quality is much better than using the headphone out on my i-pod.
also i can keep the i-pod in the center box (the cable fix under the lid of the box & run the little remote gadget that comes with it to change songs/pause.
p.s. 800 miles in, it's been great with only one bit of weirdness that turned out to be me. The nav is ok - voice control is a little funny, but getting used to it.
I'm not sure if you can combine the two (I don't see any reason why not) but I'll find out Wednesday morning. If you can, the 10 security deposits will save you about another $75/monthly on a 30 month lease.
I'm also trying to get my SE Thursday but so far I still can only get $2250 off sticker (about $1750 over invoice) and want to get $2750 off ($1,250 over invoice). Smithtown (I live here and need the loaners for my wife) has the vehicle with the rear air which I don't care about and won't budge....Glen Cove has the exact vehicle and since I do business with them, I should be able to wrap up the deal in the morning.
should definitely save $ putting down 10 deposits, even after subtracting return on cash. but, under what scenario could you lose your deposit (ie, theft, total)?
Security is security and has nothing to do with total loss or theft. You don't get interest but you CAN'T lose it unless you don't pay and the vehicle is repoe'd. It's not like paying the sales tax upfront (in upfront tax states) that you would lose in the event of a total loss or theft.
Does anyone have experience putting two car seats in the second row and using the third row for passengers?
I was in an Explorer this weekend and noticed that if a car seat was in the middle of the second row, you are not able to access the third row. Well, except for crawling over the seats.
Also, does the LATCH system work in the third row?
Recently purchased a fully loaded SE7 bonatti grey/black in order to take advantage of the ending of the accelerated tax depreciation. I am happy with the SUV but am still upset about the experience with the dealership. I had a deposit down on an HSE since Oct. and was just recently told that it would not be in until January after being led on for two months that the car would take delivery in December.
It took me contacting the owner of the dealership just days ago to find out the arrival date of the HSE. Within two minutes he found the "production list" and told me the SUV was not going to be in until January. I was furious as I had a deposit down since Oct. and was told on 12/4 by the salesman that my car was in port.
I had waited anxiously for three weeks for the SUV to arrive from port, delayed plans so as to be available to pick up the SUV and endured numerous stories from the salesman as to why the SUV was not released from port...all to be deliberately deceived.
After informing the owner of what I was told the past two months he took no responsibility and just said he knew nothing about it...leading me to believe his sales staff just follow his ethical lead. So anyone out there being told their HSE will be in at a certain time beware!
What baffles me is why a salesman or dealership selling luxury cars would lead a customer on when the salesman knows that his product will not meet the customer's deadline. The dealer just shoots themselves in the foot. I would of been more willing to buy a car from him if he was straight up with me and gave me some options to get into a similar car like the SE. But, it becomes a lose lose. I don't get the car I want and they don't get my business.
I don't know what happened in your case, but some dealers have been known to take a deposit and over-promise just to take the buyer out of the market. The dealer hopes that they've tied the buyer down long enough so they won't go to another dealer or another brand while the dealer waits for the car to arrive.
Were you given a VIN at any time (was it on the production sheet)?
Sometimes things just happen during production or shipping that sets everything back a month, and the dealer has no control over it. It's inexcusable not to keep you informed though.
I have 2 car seats in my second row: behind the driver and in the middle. It works great; the passenger side seat folds up so you can get to the back. No problem with room.
BTW, even though there is a LATCH connector on the back of the middle seat in the second row, DO NOT USE IT. The manual says not to; and I tried it and snapped a small piece of plastic inside my seat. In fact, because you would have to "share" the side LATCH connections from the other two seats, this would also prevent third row access.
No latch in third row either. Not that you'd want your little kid that far away from you.
In sum, I love the fact that I can get two car seats in the 2d row and still put 2 people in the third row and an additional person in the 2d row. You just have to use the seatbelt to fix the middle car seat.
well after about a week in my LR3 i finally found a comfortable seating position which has alleviated my discomfort in the low back.I think alot of the initial problem was switching from a big soft-riding aviator which had absolutely no road feel or any degree of stiffness.
The LR3 is by far the most enjoyable vehicle i've owned including the over-priced cayenne s which was the MOST uncomfortable suv imaginable.(that's what got me into the Aviator which i hated from day one)
The LR3 has them all beat, great road feel and handling, love the quirky yet subtle style ,excellent acceleration especially in sport mode. The visibility is amazing, panoramic view of the road.
Great interior, sparse, functional and in black ,very rugged (works great with black exterior). The navigation system is very user friendly. ALL TERAIN RESPONSE and air suspension set this road warrier apart from the rest of the pack. This past snowstorm was no challenge for the LR3,other drivers where giving me looks in disbelief. If anyone lives in the Boston area i would highly recommend the HANOVER dealership
; no games, great price on my trade-in and very service oriented-ask for Craig, he'll take good care of you.
1. Any feedback as to how the luggage space is on the LR3 with the 3rd row seating up? Can it fit a stroller and then some when travelling with full compliment?
2. Live in FL - anyone have any stories about how much below sticker will an LR3 SE be offered at?
Very interested in this SUV, but issue number 1 is an important factor. And naturally how negotiable are LR dealers. I always thought dealers these days are happy with 500 above invoice.

Know what you're feeling. I put a deposit down in July on a Silver HSE. Told it would be arriving in October/November. When I came in to test drive an SE, I was told that there was an "extra" Black HSE that would arrive before my pre-ordered vehicle so I switched to that one. Then was told November...Then December 4th. Then was told it was stuck at the port in England and it wouldn't arrive until January but that "they were trying to move the transport date up". At all times I have been the one to contact the dealer not the other way around. As of today, still no word. And forget about asking for a VIN number. How large is the dvd screen?
Does it obstruct rear view when driving?
Does it open via remote or does it open manually?
Does it have inputs for video games?
Thanks in advance.
The screen will obstruct the view, regardless of size, 7", 10", etc...
I am pretty sure the Land Rover specd DVD is manufactured by Rosen Entertainment.
The gaming/additional inputs are available, it will vary by model.

Please keep us posted on your decision.
It does look identical to the Rosen A9 system... and it's orderable on the Internet for $929.
Well, perhaps, though it seems to me that nothing will keep away the salt and dirt that a Canadian winter throws at it - plus the mudflaps would reduce ground clearance.
However, that DVD will have no effect on the warranty as it pertains to your wheel bearings, for instance.

will the LR3 SE eventually get this bluetooth technology....can someone explain what it entails???? will i need a new phone etc....
in meantime i'll order a hands free kit w/ speaker that plugs in from alternativewireless.com
probably sound terrible
Some of us are paying close to that now. Perhaps if you wait till summer even you'll be able to get the $1500 OI... :-)
Mine says they are still not coming through from LR
