Thanks guys. Dropped the Merc off to it's new owner last night. He was thrilled with the car!

I'm pretty set on the Elantra unless I can't get the deal I want. Color? I originally wanted Burg/Beige or White/Beige, but Hyundai's burgundy may be a little too red for me. There aren't any white/beige equipped the I want near me so who knows! I'd take black or charcoal grey too, so I guess I have plenty of options.

I'm in a little bit of a rush. Wife and I usually commute together, but Thursday we really need to drive separately. I'm hoping to work out some numbers tonight and maybe pick up Wed at lunch.

No trade, etc so it should be a quick and easy deal. Wife doesn't care what I buy as long as I stay in budget.

Yes, that is the plan. MSRP is right around 21200. The tech package has a lot of stuff for $1300. If I can't get the color/deal I want I'll just go with the "popular equipment package"

I always like to sell one before buying, but this one happened quickly!

So, I started working exclusively from home.
One of the perks at the office was free coffee. Just your typical Bunn drip coffee maker, but the water came on a direct line from the water cooler, so it was decent.

Now, I make a pot every morning. It turns out, the only time we ever buy a new coffee maker, is when my wife breaks the out-of-stock carafe on the current unit. Which happened on Sunday. (not a fancy coffee drinker, just caffeine-dependent).

    This is my new ride:

Ah, probably good that you're looking at the one without the thermal carafe; those had, at one time, a tendency to explode!

I thought it was the glass carafes that were exploding? lol
Either way, I think I'll avoid running cold water into my hot (glass) carafe.
I spent a couple of hours yesterday, checking out coffee makers.

The thermal carafe made the whole thing heavier. One of the advantageous aspects of this model is the lower weight, as we put it away when not in use. It's an 8-cup, instead of 12-cup, and we never make more than six cups, anyway. It gets great reviews.

we have a cheap coffee maker hidden someplace. Only comes out for company. Don't drink coffee in this house (me or the wife). Yucky stuff. And I WFH too.

But, we do go through a lot of my excellent home brewed iced tea! make a gallon every day or 2.

I was told to not bother replacing a glass carafe for a coffee maker as it would cost as much as a new cheap coffee maker (Mr. Coffee).

    We have one as well.

I use it to make coffee for the wife, but my daughter has made both hot and cold fancy drinks with it.

I'm not a coffee drinker, so it does nothing for me.

We have an electric kettle sitting next to the coffee maker that I use to make hot chocolate.

I am not a coffee fan, but I sure do like the smell of it. I always woke up to the smell of fresh coffee growing up, and it sticks as one of my fond childhood memories. One of my employees is a big coffee drinker, so I bought him a fancy Keurig unit last year as a thank you. The unit has turned into more of an office coffee maker than a personal one, but the added bonus for me is that I get to smell the coffee when I get to work every day. LOL

I use a cheap Mr. Coffee to make my iced tea. I don't make coffee at home but definitely drink it at work.

I'd buy a coffee air freshener if there were a decent one available.

We have the Ninja too.   It makes a great cup of coffee, and we love that you can brew a single cup or a whole pot with one machine.

A few years ago I bought myself a Breville YouBrew as a Christmas gift. It grinds the beans before the coffee gets made, and has a bunch of adjustments for grind size, coffee strength, etc. Makes fabulous coffee. I happened to be in a kitchen store last week and saw that it has been replaced by a newer model at about double the price. Won't be buying that as a replacement when this one finally packs it in.

Always go back to the drip system, and it works great camping too. The hot water goes through the Melitta into a thermos (which is kind of useless since we can finish a pot off in 15 minutes). After a pot or two, we switch to sun tea made in the frig, about a gallon a day here too @stickguy.

I was going to get Dad a Technivorm for his birthday or Christmas, then figured out he already had a really highly rated coffee maker, so not sure it would be a huge upgrade.
  • ab348ab348 Member Posts: 20,284
I like the Moccamaster (though not the Technivorm part, reminds me too much of worms) because it looks like it was designed by an engineer and not someone who was concerned about what it ended up looking like. I hear it makes excellent coffee.

I like the Looks of the JGC and have browsed them, but I just couldn't find a real compelling reason to go for it. What really sticks with me is when I stopped at a dealer to look at their used units, the first one I saw had rust bubbling up under the paint on the edge of the hood. This was a 2014 with under 30k miles, mind you. I know it is an N of 1, but I can't get it out of my head.

So we have another punch, project cheap lease is done. Count me in for a 2017 Elantra SE w/tech. Silver/grey

Sticker was 21,210. Thanks to a 3500 lease incentive, we settled on $250 down and 210 month 36/10. I got there at 6:30, walked the lot, test drove and paperwork signed out the door by 9:10. I'm picking it up to day at lunch, after they detail it and remove the pinstripe.

I don't think I left much on the table. From what I can see these numbers are pretty much the advertised deal but on a car that stickers for $1300 more. I was the only one in the dealer. Pictures later.

Congrats! Sharp looking car with a lot of features.

Quoting from the Edmunds review of the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee:

In Edmunds testing, a 4WD Overland V6 accelerated from zero to 60 mph in 9 seconds
Could you really handle being outrun by a CR-V?

In Edmunds track testing, an all-wheel-drive CR-V accelerated from zero to 60 mph in 8.8 seconds, which is a bit quicker than average.

Yes, the tech package adds a lot of nice features. My wife is beyond stunned that the Elantra has push button start and the Enclave at more than double the price doesn't.

The whole entertainment package seems to be nicely integrated. Haven't had much time to play, but so far I like the interface.

So, just to share what I've been looking at the past several days...

When the Sedona lease is up in a year, I'll still want that 3rd row for occasional use, but we won't need the full functionality of a minivan anymore. So as much as I'm enjoying the current Audi SUV, I foresee myself trading the SQ5 out for something like a Q7.

As most of you can relate, I thought I'd just start a preliminary search and see what's out there. Of course, that leads to checking out cars, test drives, crunching numbers, etc. I have my eye on a few different Q7s, but I'm trying real hard to withdraw myself mentally from the process since 1) I'm really enjoying the SQ5 and 2) it makes a lot more sense a year from now, when we actually turn in the Sedona. Plus, at that time, there will be that many more used Q7s (including the new model if I wanted to go that way), as well as XC90s and maybe even some new model CX-9s on the used market.

On the other hand, I really like this TDI:

    2014 TDI Prestige

    And this gas model:

    2014 Premium Plus 3.0T

Based on Q's feedback on the RWTIV thread, they're both overpriced, though from looking at inventory online, including Carmax, they're actually in line with asking prices. FWIW, that TDI had an MSRP of $74k!

So, help me pull back on this current initiative....or don't. :)

Ha! That little add on sticker wasn't even part of the negotiation. They went right off the MSRP on the sticker. I didn't realize it had the edge guards, otherwise I would have had them remove them along with the pin stripe!

    @breld Thanks!
The Q7 in that blue is really nice. Our Enclave is a similar color, but with a grey interior.
