Wow, I am surprised they have a mode that raises the idle. Most modern cars idle as low as possible because of emissions.

Well, I don't see this the same as "cheating." Simply keep it in "comfort" mode for emissions testing.

Here is a good deal if you happen to want one of these. Cheap for years and miles. Great car IMO for a teenager HS/take to college car.

Prior C and 3er could both be found made in South Africa, I don't think we receive any current C-class from there now that they are mostly built in Alabama, not sure about 3er.

Why does that seller hide the VIN?
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,347
I have no idea why they do that Fin. I never cared enough to click on it, but they do have a picture of the data plate included, which shows the Vin.

maybe I should get the wife back out to take a drive in the Si after all. She did not like the seats in a showroom sit, but we did not take out on the road. If she had liked it, I might be negotiating on one now.

The single greatest aspect of these boards is the people. No matter what, we all share a common love for the automobile. After being an edmunds poster since the late 1990s, I had the pleasure of meeting my 1st edmunds poster in person. I had the pleasure of having dinner with @corvette this evening in Times Square. We ate some delicious pizza and chewed the fat about cars & life! Enjoy the remainder of your trip

Very nice! I've met quite a few members, past and present, over the years. The friendship I've made with @breld and @jpp5862 has transcended cars and now includes house shopping, sports, and other areas of life.

I still believe we need to organize some sort of meetup someday...

Having not driven a MS3, it does seem to me the Type R is a worthy successor to that car, particularly since Mazda refuses to build one.

Getting in on Labor Day, and only staying until Thursday morning. Plus, being downtown with no vehicle. It was more not wanting to put anyone else out, than not wanting to meet up. Traffic sucks getting downtown, just like any other big city. Plus, I had a wife with me (mine, actually).

I did take in a Mariners game, took the ferry to Bainbridge (zzzz), Chihuly Gardens, Red Hook BrewLab (brand new!), plus the Market, etc.. A lot of craft beer and good food. (Molly Moon ice cream!) Rented a car the last morning, hit the LeMay museum out by the Tacoma Dome (underwhelming), then on to Portland!

I know some here don't care where their car is assembled, but I do.

As such, does anyone besides @breld know where the Civic R hails from? What about the Si, all from US, or are some Japanese models in the mix?

There are some rumors on the net that Honda's painted in Japan fare better. For me it's not about the paint, but my own personal record keeping of problems per vehicle per mile being much better with those that have a VIN starting with a J or W instead of a 1 or 3, or 4. Juries still out on a VIN starting with TR (Hungary).

However, I have my doubts about those Hungarians. The other day my TTS exhibited a glitch. It started chiming loudly at me for no reason near the end of my trip. Same chime and light on the dash as if my seat belt wasn't buckled, but it was buckled, and unbuckling and re-buckling didn't fix it. Re-booting/restarting the car solved the problem, but for how long? Has only happened once, but what the hell?

I wonder if the computer would store the error code, because otherwise it would be useless to report it to the dealer.

Am I being too picky? Maybe I was spoiled by the pretty much almost flawless S4 experience. Perhaps it is just the quirks, character, and charm of owning a rare sports car.

Is that where they used to make the Mini?

Return of the Honda Mini! Or a Honda Jaguar. Seems like an odd choice for Honda, but I suppose if Ohio can do it, anyone can

I would assume that the $30K discount applies to whatever high priced F Type R they have meandering around the lot.  I'm sure they don't have the $30K off of the base 6cyl 6SPD car.

My wife's last payment on her 2013 Accord EXL Navi is in about 6 months. A few times she's mentioned that she really likes the AndroidAuto in my 2016 Accord EX—although we both agree that her leather seats are better contoured than my cloth seats. When we got her car new, we got the extended HondaCare bumper-to-bumper warranty, which lasts until early 2021, and so it probably makes sense to keep the car until then.

But, with the all-new 2018 Accord looking good, I wonder if a case can be made for trading in her car for the new model. Negatives for us on the new model include the elimination of the LaneWatch camera, as well as the reduced rear visibility behind the driver. But, since blind spot monitoring is likely to be included with most models of the 2018 Accord, perhaps those things aren't such a big deal. If we traded in her 2013 Accord for a 2018 Hybrid Accord, which will get about double the mpg, we'd save about $500 a year on gas. Plus she'd get even more power than she's currently got, more room, more trunk space, and greater safety with the next-generation ACE structure. Hmmm. Perhaps a case can be made.

The big negative, of course, is that we were going to be free of our $290 a month car payment for her car, which we could then contribute to our daughter's college fund.

But on the other hand, my wife's 2013 Accord has almost 50k miles at this point, and although the good original tires still look good at this point, probably they'll need to be replaced in the next year or so, which will likely cost about $1000.

The trade-in value of her car is probably about 11k, but I'm not sure about that, since she has a few nicks and scratches on the car.

Probably we should keep the car until 2021, when the extended warranty expires, but I'm tempted by the tech, features, and mpg of the upcoming Accord hybrid. Maybe around a year from now, in the summer of 2018, I should think about at least having her take a test drive in a 2018 Accord?

Funny about Jags. My son texted today that he was getting emails from the Jag dealer down here (from when he shopped them last year) touting big discounts and aggressive lease deals. So will take a swing by one evening, just to take a look!

I met quite a few people from another message board I have posted at since the early 2000's at the Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit. All great people and I still keep in touch with them to this day even though I haven't made it back to that cruise since 2009. One of those people and myself ended up in the same career field and catch up at conferences we both attend. We're both planning to meet for dinner next week in Las Vegas when we'll both be in attendance.

Mini Coopers are assembled at BMW's Plant Oxford in Cowley, England, but the Countryman and Paceman were initially assembled by Magna Steyr in Austria, but not sure if that's still true.

The best reason to replace a car is generally just that one wants a new car! However, if she is generally satisfied with it, then, yes, it makes all the sense in the world to keep it. If she is really into the Android Auto feature, you can get those on many aftermarket head units now, and the price is a pittance compared to a new car. :)

Funny story - I'll try to make it quick.

Some of you may remember I took my son to the Super Bowl in NY back in 2014. So, my son was a mere 10 years old at the time.

The day before the game, we flew into Philly, then drove up to our hotel in Jersey. Once we got checked in it was probably around 8:00 pm or so. We catch a bus into Times Square so we can take in the festivities - obviously lots going on, but a few things were shutting down for the night. We get to a big blow-up slide in Times Square - just closed down as we got into line. Then we walked around the Toys 'r Us (which I think has closed down now, right?) which was fun. Got in line for their ferris wheel, but that was closing down too. As we're walking out of the store, I turn around and my son has tears in his eyes.

I'm guessing I'm not the only parent who has forgotten on occasion that we, as adults, can often just run and run on mostly adrenaline. Well, we hadn't had anything to eat for awhile, so what my son didn't realize was that he was having more of a food emergency than experiencing actual disappointment over the ferris wheel in Toys 'r Us.

So, we found the nearest pizza joint in Times Square (not hard to do), and promptly got a couple slices to eat out on the street. To my son, that was magical pizza - all of a sudden he was fine; no more tears. Still a strong memory for him to this day.
