Gli makes sense. Was surprised to see so many SE manuals, along with a few S models.

Huh. They have a bunch of stick jettas. I like this one. Quite the good deal.

Michael, I noticed on the 1.4t engine, that it might be down 20 HP, but has the same totque rating (184) as the 1.8. With quite a bit better MPG. Would be fine for me.

No, this is not a GLI. But much cheaper to buy and feed! Plus the 225/40 tires will always make me nervous.

They also have a leftover 2016 S stick. MSRP 19.5, advertised for 14.5. Cheap commuter wheels there.

Yes, I noticed that as well, about the torque figures for the 1.4T vs. the 1.8T. I really enjoy my SE - when I get to drive it. Only at 4100 miles; as of today, I'm allowed almost 8700.

Wish VW would offer a 6-speed stick in their lower trim cars - the 5-speed seems so 80's or 90's.
When is someone going to come out with a 7-speed manual?

Before that. Wasn't the Doug Nash 4+3 essentially a 7 speed?

More like an overdrive unit operated hydraulically and electrically, bolted to the back of a standard 4-speed, and giving an overdrive gear in 2nd, 3rd and 4th......so....not really a 7 speed, more like a bastardized 6 speed combining both a manual and an automatic transmission.

Also an incredibly crappy transmission....although the front half--the 4-speed, was fine. The back unit simply couldn't take the torque under hard use. If you were a gentle Corvette driver (?) you'd be okay, maybe, sort of.

I was running errands at lunch and had an evil thought.

Would the wife even notice if I swapped out the SE for a GLI, if they were the same color?

Not that I could get away with it, financially, but still.....

Eventually. Too late at that point.

One issue I have is the wife actually doesn't care for VWs. Though she seemed OK with the Passat. At this point, she would prefer a comfy loaded sonata over a sports oriented small car. Buy hey, my car, my choice. I just don't want to be stuck taking the RDX everywhere when we are together.

Wife doesn't ride in the current Jetta, but she did appreciate the space in the Passat. R-Line? Sporty enough for me, roomy enough for her.

There have been reports that the new Jetta will be released in North America this December. Not sure if the GLI will be available at the same time as the more pedestrian trim levels.

Word has it that the 1.8T will not be available with the new Jetta, just the 1.4T (and the 2.0T for the GLI?)

That's weird. It's equipped about like a new CR-V LX, plus VW's more powerful turbocharged engine (you have to bump up to the CR-V EX to get the 1.5T and it's not as powerful as the Tiguan) plus the awkward styling of the Tiguan. The CR-V would list for $24k, so I'm thinking a "new" three year old Tiguan with no miles should list for a lot less than $22k.

Worth about $18.5k-$19k on the open market. Does come with new warranty, though, so what's that worth to someone? I could see justification for somewhere in the mid $20s, which isn't all that far off their current price.

I'm am anti-all black interiors, but, the Golf R or S4 help make black look better than it should. It is a shame automakers tend to associate "sport" with black interiors.

Audi needed a TSB performed. Gave the better half an Enterprise 2017 Accent to drive since she didn't want the suv they brought over for her...too big she said. Turns out, they went from having no openings to do the TSB till next week to getting her done by 5:30. The A3 is back at Casa Sandman all cleaned up and no more engine light on. Turns out she has a 4/45 warranty on the A3 and not the 3/36 like I do on the Golf. That was happy news to hear today though they did recommend 3 new sneakers, she had one replaced last year, but I knew she was close. She wants the same Pirelli's so I'll let my buddy at Tires Plus know so he can get them in stock and then we can get them installed around July 4th. Just in case we do go with Plan D and take the A3 to Chicago, I want the new treads on her vehicle. But have heard through the family grapevine that we might have to do Plan E which has us all flying up together!
Got the notice on the Versa that they have the parts in for the airbag recall so need to make the appointment tomorrow for the 26th. My kid starts her new job on the 30th and is taking a week off before to get things done. Her new job is social media/communications for a local law firm with multiple offices in the state of Florida. For the past almost 4 years she was social media person for the Palm Beach County Lighthouse For The Blind. Seems like this social media craze has opened up a new job description of Social Media Director at many places. Had her interview last Tuesday, they invited her back Thursday to "negotiate" her contract and hired on the spot after some give and take. She'll make a bit more, good to hear, and if all goes well, bonuses down the road with periodic increases in pay, something she lacked at her old gig. Gave them her 2 week notice last Friday and she's thrilled. Since she was a communications major in college and graduate school, the perfect job for her. Also means moving from Palm Beach County back to Broward County where we live, but she'll be south of us near my job. With her sister living/working in Miami and now this new job, we are officially staying put in Casa Sandman for who knows how long which is fine really. Just means we'll have to redo some rooms that we've put off since I was hoping to sell and move, downsize if you will. Such is life I guess!!

It's funny, 99% of us have never met and only know each other through this forum and our love of the automobile, but there's that feeling of being friends, good friends, who tell each other about our lives and the changes they involve. We're like very close strangers who get along great and share our lives with. Guess it's that "social media" thing going on but in a slightly different portal. But I know I look forward to coming in here and hearing about what everyone's doing. And obviously, a lot of others feel the same way and have been here for years also. And the one big thing we have in common is we love cars.
I know this forum especially has been a wonderful place to come and be with friends and discuss our lives. Don't think we say it enough to others but I really am so glad I found this forum and found all you folks. We're like family, but family through our computers. And that's enough for me, no place I'd rather be many many times! So thanks guys, and let's keep it going for many years to come. I know as long as I have an internet connection and a working computer, I'll be hear, rain or shine, no matter what! Because y'all do mean that much to me and for that alone, I thank you all!!!
I am, and always will be...

Now I would love that 2014 Tiguan! Just wish the mpg's didn't suck...which they do! You'd think they could at least get closer to 30 city/34 highway. If they could achieve those numbers, I'd have one now I think. I love that extra ride height, not too high but just enough for me and within the perfect size I like. They drive nicely and love the blue over beige or even the red over beige but those dismal mpg's. The major reason why I will not buy one!
Funny, someone mentioned swapping out their Jetta's and wondering if the wife would even know. My oldest didn't even realize I got my Golf for about an hour when she came in to have dinner that night. She came through our garage I recall but nothing...no reaction. Figured I'd have some fun here and asked her to get something for me from the garage. Again, she came in and said nothing. Weird I thought but...o k. Maybe 20 minutes later as we're sitting eating our dinner, she jumps up and yells, wtf! Goes out to the garage and finally noticed the new car. We both almost fell out of our chairs laughing because it took her so long to react.
But, yes, if things were different, I'd love to be driving a Tiguan as my d d!

I mowed the lawn instead this afternoon, so that took all my energy! Plus I was just there Monday, and there is no way I am ever likely to be buying one.

Nice! Those all had ESC and side airbags, so pretty close to being up to modern safety standards. I think a lot of people complained about suspension noise on that generation Sonata, though.

I wonder if suspension noise is where the term "clunker" came from. Usually sounds like clunking. The last Dodge Caravan I drove had ample front clunking at under 90,000 miles.
Well, I have heard more suspension noise that I used to on my 2012 Optima EX (58k)...but I have to admit I drive in DC frequently for computer jobs. However, I don't think the term clunker came from just minor loosening of suspension ball joints, old fashioned front shock absorber's, Even upper and lower front strut bushing either. I think clunker in those days was in MUCH worse condition than any 5 to 8 year old modern car with separate engine sub-frames, plus all the advances in suspension design. I think of an old clunker as a 1973 Ford Pinto....now add 20 years, and BINGO...You've got yourself a clunker!

back in the old days, including the early 70s, cars got older much quicker I think. Especially with the rust, but even mechanically. Though on the flip side, tended to be much simpler and repairable. I bought me 73 Duster in 79, and it was definitely a worn out old car at that point.

Oh, I forgot to mention how adding front and rear cross drilled and slotted (plus vented in the front) brake rotors with only 2 month old brake pads (the best full ceramic pads available ended up at Midas, and with the lowest price). So, after ordering the OEM top of the line (from the Genesis V8) Nakamoto rotors from a very popular online auto parts shop that had A-1 customer service. the rotors I received were impeccably machined and infused with Zinc for rust free operation. For a car guy, I almost wanted to hang them on the wall so they wouldn't get hurt!!!! However, many men in my church group used a local shop of good rapport over 20 years. I can report how fantastic it stops on a dime...and the ABS almost never comes on...when the ABS used to all the time. Lastly, the local shop charged only $215 for installation. AMAZING.
