Back in the day they got a lot of attention. By modern standards, they are rather slow and heavy.

My brother tried looking for one a few years ago. IIRC, every one he looked at had suspension issues, and he gave up.

I followed up on the Foresters I am looking at for my wife. Both are still available. @nycarguy, are you still willing to take a look at the CT car if things move that direction?

Myself, I prefer the vehicle I found in Illinois, since it has about 15K fewer miles than the CT car (52K vs 67K). But, they're asking 18K for it, which I think is a little rich. However, if everything checks out on it and I can get within $1500 OTD on them, I think the price-per-mile equation (an extra ten cents) works in my favor.

My wife likes the CT car because it does not have the Plus package, which includes navigation and a backup cam. Honestly, though, I'm trying to keep that out of my equation because I can remove it if she really has an adverse reaction, and the presence or absence of the feature has very little impact on price. I feel like the history of the CT car (exposure to salts, etc.) is likely worse than the IL car, so that also plays a part.

We shall see. I wish I could convince her to wait another year on a replacement just to see what options are out there (both new and used) at that time, but she keeps dropping hints that she's really getting tired of my Forester. And, my generous offer to give her the Q7 is a scoffable offense. :)

Oh, you probably don't want an old SVX. Unobtanium parts, and pricey, and the car's a devil to work on. To give you an idea, the only indy Subaru specialist in Marin County won't work on them and the dealer of course would be clueless on something that old. It would be like owning a Citroen.

Can you still call yourself a specialist if you refuse to work on a Subaru SVX? Not a Subaru specialist I would think. Just a commoner.

What's the Toyota Supra and MR2 market like these days? Availability of a good unaltered model?

How much do old Dodge Viper's run?

    MR2s are still cheap.

Supra will depend on the specific trim. You want a twin-turbo model? Well, that's a WHOLE different story than a base model.

    A mid '90s Viper is under $30k.

wes, who cares if it has a navi or backup cam? usually not having is a deal breaker. If you don't want to look at them, don't. If nothing else, usually you get a bigger infotainment screen out of the deal.

I know Supras, at least those that aren't "riced out", are ascending in value if they're in decent condition. MR2s are scarce. And the only ones I've seen are in bad shape. I know, because I keep a look out for both.

Speaking of which, the last car I autox'd was a Corolla GTS. Fun cars. Great handlers. A motor that loved to be wrung out. Find one of those in decent condition and if you buy it at market value, I guarantee you'll make good money on it in 2-3 years.

Yeah, I think BaT is one of the better places to find those sporty Toyotas these days. Sometimes they bring ridiculous money but not always. There was an early MR2 there a month or two ago that I lusted after and it sold for a good but not outrageous price.

I think a mint bone stock MK IV Supra Turbo can pass 40K these days - more than original MSRP, not many cars of that era can do the same. I'd like a blue Targa MK 4, I don't care about transmission or turbo, just a cool car, one I liked back in the day.

I can't imagine XT6 was that good of a seller. Bad dealer.

15-20 years ago, the GL/Loyale cars were everywhere here, fairly uncommon now.

I remember looking at both of those cars. The XT6 was the wedge and the SVX had the little side window within a window. Dealer would not let me test drive the XT6 without a deposit first. Crossed both of my "of interest" list pretty quickly.

I had a girlfriend who had a Subaru Loyale (I think that's what it was called) wagon. Slow as a snail but she loved it. I remember it being pretty gruff, but don't remember her having any sort of issues with it. Spent many a mile taking that wagon on camping trips (given I couldn't afford a Motel 6 back then).

Ya know, instead of that Viper, you could have this for about 60% of the money.

I know on my recent 30K service of my VW Golf, the brake fluid was changed. I had always been under the impression that it should be done at the 36K mark but since I pre-paid for the 20K & 30K, was happy to have it done. So I guess it'll be fair to assume that at the 60K mark, I should have it done again. Averaging 13K/year and just at about 30K now on the odo, so about another 2.5 years it should be doing it again. If it holds up like it has so far, very good chance I'll still own it and then can let my indie shop do it, but only if their price will be lower than VW's. If the lower, will let the dealer do it and if the same, well, will think about it then.
I know one thing, think I'll be changing the synthetic closer to the 7500/8000 mark depending on what kind of oil the indie shop uses. Not sure what kind Tires Plus uses but will find out. But what's really the best brand to use for VW's? Anyone have a clue on the best brands, please let me know.
    Thanks all.

    The Sandman :)B)

(Wonder if the Audi store could do the synthetic oil change since we might do the A3's there, depending on their price. Again, that indie shop down the street only does Audi's and VW's.)

As you say, asking prices are what some use as an expression of free speech. However, I can think of many worse cars to buy and hold. There will always be demand for that one.

Drove my car (sonata) for first time yesterday. Was nice to get back in it. Drove from jersey to D.C. Good traffic for a change, and per the trip meter, got 36 mpg on the run. So probably a legit 35.

Mid size+ sedans like this should get more respect! That's close to compact mileage, with more room, comfort, and a 509+ mile range!

Have to disagree with that one. I run annual changes on my vehicles, some of which are up to (possibly exceeding) 15,000 miles per interval. UOA confirms excellent condition of oil and engine. Over-changing the oil is just a waste of time and resources.

If I counted them correctly, I changed the oil on my 2010 Forester nine times over 107,500 miles. It would have received its tenth change in July of this year (probably at about 110K). At a 3,000-mile OCI, that would be ~36 oil changes! Yikes.....

That's quite the fleet, @carnaught! The garage is beautiful, too. I like that exterior shot with all three bays open. I'm not quite up on the Lincoln model designators. Is that an MKX? Similar to the Ford Edge? I've been in an Edge before - the passenger space is pretty roomy!

Oh, wow. Pretty nice design modifications from the Escape, then. It doesn't really look "small" at all.

As far as the garage goes, just look at the flip side.... if you had more bays, you'd surely just fill them up!

I'm still looking forward to the day when I can park *anything* in my garage! I suspect having actual garage doors would help with that.... LOL

Riding in the 63 split window coupe this afternoon with my wife. I comment that the fuel gauge shows 3/4 tank. Cough, cough, sputter, dies. Thankfully my neighbor was coming that way and could bring 5 gallons of gas. Exciting day! Wife less than impressed. I fill the car up (and the neighbor's 5 gallon can) and the car now reads 1/2 tank. Interesting

I may look into one of those myself when my A4 lease is up in 4.5 months. They look small though and with a dog and 6 year old it might be tight. Probably will end up with an SUV this go round.
