I say here what I say in a lot of the lease threads; a good lease deal isn't that good if you don't enjoy the car you picked.

I think they are trying to overcome your poor driving dynamic impressions with a sweet financial deal.

I get the impression that there isn't a price good enough to overcome your objections with the car. Given that you can afford an Audi, I don't think price is the main factor in this deal.

@Michaell you hit the nail right on the head. I do have a budget I want to stick to and welcome as low a payment as possible but only for something I want.

If Ford put the car on a diet, installed a performance based AWD system, and adds a better transmission and then they would have my attention. Of course that would probably come with a price increase but then the paper comparisons between the Fusion and A4/S4 might carry some merit.
And the things you want changed are things the dealer has no control over.

The dealer needs to understand that.
Well, the dealer could attempt to tune it more aggressively and put 2 bigger turbos on it with an aftermarket exhaust and coil-overs.

@Michaell - I think I finally got through to the Ford dealer after stopping in last night to talk in person. The salesman understood where I was coming from, it was the sales manager that really wanted to make the deal. I kept the conversation simple and made clear the price or payment were of no concern, I just wasn't as enthralled with the car as I thought I would be. He seemed to understand, or at least he came across that way.

@nyccarguy - I think the Grand Cherokees overall, inside and out, but especially inside are handsome. I'll definitely post a review once I drive one.

I Have had to be blunt at times, and flat out say (in nicer terms usually) "your car sucks and I don't want it". They usually leave alone after that.

I hate those contacts. Mostly because I they never offer enough money!

Tempted to say "probably", then when (if?) buyer shows up, demand asking price or walk.

That is just a normal CL thing.  Last three things I posted for sale I got at least 5 or 6 of those responses.

Like my MGM.  Listed at $3500.   Got an email. "$1000 cash today."  I literally responded with a simple "No"

I had a lot of that with the 2010 Forester this spring. I would just tell anyone who offered less (sight unseen) that they needed to come look at the car: It was worth the asking price. In the end, the guy who bought it never even brought up the price. He just came, scheduled a time to haul it away, and put $2K cash in my hand as I handed him the title and keys....

Speaking of having a great weekend.... This is my annual automotive maintenance weekend, and I have a full agenda this year:

    1. 2013 Forester. Full complement of fluid changes for winterization, along with installing the King springs, class III trailer hitch, and a bunch of protective manufacturer accessories to "trick" it out like our 2010 Forester.

    2. Q7. Full winterization process including a circulating block heater (the 3L TDI won't take a "freeze plug" like most engines), plus new brake pads on all four corners. I haven't fully decided on the brake fluid yet.

    3. 2010 Forester. Should be pretty easy - just the standard maintenance items, plus I don't need to replace any of the periodic fluids this year such as differentials, transmission, brake, etc.

    4. 1969 C20 - Simple oil change.

    5. 1969 E100 - Oil, coolant, differential, and (possibly) transmission replacement.

    6. 1976 F250 - Oil, possibly reseat the intake manifold, and replace the transfer case.

Unfortunately, I know I won't be able to get some things, like the T-case, done this weekend, but most of this stuff should be out of the way by Tuesday evening (I have a four-day weekend!).

xwesx, sounds like a busy weekend.

The Tahoe won't pass inspection due to the tint on the front windows so I'm at the tint shop having it removed and will probably put it back once I get the truck inspected and registered.

I was late late getting here because I had a 2:15 appointment at Discount Tire to balance and rotate the tires. It was after 3:00 before they pulled my truck in the bay!

Well, at least the tint guys are flexible on your timing. If Discount does appointments, I'm surprised that they were so far behind by 2pm to make you wait so much longer! Sounds like a doctor's office.

4th of July sale. I would have waited a couple weeks if I had known. I called the tint shop when I knew I was going to be late, and they said be there no later than 3:45. When they hadn't pulled my truck in the bay by 3, I had a small meltdown and told them I'd have to leave because I was going to miss another appointment, then they said I was next and they'd have me done by 3:30. :@ The Tahoe actually tolerates aggressive driving pretty well, but there's a lot of squat and dive if you accelerate or brake hard.

It will only be $80 to retint the front windows after I have the truck inspected.

    Bleh; that's annoying!

I had to spend another $100 to have the back window on my Forester re-tinted after my little mishap last year when I broke it with an ill-fitting tool chest in the cargo area. :'(

But, at least it was my own stupidity that caused that expense, and not someone else's.

Well, since I will need to be working outside for most of the weekend, and it is a holiday on Tuesday, I suspect that summer will start on 7/5 this year.... ;)

To be fair, though, we had some really nice weather for June. Plenty of sun, but not so much that everything is on fire!

I had a circulating block heater on my '71 MGB when I dealt with my first serious winter in Edmonton ('71-'72), and it worked really well. For the 240Z I had the freeze plug heater, and it worked okay, but it took longer to get the heater putting out warm air.

I remember reading something from a guy who ran an air-cooled VW in Alaska who used a Coleman stove in the driveway under the engine as a block heater. :)

    Marco:

I change oil on the old rigs every other year. I used to do those annually, too, but did a test on my C20 one year and found that the total base number on it was still very solid, so annual changes were a waste of resources. My C20 might see 1,000 miles in a heavy year, and my Econoline sees far less than that. My plow truck would warrant more frequent changes were it not for the fact that it leaks a lot of oil. I do a complete oil change on it every winter just by dumping more oil in it every month or so! The only reason I do an actual change at all is to clear the lower pan debris and put a new filter on it.

I try to consolidate all of my maintenance items into this holiday weekend. It makes it easier to remember as well as more efficient by "getting into the zone." I change oil on my daily drivers annually, so this a great way to ensure it happens on a regular basis.

I'm not a big fan of doing maintenance work on the winter's ice pack, though somehow I manage to do some of that every winter (well, repairs anyway).

told my daughter today we need to get out for some more test drives this summer, before she goes back to school. But might be hard. She is working at an internship in Delaware, and does not get home until 7. A bunch of weekends are already spoken for. So not many opportunities left.

Doesn't matter that much though. Our plan of me buying something that she will take over next summer has probably died on the vine. She is more a smokescreen now, and companion since more fun with company!

same here. between vacation, the kid being home, a couple of side trips, taking kid back to school in NC, and an unexpected foster dog the last few weeks, car looking has not been in the cards.

for us, after labor day, will be back to just the me and the wife (unless a replacement foster dog shows up), with no trips scheduled, so I will ramp up the looking since at that point, will only have 2 months left, and be truly on the clock (well, not really, since if I need a car when November rolls around and I don't know what I want, I can just keep the Sonata for the low low price of $10/day!)

Before and after on polishing the headlights on the Tahoe. Also installed Silverstar bulbs for both low and high beams. I removed the lights before polishing them to avoid damaging the paint, so it took all afternoon, but I'm pleased with the results!
