fintail, I don't know, perhaps the Toyota car designers are listening to some Tragically Hip like me. Rockers out of Kingston, Ontario. I'm sitting in the Soul waiting for Mrs. iluvmysephia1 ta come out of Price Chopper, listening to some loud rock and roll. Soothes the savage Toyota Yaris iA shopper!
Just saw a local TV ad on a Boston station from Boch Toyota. The voice of Ernie Boch Jr. tells us to come on down and you can lease a new Toyota Corolla for just $49 a month! I thought Ernie had pretty much walked away from the business side as he wanted to enjoy his millions, let his hair grow and play music, but apparently not. I didn't see the fine print but I'm sure there is a lot of it.
They make many good cars, but at least in my opinion, Toyota styling is like the big three in 1958 - just a bit too much slathered on. And as stylists/designers love to copy and can be sycophants, other brands are into it too.
got a new car in the garage! A BMW X5 35. 2014 I think. Sadly, not mine. My BIL and SIL came down today to catch a flight out of Philly, so I put her car away and took them to the airport. But I can pretend for a week!
it is in the garage since that keeps it the most out of the way of the rest of the fleet. The wife can keep her car in the driveway for a week. Supposed to be nice weather, and pretty warm.
Okio Toyoda demanded it. He wanted better styling and since he's the Top Toyota Dog, they do what he says.
The Toyota Yaris iA is actually a Mazda 2 sedan with a Toyota body design plopped on it. I change my mind sometimes, and I am the one who loves cars in our family (consisting of my wife, myself, one Akita Chow and one Pomeranian dog, and two rescue kittens from the Willcox, AZ, pound).
I would really enjoy having the peppy little iA in our driveway. The gaping maw up front is essential to the whole iA look.
I've probably not been in such a good spot regarding getting a 2017 Toyota Yaris iA. My boss just signed me up for 4 hours at 1.5 time (OT) per week to work some Home Sleep Study setups. That will earn me an extra $528 a month. I already could make a payment of $300 a month on the Yaris iA, but, I will propose to the Mrs. paying an extra $200 with the regular payment every month!
Come on! For a new iA? Ya gotta give a big 'ole Fonzarelli thumbs up ta that, man.
I know this is not the rental car thread, but I rented a car for us to drive to visit our daughter at Miami to keep mileage on our other cars down, since we have several trips coming up. First car I rented, an Altima, smelled like cheap perfume, enough to make me gag. I drove it three miles and drove it right back. They gave me a '16 Corolla with 28K miles, that had a big stain on the passenger seat I commented on. They said they'd give me the rental, so I can't complain about that.
I will say this, and even my car non-committal wife said, "this car is crappy". I don't feel like I missed shopping for a Corolla instead of a Cruze, LOL.

I used to rent fairly often but haven't since my honeymoon in 2012, but I have to say with National I never had a bad rental. I wonder if it was because of the aisle where you pick what you want.

Same here... generally use National, as I get a discount. We are renting at Mesa airport next month, though.. no Emerald Aisle. Should be interesting.
I think I only once got to "pick ur own" with a rental, and this was Orlando in about 1998. Got a brand new (less than 100 miles) loaded up Plymouth cloud car. Their version of the CIrrus. Was odd to find that way. Perforated leather, all power, even had a moonroof. I actually really liked that car. Drove nice.
Other than that, I just end up with what the counter person gives me.
When I used to rent with work, out of airports, I liked National and the 'pick your own'. Been a long time though. I rented Enterprise this time as they have an office in the small city in which I live.

I never really minded those cars, I don't think they held up too well but new were decent. Was the Plymouth the "Breeze" I can't remember and too lazy to look it up
Also too busy/lazy to wash the car today so I'm waiting at the wash. In the detail bay there is a prior gen Escalade getting a detail. They are working the interior and have about 5 towels stacked on the windshield. Well it obviously has rain sense wipers and everytime a spray of water hits the windshield the towels drag across. Lol.

Good memory. The Plymouth was the Breeze. I bet @stickguy had A Stratus though, if his rental wasn't a Cirrus. The Plymouth was introducd later, was strictly bargain basement and didn't have the higher end options available that the other two did IIRC.

So I redeemed myself and washed/waxed the Elantra after the christening we attended. Man, small cars are quick and easy. It takes me longer to just wash the family truckster.
Speaking of that vehicle, I said to the wife "would you like another one just like this". Her only thing was again with the darn keyless start.... (lack of on current Enclave no matter how well equiped otherwise)
So plan D may be to see if the General is doing a fire sale on the 2017s at the end of the year and just getting another one. I told her it would have to be a stupid cheap lease but it's on the table.
Anxiously awaiting the NYC auto show as that is when Buick is unveiling the 2018.

On Friday I had the ATS at the dealer to address a recall. Because it was just a few hours work I opted for the shuttle service instead of a loaner. The shuttle was a 2016 GMC Acadia, a cousin to your Enclave. The driver and I got to talking about it. I mentioned I liked the interior in his better than the one in the new design, and he agreed. He said that he loves driving the one assigned to him and wonders if the smaller one will be big enough to handle the job. He told me that the one he is driving is for sale, has about 6000 miles on it, probably going for in the low 30s. That seems a pretty good deal.
The only real knock on the Lambda platform the Acadia/Enclave/Traverse is built on is that it is fairly hefty and not very fuel efficient. The tech is certainly behind the times too. Leaving that out they are great vehicles.
I like the 2017 Toyota Yaris iA in their Chromium color. I like how the wheels look against the paint finish. Like the Nissan Versa S sedan the car is light, around 2,400 pounds.

I would pick the iA over the Versa any day ... and twice on Sunday.
My latest plan has veered back toward something taller. Still working on the wife to trade in the RDX but she hasn't bit yet. So if I get something for me, might go with some sort of CUV or truckish thing.
Might have something to do with the horrific condition these days of so many roads around here. The bomb crater finish that is so common now just does not work with super skinny little tires. An economy car really does not need narrow 40 series tires. nor does a midsize family sedan.
Maybe I should go all the way to an F150 riding on monster mudders! Though will probably compromise with something in the middle. A compact hatch like a CX3 is probably plenty of room for me.
Hey guys. Checking in after a weekend ski vacation to Ski Butternut in the beautiful Berkshire Mountains. Located in Western, MA about a 2 hour drive from our home in Stamford, CT.
The Pilot took us, our gear, and the trip in stride. We crossed over the 89,000 mile mark to and from the ski mountain in close to 60 degree weather. There was even some mud I got to slog the pilot through on our way out of the mountain parking lot today.
There was a lot of high priced European SUV iron up there. I took a particular liking to this current body style X5. Is this a Sport Line or ///M Sport Package @roadburner

The Outback has a soft comfortable suspension with tons of suspension travel and a nice tall tire to absorb anything thrown at it. If I was driving only on cratered roads it would be a top pick.
'18 Porsche Macan Turbo, '16 Audi TTS, Wife's '19 VW Tiguan SEL 4-Motion
One month with the X1 this weekend and I have to say that it was absolutely the right move for us.
From a driving dynamics perspective it handles very very well for a crossover. It obviously doesn't hug the road or take corners like my GTI but it still handles incredibly well. The powertrain on it is also outstanding - the only way to describe it is that the car likes to go fast. I constantly find myself going 10-15 mph faster than I expect. I'm really impressed with how well the 4-cylinder turbos have come with BMW since the 2012 3 series and 2011 X3 came out.
Fuel economy has been downright impressive. We are averaging about 27 mpg in city driving, 35 highway. I attribute that to the transmission which is an excellent match for the engine. It upshifts quickly for economy but is very willing to downshift when I punch the throttle.
Fit it and finish continues to be outstanding. No rattles whatsoever. Also after a week of leaving the house, I can tell you that it has handled all of the baby gear and the car seat very well. The biggest upshot is the wide entry rear doors and the power liftgate, which makes loading and unloading a breeze.
Lastly, I have to say that I am very glad we chose a vehicle with the Premium and Technology packages. The LED headlights from the premium package and oversized Nav screen from the technology package make a huge difference in usability and drivability compared with the base headlights and the smaller "Nav for Business" screen.
Very pleased so far. Wife loves it, too.

Check out this dashcam vid of a guy autocrossing his 2016 Scion iA in Atlanta. I don't recall if he's modded his iA's engine or not, but, this guy flat out hauls. If I drove this way I'd be thinking my fingers would slip off the steering wheel!
something like this would actually work for me for a 2nd car. Small but practical, relatively cheap. Has a moonroof. Not a fan of the color combo, but conceptually, really all I need for putting around town, taking the dog to the park, grabbing stuff at the home center, stuff like that. And nice big fat sidewall tires!
No, not fast, but I'm not looking for something to take to track day or on the racetrack like highways some of you people seem to drive on!
I've never understood the way Ford did the controls in the center stack in that generation of Escape. It's like a wall of knobs. They should have put the display in the middle.
That's just how people drive in Hotlanta. Seriously, it and Miami have the fastest moving normal traffic I have seen on this continent. The typical dawdling passive-aggressive Seattlite would be eaten alive on the roads there.

@stickguy - those boxy 1st gen Escapes are decent little SUVs for sure, but at 5 years old with FWD, that seems on the pricey side (right @qbrozen)
Apparently worth more than you'd think. Average ones are $6k-$7k, with real nice ones around $8k. The are definitely more in that $6k range in the northeast, as you'd suspect.
