Isn't that expected by now? Seriously, if you miss any time here, the first question upon returning should be "so what did breld buy?"

And to think, I started out the year thinking I'd lay low this year until the end, when the Kia lease would have been up.

Dare I say that we're good for the year?

If I didn't feel the need for a 3rd row (at least a usable one), I probably would have ended up with a CPO X5. With 2014 being the first year of the current style, it makes for a pretty good buy.

From what I understand, the current Q7 is the real winner, imitating a sports sedan feel the best out of the competitors. But they're too new right now to be in my price point. My boss was pretty set on the X5 until he drove the Q7.

So, the Durango for the win - gets no love, but I sure like it.

Oh, please. I'll go out on a limb and say that at lease half the fleet turns over before the end of the year.

Something new and shiny will come along ....

Browsed a few dealers today with the princess. Gun to head today, she would want an ILX. Though TLX is nice. Salesguy said deals were on those. Trying to clear out the 17s since 18 remodel due in soon. He said the had $6k in trunk money on them (not sure if that was just more expensive ones). Too bad I'm not shopping now! Maybe will be some left in October?

Bicycling through town, and I see a woman on a cell phone pushing one of those baby strollers shaped like a red sports car. Little kid steering it. I may sign him up as child star for my forthcoming "Young Breld" documentary on HBO.

Anyway, just as I'm passing him, the little guy gets this look of horror on his face, as his mom pushed him right into a parking lot barrier. He was steering like crazy, too, but alas, his tie rods were obviously not connected.

No serious injuries were incurred but I hope his mom doesn't drive her Ford Expedition like that.

There is $3500 lease cash on the 4-cyl and $4250 on the V6; there is $2000 bonus lease cash also available.

With deals like that available, I doubt there will be much 2017 inventory left in October.

    The downside of shopping early.

Fuel cost doesn't matter to her? My kids wanted cheap to keep back then. Of course now only 1 of them owns a car. The other two live in large cities and don't need one.

Yeah, we all get that feeling from time to time.

Doesn't help when the lead enabler lives in the same metro area. @breld and I are meeting for lunch on Friday; no test drives are scheduled.

to a degree it will. especially when we start looking closer. The ILX gets pretty good mileage though. Not like she is getting into a Q50 or a Suburban!

actually, she laid out her criteria. Needs to look nice outside, nice inside, and Go when she pushes the pedal. Also needs some sort of Navi (carplay or something like that, which the ILX has (will run google maps) is fine. I want her to have BLIS too, which she would like but probably would not be a deal breaker.

affordability will of course be on the list.

had a long discussion while out about the buy vs. lease option. Will be interesting to see how that plays out. All assuming she has a job lined up before graduation.

It's been a good fuel economy day for the Q7. After a couple of trips home and other runabout duty, I'm sitting over 30 mpg. That's certainly a nice perk, even if it is only a grand total of maybe forty miles. LOL

we actually went to look at a few CUVs (mazda CX3 and CX5). She liked the 5, but does not really need that style, and not sure she wanted something so big. The CX3 was too small and goofy. She did like the HRV (just looking at and sitting in it). Hated the Civic, but the Mazd 3 was OK. A Sonata or Mazda 6 is too big.

so right now, I think leaning toward a smaller to midsize sedan. Basically something around the size of the Jetta, but not another Jetta. But of course, that is all subject to change! Could also be getting something used as a stop gap.

a big factor will be what and where the job is, and where we are living, so how long and how bad the commute is. And if I need a car (she could always use mine for a bit if I am still based at home).

Vicarious car buying story... Executive at our company had a CPO S-class delivered from two states away today. He mentioned that the dealers in our region won't sell at a fair price. Local dealer even tried the trick of telling him they'd match the out-of-state price (by selling him a vehicle with far less equipment). Unbelievable!

Edited to add: I was able to move out most of the money I put in Chase bank to get a savings/checking promotion. Took almost all of my willpower to put it in my investment account and not pay down the low interest loan on the Murano. I'm trying to play a mental trick on myself by deliberately keeping negative equity in the Murano as long as possible because I think I'm less likely to trade it in if I know the trade in value is significantly less than the loan balance. I should have negative equity for about two more years, so check back with me to see if that works! :p

had a nice visit at the newly built Acura showroom (first time there since they built a new store up the street from the old one to get more space). Super friendly salesgame. The lady I dealt with in the past retired in December, so I will deal with him instead. Very knowledgeable, chatty, not pressure. Would love to work with him.

they also had an NSX in the showroom. Total sticker of 202K (had a full 50K in silly options like carbon fiber everything). Good luck selling that, but it was a cool looking car.

He also gave some details on what Acura does for returning leasers. 180 day pull ahead, 3 payments waived, and some other stuff. Just informational of course since I don't have a leased acura!

Have to admit, the one thing I like about the Passat is that they offer a grey interior - would look sharp with a blue or charcoal exterior color.

Not sure I could live with tan / almond on a daily basis. And, am getting a bit tired of black, after the last two cars.

I'll echo everyone else's comments, great color combo and great car. I had a 2005 Mazda6 S, manual as my first brand new car. Reliable, comfortable, fun to drive and got decent gas mileage. The only reason I got rid of it was the fact it was horrible in the snow. I would get another one (or a 3) but I've grown used to having AWD cars now for the past 6 years and am reluctant to have anything else.

I was considering the sedan when I got mine a couple years back.  For one, my wife had her GTI so I thought a sedan would offer a little diversity, but I do like the profile of their sedan.

Ultimately though, that sloped profile results in a very small opening for the trunk, so I went with the hatch.

I can go hatch or sedan. Both fine for me. I should go try that one. Or maybe not.

Got a better VW loaner today (Jetta in for service). 2016 Passat SE. With moonroof, and ZBLIS. Nice looking wheels, and full power drivers seat. Bummer though that XM is not active. Very roomy. White over beige. Like a blown up Jetta but more comfy. Definitely lighter steering.

Even has the same Hankook Kinergy GT tires my sonata came with. Def hankook. I need to double check the model.

Not that much actually. If it has the premium pack (well, that is a 2017 option, to get fancy lights and navi which this used one does) about 25.6 sticker. So if you can find one, can probably do brand new for about 23k?

I like this 2016. I liked it more in the 18k range.

That Mazda is a great bang for the buck. An acquaintance has one, and it's extremely well done. The only negaive, and I could be imagining it, is that the metal seems a bit tinny to me.

I shopped the Mazda 3 in December. There was very little discounting and the lease options were even worse. I was looking at the mid trim level 2016 (I don't like the way they changed the options for 2017). If I remember the price was around 26k and the lease payment package was the same as I got for my more expensive Volt!

Okay - Greeley may be a bit far to go look.

What?! It's only 60 miles from Denver. In California, we go further than that just for a good taco.

Sir, you are no Breld... :p

Reminds you that Denver was once a midwestern cow town.
